Came here to look for the Nintendo Switch. Too bad no inventory. So the sales person was very nice and friendly. He said I should call and they can put one on hold. But of course, I would have to try my luck and call on the day of the shipment. They haven't got a shipment in for awhile so they don't know when but should be soon. I later walked around the store and I have to say. Yes it was quiet on a weekday but the layout is pretty good. Its spacious and comfortable to walk around. Good exercise and you get to browse the store. read more

The manager hires terrible people and doesn't know how to train them! to return the money for 1 product, they constantly changed staff. then it turned out that the return was not the full amount, the staff went around and rocked the cash store. This is the newest Best Buy in Calgary located on uptown 17th across the street from the Bernard Callebaut corner facing store and kiddie-corner to the street park. This weekend is their grand opening and they had some pretty cool things to drive people to their store! For instance yesterday, Lanny MacDonald was here and I forgot the name of the second celebrity who showed up. And until tomorrow they have a free limo ride back home - WHO DOES THAT RIGHT?! haha pretty cool. About a week ago, we received a post-card/flyer from them that had a barcode on the back and if you brought it in to get scanned, you could be the one who wins a $1000 Best Buy gift certificate... sadly no, we did not win. They do have this sale on a Canon T4i camera kit which I'm thinking about right now that includes a case, an external flash, 18mm - 50mm lens and a 16GB memory card for $750! I'm thinking about whether or not I want get the 7D I've been eyeing or go with a Nikon D7000... we'll see :) This is probably the smallest Best Buy store in Calgary, but I don't think that matters much as far as success is concerned - Both Toronto's downtown store and Vancouver's downtown stores are top stores in the country, so I'm curious to see how well this store does down the road. All in all, just another Best Buy store, but definitely a convenient location for downtown and beltline folk ready for the christmas holiday season :) read more

I believe that when they named themselves "geeks" it was supposed to be a self compliment, indicating that they possessed some computer knowledge despite their lack of interpersonal skills. Sadly, they appear to possess neither. In their defence, I believe that they are just incompetent, not nefarious. What should have been a simple process, the purchase of a new laptop and software from BestBuy and the transfer of information from old to new, has necessitated seven return trips to the store, numerous online chats and calls, and literally dozens of hours of wasted time. The Geeks have lied to us, blamed each other for various previous steps, and complained about their employer but none have been able to produce a working laptop with virus protection. At one point, one of the Geeks started to complain to us about BestBuy requiring them to upsell and "push Bitdefender even though McAfee is better" because BestBuy has to pay more for the McAfee licence than the Bitdefender. To be clear, we relied on BestBuy's recommendation for the laptop and the software, only to be advised after two weeks of problems that the hardware and software BestBuy recommended and sold us were not compatible with each other. Further, we were exposed to viruses throughout the two weeks. Quite appallingly, Jodie, the manager's advice is "keep trying". It has now been two months and we will be making our eighth trip as their phone system does not enable connection to humans and the chat bots plead ignorance. It is unfortunate that brick and mortar stores (and their shareholders) do not realize that if they are unable to offer something like customer service, Amazon will put the final nail in their coffin. read more

My Mister Man needed a laptop because his was eight years old. Yes, that is right. His laptop was older than most of our friends' children. Eat that, society! So his eight year old laptop broke down, obvi. So we went to Best Buy yesterday evening to fetch him a new one. We went to this location because it is in our neighbourhood, but in retrospect we might have been wiser to drive out to the 'burbs. The stock was quite low so, although we ended up deciding on a model that fit our needs, we left sans computer because it was out of stock. We were in the store for a long while, trying to look poised to spend some dollars so that an associate would help us out. This experience was magnified by my personal belief that giant box stores have way too many staff during the daytime hours, and not enough on evenings and weekends. So maybe we didn't wait that long, and I was just grumpy because of this conspiracy theory I've got about Best Buy et. al. Anyway, I got sick o' waitin'! So I went to the desk to one of the fellows in ties. Did you know Best Buy has fellows with ties? They are the guys who fix the computers, I think. The Geek Squad. So I asked him if he could sell us a computer. He was OK with that, so he came over to help. Now, what you need to understand is, we are not computer people. I mean, we can work a computer, and we have jobs and we barely remember a time when the internet didn't exist. But we also don't read ArsTechnica or Wired for sheets and giggles, you know? So we were able to communicate that yes, sometimes my guy plays video games from 2005, and that yes, sometimes we use MS Office. I tried to communicate that no, we don't watch Netflix, but that was too much for this guy to handle. But we couldn't tell you what the ideal processor is for our needs. I couldn't tell you the significance of a graphics card. So Geek Squad tie kept telling us what *he* would get. I wish he would have told us what he would get if he were in our shoes. So we finally pick a computer. Geek Squad tie guy is trying to find it, but it's not readily available in those cabinets under the display. He checks the system, which tells him that there is one in sock somewhere in the store; he speculates that it means it's in the storage cage high above the service desk. So instead of going to fetch it, he does the following: 1. Tells us to keep looking at other computers. 2. Starts helping another customer. Cue the "Wtf." Then came our knight in shining armour. And by "knigh," I mean "young man," and by "shining armour," I mean "a blue polo." This is the part of the story where one awesome Best Buy employee rectifies all the of the mistakes made by one not-so-awesome Best Buy employee, thus saving the store from losing a sale. Blue polo guy was totally helpful! He pointed out that if we're playing video games from 2005, we probably won't want the computer that Geek Squad tie guy showed us, because it doesn't have a CD drive. Then he helped us find a reasonably priced computer that would be perfect for *our* needs! Hallelujah! Fast forward five minutes, and we find out that the Holy Grail of laptops is not in stock, and the sale price only lasts until Thursday. Blue polo guy gives us a raincheck slip, reorders the computer, and ensures we'll get the sale price on Friday when it arrives. Huzzah! Best Buy experience could have been a 1-star. I don't normally go out of my way to review big box stores, but this one makes me happy! Best Buy has opened a new location on 17th Ave, which makes me smile since I'll no longer have to drive out to suburbia to get my electronic gadget fix. We typically do our research for whatever we are going to buy online... The information tends to be better than in-store, where you are subject to the knowledge and opinions of whichever employee happens to be working that day. The added bonus of online research is that you can determine which store (Best Buy, Future Shop, Memory Express, etc) has the best price. These stores all have price matching policies, which means you can go to the store nearest you and still get the best price available. Best Buy gives you an additional 10% off of the difference between their price and the competitor's price as well! So you can end up saving quite a bit of your hard earned cash by doing some research in advance. Another bonus: this location has electronics recycling! I have been building a pile of the "electronic-stuff-that-doesn't-work-but-that-should-be-recycled" for a while now... there is now a nearby location to drop it off! @BestBuy Calgary downtown service was good and bad. The guy was able to find the Blu-Ray I wanted and was really helpful but was in a hurry so it would've been nice if the movie was actually on the shelves (Released 2 weeks prior). Waiting by the entrance, when I mentioned it to the front greeter he said, "there's only so much time in a day." which sort of sounded like an excuse to me. Parking is $3 minimum (1-hour) but they have 3 free stalls dedicated to 10-minute pick ups. Again, when I asked the front greeter if I'd be towed while I was waiting for the guy to get my movie he said, "we have no control over it." Typical lack of accountability response. I used to work in retail so I know exactly how he feels but he doesn't need to voice his disdain for his employers to me, a paying customer as it looks poorly on the whole organization. Stock is limited compared to other stores. Store is smaller than other stores. Even as a comparison to other Best Buy locations this location gets a 2-star rating. read more

OH GOD WHAT IS THAT INFERNAL BEEPING oooohhhhhh bright These were my initial thoughts when entering this bright, shiny second story Best Buy location. I am a little upset at how 17th is turning into giant corporate land. I was appalled at the Sleep Country, disgusted by the Jamesons and now a Best Buy?!? But at least there is somewhere close for me to buy blu-rays at now. There really isn't too much stock in this store though, probably because of the location and the risk of grab and runs. It just feels cramped and the video game section is tiny. They did have a WiiU setup to try, but then a weird guy wearing a WiiU shirt next to it. So I felt as if I wasn't allowed to touch it, and there were no welcome gestures from t-shirt man of, "yes, come play with this horrible console idea where we took a Sega Game Gear and made it into a new controller/tablet hybrid of horror," despite my starring. We did manage to buy our intended target of Halo 4, after having to grab a paper print out of the game, bring it to the cashier, who then had to track the guy down who had the one key to open the fortress cabinet containing all the hot video games. The guy ahead of us in line bought the world's largest TV, which then had to be taken out of the box and pre-inspected to make sure it wasn't broken. I ordered a TV from Best buy on 20th April. It delivered to my doorstep today, 23rd April. Fast and reliable service.

If I could leave less than one star I would. Computer I purchased stopped working almost immediately and although they "threw in" a free warranty and Office 365, the way they wrote up the bill took the "free" stuff off my computer price...so the computer is actually worth nothing and the amount of money they will send me to replace my virtually brand new computer is just about half of what I paid. Be careful when you are being scammed by them. Seems harmless at first but when the time comes you find out the hard way. Useless! read more

A good experience the staff are not pushy from what I thought! the store is very nice and I love the entrance super clean and modern looking. In there stock is not half bad some cool stuff. and good things if you need in a pinch chargers and ear phones!! reasonably priced I think some are very expensive but its what you expect. My experience at this store was great and I would recommend THIS location to anyone anytime!! All the staff is on point and even the staff that is new/in training is soooo polite, working hard and knows when to ask for help. I had a very annoying problem with my phone (bought from a different Best Buy location) connection which took a VERY long time (multiple visits) to figure out, but thanks to Havyn, the master of everything, the issue is sorted out now and I am a happy customer after having a not-so-great experience at the other location. Not only did Havyn provide the best customer service on earth regarding the current problem, he also apologized and made up for mistakes made at the other Best Buy location! He truly went above and beyond and I am so thankful for all the time and effort (4h!) he put into fixing this really annoying issue of mine. read more

I have had great experiences regularly shopping here. However, today I waited for 40-45 minutes and not a single salesman approached me. I had to figure out all the specs of the laptops by myself and even when I decided to buy the right one for me, I couldn't buy it because there was no one even there. It was an hour and a half before closing time, this is ridiculous. I even asked someone from Geek Squad and they failed to get someone to sell me the laptop I wanted. I doubt I will go back. What a stupid way to lose a sale. read more

I LOVE this store. I'm a frequent user of their Web Reserve service, where I shop their website, order my goodies, and pick it up without having to go into the store (which I usually wind up doing anyway, sorry Visa card). It's a simple way to get what you want without the hassle. The staff that mans the counter are AMAZING at what they do, and are always so pleasant on the phone when they call to confirm. My last order, I spoke with a guy named Barkley, and was helped in store by Russell. These guys are the cream of the crop when it comes to customer service. Absolutely horrific customer service. Never buy a computer or anything that may require repair at some point. Atrocious tracking of products and zero phone support...you have to physically enter the store to get any sort of update and check in on your repair. read more

Worst experience ever!!! I bought this current laptop Dec 28/2013 and within two months the right side corner of the keyboard broke, faulty hinge and just cracked one day when I opened the laptop. I work 6 days a week and had to schedule time off to go to the store and drop the laptop off for repair a month after it cracked open on it's own and thought I had the total protection plan they talked me into buying months ago, only to get a different story when I got there! When I bought the laptop I mentioned I have dropped all my old laptops before and ended up going through three laptops in three years so the consultant from that department who was new told me to get the total protection plan so I would be covered should I drop this one too. Jokes on me being April fools day I guess, this is the first laptop I haven't dropped but simply had a hinge pop open on it's own! They then told me after I wiped my computer clean to be shipped in and fixed that I actually bought a step down from the total plan that doesn't cover accidental damage even though this isn't accidental damage!! They scammed into buying a $212 protection plan for things that will never break on my laptop and the only thing broken which isn't my fault isn't covered. Instead the manager, Marshall, tells me my only option is to pay another $400 plus that $212 for the actual total protection plan to get my laptop fixed ($600 in total!) . He actually tried to scam me into spending more money when I thought that was what I had all along according to the guy who sold it to me months ago! Not to mention just having the laptop independently fixed would cost me about $249 or so, why would anyone spend $600 to a plan when the repair cost is drastically lower??? He said first that they train their staff to know the difference and explain to customers, obviously not the case if I came in thinking I bought a full coverage plan and have some rip off version instead. Then he tells me it's my fault for being an ignorant consumer and believing the consultant who sold it to me without reading the fine print when I got home. I hate clutter and because they have me in the system at the store and anything I need to learn about the computer can be learned online I throw out boxes and unnecessary papers always. So in the midst of all this back and forth of the manager trying to scam into paying more money then even remotely needed to repair my computer, refusing to refund my money for this lesser protection plan they conned me into buying that I will never use and calling me an idiot consumer for believing their sales staff, another customer at the same counter asks to the manager to return my lower protection money as well at least. At this point the computer repair guy agrees the hinge looks broken and I'm not likely at fault, the other customer is joining in agreeing that this is complete BS and stop scamming me and the manager unwilling to change his mind in any regard unless it involves me paying more money for something I thought I already bought three months ago. That's when I left the store, lodged a complaint with their head office of best buy, all four departments I spoke before getting to one who could take my complaint all agreed that I was being scammed. I also had to call sony direct to see if they will take the laptop and repair it outside of this $212 protection plan that I wasted money on buying 3 months ago, which they will at least take a look at. Also my last laptop before this one was also bought at this store which I did drop and admitted to when I went in but they still wrapped it up under warranty which was kind. It didn't matter though because after awhile of getting it back it would disconnect from the internet randomly on it's own and then a whole bunch of letters, numbers and the colon stopped working and the computer was no longer even under warranty at that point which is why I bought this laptop finally rather then waste money attempting to repair the last one that no longer worked properly. Moral of the story is that you can't trust this best buy location at all, they don't understand what they're selling and will con you into buying something that is akin to burning money for all it will help should your electronics actually break down. I will never again buy anything from this company unless the head office reimburses me for what is essentially theft with the lesser protection sold to me under the pretense of being the one that would cover any damages, even damages I didn't inflict for once on my laptop and is just faulty hardware. read more

Hands down the WORST Best Buy in Calgary. Staff is inexperienced and only ever available when you do NOT need them around. In the past 2 years and dozen or so times I have called this location, no one EVER answers the phone. EVER. Peak time or quiet times do not matter. Corporate head office is a total writeoff as well. And they wonder why sales are down? They are terrible is why. read more
