The female and male workers at the paint and stain station in the back of the store were terrible at helping us get what we need. I came in simply asking for a certain color of stain and informed them that it was for my mom and they proceeded to tell me I was wrong and could not buy the stain I came in for because I "didn't need one". Basically they told me my mom was wrong and so was I and I don't need a stain. I do not care what the opinions of the Menards workers are, for I simply came in with something on my list and left empty handed. I purchased two tool boxes on line. They shipped them very quickly and they arrived in two days. The only problem is that they shipped it to the wrong address. Completely on the other side of town, wrong number, wrong street, wrong zip code. I called customer service and guess what. it has to be on e-mail. Days later they sent me a response. i was charged the delivery and processing fee of $35.00 because they said it was my mistake. They told me i had only entered the city with no address. I guess their system picked a random address to ship it to. Its their software. $35.00 is cheap for a good lesson. Never buy from them again! read more

UPDATE: To date, I still have not heard back from corporate about my ordeal. I will continue to pursue it until I have satisfactory resolution to my situation. Today I went into the garden center for two ferns and three flower arrangements and I was denied my sale because my mask was beneath my mouth. I was maintaining 6 feet from everyone, talked to no one and avoided people like the plague because I can't breathe with the mask on especially in the heat. I understand there is policy, however it is not a law to wear a mask and I was no where near anyone or endangering anyone's life. The girl at the outdoor register had already rung my order up and all I had to do is hand over the money and she had another employee ask management if they refuse sales to anyone not wearing a mask. She rung me up and then said sorry, no sale. The other employee made it a point to be really loud on the phone so I could hear him, too. I don't appreciate that intimidation. To date, we have spent almost $15,000.00 this year on our contractor card alone and to be treated like this over a non law when I was not near one person is uncalled for. Perhaps it's because I'm Mexican?? We have spent almost $50,000 on behalf of our business in the last 3 years at Menards and I feel that this was a non issue when my items were rung up and almost paid for. I am leaving a review online for google, yelp, my Facebook page and any other review outlets to let everyone know that after I called and spoke to the manager Brian Jackowitz and not getting a satisfactory resolution, that they might want to consider Home Depot or Lowe's like we have been considering. Thank the Illinois governor for that! We already spent almost $4,000 at Home Depot this year so far and it looks like they will continue to get our business aft. We're a first time home buyer and were excited to purchase a lawn mower. The Menard staff was utterly useless in terms of making recommendations and when we did find one we liked, they didn't have it in stock. They did, however, say that we can get the last floor model. Yes, the floor model that has been on display forever, collecting dust, and who knows what. When we asked if there would be a discount associated with getting an open box model, the sales associate was quite rude in saying no. Do not expect assistance with any problem from Menards beyond an Installed Customer Complaint form (yes, a paper form!). I bought a $450 shower door that was not even close to the advertised look. While browsing online at menards.com I came across some clear tubing I needed. Bolingbrook location had 0 in stock and Naperville location on Fort Hill had 2. I called and confirmed and I was on my way. I went to the store and the employee said we had none and we can check which locations would have it. He says we have two in stock but can't find it. I said I called in and made sure and everything and I wasted my 30 minute drive one way going there. I was pretty upset and then I ask for a female hose end barb fitting which is normal plumbing stuff someone in the plumbing department would know I will not be going in here in the future. Week day shopping and I needed three rolls of insulation and I needed to order it at their service center. 15 min waiting for an attendant to show up. 3 min to take my order, 3 minutes to pay, 20 minutes to pick up my order after I was told it would be ready in 5 minutes. I was a little frustrated that they didn't have the exact lag bolts and metal washers that matched my kids bunk bed but they had the next closest thing and it still worked great! The lady there literally spent 20 minutes with me until I found the right thing. I'll never go to Home Depot again. People there generally don't give a shit and it's horribly confusing. So the paint outside our place was chipping and the wife sent me to menards to get paint to touch it up. This mega-lo mart had a helpful paint representative, so I didn't have any complaints. The service stinks. They treat people like morons in some depts. Older lady in paint is awesome,but young one with glasses is disrespectful and lacks knowledge. In general, big box stores have very good customer service but we just experienced the opposite at the Menard's store in Naperville. The manufacturer of an appliance that we purchased at Menard's in Naperville agreed to give us a full refund for a product that was out of warranty because the product was so poorly designed that it never worked (and couldn't work) properly and it also failed completely. It's a long story but a perfectly clear arrangement was made between us and the manufacturer so that I would receive a full refund when I returned the item to Menard's. The manufacturer called me the day before and told me to see Amber at the Naperville store, who is apparently a manager. The paperwork was all complete and the approval was made for the refund. Amber and another supervisor will filled in on all the details and authorized to give us a full refund. I loaded the appliance into our SUV and my wife took it to Menard's in Naperville the next day because she would be driving by the store anyway. It's heavy and dangerous because one part is cylindrical an weights over 100 pounds so it could roll around in an emergency stop. My wife found Amber, who then refused to give us the refund as agreed upon by the manufacturer, us, and the store the previous day. I then called Amber and, as I began explaining the situation, she kept cutting me off and not letting me speak. When I tried to get a word in, she said, "I don't like to be talked to like that and she kept on talking over me, not allowing me to say a word. Then she put me on hold. (I had absolutely nothing against Amber at all! I was not raising my voice but I did get frustrated when she kept talking over me. However, even then I didn't raise my voice. In fact, I purposely talked softly, hoping that Amber would stop claiming that she didn't like the volume or tone of my voice but that didn't good. She still kept talking over me and was unprofessional and rude. She finally agreed to issue the full refund but made it sound like she was doing us a huge favor when this was an agreement between us and the manufacturer. It was costing Menard's nothing. After being treated by Amber in that manner, we will no longer shop at Menard's. until now, we had shopped at Menard's almost every week. We were loyal customers. No more! The treatement we received was insulting, aggravating, and totally uncalled for. read more

Menards has great values. In a lot of respects they have a larger selection than the other big hardware stores. You can find the real cheap tools if you're looking for something on a budget, but they also have good quality tools like Bosch. They have a better selection of plywood and lumber also. When I'm looking for something (tools, hardware, materials, etc.), I typically check Menards first and then the other stores. This particular store has decent service, but I haven't found it to be outstanding. read more

I've always had an amazing experience when coming to this location. I bought my Mom a chandelier for Mothers Day and a couple of the crystals broke. When we came in to see if we could order more they gave us the few extra ones they had. They always have great pricing and have ample help throughout the store. Had a very disappointing experience at this establishment this evening. We came for an estimate for our kitchen cabinets and counter tops. Waited for about 15 minutes standing right in front of their salesperson who was busy with another couple, nobody else came up to us or that very sales person said "hello" or any other word. Then when he finally got up and walked by us I told him we neeed an estimate to which he replied with an attitude that he will be with us when done with another couple. we waited for another 5 minutes and left. Do not get anything delivered from Menards. They contract the service out and do not stand behind the people they hire. Ordered a replacement washer dryer for delivery noting it was for a second floor condo and in a closet. First day they were going to send one guy by himself....no way that works out. Second day they send two guys who do not strap in the new unit and drop parking lot twice. Then proceed to bang it up the stairs after removing from packaging. Do not turn off water before trying to remove old one and flood our floors and scrape up laminate with old unit removal. Broke light in hallway and basically threw new unit back in truck when rejected. No washer dryer and $3000 plus in floor damages and they simply said sorry for your experience. never doing business with them again and highly suggest the same. read more

As first time homeowners we have made many purchases at this Menard's location. We always get great customer service and 80% of the time we can walk right up to a register to complete our purchase with no wait time. Every department we have been in has had someone helpful and friendly. Occasionally we have had to wait in the plumbing department or electrical for some assistance, but that is to be expected at busy times. Our best experience is with Scott G in the Appliances and Cabinets section. He helped us with ordering cabinets for our remodel. He was always prompt, polite, and helpful to our situation. He helped us after our items came in when we had to order some extra finishing pieces and was able to expedite the order. We also changed our mind on a custom cabinet, and were able to return it, less restocking, with no problems. It was very hassle free. We were notified of our estimated delivery windows, and the online tracking system was very helpful with the automated emails. We have easily spent over $12,000 on our kitchen alone at this Menard's and their return policies and friendly staff have made it a worthwhile investment. When we had a few minor imperfections in our cabinets, they contacted the manufacturer right away and we were easily able to get the situation remedied. After hearing horror stories, it feels great to post about a very positive experience. Based on our fantastic experience, we would definitely recommend Menard's over any other big box for ordering cabinetry. It's a big investment in your home and you want helpful staff who will help you through out the whole process, without being pushy. read more

A bizarre, sprawling store that I assumed was very Home Depot-esque but had a tinge of Walmart - they have all the typical hardware store stuff, but then also groceries, candies, home necessities like paper towels, a pet aisle... it was strange. Their prices are OK but for selection I prefer Lowes or Home Depot. The parking lot was an actual jungle on a Saturday morning. I had a very bad experience at the Naperville store. The floor staff there is neither courteous, nor helpful. I got quite a run-around trying to locate simple things like glue and shelf brackets. I had to ask for help from three different people before I got what I needed. They put advertising stickers on the floor (the stickers are the size of posters) and they are easy to slip on. I walk with a cane- and the staff sent me around the store three times before I found what I could use. (And it is a BIG store!) When I got to the check-out, I told the checker how much it hurt to walk all the distance- she told me to be thankful that I still had my legs, and that I wasn't paralyzed. She also said that "next time I should use a cart" . Next time I will go to a more courteous (and smaller) store. I don't mind paying more for the privilege of not being abused. read more

Had a special order, got an email that it was in. I called to verify because it was earlier than the orginal date and I was told it was in. I take a day off of work get a buddy to come with in his truck and have my 15 month old baby with me. I also lined up workers to install the item, only to find out that they didn't have the item. That isn't the part that upsets me most because mistakes happen, it's everything that transpired. I was met as soon as we drove in the yard and the employee said he was going to look for the item. I stood there waiting for over 30 mins and never heard anything from anyone. I called the store from my cell and told the manager we had bee waiting there over 30+ minutes. At about the 45 minute mark someone came out to tell me they don't have the item, they don't know where it is or when it will be there. The manager came and said the same thing. The mangager with a bit of an attitude said sorry I'll give you 10% off. I said what about delievery he said ok Ill give you free delivery. I said 10 off and free delivery and he responds with an even bigger attitude" Oh no I'm not doing that, it's one or the other". I said you know what forget it. Just give me money back(1500.00) He said fine let's go in the store. I said I'm not going to wake my sleeping baby sitting next to us in the car. He said "well I can't bring a register out here" (I know people who have canceled orders over the phone bought by credit card,I also spoke with a friend who is a manager at a different Menards who said he could have taken the paper work in processed and came back out) Not this guy.. I told him I would have to come back. I called the store later that evening and spoke with the millwork dept to find out what happened. The guy explained it to me as best he could said they made a huge mistake and was very sorry. The millwork dept was great. I didn't want any more problems so I called ahead the next day to talk to the manager about getting my refund. He yelled "I told you I'd deliever it" I said " You also said you would give me a refund" He sheepishly responded "well, yeah, I did" he said again with attitude " if you read your contract you would have known your delivery date wasn't for another week" I responded I know the orginal date , You contacted me and told me it was there, I called to confirm and was still told it was there. He said " What you don't want it now?" I went into a 2 minute speech on how I didn't think he or his company deserved my money. I explained how we have been redoing our house and spent over 5k in the last 2 months at Menards. He response was fine, come get your refund. The millwork guys were great, the general manager is a joke. He never took responsibility and seemed to have an attitude that I inconvenienced him. If McDonalds messes up a hamburger they apologize and try to make the situation right. Spend 1500 at Mendards and they could care less. read more

Menards is definitely not for everyone. From my experience, Menards has a better selection of building, construction materials and supplies than Home Depot or Lowes. Their prices are generally lower too. However, if you're not an experienced DIYer and need assistance and advice, this is probably not the store for you. At Home Depot there are employees walking the aisles who are usually very knowledgeable and helpful. Not so much at Menards. I usually don't need much help, so Menards is always my first chose for any home project for materials. read more

This is the location closest to me so I go here all the time. First off they're more than just a hardware store. They have groceries as well. Probably not he best stuff in that regards, but they have stuff anyway. Prices are definitely cheaper here. For example I got hacksaw blades here for around $2.50 while at Home Depot, they were close to $4. Plus, Menards has a little bit more selection of stuff (for example the hacksaws and blades). I've never payed close attention to their lumber and wood (If they even have it) but I would say try Home Depot for that. While there aren't many associates on the sales floor, there seems to be ample cashiers. When I was there recently, they had three lanes open and opened up two more even though lines weren't that long. A lot of these reviews are just of one particular instance so do t get fooled by the one stars. In conclusion, lower prices, more selection, and ample cashiers. Don't forget the rebates! read more

We walked in to buy a dishwasher. I applied for a store card, was approved and headed to the dishwasher aisle. We were helped out by a friendly associate named Elise. She walked us through the options we had and looked up anything she didn't know. Honest vs bs wins. Too bad they're not commission based. She worked for it. We also got a water softener but that girl didn't know much about it. I do appreciate their honesty instead of just feeding me lines like other stores do. Went in for artificial grass but it is out of season. Me and my mom kept looking around for something similar and there were two employees talking on their iPhones avoiding eye contact with us. Finally another guy came out carrying all these boxes etc. We felt bad asking David for help because he was clearly busy but we had been waiting for help for awhile! David put down everything he was doing and helped us find something similar to artificial grass. He was extremely kind and helpful! I have visited this store many times for a variety of needs. I go, get what I need and leave. However, on a few occassions I needed some assistance and both times I felt like I was bothering the sales associates. I will tell you about one of them that stays in my mind. I was in the wood trim dept. getting replacement side boards for my kitchen floor after putting in new vinyl tile squares. I see the sales associate and motion to him that I need help. He looks noticably annoyed, before I even tell him what kind of help I need. I ask him if I can get the side boards mitered to fit the corners. He very rudely tells me that they don't do that there. O.K. fine. I didn't know. That's why I asked. I like Menards, but it is not out-of-the way for me to just go to Home Depot, where the sales associates are noticably friendly and willing to help. That's it! We will never shop at Menard's in Naperville again or any Menard's for that matter. This is the second bad experience we've had and, in both cases, the manager was extremely rude. The first time was when we bought a water softener that simply didn't work. Menard's said I had to contact the manufacturer which was O.K. The manufacturer agreed to give a full refund and they contacted the Naperville, IL store and arranged for me to drop it off there when I was to get a refund. He had talked to the store manager and gave me her name and told me to ask for her. The manufacturer was refunding Menard's. It was all worked out and arranged. So I took the water softener to Menard's and the manager refused to take the defective water softener and give us a refund even though it had already been arranged. Even worse, she was incredibly rude, arrogant, obnoxious and downright nasty. A call to Menard's corporate and things were finally straightened out after a long hassle. The manager had been authorized to take the water softener back and give us a refund and she knew it all along. I have no idea why she was so difficult and nasty. So we lugged the water softener back a second time and got our refund and more nasty attitude. We told ourselves that we wouldn't shop at Menard's again. Over time, we forgave Menard's and started shopping there again. So what happens? We bought 10 or 12 water softener filters that were defective. If a product is defective, a full refund is proper but Menard's doesn't see it that way. Menard's also didn't believe the filters were defective. So my wife asked if she could exchange them for the less expensive solid fiber type filter by the same manufacturer. Menard's refused even though it would have cost them nothing to satisfy us. Rather than agree to the insult of getting 1 cent each for the filters, my wife told the Menard's manager to just throw them in the trash. I have little doubt that Menard's will put them back on the shelf and sell them to someone else for over $3 each. That really is it. We will not shop at Menard's again That's the last straw. We are going to complain to Menard's corporate. At Menard's, the customer is most definitely NOT always right. Again, it would not have cost Menard's a single penny to satisfy us. If they agreed that the filters were defective (you could only tell when you tried to install them) they would have returned them to the manufacturer for a refund and, if they though they were not defective, they would sell them again for less than what my wife wanted to exchange them for. No matter how you figure it, Menard's wouldn't be out a single penny but, even so, they chose to treat us poorly again. I read more

Menards is a joke! They claim that customer satisfaction is the most important thing to the company. That couldn't be farther from the truth!!!!! THEY REFUSE TO HELP!!! I guess their total lack of customer service is why they do not list a phone number for the corporate office, only email or fax numbers are available, I purchased an Ideal Garage door for approximately $1500 plus installation was additional. I was told that this company makes the #1 garage door in the world. Neither Menards no Ideal garage Door (a division of Clopay) company wants to stand by the product quality. I've spoken with ideal and they told me oh well, that's the way it is. I paid $457 for windows on the top section with a 4 space grid. The grid does not fit any of the windows properly. The bars of the grid are short by 1/8 to 3/8 at either the top or bottom or sides of the window frame giving it a very unprofessional appearance. Neither Ideal nor Menards takes any responsibility and told me oh well that's the way it is. The brochure and picture of the windows at the store do not indicate any poor fitment nor is there a disclaimer in the color brochure fro Ideal. They said it's only supposed to look good from the curb not up close! They also said the space is allow for expansion or contraction. The grids are made out of plastic! Since when can plastic expand more than 1/8 of an inch? SERIOUSLY???? WTF!!!! They refuse to do ANYTHING to remedy the situation!!! Not remake the grid or offer any refund of any amount. DO NOT PURCHASE A GARAGE DOOR FROM MENARDS or MANUFACTURED BY IDEAL DOOR OR CLOPAY!!!! Go to LOWES OR ANYWHERE ELSE. I WILL NEVER SET FOOT IN A MENARDS STORE AGAIN!! read more

Bought an Over the Range Microwave Oven from this store. Store has recommended a handyman Jeff Castle whom I called to install the product in my kitchen. He came an hour ahead of schedule without letting us know, came without booty, made extra holes in my cabinet and wall, worked for an hour and told me the product is defective go exchange it and he will come to put it back. I exchanged the product and called Jeff right away. I called him multiple times, texted him without any response. I called store manager Sal and explained him the situation. Sal told me that Jeff will come back but he did not. I had to endure this unfortunate situation for several days before calling another company to work on it. Purchased roofing shingles today, and as per usual, the person checking me in to the yard, asked if i needed help loading. I said yes I would like help, and the guard said she paged someone. After waiting for about 10 minutes, and no one having come to help load my trailer, I walked into the building and asked for somone to help me load shingles. The two employees looked at each other for some time, and then one of them finally decided to come outside to help. He loaded the shingles and I drove to the guard where she scaned the shingles, and I drove to the job sit. After placing shingles onto the roof, it became apparent that about a third of the shingles where the wrong shingles. Now I have to slepem back. Thanks Menards. PS. on several prior occasions I have experienced the same lame response when asking for help loading. Inside the store I always get good servise. What's wrong with the loading yard? read more
