I ordered a cinnamon roll with a water. The cinnamon roll had just enough cinnamon, and the bread was soft, and the frosting was just enough sweetness. We then realized they also serve food so I ordered the egg salad sandwich with sweet potato fries. The wait staff were friendly and welcoming. The ambiance is of a vintage diner/ bakery and is super cute!

Since we were in the neighborhood and always enjoy comparison shopping, we thought we would visit Laus Czech Bakery to try their kolackys. They were just a short trip north from Montgomery. Laus is in another small town. In fact if we lived here, this is the type of place locals would visit daily. They have a bakery and they also serve coffee and other goodies. When we visited there were people sitting inside eating and visiting. Unfortunately for us they had the same type of kolackys but did not have any individual kolackys in their cases. All they had available was pre packaged kolackys. Since we had already tasted that style we elected to not purchase a pack of kolackys. Since we already had a bunch of goodies from our previous stop we decided to save ourselves as we had more goodies planned for our day. Next time we come back and we do a few times during the Fall, we'll pick up some other baked items to try.

A selection of donuts, with some very good ones.

I can only talk about the donuts, but I will be back later this year and hope to try the lunches. But for now, the donuts are our subject. And what a subject to think about! There is a good selection of fresh donuts. I was partial to be peanut butter frosted donuts, but the chocolate donuts with cream frosting are very good also. The prices are not bad, and the donuts are not the small kind where you need a couple at a time. However, you may want to have more than one of these because of the flavor. You can also find a selection of juices and hot drinks like coffee to go along with the donuts.

Great customer service here. Very warm people.

Driving through New Prague I decided to stop in for a donut and sandwich. Haven't been here in probably 30 years. A local older man said "they have the absolute best donuts in the area". I can't dispute that. She made me a cold ham sandwich on their wheat bread and with some chips. I also got some of their Kolackys, and a couple donuts for the morning. All that was just over $10!! I love small towns. Such nice folks here.

After seeing a segment on the news about the Kolaches or Kolacky's from Franke's in Montgomery,…read morebeing a big fan of these tasty treats I knew we had to take a road trip. They even have a Kolacky Days in Montgomery. My kind of days! Montgomery is a beautiful little town located about an hour south of the cities. We arrived just after 8am on a Saturday morning and they were busy. We went in and stood in line while we surveyed the goods. At first we didn't see any kolackys and thought maybe they were sold out. When the kind folks showed us where they were located, we were happy to see them but at the same time somewhat surprised as they were not what we were expecting. They looked like a dinner roll with some fruit filling. Well, maybe these are traditional. We ordered a couple of apply kolackys, a raspberry croissant, a cinnamon crunchy roll and a peanut ball. Sadly the kolacky was not what we expected. It tasted similar to a dinner roll with apple filling. Not bad, just not what we have previously enjoyed. The other items were good. I mean c'mon, I don't know that we've ever had a bad doughnut. Just ask Homer Simpson. Our favorite was the cinnamon cream cheese roll. We didn't get any cream cheese flavor otherwise this roll was crunchy with the pleasant taste of cinnamon. This was just our first stop on our road trip. We really enjoy small towns and bakeries so I'm sure we'll visit next time we are in the area as we can always eat a doughnut or three.
