Somehow Menards retains employees for years and they just keep getting better. I especially like their lumber, door assortment, cabinets (Shrocks are often on sale), plumbing. they have a great long aisle of toilets which shows all the features and water savings ratings of each. Their fastener (screws, nails, etc.) selection is first rate plus. They have the best assortment and price on the newish CFL lights and a display which allows you to see how they will look. They are the first to begin carrying LED lights, and also have wind turbines and solar panels for sale! Their power and hand tool selection is very good and they carry a full range of price and quality in each individual tool. I like their garden shop whether for playground equipment, mulch, sand, paving blocks, or vegetable seedlings. Yeah Menards! My favorite hardware stores in Lafayette and West Lafayette, Indiana.

It's 11:35 am Saturday, Jan 21, 2023. For all those people who had trouble in the past, it's safe to come back. Or try again. I had a return and was met at the counter with a smile and a "no problem!" even though the error on the custom paint was my own. I got what I needed and the check out staff were lovely and a random staff member walked by and offered to take my empty cart. Store is fully stocked and fully staffed...and apparently fully trained. Either that or they only hire nice people. Way to go Menards HR! And to all the Menard's crew that helped me today, thank you!!

They have a large…read morenumber of people who have been there for years which tells you they must be a pretty good outfit to work for. BUT these employees have a LOT of product knowledge and that is what makes the difference for me between Menards and the other giant hardware stores. They actually KNOW what the stuff they sell does and how to install it, what other options might be out there and so on. Their construction department is helpful and can arrange deliver of big loads at a reasonable price. I really like the paint, plumbing, hardware, flooring and electric folks. In hardware they can make keys for about a buck apiece, and they can re-key locks. Very helpful. They have a great selection of pre-built cabinets, and can help you design out a kitchen in a jiffy and get it ordered. I like the Schrock cabinets for the best combination of quality and price. Watch for the sales and you can save a lot. I like it that Menards has been so out-front with CFL light bulbs, low watt flourescent fixtures and the newer LED light bulb alternatives. They have a great display that lets you see the difference in color temperature and brightmess between all of the CFL bulbs. Nice! Menards has an excellent setup for rebate coupons. They are all located near the exit and you just look on the bottom of your receipt and pick the coupons you need off the display. All the stores have pretty much the same stuff. Only Menards has the great people.

Managers appear harried and seem to be constantly putting out fires. Pricing can be iffy - no tags, or incorrect tags. In talking with a front-wnd supervisor, incorrect tags are fairly common. I still wander in almost weekly looking for some odd hardware item or getting dog food. Plus, they have good popcorn available for shoppers.

Hi folks! *wave* It's very handy to be fixing up an old house and have a hardware store so close. We've bought paint, electrical stuff, plumbing stuff, gardening stuff, and more from them. They have a little bit of everything, although if you want specific brands, or if they don't carry a random specific widget you need, you'll have to go into town. For example, if you want any lumber, they don't have it, which is pretty frustrating since going into town for lumber requires renting a truck, but if they sold it, we could just walk it home. My one kvetch is their hours. Specifically, they don't seem to keep to them. They're guaranteed to be closed on holidays and during the Apple Popcorn Festival (generally, the festival plus a few days before and after). However, sometimes they close on a random day that isn't a holiday, so we end up having to go into town anyway. They also tend to be a little more expensive than some of the big box hardware stores, but we look at that as paying for convenience.
