Brought shirts, pants and winter coats but the best part was that they identified that one of my coats had real fur so they didn't want to clean the same as synthetic jackets, which could take a little longer. Im new to the area & needed a goto cleaners in the mid-town location that was quick, efficient, & affordable. Im really glad I stumbled upon this shop. I needed a dress hemmed & dry cleaned asap. My dress has layers of thin organza material & let me tell you, the seamstress did an amazing job! The seam was crisp, even, & looked as if it was bought that length. Completely unnoticeable, just like I wanted. I also have sensitive skin and have had rashes due to the detergents used by some cleaners in the past. I am glad to say my dress was clean, soft, crisp, & it did NOT cause my skin to react! I can't emphasize how important that is to me. Dry cleaned my Canada goose that was ruined from another dry cleaner and they did such a good due diligence to let me know what was wrong and had the tailor open up the coat to find out what was the issue, have been getting my coat dry cleaned there ever since!!! They do a really good job with stains. I've been coming here for the past few months and they're pretty consistent. The tailor does a pretty good job as well. I had a few pairs of jeans that needed to be shortened and patched up and they came out fantastic. I'm gonna bring in a jacket to get the lining replaced when I get a chance. read more

NO MERIT AT MERIT CLEANERS I actually joined Yelp, because of my nightmarish experience with this dry cleaner. Do not, I repeat, do not go to this dry cleaner. They will destroy your clothing and tell you the clothing was in that condition when you dropped it off. I had a brand new silk dress in need of some alteration, and because their location was two blocks from my then day job office location, I decided to give them a try. It was a simple alteration. The side seams needed to be taken in to fit a perfect size 6. I needed to have the dress altered as I was donating it for a high profile celebrity auction event. Before I dropped off the dress, I inspected it very carefully, as I wanted it to be perfect for the event. When I went to pick up the dress, I FOUND TO MY HORROR A DIME-SIZED HOLE -- a frayed hole! -- on the back of the dress. The young man behind the counter with glasses told me the hole was already there when I dropped it off! I said to him, "Why would I have a dress altered for an auction with a hole in it?" He insisted that there was a hole there to begin with. Wouldn't good service dictate that you would call the customer to let them know if you found a hole? Also, his grandmother-like tailor surely would have noticed. The tear was very, very obvious. Also, they surely would have noticed when this same fellow watched his tailor zip the dress up from the back when I tried it on to show them what needed to be fixed. Still he insisted that I was the one who tore it, and the hole was there when I brought it in. I was livid to say the very least. He had originally charged me $30 -- the dress was valued at over $400 -- and said he would only charge me $15. As far as I was concerned they shouldn't have charged me one cent. I tried to take the dress from him, and he grabbed it from me, and hid it in the back of his dirty shop. (Did I mention the place is dirty?) He said he wouldn't give me the dress unless I gave him $15. I finally gave him the $15, and went to Madame Paulette's on the Upper East Side. They charged me $150 to fix the hole. Don't go them. There is no merit to these guys whatsoever. In my 12 years in New York, my time working with garments, I have never encountered such lack of professionalism, service and accountability. Lived in the area a while ago, looking for a good cleaners (many in the area are not adequate) and ran into this great place. I have moved since but am still getting my things cleaned here. Normally picky about my clothes - especially my blouses and tops - and they have been great with them and extra careful - even recommending me on certain services that was deemed better for the type of fabric -- and they were right! What a nightmarish experience... I thought it was a convenient location because I was temporarily staying at a friend's apartment one block away. I've never had anything go wrong before at various drycleaners, but this place did a terrible job on the two dresses I dropped off :( One dress had very small pleats, but they obviously didn't press it because the pleating was all washed out. When I asked why the pleats weren't neatly pressed, they said that was the best they could do. Yeah right, they didn't even touch the washed-out pleats. I was adament about them pressing the pleats, so they took the dress back and I got it back 3 days later in the condition it should've been in. My second dress had beading on the front, and I had taken it in because it had a gum stain. When I first picked it up, the gum stain was gone, but the beads on the neckline had cracked! They said that they would take back the dress and fix it. They had messed up on both dresses, so it was very hard to believe when they said they'd fix both. Finally, almost a 2 weeks later, I got this dress back. They had to buy some beads, and for the unreplaceable beads, they had to repair the damaged lacquer coating on them to make it shiny again. It was not returned to me in the near-perfect condition in which I had given it over to them. Overall, I spent 2 weeks and 5 trips to get these 2 dresses dry cleaned! It should not have taken that much time and effort at a place that is more careful with customers' clothes. I do not recommend going here. Besides, they charge $3/shirt for wash and press when my new place will do it just for $2.25. I dropped a dress off here a few weeks ago with a fresh stain of coffee because I was freelancing in the neighborhoos. I was told coffee isn't too hard to remove especially if it is a new stain. I have had this experience before. But when I went to pick up the dress, there was another stain - this was a light grey cotton dress - on it, and it was ink! I know for sure it wasn't there before, and the coffee stain didn't come out. In fact it looked like they didn't even dry clean the dress! And they made me pay for it! I'd like to find a perc-free cleaner in the neighborhood but in the meantime, this cleaner is a perfectly decent cleaner in that my clothes are clean when I pick them up, and the turnaround is quick enough. They once damaged a clasp on my clothing and fixed it at no charge with no argument. [Note: Apparently their rates are standard in this neighborhood, so I won't count that against Merit, but am I working to be able to afford dry cleaning so I can have something to wear to work? I'm really confused why this place has such low reviews. I came to this place after an awful experience at midtown cleaners (don't ever ever EVER go to this place). They always clean my clothes on-time, delivers it back to my apartment not a day late. I love that everything is done on the facility as they don't send out your clothing elsewhere for dry cleaning so they can't ever lose your stuff. Not sure what the negative reviews are really. I've also done tailoring here too on some expensive dresses and they have always done a great job. I feel very comfortable leaving my clothes here and would highly recommend this place. read more

I don't know what people are waffling on about. Took my custom tuxedo and they did an excellent job before my wedding (otherwise they would have to answer to my wife, not me). I also live about 10 blocks south and call them up to pick up my dry cleaning from my doorman...they're that much better than the surrounding cleaners who consistently leave my shirts creased and lacking the appropriate amount of starch. read more

Eco merit cleaners on Madison ave is completely overpriced and provide nothing special when it comes to service. I gave them one shirt and one pant to dry clean which they charged $10.50 for each. This is a ridiculous price even for the city especially for a place that is nothing special. I had one stain on each clothing item and they were not able to get either stain off. I would suggest avoiding this place as there are much better options close by read more

Decided to use this dry cleaners since they were close to my job. Received one of my sweaters back with multiple strands of another individual's hair attached to the outside and inside of the sweater! I'm not sure if they clean/sanitize their machinery and equipment but I am extremely disgusted and will never use this dry cleaners again! This is the equivalent of going out to eat and finding hair in your food! read more

The tailor is a gem. I was on my way out of town and wanted to take a favorite Escada suit with me. I took it in and explained that I would be leaving in a few hours.
