I was pleasantly surprised with my visit to Merle's. I ordered the Reuben and the sweet potato fries and both were really good! The waitress was attentive and had our food out fast. There were quite a few people in at lunch time, more than I thought! Their specials look fantastic and I heard people raving about their Chicken Fried Chicken. If I am back in the area, I would definitely eat here again! read more

I have nothing positive to say about my experience at Merle's, so I write this as a warning to passer-byers who may think this is a good idea for a quick meal. Don't. Spare yourself and just don't. Our experience was horrid. Walked in, totally ignored. Waitress finally acknowledged us by pointing to an empty table. 20 minutes later we got water splashed on us as she slammed down the glasses with menus...and then proceeded to immediately ask us what we wanted to order. Ummm.... we just got menus. I asked for two minutes, mistake. Took another 10 to get her back. When she returned, exasperated by us, she just took out her pad and stared at us. Not a word. Our cold, stale, dry, awful, from a frozen bag food was later delivered by another staff member who left us with no condiments, no silverware, no water refill (never got that tea I ordered and had to pay for), and just sitting. After another 5 minutes, I helped myself to the condiments, silverware, napkins, etc., that I had spotted and had to walk our glasses to the bar for water refills. The bartender was highly annoyed that we weren't ordering drinks (it's lunch, we're traveling, sorry bud...) My reminder note for this review was: "Worst restaurant experience of my life.". It is for sure in the top 5 worst eating experiences I have ever had. Happily will never return to give it a second chance. read more

My burger was precooked and not that great I took a few bites and ehhhh I was done Server looked at my plate and asked if everything was ok and I told her it was terrible.... She asked if she could replace it or get me anything else (I asked for an order of tots) Brought me an order of tots and took the burger of NOTE: customers should never have to ask for a refund and I never do, I simply won't come back She states that she took it Got my $6 bill for tots and gave her & $30 I'll give this place another try (because of simple basics of taking it off my ticket) another time I'll change my rating, when I try the food again Great looking place read more

Stopped in on the way to Lee Summit. Super neat little sports bar with a great menu and the food that was coming out looked great. Much better than your typical sports bar food. Bartender was nice and very efficient. It has some really neat sports/hanging metal American flag. Very neat place. Only knock is the female employee that was working but took time to come around to customer side of bar to eat which is cool but she kept burping and acting like it was funny. Little self-pride at your place of employment. read more

First thing when we got out of our car the manager Robert met us at the door with a friendly smile and greeting! Was exited to have this bar and grill on my travels. Sat at the end of the bar looking at the kitchen. Food was good but the bartender had a personality like at rock no matter how much I tried to make small talk. All well until I saw her and another waitress using orders as snack plates, taking what looked like tots and an appetizer to snack on then serving the customers what they paid for after they had their hands in the dish. This after she told me she was a manager. Very unprofessional. read more

Merle's is shining bright among so many dim bulbs in the Cass County restaurant world. While fast food and chain restaurants abound, we have very few quality, locally owned restaurants. Merle's is the exception to the rule. If you can't find anything you like on Merle's menu, then you can't read, 'cause there's something there for every taste. Our business group of seven ol' men - well a couple were in their 30s or 40s - ordered up hearty meals of bacon cheeseburgers, pork tenderloin sliders, a "normal" pork-T, fish & chips and fish tacos. Once the food arrived, the talking pretty much stopped. Good stuff! The food is homemade, the service is fabulous and the prices are just right. Throughly disappointed. I ordered a Philly steak sandwich with mayo on the side. Order a sandwich to go, got my food home and found out this was just a hamburger patty they chopped up. It didn't fill half the bun. They forgot the mayo also. This was not the same Philly I had six months ago that was heaping with steak meat. read more

This place is nasty! Manager was not around to tell about my visit or the way the employee was acting like she was prostituting the men in the bar rather than waiting tables. I heard comments from the heavy set asian looking waitress that said plenty about her character so did my children. She should be fired for using her job as a place to recruit men for sex and money. She also commented on doing a "line" in the restroom. What type of business are you really running in this small town with employees like this? read more

Friendly waitress took my order of blackened shrimp, hush puppies and a side of chips. All were excellent except for the small cup of coleslaw, which was flavorless, with no detectable sauce. Our last time there we had a wonderful server named Harlie. She was filled with positive energy. I think it was the second time she served my table, but I have noticed all of the servers being quite good. I would recommend this place for a simple, good time out with friends.

It's too nice to be considered a dive bar but the ambiance and service give it that welcome dive bar feeling. The bartender Red was on top of it pouring drinks and offering real suggestions for food and drinks. My BF is super picky with beers and since we're in a new area they don't have the local beers he usually likes. She suggested the Kansas City Boulevard. It was a win. We ordered a Main Street burger and 8 medium wings. I was able to pick the burger temp and actually get it the way I ordered it (med rare) it was juicy and had a great flavor.
