Adventured here after seeing a movie in the area. I like checking out local ice cream shops as they tend to have more unique offerings. This is a walk up establishment. They have 2 windows. One to order, one to pick up. It was a warmer day so it pretty consistent w/ customers lining up. I seen that they have a strawberry soft serve, I mostly got it because it's pink ice cream, lol. I ended up getting it in a chocolate dipped cone. Ice cream was pretty good. Soft serve usually is. Just melts so fast and creates a sticky mess. Prices were the same as everywhere else but I feel like $7+ for soft serve ice cream is spendy but market price I guess. I did see a sign that they don't replace fallen ice cream which is understandable. They have a few seating options outside as well as there's a ton of city benches in the area. They also have a little play area for smaller kids which is nice. I'm not in this area much and I'm sure they close for the colder months but I'd probably check them out again if I'm out that way. read more

Always a great place to grab a cone or dish of ice cream on a lovely day (doesn't have to be summer, they are open all year!). You can either go with the classic soft serve option and the amazing things made from that (cones, sundaes, Blizzard-like treats, banana splits, etc.) or settle for hard hand-scooped ice cream. They carry Chocolate Shoppe brand which is the best hard ice cream brand out there, no questions asked. A good selection of flavors that can be added to, once again, a pretty vast menu. Prices are reasonable and service is great. If you are in downtown Lakeville and looking for dessert, look no further. They have different flavors you can add to the soft serve which is fun! They also have hard scoop Chocolate Shoppe ice cream, which is extra special to me as it originally comes from my hometown Madison WI! Along with many shakes, malts, sundaes and more! The outdoor space is friendly and inviting to the whole community. It's a small corner stand alone building, which is simple yet so unique! They have picnic tables, a swing set, benches, and some yard games and chalk for the kids. The only downside is the spiders along the building. We were visiting family in Eagan and so made our way down to Lakeville to check out one of the MN Scoop participating ice cream shop Dairy Delite. The storefront looks like a retrofit dairy queen to look like a 50s diner but you can't dine inside. It's just outdoor seating only. They have two kinds of ice cream: stuffy serve for shakes and malts and the regular scoop containers that are made by The Chocolate Shoppe Premium. We opted for a the scoop ice cream. Junior cup of the #onlyinmn ice cream flavor-Superman and a junior cup of the kitty kitty bang bang flavor. The ice creams are smooth and creamy. It was ok. Service was very show but only two teenagers were working and it seems the order numbers were out of order and not organized. Portion was on for the pricing compare to order places we've been to for ice cream. Probably only time we will be here since we don't really have any reason to come to Lakeville. read more

We happened to be in the area and saw Dairy Delite was having their opening weekend so we decided to stop by. They have a cute little swing set area and a ton of picnic tables nearby to enjoy your cool treats! We ordered a root beer float, junior scoop of mint chip, and a two scoop waffle cone of one of their specialty flavors called sticks & stones (Soft cookie dough chunks, crunchy chocolate covered pretzels, and a gooey salted caramel ripple). Everything was so delicious and refreshing! They were pretty busy, nothing better than some ice cream to cool off on a hot day! The staff were very friendly and our treats came out super quick. Price was average and about what you would expect, portions were good. The only downside is they didn't have umbrellas at their picnic tables, and on a sunny day like today those shady areas are a hot commodity! This area has so many different dining options from breweries to burgers and pizza as well as little specialty shops. Make a day of it -- have lunch then stop over for some delicious creamy treats! A landmark in Lakeville! I've been coming here since I was a kid as I grew up in Lakeville and now I take my kids here! In the summer we bike down around once a week for ice cream after dinner. The owners have changed since I was a kid, but the ice cream is awesome! They have some crazy flavors and many classics. Malta, shakes, soft serve and also food. I've never had their food as there are real restaurants in the same area with awesome food. We usually come for the ice cream. My favorite is the strawberry. My kids love all the crazy ones. There is also a wooden swing set in the parking lot for the kids to play on which is nice. Service is meh. It's a bunch of teenagers always working - which is fine! In the late 1980's, early 90's there was a band called Dee-lite, Dairy Delight is just as awful. We arrived to witness a hord of blank looking "customers" sitting outside staring into empty space holding small pieces of white paper. I assume these white pieces of paper are eventually exchanged for ice cream. I did not witness this so I could be wrong. We arrived at 8:45 and got in line behind a group of teenagers. Turns out these teens were friends with the young man working the counter. So their order took some extra time as they got caught up on current events and made their selections When they were done we got up to the window at 9:00 to order and the young man shut the order window and told us they were closed. Had his friends not had so much vital information to relay we might have gotten our order in before 9. Typically retail stores will not allow any additional people in line after closing but serve anyone that has been waiting in line before closing. That is not the Dairy Delight way. As we left I walked past the empty stares of hopeless customers holding small pieces of paper and thought this young man likely saved me. He saved me from joining the mob of ticket holding zombies that surrounded this little ice cream stand, much like the zombies surrounding the Monroeville Mall in the classic horror movie Dawn of the Dead. This will be ground zero of the ice cream zombie apocalypse. Delight = a high degree of pleasure or enjoyment; joy; rapture Dairy Delight = a soul sucking experience that ended in no dairy, and nothing Delightful. On second thought "Groove is in the heart" was a pretty catchy tune and far more delightful than this horror of an ice cream shop. read more

Unfortunately I live a couple blocks away from Dairy Delight, and I find myself there more than I should be. If you're an ice cream snob, you might not be too impressed, but if you just want some soft serve and a fun place to eat it, then this is a great spot for that. It also has playground equipment and one of those book exchanges. Although it isn't on the menu, they do have the normal vanilla, chocolate, and twist cones. They also have Flavor Burst equipment, so you can choose from some additional soft serve flavors. I like the mint. Although I'm adultish, I always find vestiges of green ice cream on me afterwards. I just got back from a five mile bike ride that I forgot to bring a water bottle on, so i decided to stop there for a cup of water and the lady who was working, i assume the owner because usually there are only 16 year olds that work there, refused to give me a cup of water. I politely explained that I had forgotten my water bottle and that I was getting dehydrated and still she quite rudely said no. I swear i could have been keeled over on the ground, gasping for air and she wouldn't have given me a second glance. Some people just lack common decency.
