I rarely come to this Menards, as it's a little further from my home. I came here as I was in the area and they offered a few things that the Oakdale and WSP locations didn't have at that time. This location was setup the complete opposite of the Oakdale location, but very easy to find things. The worst customer experience ever. Rude and unprofessional, rejected my return because: " I am a gm, I can reject if I want to" horrible! The return was accepted with no questions at other location. GM Dylan should not run the store. And other employees looked annoyed and were extremely disrespectful. This Menards is on my way home from work. Whoever stocks the Zero Sugar A and W rootbeer and Zero Sugar Canada Dry Ginger Ale, you do a great job. The Menards in Apple Valley seems to always be out. Even at regular price of $3.99 for 6 bottles, it's a much better deal than most grocery stores. Here it's regularly stocked. There was an 11% rebate going on , so I'll get a small check. I purchased a paint match at this location. It took 45 minutes for them to finish my paint. I got the paint home and it was so far off. I called them they said they had accidently chosen a gallon vs a 5 gallon bucket. The management refused to discount the paint. I could spend another hour in the car that day returning it, so I just ended up using it. They don't stand behind their mistakes. I went to corporate and they said they were sorry about their mistake but wouldn't do anything about it. Beware of their paint department and poor quality and customer service!!!!! I also went to the cabinet department to have some questions answered. The service was subpar. I could have answered them better by looking at their website. read more

Today's visit was serious. I have acted as my own General Contractor in renovating 4 homes in four states: roofs, waterproofing, foundation mold, bank stabilization, gutting an entire first floor spending a full year putting in wood floors new electrical plumbing new kitchen, new showers, gutting bathrooms, redoing rotten sills studs in 3 garages, fought termites in Virginia, new heating cooling systems, new more efficient duct work, new hand dug 8 ft deep French drains, sewage ejection systems , etc etc etc. My husband HATES doing this. I am his " honey-do". Had read yelp reviews for Home Depot, Lowes, Mennards at multiple locations -- too generalized in comments, too brief, or very negative. So I visited this Mennards and the Lowes down the Road. I have used Mennards off 394 in Golden Valley and on University Ave in Minneapolis for many years. It is hit or miss depending on the departments in both those locations leaving me Luke warm. Today's visit on Robert Street St Paul was SURPRISING, unexpected. Here were my tech needs: (1) Have to insulate a Florida room ( glass walls double pane w big screen panels) use it as a closet year round w small heater. (2) kept a magnificent 1980's Anderson casement window solid oak 100% when installing James Hardie siding, want to sell it on Craig's list what= a reasonable sale price? (3) have a huge roll of1/2-3/4 inch thick soft malleable styrofoam insulation used by contractor w Duro-Lock waterproofing matls in old house. Entire roll unused how much she I sell it for? A young woman cams over and REALLY helped me. We looked at a new comparable window in their display discussed pricing then went to the insulation Dept. She immediately paged someone Fr that dept who came and REALLY answered all my questions and recommended these great 4X8 ft 3/4 inch thick styrofoam hard panels sided on side w foil on sale $1 off orig price now about $9.50 a sheet He suggested I go to a waterproofing supply house. Never once did they hesitate knowing I was asking for Craig's list selling info. They treated me with great respect, were not belittling and listened sincerely . I then went down the road to Lowes, went to the " Professionals" desk ( zero salespeople around). Now here I was treated by an older gentleman like the " little lady", he was 2/3 interested in helping me , pointed to where I could find their 3/4 styrofoam, never budged from behind that desk, saleswoman he was chatting with made no effort to show me either, and when I returned asked him whether they match prices, he immediately cut me off, straightened up, and said," oh NO WE stopped doing that!" He said it quite gruffly. If I had been a Caucasian male ....???? Then when I described my vintage Anderson window I was hoping to sell, he again cut me off, stood straight again (Had been conversing with me hunched over leaning on the counter) and said," WE DON'T do THAT!" Horrible customer service. Are these people even trained?? Employees are rude and almost insulting when you ask them a question. Looking for wood? Don't come to Menards, worst wood selection, cuts are poor you'll spend an hour digging through the wood pile just to find one good piece. If I could give a no star rating, I would do it. We bought mulch from the Maplewood store, but the mulch we picked up was mislabeled and not the mulch we actually paid for at the store. We went to return the mulch to this store because they had the mulch we needed and we were subjected to the rudest woman at the customer returns. Let me start that the customer service agent was rude before we even started the transaction. First, she told us that the mulch could be returned to the yard and not her desk, as if this was common knowledge. I can't express her complete disdain for us and accused us of the blunder with the mulch switch to which my husband replied this was what was under your skew number and bay at Maplewood. The yard agent should have caught the mistake but approved us. The manager of the store further told us they weren't going to take the hit so we have to reload 16 bags of mulch to take back to another store to come back to this store and get the correct mulch. I can't express the extent of my anger over this incident with the West Saint Paul staff and manager of the store. They are truly the worse. read more

Now that they've resolved the employment issue, I can shop here again. I like Menards because it's so weird. They have a crazy mix of things, some of which I wasn't expecting to need. We just bought patio furniture here, and are quite happy with it. If you're seeking to buy patio furniture, you'll have to hunt down an employee to help you. We made three trips to the store before we were able to find help with the set we'd decided to buy on the first trip. One gets tired of waiting around. The checkout situation is a little weird in that the "cashier" doesn't really do much beyond moving the items down the line. If you're paying by card, you handle that yourself with the machine by the bags at the end of the line. Even if you're paying cash, you take the receipt from the machine, rather than the "cashier" handing it to you. The prices here are fair and comparable to a lot of places. We had the odd experience, when we were looking for a chest freezer, of finding one filled with sausages. We were interested in buying that particular freezer until we saw this. We wanted to see the dimensions, etc. and finding it filled to the brim with sausages really threw us off and we still talk about it to this day. read more

They charged me $80 delivery fee then because they sent an already injured delivery man they charged me a another $20. It was pitiful to watch him struggle to put the order in the garage instead of what they expected which was apparently to drop it in the road and leave. I am pregnant and unable to lift heavy materials otherwise I would have assisted. I will not order materials from this company again due to the maltreatment of its employees and customers. This morning I came to pick up 42 boxes of flooring, they gave it to someone else so I had to wait until they return them. 7 hours later I get a call to pick up and when I get here they won't let me pick up because it's under my customers name? We frequent this menards when we're in this 'hood running errands on Robert St. It has most of the stuff we look for, and the folks have always been helpful, if sometimes hard to find. We did some major housework over the years & have dealt with lumber, outdoors, lighting-electrical, plumbing, glass block, paint, doors, garden. Never have had any problems returning stuff, even after quite some time. We have not gotten anything from the frozen sections or foods or appliances. read more

Love this store. We're from New England, so first home purchase around here and we're a mile from this store, thus we tried it out. Long story short, I've spent several thousand dollars here for remodeling stuff. Great prices. Much cheaper than the other two big stores. The staff are usually helpful, especially day shift hours. I've gotten a few b.s. answers to questions in plumbing in the evening, not during the day though. Great help, kind and knowledgeable... We don't have these stores back east so I'd never heard of them before. Awesome find, and my go to resource. read more

I go to Menards all over the Twin cities and this is my favorite. No 2nd level to slow you down yet seem to still have everything. Carts are always stocked and loaded in isles thanks to the excellent courtesy team. Which is actually saying a lot cause other Menards aren't really on top of it. read more

I wanted to share a great experience I had at Menards. I selected a 50 gallon Richmond water heater and paid to have it delivered. The water heater was delivered the next day and I signed the release for the water heater saying there was no damage. I left the water heater in the box so it would be easier to carry down the stairs and received an unpleasant surprise when we opened it. The water heater had a huge 6 inch wide dent that was about an inch deep. I felt like an idiot because I should have opened the box and checked it before the delivery driver left. I called Menards and I sent them a picture of the damage. I really thought because I signed the delivery that I would be stuck with the damaged water heater. However, Heather, Kyle, and Jesse all agreed that the damage shown in the picture was very serious and may have actually damaged the internal tank. The next day a new water heater was shipped over to our house and the dented one was removed. Jesse at Menards actually opened this unit, before prepping it for delivery, to make sure it was in good shape and we also found it be perfect after removing the packaging. The water heater is now installed and working great. The customer service experience we received was great and will also make sure to shop at this location. read more

We ordered Medallion kitchen cabinets from Menards. Four mistakes thus far. Each mistake takes a month to rectify. Costs me, the customer money in extra fees to the cabinet installer every time plus the association fees I am incurring every month for a place I can't live in yet. Lots of words from Menards with no money returned to us. Menards and Medallion have made the mistakes but we the customer pay the price. We hear we are sorry, but that is no longer acceptable nor does it pay the extra money we have had to pay about because of their mistakes. read more

While they publish an elaborate guarantee brochure for their treated lumber, don't be mislead. My experience is that Menards treated, ground contact rated lumber will fail far quicker than you are led to believe. I've had posts fail at year 11, year 10 and now year 7 of their installed date. Menard's Guest Complaint dept. took three weeks to acknowledge receipt of my complaint and now, after six weeks, they have failed to re-contact me with any resolution. They have no phone number to call and assign no tracking number. I have dealt with Menards less and less over the years on a commercial basis and advise you to trust this company only for nails and low value items. read more

I went to Home Depot and Lowes to get the kit for stacking my washer and dryer. Not in stock at Lowes and $29.99. Special order at Home Depot and I was told no one stocks them. Menards had it in stock for $20.99. I promised myself that, if I found it at Menards, I would write a positive comment about Menards. read more

A+ experience in the Hardware Dept here. We had a one-of-a-kind problem and this team really stepped up to help. We had purchased a condo in St Paul and the previous owners left a nice set of (mostly) assembled steel shelves (5 shelf) in the utility room for us -- two of the units were completely assembled but the other had only 3 shelves finished with the remaining steel pieces for the final 2 shelves. Problem was that the small metal couplers that allow you to add new outer poles to extend the height were missing. These are pesky little things that no store carries separately. We went to Menard's because they carry these shelves, but we had to admit that we had not purchased the shelves there, that we didn't know where they had been purchased. This didn't matter -- we had 4 different employees helping us solve this. In the end, the manager Mike (and worker Damon, with help from Lisa and another Mike) contacted the manufacturer of the shelving units and the company Edsal Shelving is SENDING US THE NEEDED COUPLERS FREE OF CHARGE!! That's A+ customer service from our local Menard's!! read more
