Parking however can be a challenge; that part of Selby ave is limited for parking due to so much in that area. I placed my order and to my surprise my order was the first thing to come out! Boy was thrilled. The pancake itself is huge, and the smell alone was amazing. The Dutch baby came with a couple different syrups, some lemon wedges, powdered sugar, and a jam. I decorated my pancake, and I went at it, it was heaven. Soft, flaky, sweet and definitely satisfying. It's a definite must if you're coming here for breakfast or even brunch. The restaurant got filled pretty quickly, it was on Labor Day that we visited, and when we arrived, there were not many tables that were occupied, but slowly the restaurant was filled. What I once knew as a tiny, cozy shop has expanded into an entire new section directly behind the original space allowing for more guests to visit. This is fantastic! I know the original owners of Cafe Astoria have stepped down, yet I'm pleased to say under the new ownership that many of the original decor and items remain the same from awhile back. The biggest transformations are the larger space, added painted mural, flexible ordering system where you can now order from a QR code at your table or walk up the register, expanded menu that includes brunch all day and items such as breakfast sandwiches and avocado toast. What went from a small crepe and specialty coffeehouse has truly grown. Don't worry the crepes and coffees are all still on the menu. Sort of like Chipotle, you get to pick what goes in your food or just select one of the existing recipes they suggest, like the Italian Rice Bowl, which was always my favorite. It's simple in flavor but it does make for a nice light lunch. I've never tried any of their crepes but some of my old coworkers have and they seemed to really enjoy them. Plus the crepes are a little bit more food and therefore I imagine more filling. Prices are fair for the mall, not any different from any other fast food spot you could go to. They have couple of tables you could eat at as well, so you don't have to walk all the way to the actual food court. This place is not to be confused with Freshii which actually is in the food court and has a similar concept but I don't think I like their items as much as these rice bowls. Like I said earlier, the biggest thing Freshens has going for it is the location in the mall. It just never gets busy because pretty much no one knows it's there. Well thinking I would go to Pho Hua instead, I pulled intonthe Shuang Hur Grocer's parking lot thinking I'd grab a few things before heading north on Eat Street. Then I saw signs on the Shuang Hur building for a (new to me) Vietnamese joint in the same building. Boy was I pleasantly surprised! My Huong is an 8-top hole in the wall across the parking lot from the rear of El Nuevo Mariachi Restaurant. The place is homely, small, but brightly lit and plenty of day light through the picture windows overlooking Eat Street. It's a big contrast to Pho 79 type places that are dim and short on ambience. The clientele shows. Instead of just a bunch of Asians throwing down Pho, it's a mix like you'd see at Quang or Eat Street Crossing. I was seated right away, was greeted by a cheery Vietnamese lady, and ordered Hu Tieu Bo Khu (Beef Stew Noodle Soup.) It was a dish I haven't seen before even though I have been to so many Vietnamese places (see my other reviews and lists.) The dish came very quickly, and I was shocked that they didn't bring it with a veggie plate. Oh well. Well the best way I could describe Hu Tieu Bo Khu, its basically a pot roast over noodles. So the beefy broth like a less spicey version of Bun Bo Hue, with flavors of lemongrass and star anise, nicely garnished already with what would have been on a veggie plate. The broth was delicious, slightly sweet with the carrots, and the beef was fall apart amazingly stewed with deep flavor. There were other menu items like Curry Chicken pho and a Stewed chicken rice dish I'd have to return and try!
