Hoo boy! Some nasty reviews here. Yikes. I'm sitting in the parking lot of West Lafayette Menards writing this. I had such a good experience I wanted to share immediately. It's 11:35 am Saturday, Jan 21, 2023. For all those people who had trouble in the past, it's safe to come back. Or try again. I had a return and was met at the counter with a smile and a "no problem!" even though the error on the custom paint was my own. I got what I needed and the check out staff were lovely and a random staff member walked by and offered to take my empty cart. Store is fully stocked and fully staffed...and apparently fully trained. Either that or they only hire nice people. Way to go Menards HR! And to all the Menard's crew that helped me today, thank you!! read more

I just moved to the area and had hoped to shop here as it's most conveniently located for me; however, they do not provide a military discount. Both Lowes and Home Depot offer military discounts. I had hoped a local business would be as interested in supporting their local community. Additionally, employees that I encountered during my experience here were less than friendly or helpful. read more

Should I go back? Should you bother? They take orders at the yard desk in the back of the store, then you walk to the front to pay. Get your paid receipt and get in your vehicle to drive to the storage yard to check in to pickup items. Next you drive through the yard to find an empty 4 by 18 foot spot with no product! No help in sight. So it is drive back to the front of the store for a refund! Day two go to the other side of town to repeat the above at the south Menards store. Two different items although related but different. Talk about a store that needs an inventory system. Also again no one to help in the yard at this facility till you get to the yard gate. No apology, just the way they work I guess. read more

The worst. Employees are not helpful. They charge a fee for pickup when all the other stores in town do not. We are in the middle of a pandemic, and I don't want to wander around your store trying to find items on my own. read more

Being targeted, discriminated, controlled sucks! That's what this menards does. I'm not sorry about my medical concern. I'm not sorry I can't wear a mask. But it is very unfortunate that Menards doesn't want my business... again. I was kicked out because I wouldn't wear a mask due to medical condition. They literally said they refuse to serve Me. If I could give this store zero stars, I would. The only redeeming factor is the man named Chuck that works in the lighting department, the first person I dealt with from this store. I called on a Tuesday to ask about a pair of discontinued lamps that this store had in stock (I live 2 hours away and my local store no longer had them) and Chuck found them for me and set thing up for them to be sent to me via FedEx. They came that Friday and arrived broken. I was sorely disappointed because they were to be Christmas gifts for my best friend, who was in the hospital at that time. I contacted the store and spoke with Cody up at the service desk, and one of the managers, Dave, just happened to be up there. It was relayed to me that it was my responsibility to contact FedEx and start a claim. After speaking with 2 FedEx customer service reps about what happened, they both told me that it was the stores' responsibility to file the claim since they were the shipper. Called the store again - got argued with by management about this, so I emailed the corporate office. I got a response almost immediately, telling me that I should be expecting a call from the store manager and they gave me his direct dial number. The following Tuesday, I still had not heard anything, so I called and asked to speak with the store manager. He was a bit in the rude side, and spoke to me as if I were a stupid child who could not possibly understand him, again insisting it was MY responsibility to start the FedEx claim. Another email fired off to the home office, this one not as pleasant (but I refrained from being downright nasty), and the next day he called to tell me that they were filing the claim the next day, which was Thursday. Meanwhile, I was asking to exchange them, at my own expense in gas money, since they still had 3 in stock, and was repeatedly told no. The following Wednesday I called the store manger back to ask if he had heard anything and he told me he had not. So I took it upon myself to contact FedEx again since I had a case number, and actually got to speak with the agent handling the claim. He said the claim had been approved and the check sent that morning, that Menard's should be receiving it in 2-3 business days. December 23 I called Larry Thompson (the store manager) back and spoke with him. He claimed to have called FedEx himself and left "2 or 3" messages but had not heard anything. I informed him of the convo I'd had with the case manager and asked once again if I could drive down there and exchange the broken lamps for ones that were not, and was told no again. The day after Christmas, Cody from the front end called to tell me that they had gotten the check from FedEx and had refunded the card I used for the purchase. I asked AGAIN if I could come and exchange the lamps, and he informed me that the 3 they had had on hand were sold! First of all, those working in retail or any other customer-oriented service position KNOW you don't ever tell a paying customer that they are in the wrong, or that fixing something you are responsible for is their job. You don't talk down to customers as if they are 2 and cannot understand you (because chances are pretty good they are actually smarter than you). And all the while, the store manager KNEW I wanted replacement, un-broken lamps and did not put a pair aside for me. I am glad they refunded my money, but this is, hands down, the most piss-poor customer service I have ever experienced in my life. That's pretty damned bad coming from someone that used to work for Walmart! Thanks to this experience, I will never set foot in a Menard's store ever again. read more

I love any hardware store, but I especially love Menards. The people who work there have great product knowledge. Senior people in all departments are really good. Somehow Menards retains employees for years and they just keep getting better. I especially like their lumber, door assortment, cabinets (Shrocks are often on sale), plumbing. they have a great long aisle of toilets which shows all the features and water savings ratings of each. Their fastener (screws, nails, etc.) selection is first rate plus. They have the best assortment and price on the newish CFL lights and a display which allows you to see how they will look. They are the first to begin carrying LED lights, and also have wind turbines and solar panels for sale! Their power and hand tool selection is very good and they carry a full range of price and quality in each individual tool. I like their garden shop whether for playground equipment, mulch, sand, paving blocks, or vegetable seedlings. Yeah Menards! I love how Menards is taking great precaution in the PANDEMIC we are in!!!! If you can't wear your mask right, then don't go out.

God forbid you order anything from this location and have to pick it up in the back. Apparently they only employ the most useless individuals they can find. This is the second time we were told that an order was ready to be picked up only to find that the idiots working the delivery/loading area have either broken, misplaced, or simply not unloaded the order to be picked up. Do not expect any sort of service here. read more

Most of the employees act like they're doing you a favor if they help you find anything, most of them don't know where anything is. Careful when you buy things there, some of the items, especially food and some cleaners have been sitting there past the expiration dates. The paint department ignores customers, better off going to Home Depot or Lowe's or anyplace else that sells paint. read more

This Menards should be the standard for all home improvements stores. The employees at this Menards provide wonderful customer service and are very knowledgeable in their products. I can tell that the remodel that the store is undergoing will provide the customers of the West Lafayette Menards with a more well rounded and enjoyable experience. read more

Can't return something at the garden center even though I bought it there, so I walk to the other side of the store. Stand in a line about 12 people long with a single cashier (seriously, call for some help). Realize that once it is my turn, I absolutely need a receipt even though I am just exchanging and don't want cash back. Need a receipt? Get out of line and get on a computer that finds your receipt. Can their computers look them up? That's crazy talk! So rather than finding my receipt and waiting in line AGAIN, I walked out and don't plan on going back. Easiest way for Lowe's to win back my loyalty even though it's a 15 minute drive instead of 3 minutes. Get your return policy together, Menards. It's stupid. read more

Everytime I go in I find what I need quickly and easily and if I need a good opion the employees are always there to help.

I'm not going to spend much time on this review but I'll give some helpful tips. Employee helpfulness - If you know what you need and it's a simple item, you're in luck. Don't expect any sound advice from anyone here. Nothing against young kids in college but you probably shouldn't take advice from a 19 year old part time college kid on how to complete home projects...at least a home you would like to live in. Lumber - without a doubt, hands down, the worst place to purchase your plumber. Roughly 1 out 8 boards is actually usable and straight. Spend the extra $0.20 a board and buy it down the road, you'll be glad you did. Special Orders - Forget it! Go somewhere else, they'll screw it up for sure. I have went to menards for decades, never again. We bought counter tops with under mounted sink. We got a installer from their list. When product came in and was installed and the plumbing done, the last piece of counter did not match by color or size. I called menards they said bring it back, not that easy. We went through the process of their complaint system. The said Midwest manufacturing is responsible not them. Months later they flew someone from Wisconsin to Indiana, for him to say yes you are right this is the wrong piece. It did no good they are still taking no responsibility and they are owned by menards. They spend more money sending him down here than I was asking for. They are rude and have horrible customer service. Think twice before going there. I use to love menards. read more
