I have been going to Dr. Mendel for many years now and it's always been a very positive experience. Dr. Mendel is super nice and friendly. He makes you feel very comfortable, explains everything he is doing, and is very empathetic if you are wary of eye exams. He's also helped me with headaches due to wearing my contacts too much, and treated me for pink eye. I haven't gotten a new pair of eye glasses in awhile, but I do love my Tory Burch pair I got a few years back. The ladies behind the counter are also very friendly and helpful. I will call them occasionally to send me my prescription or order more contacts and they are usually very attentive and responsive. read more

Brought my mom's prescription here for her glasses 2 months ago . And still haven't received her glasses always the same answer they didn't get anything from the lab, and the lab guarantee it will be here in 3 days they sent it to the wrong address was told this 4 times already still haven't received my mom's glasses. I went to Mendel Optical Insight in Rye Brook recently. I had my own frames. I was examined by female Opthomologist. She was wonderful. Their lenses are far superior than what I was getting. I had difficulty seeing my computer with my old lenses. Now, miracle of miracles...I can see clearly now. I highly recommend them. The one thing that caught me off guard is that they aren't great in providing computer generated receipts or communicating on the computer well. Nonetheless, that is a minor issue when I got such quality care. Highly recommend them. read more

One time they lost my prescription, told me they cant give me new lenses with that lost prescription, instead of asking me or offering a exam for new prescription they used my contacts prescription and messed up my vision. Dont know why I held on to the glasses I guess because it was my only option but I'm never going back there. went to a new place and the contact lens prescription is completely different. read more

Used to be my most favorite optical shop until they hired new employees. The young employee is unprofessional and rude. She messed up several orders of contact lenses. This used to be unthinkable. Also, in the old days doctor Mendel was kind and flexible for a walk-in eye exam. Nowadays, the young employee wants to push your appointment to next month, when the doctor is sitting checking iPhones. The reason why I am giving a 1 star is due to the old employees who are still very kind. But I am switching my optical shops now. This shop is ruined by the rude young new hires. read more

I went to this store in order to purchase eye glasses. A few red flags right off the bat, you are not able to pick up glasses to try on at your lesiure, all glasses are behind the counter, and you need to individually ask to see a pair in order to try them on. The staff is also not very friendly which was upsetting, considering how expensive their lenses and frames are. Although they took my insurance, I was guaranteed to receive glasses within 7-10 business days of the order, and although I placed order before the new year, I have yet to receive my glasses. When I called and asked to speak with the manager, she was extremely disrespectful, rude, and declined to refund the shipping charge, despite failing to deliver on their promise of 7-10 business days. I will definitely not be shopping here again, and would caution others who rely on glasses to shop at this store. read more

This place used to be great: friendly service, good quality, but not any more. I've been coming here for over 15 years. They used to give me a discount without even asking; now I have to practically beg for one. But the worst part is the optician, who has become very rude. I have a very bad astigmatism, so when I ordered prescription sunglasses, they told me I should come back when they were made up to have the optician check them. (I live in the city now, and would have preferred them shipped to me). Anyway, when I can back to pick them up Mike, their optician, couldn't be bothered. He just turns to me and says "are they falling off your face? Can you see ok? Then they're fine." If I wanted to be patronized and treated like a bother, I would have gone somewhere else. My first time here was horrible. I live in Port Chester, NY and decided to come here because it was close to me. Plus, I figured with the great reviews, I was going to have a better time. Their selection is terrible and their store is too small. The lady was incredibly rude and dismissive. She also gave the wrong information by saying that they can just use the lenses I have now and use that subscription. She also told another person to take care of me because she didn't feel like waiting for me to choose several frames. Then a man shows up asking me what I'm doing. I've been coming to Mendel for over 30 years. I started with them in White Plains and after a bad experience with one of the office staff there I came to Rye Ridge. Hal Mendel runs this one and he's still the kind, gentle soul I remember from when I was 10. The staff is very friendly and helpful and they knew both my insurance plans inside and out and which to use for contacts and which for glasses. This place gets super busy on the weekends, so when I go, I go during the week when there's less people and the staff can actually take the time to work with you. I will definitely continue to come here. It's a family business and not some chain place (which I hate), so that also makes me feel good that I'm shopping local and not a big box store. read more

My wife and I have been using their services for years. We both are very near sighted. When the last prescription was ready, I found that the progressive lenses had a fuzzy area between reading and distance. Mike, the optician said that it was normal for strong prescriptions. I brought them in to my eye doctor who could not evaluate it. Back at Mendel...nothing to do. A year goes by and we join Costco. Get a script that increases reading strength, new glasses at Costco, and no fuzziness at half the price and time. Anyone else with blurry progressives? read more
