AREPAS are round, flat cornmeal patties that are often split open and filled with a variety of ingredients like shredded beef, chicken, cheese, or vegetables. They can be grilled, baked, or fried. CACHAPAS are thick, pancake-like creations made from fresh corn dough.

Cornmeal Gold in Polanco…read more Órale Arepa offers a polished setting in Mexico City's high-end Polanco district, and with that comes a matching price tag--nearly $50 USD for a late lunch for two. Expected for the neighborhood, but steep for what is, at heart, elevated Venezuelan street food. We ordered the arepa tasting: six warm, griddled half-arepas served like DIY fajitas, with two meats, three cheeses, and three house-made sauces (chipotle, garlic, and avocado). The format encouraged creativity, but 60% of the offerings leaned on cheeses--mostly mild, forgettable, and largely untouched on our plates. The grilled and pulled meats were solid, as were the arepa bases: crisp-edged, warm, and fragrant. The sauces helped pull it all together, though often had to do too much of the flavor work. A side of avocado and underripe tomato did little to elevate the meal. Service was attentive and kind--our server's advice not to over-order was spot on. But while the experience was pleasant, the food fell short of memorable. For the price, there simply wasn't enough depth or distinction. A generous 3 stars.

This is the 3rd time I've been back to Panaderia Rosetta for a guayaba roll (guava roll). I also tried the maíz concha and the pan de muerto this last time--both were delicious. I would easily order the concha de maíz and the guava roll next time around no questions asked. They are both delicious and very different from each other. For foreigners, especially coming from the US, the prices are very fair given the quality and notoriety of the bakery. We're so used to getting ripped off at coffee shops in the states. By Mexican standards, it's expensive and definitely a treat. Tourist trap or not, it's delicious and a must if you're visiting CDMX.

The place was really well decorated for day of the dead, you can definitely tell why this place is always on people's IG. Staff was nice and served people quickly. We got the guava pastry which was definitely superior to the other two we tried. The guava did have a really good strong flavor which can be hard to find for guava which was well balanced with what I was assuming was a cream cheese base. The pan de muerto wasn't as good as some others I've tried. Would go for the guava pastry but not sure you need to wait too long in line for anything else.

Where to start?! I guess I will say I feel lucky to have gotten a reservation within a 2 1/2 week…read morewindow. Even though it was at 9:15 p.m. I had awoken that morning at 230 a.m. Eastern standard time and flew to Mexico City and conducted business all day long and finally after checking into the hotel was able to eat dinner really late at night. The staff from the very beginning were impeccable. Made sure that we were relaxed and had everything we possibly could want. We did opt for the tasting menu with the wine pairings. The evening started with a couple glasses of sparkling Mexican wine. It is the second time in my Life I had sparkling from Mexico, the first occasion being at my oldest daughter's wedding... This time the quality of the sparkling was much higher. The meal also begins with a local Crudité, fresh guacamole, and Panera cheese. You didn't get to choose four more courses, each course with 4 to 6 options...and another mole course. We then got to choose a cold starter: abalone and pork ear tiradito, and I chose the Wagyu salpicon. both were excellent. Next comes the warm starter: she went with the octopus (as she always does when she sees it on the menu it being one of her favorite mariscos) and I decided to go with the Chile ancho stuff with squash blossoms and cheese. We both agreed she won this round! The next course is the main course: she opted for the beef cheek Barbacoa and I with the pork belly chicharron. We both agreed that we tied on this one because they were both delicious! Then comes the mole course! This is the interesting you get two more one darker and one more of a reddish brick color. And if I'm not mistaken we were told that the one mole had been going for almost 7 years and the reason for is because there was no meat in it. I can tell you that I was so tired at that point and after so many Great glasses of wine I was starting to relax to the point that we're almost didn't care what they said in front of me! Finally dessert came: and she selected the corn pudding with a Cajeta ice cream, I decided to go with the lemon Carlota (but only because they were out of the chocolate cake which I so badly wanted). We all have to make choices in life and sometimes our first choice is not there. I can say that my dessert was delicious and I was not upset at all, but I am a chocolate kind of a guy lol. They also brought a special dessert of tiramisu. Again both desserts were phenomenal; they were delicious. This is a perfect example of how wonderfully elevated Mexican cuisine can be. I challenge anyone reading this who feels that Mexican food is beans and rice and tortillas to make it a point to get here. It will change your mind on what Mexican food is and what Mexican astronomy can be.

Host quickly found my resy & walked me over to the indoor bar area where the menu for the evening was already placed on my plate. Started w/ a glass of white wine & then moved into the first course 10 mins later. Each course took around that time to come out before they explain the dish & then you enjoy. I will say...the scallop/snail cocktail with the cucumber tostada was one of my favorites of the night. The other being the dessert (churro was melt-in-your-mouth good). Service was where it got a bit spotty at times. For starters, the sommelier disappeared before I finished my first glass of wine & I had to call him over when he finally reappeared. For the last course, they told us we would be eating our dessert in the lower bar area, near the entrance. One of the servers proceeded to grab my wine glass without explaining he would bring it down for me (I can carry my own wine glass, but thanks lol). It had started raining when we were eating our earlier courses so the downstairs bar was cold & they neglected to turn on the heaters (though they were on closer to the host stand). Asked a few of the other patrons if they wanted a blanket but didn't extend the offer to everyone else. Overall, service could be more attentive & the food was pretty good but some dishes (even the mole) were a bit underwhelming. Tasty but not out of this world amazing. Plating/presentation was fine. Glad I tried it & definitely left full....so got my money's worth at least.

As someone who always struggles with trying to figure out what the "right" thing to order is, I absolutely loved not having to worry about this and rather sitting back and enjoying the vibes/ talking to strangers while awaiting "surprise" dishes. They were also able to cater to my vegan diet with every dish being so unique and tasty. We came by twice and between the two visits every dish we had was different. This was overall probably the most fun and tasty meal we had in Mexico City Some tips: - the restaurant is cash only so make sure to bring cash - there's no reservations so make sure to come early because lines are common. We got lucky in that we stopped by on weekdays when it was less busy

The concept sounds great. The wait list sounds organized. But no. We were told to put our name in WhatApps for a 40 minute wait. We rushed back in time and still waited another 30 minutes for a communal style table. Then, food came out in rounds, but the rounds were for all tables at the same time, so there was a 20-30 minute wait between each dish, about the size of a palm of the hand. There were no utensils, so we ate everything by hand. While waiting for the food, a street vendor came by to sell carpets. We were extremely tired at this point and decided to leave after 2 underwhelming dishes and 1 dessert. The total time was over 1 hour to wait for a table and over 1 hour for only 3 unfulfilling dishes. I do not trust the Michelin system and this place is a proof of it. Food was good, but by no means excellent or out of this world. Had they brought out the food after 10 minutes, it would have been more acceptable. It wasn't worth the hype in my opinion due to the extreme wait and hold between each dish. I and family also felt extremely gassy soon after, and mind you, this was our first lunch in CDMX. There were only 4 communal tables, about 30 seats. No restroom! Cash only or local transfer.
