I probably started looking too soon bc the project remodel on my master bath won't start until June but I like to take time to make these design decisions. Connor was incredibly helpful and patient with me. He works with my contractor so the ordering was seamless. He knew dimensions and just how much of everything to order. If there is too much, I can return, no hassles. The product came delivered to my house and I can hardly wait for the it all to be installed. Don't shop here!!! The sales reps are not knowledgeable and don't take accountability when they make a mistake with your order! Then they blame you, the customer and make excuses instead of listening and trying to provide good customer service. Half of a box of tile were broken so they sent me a partial order but never bothered to call me to notify me or reorder the broken tiles. I had to notify them that I was missing enough product to perform the install. Informed the manager and was completely blown off! Horrible customer service- buy anywhere else! read more

I've done a few projects with these guys and I have had a good experience. They have a great selection and a lot of displays to give you ideas. CONNOR FITZPATRICK is an excellent resource at this location. If you are not experienced at setting tile you should start with a smaller project. ASK THEM what the right size trowel notch is for the size of tile you are laying. Confirm that you have the correct underlayment for what you are putting down. Look at the You Tube videos and maybe practice on a piece of plywood. Read the directions on the mortar and grout bags. Use the more expensive "leveling type" spacers that break off after you install them. Your grouting job will be easier and look better. Make sure all the tile is from the same dye lot. This is probably not the best starting point for an inexperienced person. They are going to assume you know what you are doing. This store is more for professionals and people who are selecting tile for a contractor to install. They will not be the cheapest but the selection and display will be superior to most other locations. read more

Called before I came to the store to make sure all of the tile in my order was returnable (we had unopened boxes once the contractor finished our job) and was told yes, all of the tile we bought was returnable if they were unopened boxes. Loaded it up in my car and dropped it off at the loading dock for a return and was told by the worker when he met me back up front that it's discontinued and the manager would be up. I told the manager that I had called and confirmed it's returnable before loading it in my car and making the trip over. Store manager didn't care, told worker to put it in my trunk and she didn't even say "bye" or "have a nice day", she said nothing to me after she finished working on the computer. Rude and poor customer service. Shop elsewhere. Clearly their manager and associates need better training. read more

Pathetic service - I went to buy a tile leveling bag that cost $50 and brought $100 bill and they did not have cash in the register- lady that was taking care of me went to talk with manager or someone by the name "Tom" he leave me waiting for a good 20min and was "oh $50 change? My husband and I deliberated over a handful of tile samples for weeks before agreeing on our favorite. When we returned to place our order at The Tile Shop we were told the tile was discontinued. Why on earth you would keep a sample of discontinued tile in your showroom is beyond me. Ridiculous and unprofessional. We will not return. read more

I paid a lot of money for tile and they gave me tile that doesn't match and I already installed half of it on my fireplace and now I can't match it and I can't take what i did down. I also ordered tiles that I got that were damaged and when asking to replace them they didn't have any in stock and so I had to put damaged pieces up on my hearth since I had flooring coming the next day and needed the tile in to be able to install my wood floor on time. Don't use these people they are a mess. And I'm out a ton of money and time and they can't help me undo the tile I installed and make it match. We've been scoping out Pinterest, home shows, magazines, and stores for close to a decade. We are very happy that we finally decided to move forward The Tile Shop. We worked with Connor Fitzpatrick who we found to be very knowledgeable and helpful in selecting our design and materials. Connor quickly understood what we were looking for with regards to color and style. He presented a few designs and options that we thought would work well. We had a good idea of what we wanted, but don't think we would have picked the perfect design without his help. The entire experience was remarkably short. Connor worked closely with our contractor to determine all of the components that would be needed to complete the job. That really took the hassle out of figuring all of the measurements and quantities. Our project is a steam shower, so we ultimately decided to go with the Wedi Shower System. The Wedi system offers exceptional features with regards to flexibility and durability, plus a warranty against leakage. It added a little extra to the cost of the overall project, but it's nothing compared to the peace of mind knowing that we have that enhanced protection. We had a bit of a challenge with the project. Not worth mentioning the details other than to say that we are glad we worked with the Tile Shop because I feel that they went above and beyond to ensure that we were happy with our total experience. Customer Service means nothing until you have an issue. Connor and the team at the Tile Shop took the attitude of "what do we need to do to make this right." And they did. Dave is the man (he also performs marriage tile counseling) and was seriously instrumental on the design as well as running the numbers, quantities, selection and budget of both our bathroom remodels - an INVALUABLE service that you will never find at big box stores. I had to replace a bad tile job in the master bath before selling my house. It was not leveled properly and had cracks running through beautiful Carerra tiles. I could not find a match for the exact colors of white and grey but called around starting with The Tile Shop in Countryside. They were helpful recommending a contractor for the job but could not get the correct tile. I then went out to The Tile Shop in Naperville and saw on display the exact tile I wanted. I called in the order and spoke with Jeff, who was very helpful and experienced. He said he could not get the 12" marbled tile in a "honed" finish but could get the polished finish asap. I went with the polished finish and it really looks awesome on the floor. Plus, it had to match the shower and the walls, which were honed. The problem: I had good customer service in the store and purchasing over the phone. Jeff also recommended I reinstall the heating elements (which were in the floor when first installed) which were expensive but quoted me a good price. My contractor spoke with him and agreed I should do it. HOWEVER, when the delivery truck came the very next day, at 8:45 a.m., as promised, there was only one man on the truck. He was a rather large guy, pleasant enough, knew what he was doing, but wanted to park the heavy truck on my concrete driveway and I told him, "No, because with my experience from before, it is still a frozen driveway and it will crack from the weight." So, he delivered from the street and asked, "Is there someone who could help me with this pallet?" OMG! I am 61 years old and have enough back problems. Luckily, I had my painter in the house and he came out to help. It was difficult getting the pallet of marble tiles over the curb. I called and complained to "Todd" because Jeff was not "in". I told him there should be two delivery persons because this tile was heavy and expensive and a difficult, long driveway to go uphill. The delivery guy actually slipped on some thin ice, too! My advise: The Tile Shop is great if you know EXACTLY what you want, when you want it and how much you need. Their prices are GREAT for the products they sell. HOWEVER, when delivered, please request a 2 person truck and pay the extra $50 or whatever, or you will be helping out with the delivery. End of story. read more

The staff was helpful but definitely sales driven first. All of materials are marked up 100% and I was told by a store sales rep that everything is priced "MSRP". That was only after I brought it to his attention, there were no "MSRP" signs. I would not buy here because they try to get you for as much as they can. read more

Buyer Beware!!! I used to work at the Tile Shop a few years back. They were shady then and they are still shady now. Much to my dismay and without my knowledge, my wife purchased 20 pieces of discontinued back splash tile from Mathew a former co-worker of mine. Because they didn't have enough pieces and some that they had were broken, Mathew ordered from all over the country to make sure we received our full order in good condition. When I picked them up Mathew mentioned that he made sure that the tile would be in good condition if not he will get me more from another location or a full refund. Considering he is a former co-worker, I took his word for it and accepted the tile. Upon getting the tile home and fully inspecting it I found that every single piece was broken. If a few pieces are broken it's not a big deal as they can be repaired since it's the skinny linear pieces, but our installer stated that because of how many pieces were broken he would have to charge an extra couple hundred dollars if he could install the tile at all as it would take a lot long to install. This was not acceptable to me. Upon calling Mathew back he indicated that he could get me a full refund of the tile if I would like. We decided to think about it for a few days. In calling back, Mathew was on vacation and I spoke with a manager named Tom. Tom stated that because the tile is discontinued he could not issue a refund and had no interest in honoring what Mathew told me. Tom would only state that Mathew had no authority to offer me a refund and that it is against store policy to refund discontinued tile. We went back and forth and eventually he agreed to give me store credit on half and a cash refund for the other half based on a technicality that was in my favor because Mathew only closed out half of the order. He continued to state it did not matter what Mathew told me as it is against store policy to refund discontinued tile. I feel like Tom the manager does not care about what is right or wrong for the customer or what his own associates informed the customers. This is not so different than how management was when I worked for them a few years back. I'm fairly certain that if I did not get the manager involved, the original salesman would have been able to take care of this for me without a problem. It was just my luck that Mathew had been on vacation. Tom continued to state that he could not give me the full refund as it is just not possible. I think we all know that it's a matter of willingness not a matter of can or can't. Tom was just not willing to do the right thing. Really Tom? Do you really need the $150 in business that bad? Business must be slow... I hope this 1 star review was worth the $150 in store credit. In addition, I spoke with the regional manager and he still wont issue a full refund after hearing my story. Time to contact my attorney that I have on retainer! Again, I hope this was worth $150 in store credit as I'm sure it will cost you more in legal fees at this point. Great business model! read more

I had an idea in mind for a master bathroom suite. After shopping at several tile stores, we had heard about The Tile Shop as a place that carries unique and higher end looking options, without outrageous prices. We gave it a try, and are SO glad we did. What a GREAT experience. The difference between the other stores and The Tile Shop - no comparison. I only wish I could take back the wasted hours in the mega stores. The Tile Shop had everything we needed for what we were looking to do. They have the most beautiful and diverse selection - a one-stop shop for tile. I'll never go to another tile store - ever. If you go in, ask for Ed. Hands down, he was very knowledgeable, considerate and really listened to what we wanted. Top notch sales professional. He has a true customer service focus and is helpful without any hype - not pushy at all. We ran into some problems during installation, but after working with Krista, my sales rep, and the store manager, they resolved all of the issues in a timely and satisfactory way. We spent so much time at The Tile Shop the other day, it was almost comical. The Tile Shop was our first stop of the day when shopping with my mother for a kitchen back splash tile that would coordinate with our new granite counter tops. Within five minutes of entering and looking around, Ed, the sales guy, came and offered us assistance. Shopping for me and my mom can be a ticking time bomb, but Ed was very patient and friendly. We showed him the granite and gave him a general idea of what we were looking for. Settling on a beautiful carrera marble subway tile and told him we needed it today. Ed made it happen. He stepped away for a minute and told his manager what was up, and they reallocated some stock from another order so that we could walk out with it today. I was happy, but my mom wanted to shop around and couldn't get the idea of going to Century Tile out of her head. Ed totally respected that, gave us his card and even gave us directions on how to get to Century Tile, as we had directions to one twice as far. So we left and regretfully made the trip to Century Tile only to be berated by one of their seasoned salesmen. I will never be shopping there again, but that's a different review. We also stopped by FCA across the street from Century and were helped out by one of their designers, Sherry. She was very friendly and totally understood our vision, but they were unable to fulfill an order on such short notice. We also stopped by Menards, but their selection was bleak. Back to The Tile Shop! This time I was able to convince my mom not to rush on installing the back splash. You see, we are having a party in a few days. and she wanted it in and done with only a day and a half to install everything. Ed greeted us at the door and helped us visualize what we were going for. Ed patiently watched us bicker going back and forth between sample boards and different sized subway tiles. He helped us lug the sample boards to a kitchen display so that my mother and I could get the big picture. Hungry and crabby, my mom was done shopping and we took a few samples to bring home and went to lunch. After lunch we got a third wind and returned to The Tile Shop. Ed laughed when we entered the doors and joked that he spent so much time wrapping up the sample tiles so beautifully. During lunch we decided to go with the carrera marble and bring it home today. Still interested in an accent tile, but not willing to spend the money on the pre-fabbed accent tiles we were looking at. He showed us some mosaic tiles that we could cut into strips to create our own accent tile; the same effect for 4x the value. We settled on a gorgeous travertine and glass mosaic and FINALLY made a purchase. Shopping from 10am till 4pm, we ultimately went with The Tile Shop. Their salespeople are friendly and accommodating, as evidenced by Ed, the most patient person in the world. Anyone who can successfully deal with me and my mother while hungry gets an A+. The store is clean, large, and well organized. They have a great selection of ceramic, porcelain, stone, marble, and glass tiles. The displays are beautiful and the store is nicely lit to highlight the tiles. They have everything you need to install tile from wet saws to grout sponges. I even purchased a DVD for $10 that explains step by step how to install the tile. The prices are competitive and you cannot beat the customer service. You will not be disappointed if you bring your business to The Tile Shop. read more

Watch what you are buying! Charging $17 a sq foot for a 8" x 20" tile in which one edge if the tile is honed nicely and the other 3 are sharp edges. Must be nice to sell a subpar product and demand such a high price. Went to ask the manager what the problem was with this and he said must be in the manufacturing process. So, now I HAVE to sit and hone out the other 3 edges to make all the tile look the same. Who pays me for my time? The installer who ends up making this product look great. Wish I could just get away with subpar installations and laugh all the way to the bank but I guess I have better etchics and a conscience. read more

I went into The Tile Shop (Naperville) today about 15/20 mins before they closed because I knew what I had in mind and figured it wouldn't take long to see if it's in stock or if I had to order it. I walked around for a while with absolutely no help from anyone. I decided I would try to figure it out myself but I made myself visible enough thinking maybe someone would see me and ask if I needed help. Nope. I lost track of time and then finally a lady comes down the isle and says "can I help you with something". I thought great finally some help. I start to tell her what I needed and she said well I just wanted to let you know the store closed at 5. I looked at the time to see it was 20 after. I said "oh, you came to tell me you're closed not really to see if I needed help". Really?? No help for the 40 mins I wondered around but help to escort me out. And oh, by the way, I wasn't the only customer (correction, I won't be a customer) still in the store. The others were getting helped and still there after closing. read more

I used them for my first job a couple of years ago and was really happy with the consultation they provided and ideas they suggested. They are definitely more expensive but I felt ok about paying more based on service. This time around, not the same experience. The initial sales rep was great but when I came into the store on his day off, they 2 different guys who helped me did not put the order in the system as they said that did. I ended up cancelling the order and am going to go someplace else. If your rep I not there, it feels like they don't want to help you as much b/c they probably are not getting a commission on the sale. read more

The Tile Shop has beautiful product, but they are completely dishonest, inconsistent and disrespectful to their PAYING customers. We spent a large sum of money on marble tile to renovate our bathroom. Each sleazy salesperson we spoke to told us that both partial and full boxes of tile could be returned. They went so far as to insist we needed a larger quantity of tile for the project and if we didn't need it, we could return anything to the store. Fast forward to today when we tried to return our excess tiles and they refused to take them back stating 1. Only take full boxes of tile can be returned and 2. We missed the return window by 2 weeks. 2 weeks?? I have boxes of product they continue to sell at a huge markup, and last time I checked, marble doesn't expire. Also, if I spent X thousands of dollars at your place of business, I think the 2 weeks are irrelevant. Terrible customer service. The individuals that work here are simply focused on commission, they are sleazy, Rush their customers through their decision process and LIE to customers. I will never go back. read more

Had a horrid experience here at the location in Naperville, Illinois. My husband and I purchased Travertine tile for a second bath and laundry room. The sales person, Connor F. was more than helpful stating that he had " sold over a million dollars worth of tile last year, and knew exactly what we wanted as soon as we walked in the door." After taking the tile home and rethinking the style we decided that it wasn't what we wanted. I returned the whole order today and was met with very rude customer service. An associate Travis initially met me at the door for the return. He was helpful and seemed pleasant enough. He assisted me in getting the tile out of my van and back into the store. Once Connor F. was notified that I was returning the tile he immediately gave me attitude and stated to the other sales associates standing there at the register that this was " retarded". Mind you this was all done in a busy store with plenty of customers around as well as other associates. Not once was I asked if I could be helped to find different tile to fit my needs. All I had to say was that I was returning because I changed my mind and any customer service that was initially provided was over. Other sales associates were noted smirking at the "retarded" comment, and seemed to enjoy the fact that he was giving me the cold shoulder and quite a bit of attitude during the return. As a RN, and a mother I found his comment to be very cruel and ignorant. I will never be back to another location, and have and will tell anyone that asks about my experience. My first trip into their showroom, I was never approached by anyone, then I had to track someone down to try and help me, and he had written almost everything down on my selection sheet incorrectly. Then would not provide me any pricing. Luckily I was not ready to order that day and someone else ended up helping me and started questioning all of the selections. Then I was told that I would receive a call in a few days to set up delivery, but instead I received no call until the drivers were already on their way and I was not home to receive the delivery. I called back to re-schedule, they told me they would be there Monday and that I would receive a call the Friday before to confirm a time, but again have yet to receive a call. I just called there and was placed on hold for over 10 minutes and then was told someone would call me back immediately and it's now been an hour and they still have not. So have no idea when, or if my order is even coming on Monday. This is absolutely ridiculous. Terrible customer service! read more

THE TILE SHOP IS AWFUL! I recently renovated my home and purchased a great deal of expensive tile from this store. I was very pleased with the selection and I was able to find what I was looking for ... until it came to my kitchen backsplash. I brought my cabinet drawings to the store, ordered tile, had my installer come out and we then realized the salesman didn't order enough. Our measurements were clearly written out on the cabinet drawing. I realized mistakes happen, so I ordered another box. I drove another 40 minutes to the store to pick it up, (horrible customer service in my opinion to make me go back after they made a mistake) brought it home and realized it didn't match. It wasn't from the same dye lot. So I then went through that charade TWO MORE TIMES. They tried to pass off boxes of mismatched tile to me that were obviously returned from previous jobs. I was then promised a resolution - the manager asked me to resend the drawing. He would come out to my house, take a look at the tile and most likely have to supply brand new tile all from the same dye lot to avoid the mismatched problem again. I sent the manager, Rich an email and I didn't receive a response for A WHOLE WEEK. Finally having had enough, I called him. Rich was VERY rude to me, questioned me, accused me and LAUGHED at me. I have never been so disappointed. I will NEVER return to this store. I'd much rather take my time and business somewhere else where I will be treated fairly. read more

I have purchased over $4000.00 of stone and ceramic tile from The Tile Shop. Every time I have gone to the store, EVERY employee has been patient, helpful, informative and professional. I have designed and installed my own tile in a bathroom and entry (over 300 square feet) and just had stackstone installed on a 40 year old fireplace. I have visited the store MANY times while deciding what to use, they have always treated me with the utmost respect and courtesy, which is something not always shown to women by contractors, hardware stores or home improvement stores. I especially like the mock up bath and kitchens in the showroom so I can see how the tile will look once installed. After researching just about every tile store in the western suburbs, I find The Tile Shop to have the best quality, selection and fastest delivery times. I have never had any problem returning tile I did not use. I highly recommend this business and intend to purchase from them again in the future. read more
