Very disappointed. Technician left clamps inside our furnace so the heat wouldnt turn off. The gas furnace kept running and running and running even when the thermostat was turned off. Didn't matter that the temp was set to 72, the furnace kept running into the mid 80s. I tried adjusting the temperature and when that didnt work I turned the thermostat off. When that didnt work and my screaming hot baby needed put back into bed I had my husband go and check the issue himself. Mertz sent a technician that failed to ensure he took all his equipment with him and left us in a dangerous situation with a nonstop running gas furnace. read more

Just recently purchased a house that had a 13k boiler installed back in Dec 2022. I was informed that warranty was not transferable to new owners (wtf). Why does it matter who has the home now, you should stand behind your product. Paid for them to come clean and check the boiler, it wasn't cleaned. Merts was recommended to me by my father in law when our heater and fan was busted. It was a hot summer in 2020 when we called them to take a look at it. The guy let us know that the fan was broken and was able to push the cold air through our condo. Plus the fan was in the heating unit which was so old. He gave me an estimate which and gave me some time to review it. We decided to have them install a new model. They were able to schedule us in quickly early in the morning. The only reason why I didn't give them a 5 star was because it took at about 4 hours. I personally don't know how long it takes to replace a heating unit, but I felt that was kind of long. Again, I've never had this work done so maybe 4 hours may be fast to the average heater replacement work. They were nice and respectful of our home while they worked. Bless them for working in the heat. Regardless they got it in there fine and stayed to make sure it was working and that it cooled our condo. They even explained to me how to replace filters. I paid them in full for their work, I got all the paperwork and they were on their way. If I have any other issues, I would definitely call them up again. read more

I used to love this company, had even talked to them about doing the systems at my Job!!! Well, that's over! On July 5 during a storm, my central air unit went out! I am licensed to work on HVAC but don't! Long story short both capacitors (one for air mover and one for compressor were blown and the compressor shorted! I filed a claim with my insurance to get it replaced! Merts sent a tech to look at it and give a quote to replace. When the tech showed up he said this common in your area we have done a lot of these from storms! But he failed to transfer that this happened due to storm on the quote so insurance backed out! The quote from them was $8500.00!!! But get this another company shows up and replaces the whole thing for $6500.00 less! These are not good people! read more

Probably one of the worst companies I've ever dealt with! If you are looking for customer service and professionalism move on. Company sold products that were not necessary to solve a simple issue and then would not even come back out when that solution failed. The do not stand behind their work and are only interested in money. They would not come back out to solve the problem they were hired to do, but did offer to come back out and sell me a new unit. LAUGHABLE! Complete incompetence and no respect for you, your home or your money! Do not deal with this company. In response to company reply; It's amazing that you determined a leak without any testing. Also, crazy that it only leaked enough for you to sell me 1lb of freon. I understand it's a whole 12 yrs old but the solution your tech/company provided (adding freon) did not solve the problem for even 1 day. Perhaps misdiagnosed or just a scam??? When I called to explain this you told me you would not waste your time on an old unit but would come sell me a new one. Make whatever excuse helps you get through the day but the fact remains that your service did not fix the problem, your customer service is horrendous and the fact that you defend those actions just proves my point! read more

I purchased a high efficiency carrier air cond and furnace 18 months ago. The install was frustrating because the new A/C was very loud. Mertz came out 3 times and I had to get threatening before they insulated and adjusted the pipes along my basement ceiling. It's still a little louder than my old one. I'm now locked into twice a year "maintenance" visits to maintain my warranty. I'm given a 4 hour window in which they might come. It's as bad as the cable co. When they did the "maintenance " check on my 18 month old furnace a few weeks ago they did not re-attach the water hose inside my furnace. I noticed water leaking a week later and had to be available for the 4 hour window again for them to come out and get "find the problem" and re-attach the hose. They did not charge me for their error at least. read more

I called and had an estimate, the worker was rude didnt give a true estimate and seemed as if he wasnt interested in even dealing with me. Therefore i called the office for another estimate and the manager never called back They relayed a message to the finance company and said they didnt want to move forward with me. I was in the market for a furnace and I interviewed a lot of different contractors. Mert's didn't have the best price but gave me the most confidence in their product and workmanship for a fair price. After all the research on the internet I concluded that it is just important the brand as much as the installation and maintenance. They had an extended (parts and service) warranty and have been in business for 50 years (with no apparent bad reviews) to back it up. They came out with two installers. Between them they had 34 years of experience. They were clean and courteous. Very professional and answered all my questions. I am looking forward to years of continuous and uninterrupted heat. If anything should change with my views and attitude I will update this as appropriate. read more

Had a problem with my ac unit and I called there guys. Thay came out pretty quick and the technician was very professional and polite. He fix the problem by vacuuming few bugs out of one the panels. Iam happy with the service but I feel like I got over charged just a bit. It was $338. read more

Adam from Merts serviced my furnace in the last week. He explained the cause of the problem and how to resolve it in the future. He also brought another potential problem to my attention. After his common-sense explanation, I realized that what he had found was the cause of another issue in our home. His recommended solution, again, was very rational and he was able to offer personal experience with the product he was recommending. Although the solution was costly, we opted to go along with the suggestion. It's only been 48 hours since the new install, but already the atmosphere in our home has improved dramatically! Merts gave us a 10 year warranty on a brand new furnace installed in December 2013. Recently the furnace broke, so they sent a service guy who replaced the gas valve....a simple part to replace. The service guy (Frank) said he had to charge me $675.00, but he'd let the office know it was a warranty repair and I should get reimbursed partially for the repair. I waited a few weeks and didn't get a call, so I called and talked to Samantha. She said she'd see what she could do. She called me a few weeks later to tell me she was able cover the gas valve part which was $150.00.....but they wouldn't refund any of the $525.00 in labor. We had to replace 2 furnaces and an air conditioner which was a large and unexpected expense. Bob Krause from Merts, was one of the many people who came to our home to provide a quote. He was very friendly and also extremely professional and knowledgeable. He walked us though the entire home pointing out things we would not have otherwise even considered. Bob was not pushy at all, but extremely informative. We did a lot of research before deciding who to use to install our furnaces and air conditioner. Merts had the right price and made us feel comfortable in this large investment. On installation day, Frank, Corey and a Anthony were also professional and worked very hard all day and night! It was a big job and they stayed positive and courteous though the final hour! I will recommend Merts to anyone in the market. I tried for 2 weeks to get an appointment for 4pm for maintenance (prepaid) but was told that would be impossible because the rep could finish at 1pm and would have nothing else to do until 4pm. I was asked to have someone available if I could not take off work and I could not- new job. I finally was able to someone to agree...well guess what they waited until 4pm still no tech. Needless to say I am furious because not only did this person wait for 4 hours and no one showed but the tech did not come until after 5 pm. I had to leave work urgently because the person waiting had to leave. Apparently everyone who is calling is not satisfied, everyone is having heating and air issues. I am not, I just want to make sure there are not any issues and that my warranty stay in tact according the terms of the purchase agreement. Do not call the office because all you will get is a BS answer and basically get told your time is not as valuable as the tech even though you purchased the maintenance package and all could have been solved if they just agreed to have someone service you at 4pm or later- which is what they did. Being a member of the Club entitles you to a 10%discount, no overtime for weekends or holidays and the most reliable nd dependable service. Wow! what can I say. I very rarely write reviews, but I really thought that people should know about this. I am the owner of an industrial FDA food warehouse. We had Merts out to give an estimate for some HVAC work on our building. I met the owner of Merts only for a moment to shake his hand and say hello. That was literally the only thing that I said to him. As I reached past him to lock the shipping office door for lunch, he grabbed the door, stood in front of me and began to insult me about being a woman in business. I was shocked to say the least as I had no other contact or conversation with him other than the one word "hello". He came across as being incredibly unstable. I'm not sure if the fact that I was a woman who owned a large industrial business is what had upset him so much or if there was something else about me that upset him. Gladly I will never know as I had him removed from the building. Business owners beware of discrimination lawsuits if you end up hiring this company. read more

I have been a loyal customer of Mertz for many years. They are very expensive compared to other companies, but they usually come the same day. I have 3 rooftop heating/air conditioners, a boiler, and just had them put a new furnace and air conditioner in my home. So to say that I have spent a lot of money with this company is an under-statement. But I will not use them again nor recommend them. I called them because a pipe burst in my business in below zero weather. I had already shut down my boiler, and cleaned up the water on the floor. The technician arrived and I showed him where the leak was coming from. He had me turn the boiler back on, and confirmed what I already knew, however the pipe was encased in a corner, with wood and drywall around it. He said he could not fix it until I removed the wall. OK. But he wanted $166 upfront, before fixing anything, but said it would go towards fixing it once I got the wall down. Paid someone to take the wall down and called them back around 4. I was told they couldn't fix it until the following day. (I explained there were 4 small children that lived upstairs, and it is below zero, and they have no heat.) But they couldn't come back until the next day anyway. OK. I understand. But I was concerned about the renters, and found someone else that could come right away. It was done by 6pm, and I called to let them know that I did not need them to come back, but I would expect at least a partial refund, as they only drove about a mile to get here, and did not repair anything. Their bill says $60 trip charge, and $106 for an hour. He was only here for long enough to tell me "You are right, a pipe burst behind your wall, and I cannot get to it until you take the wall down". I was willing to pay the trip charge of $60, even though it was only approximately 1 mile from here, and that doesn't cost $60. But that is reasonable. They came. But it is also reasonable to refund the rest because he could not fix it with the wall in front of it, nor could they come back the same day. I paid to remove the wall, and it is reasonable that due to the weather conditions, if I could find someone that could fix it same day, to receive a refund of any service charge, since they could not do it that day. My new guy only charged $100, with no trip charge. I am in the service business, and have given Mertz ALL of my commercial and residential business, and do not understand how they would risk future business, over $166. read more

So I have just created a yelp account to leave a review for Merts as this is the only place I seen reviews for them besides their website. I am very upset with Merts aheating and cooling because they overcharges me for my new air conditioning system by about $1, 000!! My air conditioner went out on a very warm day, called for service and the repair man told me that it needed to be replaced. So I agreed to have them install a new ac unit and while waiting for them to come and install the new ac I had spoken with my cousin who had told me that he would like the old air conditiiner if possible. When they finally arrived to install the new ac (3 hours later than stated) I asked them if I could keep the old ac, which they said was not a problem. In the end my cousin had his friend fix my old air conditioner that merts said was broken and needed to be replaced and it only cost him under a hundred dollars for the part that was needed. After talking to several people, I have discovered that not only was I coaxed into buying a new unit but I was grossly overcharged for the ac system they installed. Owner refuses to reimburse or do anything to compensate me. STAY AWAY! read more

Tried turning on the heat for the first time yesterday and it was only blowing cold air. Found Merts advertisment in the paper, called and they said they could have someoneout that afternoon. They aarrived 2 hours after the scheduled time they had given me. Technician came to the door, looked like a hot mess and wreaked like cigarette smoke. He calls me to the furnace room only about 5 minutes after he had been in there, to tell me that I need a new furnace because my heat exchanger was cracked and leaking carbon monoxide! I told him I have sevwral carbon monoxide detecters and never once had they gone off. He was rather pushy, stating he could get a new furnace installed for me right away. I called my husband and he told me to get assecond opinion as our furnace was only 13 years old. The second company I called came our the following morning...on time...the technician was very clean and respectful. I'd say no more than 10 minutes later I feel heat coming out of the vent, followed by him coming out with the bill for only a $79 clean and check. He said it wasa dirty pilot assembly and the heat exchanger was not cracked or even close to being cracked. Please dont trust what Merts tells you, I could have been out of $2, 600the price they wanted for new furnace!!! read more

I will start by saying, if you have an emergency, (ex. furnace stops working when it's -15 degrees outside) Mert's does a nice job getting to you in a timely fashion. The technicians are always polite. With that said, I would not recommend purchasing a furnace from them. Our furnace was purchased and installed by Mert's less than five years ago. The parts were given a 10 year warranty, with a 1 year warranty on labor. Our furnace has been overheating and when this happens it blows out cold air. To fix this problem we turn the furnace off and reset it. Our technician came out and informed us that our furnace would need several new parts. He ordered the parts and we were called when they came in. My husband scheduled an appointment for two days later and proceeded to take half of his day off work to accommodate the 12-4 window. He had not heard anything by 2:30 and decided to call Mert's to verify the appointment. They did not have the appointment on the books and informed him that it would need to be rescheduled. (This is because they refused to pay their technicians overtime unless it is an emergency...CUSTOMER SATISFACTION DOES NOT MATTER.) Though upset, we did reschedule the appointment and I took the day off work on Monday to accommodate their 8-12 window. The technician arrived at 8:00 and was very knowledgeable. It took 2 hours ($300 dollars labor) to install all the parts and to figure out that the new motor would need to go back due to a crack. I understand the cracked motor is not their fault. I scheduled a new appointment for Wednesday to have the part installed. I rushed home from work Wednesday to meet with the technician. The technician did not show. I called Mert's after about 30 minutes. I found out at this time that the appointment was not scheduled (mind you the appointment was written on the $300 receipt I had from Monday). I informed them that the earliest time I could be home Thursday or Friday was 5:00 and that I was also available Saturday morning. ( I gave them plenty of time slots to accommodate their schedule.) The office manager informed me that the window was 12-4 and the latest they could schedule my appointment would be the last call of the day or around 4:00, because, in her words "We only pay our technicians for overtime in the event of an EMERGENCY!" I would say this classifies as an emergency! My husband and I have been more than patient with them. We were loyal customers and had our furnace serviced yearly by Mert's, however we will no longer have them complete routine maintenance. We will go to someone else. Unfortunately, we will have to deal with them if we need any parts replaced. I would NOT recommend Mert's. read more
