Yet another restaurant I really want to love :/ Came to Mera for the vibes (hookah, ambiance, the works) for a girls night out this past Tuesday, 1/25/2022. YALL. I was seated at a table and had to flag the waiter to offer me a drink. Whatever. Restaurant was moderately busy and she seemed to be the only waitress/bartender. She never brought water to the table 15 minutes later, my girlfriend arrived. We were catching up and after about 45 min, we noticed the waiter hadn't returned to take our food order or her drink order. We flagged the waiter again and my friend ordered her drink (still no water brought to the table). At this point, we had hookah and we were chatting again. ANOTHER 30-45 MIN PASS AND OUR ORDER HADN'T BEEN TAKEN NEITHER WERE WE CHECKED ON. You'd think after approaching the waitress twice, she'd be keen to check on us right? Wrong. Flagged waitress again to take our order and she said "I thought you were only ordering drinks." Like girl. How did you draw that conclusion?! We're seated at a table, hello! Anyways our food took another 30 min. We took some pics and was gone. We were in the restaurant a total of 3 hours. Food: 8/10 I ordered seafood pasta. Highly recommend !! My sorority sisters & I came here on a weekday evening after seeing this place on IG. We were greeted by host and seated. I made reservations as it was highly recommended and based on the size of this establishment; I'd also recommend making reservations. The restaurant was clean, nice and decor was beautiful; they also seemed to adhere to COVID regulations of social distancing the best they could. One thing to note is they have HH from 5-8 Monday-Fri. Their HH drink and food menu is pretty good. The music was also really good; had a dj that evening. They also have hookah. We had: Fries (pretty decent) Wings(they were ok but the sauce is good and a little spicy) Sliders (pretty decent) Pizza (very good & portion was pretty good) Cabernet Prosecco All in all I will be returning and would definitely recommend this establishment to other. First, and foremost is the decor and the arrangement or this venue. It was amazing, and bountiful with the drink from our server. I ordered the blueberry jewel. It's was blue berry, mint leaves with ginger beer and vodka. Very nice and smooth. The ginger beer resale made it a favorite for me. The vodka was hidden and made it feel like it was a regular drink. The mint was fresh and crisp m. The hookah "love 66", which was smooth and a nice hint of mint. This recommended by our server due to having a nasal congestion. The refilling of the coals were on point and the cleanliness of the hookah was impressive. I ordered the calamari fried hard, they needed cocktail sauce. Marina just doesn't do it for calamari. It was nice and well cooked and paired with the seas food pasta. The pasta consisted of calamari, shrimp, and mussel. I took home dessert and the chicken kabob with fries and the rosemary lamb chops. The only reason i wouldn't give this place 5 stars is because, the wait for the food and it wasn't a lot of people when we got there. Other than that everything was great. My friend and I came to Mera on a Saturday evening for dinner and we had a good experience. Despite Mera being primarily a hookah bar, the service and food were good. We were immediately attended to by the waiter who was personable and attentive to our needs. To start the night, my friend and I ordered the calamari and the spiced meatballs. The calamari was average and could have been better if it was hotter and crispier. The spiced meatballs were nicely seasoned on top of a serving of polenta (that tasted like mashed potato?) and had a good portion of parmesan to garnish but was not something we never had before. While the appetizers were average the entrees were the stars of the night. I ordered the australian lamb chops and my friend ordered the grilled salmon. The lamb chops were perfectly seasoned and came with a side of well seasoned potatoes and perfectly roasted asparagus. The only thing out of place was the homemade barbecue sauce with the lamb chops which I felt were better without. The grilled salmon was juicy and cooked to a perfect medium rare. The salmon was served with eggplant puree, zuchini puree, and asparagus that came together perfectly. Overall, if you're in the Gravesend area, give this place a try! read more

09/19/2021 - Mera - Turkish Restaurant Mezze Trio - very flavorful but lack a pinch of salt. Mera Wings - very well cooked chicken wings with no after taste or funky smell. Could use bit of sauce for extra flavor. Chef Burger - Extremely well crafted burger cooked medium-well with perfectly seasoned fries. Chicken Kebab Plate - This one was tricky as the Sheppard Salad and French fries were awesome. Chicken was cooked to a point where you can use it to hit someone and cause injury. Half Roasted Lemon Chicken - Perfectly Roasted and marinated chicken with nice crispy skin. I strongly feel it lacked some kind of reduction sauce to complement the well crafted dish. Seafood Pasta - This was truly amazing and highlight for us. Perfectly cooked and seasoned to perfection. The chef here definitely know how to handle the seafood. Napoloen - let's just say I have extremely good Napoloen at other places. Overall this was a good experience. We inquired couple of times about the Halal Food as they have full bar. I got takeout with a bunch of friends and we ordered a bunch of stuff to try. We got the lamb kebab, chicken kebab, falafel, meatball, truffle fries, lemon garlic fries, calamari, and seafood spaghetti. The kebab orders come with a salad! When we went to pick up the order though they did forget our lamb kebab. We called back and went back to pick it up. The lamb kebab came with 5 pieces of lamb bites and some rice along with a salad. The lamb taste wasn't too strong and it was good. The calamari fritti was pretty good and they gave a good amount. A NEIGHBORHOOD GEM ! The place is beautiful, great atmosphere, ambiance, service, spacious, and hands down one of the best restaurants in the neighborhood. Every dish we ordered was amazing. Food was made to perfection. From the kebab plate ( half chicken/lamb) good enough for 2 to share, to the fries, Mera wings, falafel plate ( MY FAV, don't leave without ordering this ). Not a single complaint. At night it's more of a lounge, there's a bar, & they offer hookah. On some nights, they have a live drummer which makes the party more livelier. ***UPDATE: Gordon Ramsey would have a field day at this restaurant owner's customer service skills. He is clearly very rude and doesn't know how to conduct a business to satisfy customers. We cleaned up the spill ourselves. I will continue to respond as many times as needed to his absurd allegations. None of what I said was rude even though I can easily do so. Just be realistic with what you can accommodate in your space. Coal from the hookah fell on my jean jacket and burned two holes through my cousin's jean jacket. This place when from a casual, "let's try this" date to being there practically every week. I love love love the staff they're super cool and make it a great food experience. They're mera wings are TO DIE FOR! Theyre char grilled with a spicy sauce on the side you really cannot go wrong we get 2 orders every time we go. As you could see there's a pattern with the truffle fries so those are a no brainer. The lemon garlic fries are 110% a runner up as well soooo good. Oof, boy do I dislike giving places a less than fab review but here we go. The exterior (and also maybe interior) looks pleasant, however, the flavors (and definitely the presentation) of the delivered food is not as pleasant. For starters, the lamb burger was incredibly dry; dry to the point where it gave my jaw a workout. I believe it came with fries...? They were in the bag so let's go with that assumption. FYI, I absolutely adore fries but I did not love these. Don't get me wrong, I'd still chow down the tater sticks since I cannot say no to potatoes, but I much prefer the fries from Five Guys, Popeye's, McDonald's, Pommes Frites, any steak and fries joint, my home, anywhere but here. The kebab platter came with 3-4 chunks of lamb over a bed of rice. There was a small salad that accompanied it along with a small sauce container of lemon juice dressing. These meat pieces aren't as tough to chew and slightly, just a smidgen, better tasting than the lamb burger. It was not gamey tasting at all, but we did add our own sauce to make the meal enjoyable/easier to eat. I always advocate supporting local businesses and want them to thrive so I do wish Mera improves. read more

The food was really good, but the service was horrible. There's one server for the entire floor, who also has to bartend. I'm no restaurant connoisseur, but I'm sure a restaurant should not be ran like this. Lastly, the hookah is horrible. The flavors they have seem to not pull correctly. I really had high expectations for this restaurant. Considering Mediterranean food is my FAVORITE. Every year for my birthday I pick a different restaurant to have dinner with my cousins. In addition I had reservations at a local spot in Williamsburg at 11:15pm after. We arrive and we're told to wait outside for 10 minutes. We figured it was because they're we're clearing and cleaning out tables for the next party's. At this point it was about 920. We get told it will be an additional 10 minutes and they welcomed us in the lobby to wait. Around 930 we ask the hostess how long more? He said there was a table clearing out and we will be seated next they were paying the bill. In fact they were NOT paying the bill and proceeded to order more. Now it was 947 and we ask again "how long?& we had reservations for 9 it's my birthday and I have somewhere else to be at 1115". There was no way I was going to sit at 10 get my food enjoy the place and be out in a half out. The hostess responds with the rudest remark and says " well if you want there is other options of places to eat " i looked at him like he was crazy for even saying that. He then proceeded to say " well it's like when you go to the doctors office and you have to wait ". I said " I can't even believe you're comparing a doctors office to a reservation ". We were sooooo DISGUSTED that we walked out. There is no way you can tell me you're a successful restaurant and handle patronage like this ?! On top of the fact that woman were in the bathroom complaining about how long it took for their food to come out. Please handle your restaurant accordingly. I have lots of thoughts, so let's get into it. My dinner here last night was definitely unplanned, however, it was not the first time it came up as an option. My brother was supposed to have his birthday dinner at Mera a couple of months back, but we decided to celebrate in Queens instead. In retrospect, Im sort of glad that we ended up elsewhere because we were a really large group and judging by the service we received tonight, I highly doubt it would've been a pleasant experience. It was just my friend and I, we arrived a a little before 10:30 PM. Their late night hours are definitely on the list of pros. It's really not common for any restaurant or bar to be open until 2 AM during the week, especially in this part of Brooklyn. It was not busy at all. There was 1 large group who I assumed were celebrating a birthday and packing up to leave, a party of two seated all the way in the back and one couple at the bar. The hostess allowed us to pick where we wanted to sit because it was slow, so we sat at a four top near the back. Right off the bat, the place is beautiful. Whoever was in charge of the interior design really knew what they were doing. Easily a great spot for a date night, girls night or birthday dinners as far as aesthetics go. My main issue was the service. The hostess was very sweet and took our order pretty quickly, but it's almost like everything went downhill from there. Our entire order was placed either sometime before 10:30 or right around that time and by 11 PM we still only had water. The people next to us had already left. Couple at the bar? Gone. 90% of the birthday party had left minus two girls apparently still waiting on a to go order. Meanwhile, another couple and someone going to the bar were being seated, having their orders taken when I noticed the server/bartender starting to make a drink for the gentleman at the bar. It looked like both parties were familiar with the staff. That's when I waved the busser over and asked if he could please check on our drinks. I saw her drop what she was doing and get started on our order, so I just know from experience that she forgot about our ticket. They came out within minutes. My spicy margarita was pretty good and actually spicy. Mistakes happen, but there was literally nothing going on when we got there and 30 minutes of a wait time for 2 drinks is crazy. One consistent flaw I kept seeing in other reviews was slow service and they were not lying. Our food didn't come out until around 11:15-11:25. Almost an hour for a burger and fries and a piece of salmon. Burger had to be sent back because they gave him regular fries instead of the truffle parma fries and I'm pretty sure they didn't change a damn thing. My salmon was cooked to a perfect medium but was lacking salt. A pity really because they did well with crispy skin and temp. The tabouleh was cold and not my fave, if it was meant to be like that then whatever. Eggplant purée was cold. Asparagus was good, needed salt as well. Too high of a price point for the underwhelming execution. The vibe of this spot matches the prices and what they're *trying* to achieve with their menu but the terrible service paired with the just okay food just makes everything fall short. Overall, if I were to go back it would be for the bar. I definitely would not even bother trying to dine with a large group of people unless you're someone who knows the staff because that seems to get you better & quicker service. 2.75/5. read more

Came here for a girls night out with my two best friends. We ordered a ton of appetizers. We had the hummus trio, which came with hummus, babaganoush, and eggplant spread. The hummus and eggplant spread was really good but we weren't crazy about the babaganoush. One of my best friends ordered a soup and the shepherd salad. The soup was good, she said but the salad was a bit too bitter. The truffle fries were really good, always a favorite and go-to of mine when I see it on the menu. We also ordered drinks, the best one of the strawberry mojito, all the other ones we weren't so crazy about and yes, we basically tried one of each haha. I get a call from a woman from Mera stating that there is a $65 per person charge for the table. Mind you, nowhere in the reservation did it say there was a fee and definitely not for $65 per person. What exactly am I paying $65 for? A seat? No live music, no drinks included, no bottle included, so yeah $65 to have my fine behind seat on a chair. This place a joke. I'm a white woman so I don't use the race card much but this place was sad. I made a reservation for 5 via open table a week prior and the reservation went through but I never received email confirmation. I called Mera and the hostess said " the owner kicked out the reservations and I can't tell you why sorry but you can walk in" We decided to come here anyways. Walked in. Was told they were overbooked even for reservations and we could stand at the bar. SIX tables available but again we were told " there was none and they were over booked" An hour and 30 min later as we stood by the bar, still no one was at those tables. As time trickled on two hours later, weirdly only 5ft 9 RUSSIAN and other white European blonds were sat at the tables. Now I don't consider myself an "ugly woman" but we were dressed down. And Anyone who didn't look the part (tall, lean, and in a mini dress) were pushed to the bar. This establishment lies to their customers and picks and chooses who sits at tables based on looks. I loved the atmosphere of Mera and the fact that I could have apps, dinner, dessert, tea and hookah all in one location. All the food was so delicious and the hookah was great too with the ice hose. The drinks were refreshing and they even brought us free shots at the end. I would definitely recommend and go again next time I'm in the area. read more

The staff is very friendly and welcoming! Stop in and try this place out ASAP. We live only a few blocks away and we're saddened when the other business at this location closed. We tried Mera last night and were so happy that we could go down the block again for some drinks and a good time. The food is fantastic and the decor is beautiful. The staff were so friendly and welcoming. They made us aware of many changes coming soon including weekend DJ's and full service bar with alcohol and bar stools. We ordered the trio dip sampler which was amazing . It came with grilled pita that was hot and fresh. We decided to order desert and coffee with hookah in order to try it out. They are adding more food to the menu as well! It's an extremely relaxing place and I'm m extremely excited to bring friends here for some good times. It's the perfect spot whether you want to just hangout and smoke hookah or just sit down and relax while eating food. The cheesecake and baklava were perfect. I'm so sick of this place trying to take advantage of their patrons. The first time I went here, I was charged for kettle one in my blueberry jewel, when I asked for Tito's. It was an up charge of about $4 a drink. I came here the other night, and they tried charging my friend and I for an extra drink, thinking we had drank enough to not catch this on the bill. A blueberry jewel is $16, but somehow the check dropped from $160, to $138 after pointing out that they added an extra one onto the bill. I called in for a reservation earlier in the week asking if the restaurant would be able to accomodate a party of 16 and the person said it would be possible according to his manager. Upon arriving to the restaurant we quickly noticed that we would not have enough space and asked for an extra table and they said that they did not have any available when we clearly saw an available one. The rest of our party arrived and they did not even have a seat to sit in. Very embarassing for any establishment. Aside from the seating situation, the service was terrible. My boyfriend was the last person to recieve his food after being at the restaurant for 2 hours at that point (on top of that, the food was quite bland and disappointing for the price point) Our waiter was also incredibly rude to our entire party for expressing our concerns. Worst of all, we had booked the reservation for a celebration and they had added a 25 dollar cake cutting fee?? Never in my entire dining experience (and at higher end places at that) have I been charged a "cake cutting fee". They also did not return the remainder of the cake until we asked them to pack it up for us. Overall I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone and I would have much rather gotten a gyro from down the block. **update to the owner's response** Very telling of the type of attention they put into their business if they don't remember taking a reservation THREE days prior per the screenshot attached and the fact that the reservation admittadly had 15 people. Either way the amount of tables could under no circumstances comfortably fit 15 let alone 16 people. If there was no room to accomodate I do not understand why you would agree to the reservation. Pleasing our group does not mean making a group of fasting people wait 2 hours for their food. My friend invited me out to this hookah bar/restaurant in south Brooklyn so of course I was intrigued. It was a Saturday night so the place was relatively busy but the staff is courteous and keeps checking on you to make sure you are doing well. For main I ordered the chicken kebab dish, and we sipped on cocktails throughout the night. For hookah, we enjoyed the watermelon special which was hitting wonderfully and tasted super fresh. The food is good, they have lots of options on the menu but the chicken was somewhat hard and I left most of the dish over since I could not finish it. Came to this place on a Saturday night, the ambiance was great and noise level was ok for dinner time around 7pm. It was a cold night, and unfortunately the seats near the windows aren't insulated very well, so you can feel a draft on cold nights. The food was ok, my wife and I had the mera wings which were good (although for the price I expected more wings) and I had the grilled salmon and my wife had the seafood salad which she did not enjoy. In terms of seating, it's a bit tight, as the tables are close together, which is problematic as people get up to use the restroom. There is hookah available, but since the seating is a bit tight, it takes away from the enjoyment. For the price, overall this place was just ok. read more
