By far my favorite food truck, this gem serves up authentic Mexican food (and a little…read moreAmerican-style for the gringos). They can usually be found somewhere on University Ave in St. Paul during the work week, though the location has varied lately. Last week I saw them by Bally's at University and Dunlap, in front of Sun Foods on University just east of Dale, and on University between Victoria and Lexington. The lady who owns the truck told me that they are planning on moving west of 280 in the near future, but they encourage calling ahead to find out where they are and to place an order for pickup. Now, for the best part - the food. The delicious, amazing food. Three styles of tacos (soft shell, Deep-fried American-style, and Border/Mexican style), burritos, tamales, quesadillas, three meats - choose from ground beef, chicken, or pork - and all available with rice and/or beans. The Border tacos are my absolute favorite. Two corn tortillas with meat, onion, and cilantro, and a lime to squeeze over the top. There is hot (red) sauce, or mild (green) sauce and, although I prefer the spicer hot sauce, the verde sauce goes really well with these tacos. I have recently started ordering the carnitas (pork), and it is outstanding - roasted, shredded, and perfectly seasoned. The food is a little more expensive than Taco Bell or Taco John's, but there is absolutely no comparison - this is real, authentic, homemade Mexican food, with real meat and fresh toppings, all made to order. I think I could eat these tacos everyday and never look at another fast-food taco again.

I've tried several items and have not been disappointed. Not to mention, the service was awesome and the staff was very courteous. Eli's Donut Burgers: It's worth it. Promise.

Will this perfect and gluttonous combo create a lightning storm at first bite? Will I ever be the same again? Why haven't I heard of Eli and his genius truck before? Will this get me pregnant? We swiftly ordered a donut bacon cheeseburger with the works. It was almost immediately ready (not really a good thing...) and I was able to snap a pic before we snapped our jaws. So... eh. The answers to the questions above turned out to be: No. Yes. Because it was disappointing. And a very firm No. So the donut itself was the very best part - the inside was soft and the outside was grilled on the flat-top, and then it was finished with a delicious warm glaze. But the donut burger did not yield a good burger. It was a thick overcooked and under-seasoned patty. Pickles came with it, and though I love me some dills, I hated the way it paired with the donut. I would omit them completely, which is a big sacrifice coming from me. Also, my boyfriend asked me to put ketchup on it, but I purposefully "forgot", because that sounds terrible to me too. I think if they offered something else like... a tomato jam, cherry chutney, or even BBQ sauce, it would make a would of a difference. Oh, and a tolerable burger too. I guess this was one of those "great concept; poorly executed" deals, but in a way me and my waistline are relieved.

The crepes were perfect and delicious. They have a variety of options from sweet to savory [I tend to like savory more]. The staff were really friendly and accomodating to our diet restraints. I love the ambiance of the cafe; as someone who has been to Paris it gave the appeal that I was there again. The prices are pretty fair especially compared to some other creperie options in town. Parking however can be a challenge; that part of Selby ave is limited for parking due to so much in that area. It would however be a perfect idea to either walk, bike or even catch uber/lyft and venture to some the neat shops in the area.

The savory crepes are light but filling with some traditional offerings and some less, like L'Italien (pizza crépe). The sweets choices are varied and scrumptious. And one of their most unique offerings is the croffle -- a sweet waffle made with crépe batter. Light texture, subtle flavor, and some straightforward toppings and other combinations that are show-stopping.
