I took my desktop computer in about 1 month ago. It was 4 plus years old and it had crashed. After several personal attempts to get it to start, I gave up. Took it into Memory Express Calgary NW about 1 month ago. Was told it would take two weeks or more to get it back to me. I received a call from the technician working on my machine within one week. He related the problem to me over the phone and that he was in the process of repairing the damages. That was a Friday, by Monday I picked up my computer and brought it home. Total time I was without my computer was just over 1 week. I have been using it for approximately 3 weeks with out a problem. It boots up faster than before and there have been no more ugly blue screens of death. My cost was below what I was expecting to pay. I can't say enough good things about my interface with Memory Express regarding the repair of my computer. read more

Pretty good sales and repair service although unless you have their plan, might take up to 2 weeks to get your laptop back. I like Memory Express, but as their low to mid range laptops are PCs, I simply cannot recommend them. If the hard drive doesn't crash, something else will. I can't vouch for their high-end gaming machines, but I've been on a solid Mac now for about a year, and won't ever go back to PCs. My last purchase there was an Asus, and that was the last: although had some good features (Apple isn't perfect either), is heavy, clunky, took forever to boot up, and sometimes if too many browsers up, the thing will stutter and even freeze. I brought my laptop to Memory express to have it upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10. I asked the tech to backup all my data before upgrading to windows 10, he said there would be a charge of $50. I told him that was fine, but to make it was done as I have a lot of family photos and tax information on my laptop. They phoned me 3 weeks later to let me know my laptop was done. When I arrived at the store and turned on the laptop I found that they didn't backup my information, and that it was permanently deleted. It Used to be good and spacious with wicked displays and then for some reason they built a partition wall making the store smaller and the cool displays they had were gone. I am low to medium level computer savvy. I took my two work computers into Memory Express today and I was pleasantly surprised. They walked to my car to help me carry the computers in. The staff took a good 45 minutes to thoroughly examine my (German mystery POS) computers to tell me if it wouldn't be better for me to call the IT support system my work already has set up. They were willing to forfeit their potential profit to make sure I got my computers fixed without double paying for services. They were honest about the 7 day wait for the computers to be diagnosed as they are a busy place and there are only so many man hours in a day. I appreciated the honesty and the customer service - now we'll have to wait and see if they actually fix the computers... read more

Memory express is always the first place I go now if I need any electronics. The reasons, the staff take time to help you pick the right items, they keep your previous purchases on file, so when you are buying computer parts they will be able to tell you what is compatible with your current set up. I bought a TV here recently and their price beat guarantee beat an on line only price somewhere else so I got a $3000 TV for under $2000. The warrant is also cheaper than other places and easier to use. I had some problems with some purchases and they checked the items and swapped them for new ones right away, no hassle at all. I have not been disappointed even in the slightest since I started shopping here. read more

I am dissatisfied with the two year in store product replacement warranty offered by this company. My son who has now passed away bought an HP 360X and took it to BC where he was recovering from oral throat cancer surgery. At some point one hinge broke on this laptop and apparently it is such a common problem that a class action lawsuit has been filed in the US. After he passed I brought the laptop back to Calgary to be repaired or replaced and took it to Memory Express before the two year warranty had expired. Despite the first hinge being taped, the second hinge broke when I opened the laptop to back up his files before going to the store. They sent it for repair but then wanted me to pay almost $700.00 for parts other than the hinges and used excuses about not bringing the laptop in sooner (a twelve hour trip) that would have avoided the screen having to be replaced. Before I had found the receipt showing the warranty I had previously sent this to the geek squad for an estimate and they said the screen is not reusable once removed. I don't feel the excuses given for not honoring the warranty were completely honest. My daughter insisted they at least refund the warranty which they did. Unfortunately as usual what the sales department promises is covered is not what the reality is when there is a problem. My advice would be not to bother spending that extra money as it is usually just a waste and on behalf of my son's estate I feel cheated. read more

This location has good staff and a very decent selection's have a price match guarantee and are generally very competitive overall. If you don't know something usually the staff are very knowledgeable and willing to help. I am not sure if the work on commission but I have never noticed that they favour any one particular brand or model of anything and give honest opinions on their merchandise. I paid $2,000 for a new hard drive, MSoffice and printer, with a commitment to assist with customer service issues if I had issues. We had systems issues with setting up certain features for the computer and printer, including issues saving documents within MSoffice. We were told that we'd have to reach out to MSofficer or the printerco for help with set-up, and given videos. No customer support or trouble-shooting. So if you're hoping for customer service with set-up issues, there is no real help there. read more

I don't get how people say the prices are fair when 3ft HDMI cables sell for $50 and external hard drives are15% cheaper at Future Shop and about 25% cheaper (*after* ForEx) at Fry's in California or Nevada. What's worse is the service. One time I was hassled into providing all of my information to buy some blank dvds (I am embarrassed to say how much I paid for those). I went into their new store (across the street) and they said I couldn't view any of the netbooks because "we *just* moved here last week". I persisted, asking if they wanted the sale, and the prick of the associate made it seem like he was doing me a favor. I'll give more than one star for that, um, effort. I've had enough of the mediocre BS from this store. I'll just get anything I need from the USA or "Future" Shop, and only the latter because they are dumb enough to allow me to return just about anything. read more

Had a computer screen cover (plastic) start to crack and was getting damaged. Had bought warranty for the pc but product abuse was not cover. That's what I thought they would say. However, I was able to get the pc repaired within a week for free for charge! Customer service and sales representatives are very nice and friendly. Know their stuff and where it's located. Pretty good on time when it comes to repairs and all. If I could, I would give this place a 6 star review. read more

A great store for all of your electronics parts needs. The staff are real tech heads from whom you can ask advice, and their profit margin on hardware is razor thin (I know because I get U of C pricing which is a given % above cost). They do brisk business in custom builds and devices like TVs, but I've only ever gone for parts, accessories & cables. I've returned and exchanged items with no problem (usually 7 days) and they have everything on file in case you lose the receipt. It's hard to ask for anything more in a local tech shop! read more

I have taken my computer in twice now in Memory Express at Dalhousie. The first time was to just get additional ram installed. I took it in on Saturday and it was ready the same day, approx 6 hours later. I was advised RAM was installed and they ran a diagnostic as well and everything was great. Quick and easy appointment. So I thought my 1st appt went well, the 2nd should go very well since what I required was allot easier and quicker. I need my operating system re-installed. I would do it myself however when I took my computer to Memory Express last time, they took my operating system sticker off my PC and never put it back on or made a note of it? No idea why exactly? I dropped my computer off On Thursday morning, May 16 and they advised me it would be less then an hour to actually do the work and I had to pay for 1 hour? I was a bit confused why I would be paying for them to re-install it, when I could have done it myself if they had just left the Windows sticker on my computer with my PIN code when I had work done last time? I was not going to argue with them and just paid for it. I just wanted it re-installed and to have my computer back....after all it is quick and easy to do. Tomorrow will now be 5 days and I still don't have my computer???? I called this afternoon to find out the status and was told it could take up to 8 days???? I was floored to hear that and worse to hear they hadn't even looked at it yet??? Not sure why it would take that long for a basic install of an operating system? I do understand they maybe busy but installing software is not hard and can be done quiet easily while working on another computer at the same time. I wish I knew this otherwise I would have taken it else where or better yet bought windows myself and did it. I only took it to them since they are the ones who screwed up by taking my Wiindows sticker off my computer and not making record of it. I surely didn't think I should have to pay for the install??? I advise them I would be calling in the morning, yes on Victoria day to once again find out the status of my computer. If it wasn't complete, I would just be picking it up and doing it myself. Sorry 5 days is WAY too long to wait for a basic install of an Opertaing System and when I advised them, they really didn't seem to care. Obviously customer service is not one of the strong points. Now I just walk up to the counter and ask them for something, and often it's in the room behind them anyway. This place is awesome. The customer service will be able to tell you anything you need to know about computers because unlike Future Shop, the guys here actually know aboutt he products they sell, they are all a bunch of computer dorks, I mean that in the best way possible.... The prices are the cheapest I have seen not only in Calgary, but even online now that the dollar is on parity. The yahoo that commented below that Future Shop had any item that was actually the identical item from the same manufactureer for cheaper is flat out lying, Memory Express sells alot of their stuff online and tends to match online prices in store that Future Ship does not come cloe to touching. One simply needs to check out their very complete website to compare prices on like products, I have, there is no comparison, Memory Express is WAY cheaper. Nevermind the fact Futureshop absolutely robs people on ancient laptops and desktops that are on sale because they are so old they are worth 50% of their original value, so a computer that was worth $2000 2 years ago, is worth $1000 now, and Future Shop will give you 25% off and charge you only $1500 for that computer, what a deal.... The extended warrenties I tend to avoid like the plague, but this is one store I have used it often. The price on them is not all that high and the replacement guarentee is an on the spot if they cannot fix it you get a new item free thing, no working with the manufacture at all or mailing stuff off. For things like Printers that tend to break often or a Laptop computer which can be a total writeoff with one thing failing this is an awesome option. All in all this place rocks for anything computer related, I have no shopped it for their electronics so I cannot speak to prices on the TVs. read more

On November 25th, 2020 WD Red Pro 14 TB drive (SKU MX00113457 PART # WD141KFGX) was listed on the website under Black Friday Week promotion for $409.99 Limit 2 until end of day November 26. 2020. On Nov 26, 2020 a friend took advantage of this sale offer and purchased two items at that price (receipt can be shown). While we was there, he confirmed with the sales associate that the price was valid until end of day and not limited stock but still limit of 2 per person. The sales associate confirmed that the price was valid until the end of the day in store and not limited stock and would GUARANTEE that price until the end of the day. My other friend also there offered to buy the product if need be and was told not to worry about it and that the price was guaranteed. I came prior to closing that day and went to purchase the items but I was denied. I was told to wait for an email from the store. The next day, I talked to General Manager Marcus. Unfortunately, I was treated with complete disrespect. He told me that he did not care about my business after telling him I wanted to support local small businesses during COVID and that is why I waited to purchase it in store. Marcus refused to take my complaint seriously and completely rejected any other solutions. He told me that head office, ownership and etc. did not care about my complaint or future business and he was unwilling to take a profit loss on the item. He refused to give me any other recourse literally saying "the buck stops with me!". My opinion is that two mistakes were made, one with the company website and one with the employee. Marcus refused to compensate for the mistake however he did acknowledge both mistakes. Near the end of the conversation with Marcus, I mentioned that I did a lot of business with the company. My experience with the NW store: I bought a ~$2300 custom built computer last summer including a 4 year extended warranty. The night I brought it home I noticed they hadn't hooked everything up, the front panel fan/temp thing wasn't installed. Wasn't happy, but I didn't consider it a big deal until they accused me of 'messing around with the system'. I expected an apology for not hooking it up or something, but what I got was a manager who kept insisting I must have opened up the computer that night and moved things around because they would never send a computer out like that. They ended up fixing it grudgingly. I sent a complaint through their website about how they were treating me, but they just had the same manager call me up, and we ended up having the same ridiculous conversation. You'd think they'd be nicer people considering they're a local store relying on word of mouth. A couple days later the video started making really loud noises. That was it, I then took it back for a full refund since it was within the return period. I returned it to the NE store as I didn't want to deal the the NW manager again. About 3 weeks ago, I bought a AVG to HDMI converter in NW Memory Express. The product worked well at the beginning and failed to work recently, tried to return it in store, the cashier tested couple of times confirm it was not working, and replaced the brand new one to me, I asked to test the new one, it failed too as the result, I tried to ask for refund, they said I couldn't refund without the package box!! Then, they suggested me to buy the other converter which has the same functions as the AVG to HDMI converter, they tested it out, FAILED TOO! Base on all of these testing, it seemed like all products were not working! I was sure to ask for FULLY refund, but they kept saying that can't refund without the package because of the refund policy! As a normal person as me, they usually won't keep the package box after they test the products works! but one guy who is working there was so mean! he said:"I will keep the box for a while!" did he mean it was all my fault to NOT keeping the box after opening?! I I was so angry about the way he said to me! It was totally a BAD service!!! I didn't see he respect me as a customer! After all of these arguments, at the end, they gave me 80% refund of this useless product! I'm sure Memory Express should change the refund policy because of the TOTALLY BAD PRODUCTS QUALITY! It must to be IMPROVED to protect the customer from buying stuffs from Memory Express! Moreover, it was not my first time to buy the non-working stuffs in Memory Express, first time, it was a USB adapter, it was not working at all! but just small amount that I just let it go! Worst service I have ever experienced in my life! I used to come here for all my computer and electronic needs as they have better prices than most but I guess success has lead them to drop the ball!! Do not use their tech services as you will be over charged, the work will take twice as long or more to do & then they don't even do it right! I had to go back for warranty work & was promised it would go on the bench that day, 3 days later not even a call from them to let me know what is wrong or how much it will cost or if it is even covered by their warranty. Customer service does cost in lost productivity & time spent chasing them down. Do not use them if you want your computer repaired in a timely manner. After being a PC guy since Windows 95 I am switching to Apple as a result of this and Windows 10. It's a great store for technology savvy people and non-technology savvy people like myself. However, I don't particularly like their service. My boyfriend bought a laptop adapter for me a year ago, and he bought adapters from Memory Express many times and noticed that the adapters they carry seems to break apart easily. So he decided to buy the "Instant Repair Kit" for my adapter. So when you say "instant", I would think you are able to get the repair/replacement the same day you bring it back. But I guess "instant" means something else to Memory Express. It literally took them a week. Of course, they were telling me that they have to send it back to the manufacturer first and if the manufacturer thinks it's the issue with their products, then the manufacturer will replace it at no charge. However, if the manufacturer thinks the damage is caused by the user, no repair and no replacement. So really, why do people want to buy the INSTANT REPAIR KIT? Mind you, the issue with my adapter was manufacture malfunction and I did get a replacement for it. But what I really did not care for is when I was asking Memory Express regarding my adapter, they basically implied that I dropped my adapter multiple times to cause that kind of damage. I am sorry, I know I am not technology savvy person but I think I would know when and if I actually dropped my adaptor multiple times. I really did not. And of course a week later, they called me and told me that the manufacture agreed to replace it at no charge. Does it not mean the manufacture agreed that it is the malfunction of their adaptors? And even when I went back to pick up my replacement, the sale person said "oh you are lucky they gave you a replacement for it". Um...excuse me?! Lucky? You mean I am so lucky that I got a malfunction adaptor to begin with and that I have to drive back and forth just for an adaptor? What now?!! And as you have mentioned that IF the manufacture thinks it is their product malfunction, they will replace it. So why are you saying I am lucky? read more

Not impressed with this store at all. You walk in and cannot find anyone to help you and then when you do ask for the product that the web says the store has in stock, you're told - oh they must have sold out, do you want to come back tomorrow? Hardly - if the updated inventory says there's stock on hand, then don't come and tell me it's all gone within a few hours (we're talking about a 4GB USB flash drive here not the type of thing people are beating the doors down for). Don't bother - I'll shop elsewhere and frankly I won't be back ever again as there's lots of other places I can buy from. read more

The sales at memory express is ok. The after market service is terrible. I went to the NE location to have a screen looked at because blue colors would be green the associate their said thats the way they are. Not happy I went to the NW location the associate agreed and had the screen replaced. Soon after the keyboard had issues, we had purchased the premium service agreement. This laptop is a S300CA, after many phone calls nothing was done and ASUS parts supply was blamed. Just before the agreement stated they had to supply a new laptop the part amazingly showed up. After receiving the laptop back I noticed that the S/N sticker was removed did I get used parts?? The computer had a few more issues that they finally solved but going back and forth with the computer was a real pain and took weeks. I now have a keyboard issue again, took into service after seven days the technician called and said 50 dollars and he could fix it, we agreed week later we get it back nothing fixed, returned it to the store, week later we get it back same thing keys not working, take it back now for an additional 300 dollars he could fix it, we already have 55 (gst) dollars to diagnose, an additional 55 to repair now they want 315 dollars. This is a computer for my daughter she is attending Uof C. This all happened within a 12-13 months. The service techs are extremely rude to my daughter, when accompany my daughter the tone is different. If you are looking for service and competent technicians go elswhere!! read more
