I don't like posting negative reviews about a company. But I have been put on HECO for 2 years because of non functioning inverter. My solar system was installed in 11/2019. There have been several service calls due to inverter issues. And in August 2024, I was instructed by Solar technician to turn off solar system and be on HECO. Scott responded in April 2026 that a new EG 4 inverter was on its way. Since then, there has been no response from Scott or Sue to my repeated calls or messages. I would like to consider this as an isolated case, but without communication, how can this be resolved? read more

They are a completely unprofessional company. Look at the photos attached. If you would be happy with these results then hire them. If not go with another company. The solar constantly would trip until we called an actual electrician to fix it. They did not even use correct enclosures that should be rated for outdoor use. Look at the pictures and decide for yourself if this is the company for you. They left holes in the ceiling from walking on the drywall. Mercury Solar provided a top-of-the-line. American (not Chinese) integrated battery charger-inverter, solar panels, batteries, and top notch installation. Additional breakers and switches were installed for safety and reliability. I am very pleased with the materials and workmanship supplied. They were able to do this in spite of being near the year end, and I was able to get the tax credits for the year. With the website or phone app, I am able to instantly see the power usage, battery charge status, charge rate and utility usage. I can see when clouds temporarily reduce the rate of charge. I can even see the power drawdown at night and see when the refrigerator powers on and off. The monthly power bill is minimal. I am very pleased with Mercury Solar. read more

Since installing the off-grid battery backup system from Mercury Solar in 2015, I have been experiencing recurring nightmares. From day one, the system has been unreliable, with frequent power surges that cause the system to switch back and forth between HECO and Solar battery power, up to four times a minute. I've had to manually select the switch from Solar battery to HECO to address the issue. The power surges have led to the replacement of my split AC, refrigerator, dishwasher, and several other electric appliances. Despite my complaints, no one has been able to resolve the issue. I resorted to installing a power surge protector and UPS power backup and switch my system from solar to HECO after 7 pm and back to solar in the morning if sunny days. Recently, I experienced a new issue where I had no power in my garage and bedroom, even after switched to HECO. This was unacceptable, so I contacted Sue for assistance. Unfortunately, after explaining the situation, I received no further assistance. I then reached out to Scott Sparkman, the owner, via email. On 1/20/2024, he informed me he had COVID and would send someone to check the system. Despite exchanging emails until 2/22/24, no one has shown up, and my repeated calls and messages have gone unanswered. read more

Mercury Solar designed our solar system in 2012 with 13 Panels. In 2019 we added 6 more panels along with a battery storage system which was an off-grid installation. The cost of our installed systems were 30%- 50% lower than the estimates received from other solar companies. We found that Mercury's installations were without any major problems. Costs for electricity dropped from nearly $250 a month to under $14. Scott, the owner and designer of the solar systems, is truly a genius. He's an electrician, plumber and a talented businessman. Mercury Solar has also been responsive in answering our questions. The secretary Sue is first rate and very concerned about her customers. We've had few problems with the systems. The company has been in business since 1979 and has installed thousands of solar systems. We have looked at other customers' reviews. It is thoughtful to mention that the reviews are the not checked for accuracy by Yelp. Competitors can write anything they want about Mercury Solar. There is no way to remove inaccurate or false reviews. I recommend that one gets 2 or 3 references from Mercury and then call their customers to get an accurate assessment of their installations. Talking to the owner of Mercury Solar would be useful also. He will discuss the payback period using rebates from the state and the US governments and the reduction in utility costs. He also can cover financing if one needs that. Scott is very personable, clever, and you would find him very helpful when discussing various systems that are available such as solar panels, hot water heating panels, and a battery system with off-grid profile. read more

The whole crew at Mercury Solar is very professional and nice. I had a problem with my 30 year old solar water heater system. The water wasn't getting hot, and Sue did everything to make sure I was able to get the hot water going until they were able to come out and service it. I highly recommend this company. Scott Sparkman and his team installed a complete solar system for me with batteries about 7 months ago. I have a very compromised space in a storage closet near the carport, and Scott's brilliant and efficient design addressed all my concerns. Our original water heater panels were installed by Mercury Solar over 30 years ago. My current water heater is leaking and is need of replacement. I emailed Mercury Solar twice and have yet to receive a response of any sort from them. We have had our Solar Water Heater purchased and serviced by Mercury Solar for the pas 15 or so years. We are very happy and blessed to have them service our solar water heater. A couple of weeks ago we had contacted Mercury to let them know that we had a small leak problem with our water heater lines that are connected to the Solar Panel. The Line was very old. They sent two men out to our home to fix it. The one bigger man who probably was the supervisor, really impressed me with his knowledge of the Solar Water business. My husband and I have been making payments for a year on our system that we don't have yet. We can't even get a straight answer about what is taking so long with the permit. My husband called the permit office and they said that it was canceled. He has tried to talk to Scott about it and still no resolution. They keep offering to send money to off set our electric bill, but we had to claim on taxes. We just want our pv system installed. read more

Terrible response record call them for five times with promises of sending and scheduling an inspector and have received no response whatsoever. I have a system installed by mercury and have problems which are undeterminable, I needed a check up since they were the original installer. It has been at least one year with no response. We used Mercury Solar to install PV panels and it was NOT a good experience. The first red flag was when they showed up to install the panels and the guy installing them was on the phone with his boss telling him how to put the panels in! After the panels were installed the roof started to leak where they had drilled holes in the roof. We complained about it, but they insisted that this was not due to them, when clearly the hole in the roof was due to the panels. This finally was resolved. The panels appeared to not be working well and there was not much energy created. We called them again and they informed us that the Sunny Boy they installed was too small for the number of panels that were put in!! Really! You would think that they would know this! The Sunny Boy was changed to a larger one. Today, panels still not generating much power. There are 28 panels and the estimate it that they should produce about 500 kWh but it is only producing about 70-200 kWh. I have called them to discuss this issue, but no one calls back. Basically my electric bill went from $300 to now $250. I would NOT recommend this company. They are very eager to sell you expensive panels, but they don't want to follow up with you when there is an issue. Poor customer service!! read more

We recently had Mercury Solar install nine additional PV panels at our home, in addition to the existing Net Metering system which they installed on our roof several years ago. They got it done in a short period of time before the end of the year, as we required. We selected Mercury Solar for this installation in large part because of our experience with them. It started over 20 years ago, when they installed our solar water heater system. The excellent service they provided for that system was a major factor in our decision to have them install our initial PV system, as was the knowledge of their sales representative, a former installation tech. Been working with Mercury Solar since I first installed the solar panels for the water heater 15 years ago. Added photovoltaic and batteries about 5 years ago.Took a while for Scott to get back to me however, we finally got things worked out. I am awaiting replacement batteries as he honored the warranty on the older batteries that were not charging properly. Installing more panels for the AC installation. I have used Mercury Solar at different homes over the past twenty years. I have been happy with pricing and installations. More important to me than the actual installations is the after sales service. Whenever I have had any issues, they have promptly addressed my concerns. I would recommend them for hot water solar panels and photo voltaic panels. I was able to take advantage of both the federal and state tax credits. You should check if you can with your tax accountant as it plays an important part in the decision. They assured me that I could come to them with any questions even after the installation took place and to include help with tax questions to ensure I maximized my tax incentives. The installation went extremely smooth and the team of workers who put in the panels and hot water heater went the extra mile to answer all my questions and ensure I fully understood how the system worked. My experience with Mercury Solar was not as pleasant as advertised. The salesman was clearly good at his job; they oversold a product with average quality and below average customer service. Their financing offers are misleading and complex. The state and federal tax credits they claimed would make this installation affordable never materialized. Thus, I was stuck with a bill nearly twice as expensive as originally quoted. I was promised installation of my backup battery system in January of 2017. It is now June, and I have yet to see any batteries or even have my panels wired into the grid. They remain useless on my roof. We purchased blazing tubes and a hot water tank. The salesman assured us they had cracked the code with permitting, and sure enough the company had the tubes installed within 3-4 weeks. But almost a year later we STILL don't have the new hot water tank installed that we PAID FOR almost A YEAR AGO. Every time we call we get one excuse after the other. I have purchased 57 pv panels from mercury solar, plus 2 for my hot water heater. Scott is a great salesman in that he isn't pushy and follows through on his promises. I had a couple problems with my most recent battery backup system and Scott answered his phone on the weekend and helped me resolve the issue, which turned out to be just a reset button that had tripped due to a power surge. I went out to three companies and Mercury Solar provided me the best offer for my buck. The system is now installed (21 panels) which should give me a zero electric balance with the Hawaii Electric Company (except for $16 monthly grid connection fee). 1 year later, battery top covers have begun to warp and spring off both batteries. initial install I made it clear that their system was under rated to cover out house, and that I would want to finish filling out the roof. I have sent out multiple emails, but no response. to both of these topics. other then when I initially sent them an email about the warping battery, then called me right up, now nothing. obviously screening calls, dodging emails. i could not be any less happy with a company as i am with mercury solar. i would rather still be paying heco then have the years taken off my life stressing over this solar system falling apart and no one being around to service it. use anyone else, pay a little more if you have to. call the company phone numbers as though you were looking for a repair and see how easy it is to get ahold of someone, before you are stuck with a company that wont return your calls, emails, or messenger pigeons. the company pays for 5 star reviews, so dont trust any you 5's see here. read more

I have been a customer of Mercury Solar for many years and things went well at the beginning. But they have left me high and dry in the last several years when I asked them to take down my solar system that they installed because Heco informed me that I had to turn it off. So it is not generating any electricity for me and one of the five panels blew off my roof due to high winds. I've been asking them for years to come and dismantle the system because at this point it is just a liability for me, but they will not service me. I've wanted solar panels for almost 15 years, but always assumed that they were way too expensive. So I was really excited when I worked with a sales guy from Mercury who showed me that a PV system pays for itself in about two years when you include tax credits with the savings of not paying HECO a monthly bill. My system got put in last week. Took two days total, the first day the electrician wired up the house for our system. The second day a crew of three guys installed the racking, 10 panels, and the inverters. By the time they left that afternoon, my meter was running backwards - cha ching. I appreciated that my sales guy Adam Prokop came over to visit us twice. The numbers are hard to grasp the first time and he ran through the state subsidy, federal subsidy, and carbon credits that make the system affordable. He also worked with our townhouse board to get permission. The only problem I had was that the digital monitoring device, which is supposed to tell you how much $$ or CO2 you're saving didn't work. Adam came out the next day with a new one - which was a wow factor for me. Overall, I'm really happy with the job Mercury did, and I recommend Adam (203)994-0637. read more
