We went to The Melting Pot in New Haven for our Valentine's date night and had an unforgettable experience. Our server Nicholaus was phenomenal. He was knowledgeable, friendly, and very attentive. We started with the Wisconsin Cheddar cheese fondue which was creamy, cheesy, and delicious. They give you pretzel bread, french bread, and fruits to dip. Next, we went to the salad which we both decided on the California salad which was a spring mix with gorgonzola, walnuts, and a raspberry vinaigrette. For the entree I got the steak lovers and she got The Classic with Coq au vin (a french chicken broth with red wine). At first I was nervous about cooking the meat ourselves but Nicholaus showed us they have a timer for each meat on their website so it was a breeze once we got the hang of it. Finally, we got the decadent smores fondue for dessert. There were waffles, strawberries, bananas, brownies, pound cake bites, and blondies to choose from. It was a delicious way to end the night. We really enjoyed the cheese course. Dinner course, well it's fondue so this means you're boiling your protein and veg. I could've skipped this course entirely and just stuck with the cheese course, gone home, and grilled steak and shrimp. They try with their options to boil the entree course, it just did not do it for us. Dessert was the turtle flambé. Our server, who was absolutely lovely, lit the pot on fire which was dramatic, but we both agreed it was tasted exactly like Hershey syrup. Neither of us could find the caramel. It was over $200 for two people to have dinner, one cocktail, and one soda. This was the cheese course, entree, and dessert. Service was the best part of the whole meal. Our server Megan was absolutely wonderful. But truthfully, we only really enjoyed the cheese fondue. The restaurant is well-appointed for large crowds that do descend on a Friday night. Decided to check out the melting pot this week in new haven CT! This is my first time ever going and was super excited to give it a try! And I must say everything beat my expectations! To start off highly recommend a reservation if going on a weekend because they are likely booked . However, we went on a Wednesday evening and it was nice and quiet for us . The hostess was very sweet she offered to seat us in the " lovers lane " area which is a cute more isolated and quiter area, perfect for a date night . The booth seating was very comfortable in this area a large tables . The tables come with a heating area and a melting pot for your fondue. They specialize in their 4 course meal options ( which I highly recommend ) ! ( $128 for 2 people 100% worth it ) ! It includes a first course of cheese fondue ( they offer a variety of cheese options ) We chose the Wisconsin cheddar ( which was amazing ) ! First course is served with dipping options of bread/pretzel bites/ veggies , apples and grapes ( endless as long as you have fondue remaining ) This was really goood !!! Second course is a salad option . I chose the California salad which had the raspberry walnut vinaigrette that was AMAZING !! Highly recommend . For our entree I choose the classic option which was a mix of chicken, pork , steak and shrimp which let me try a little of everything . Note You do have to cook the entrees yourself ( like hot table style) and they also have a timer online telling you how long to cook each item which was amazing ( esp as a first time comer ) . This was great because it gave us a fun activity to do and we learned something new , making our date night more fun and interactive ! Finally for the fourth course which is dessert we ordered the s'mores fondue ! Which was amazing ( although we were super full by this time otherwise we would have got another round of the dipping options) They offered pound cake/waffles/rice crispies / brownie and Oreo covered marshmallows ) The dessert was my favourite part 11/10 great service from our hostess and waiter Nick was fabulous ! Fun interactive dinning experience and great food quality ! Also they offered a valentines drink menu ! I got the strawberry chocolate martini which was AMAZING as was the strawberry margarita ! This place was so much fun. Plan to spend about 3 hours if you get the four courses because it's a lottttt of food and a lot that goes into each course. Great date night spot. Come hungry! I asked in our reservation to sit in a private booth as I heard from other people those are the better tables if u don't want to be near a lot of other people. They sat us in the back. It was nice. Service was amazing. Server had to explain how everything works bc it's a lottttt. We chose to do the Best of Melting Pot 4-Course. $125 for two people. Just note it's A LOT of food. We left stuffed. Note - you can get unlimited refills of the fixings that come with the cheese and dessert. To start, we opted for the hot honey alpine cheese. Very good. We then picked our own salads. I got the Strawberry pecan and bf got the Caesar. Both good. Ok at this point I was full and still had entrees and dessert coming! Entrees - We went with the Mojo cooking style and the create your own and you each pick 3 proteins. I got the Sesame-Crusted Ahi Tuna, herb chicken breast and shrimp. Bf got the Garlic Pepper Steak, Atlantic Salmon and Memphis Dry Rub Pork. Proteins come with a variety of sauces which were all delicious and fun to try. They give you a QR code to scan to tell you how long to cook each protein. This took a long time to cook everything and you have to keep track with different timers. It was fun though! Lastly, we got the S'mores chocolate fondue. Delicious. Our waiter was so nice. I'm gluten free so he brought me out a special tray of gluten free fixings for the cheese and dessert. I wish I remembered his name. Very outgoing guy. When I come back I would probably just do the cheese and chocolate knowing how much food the four courses are. It was a really nice evening though. (This was in the beginning of June, there were obvious kinks to still work out as they had recently opened) Our server was friendly and the cooking process was explained well. My husband and I had a surprisingly disappointing first visit to the New Haven Melting Pot. We loved the Melting Pot in Darien and were happy to see this location open. Unfortunately, we left disappointed in the atmosphere and service of the New Haven location. When we arrived, we were promptly greeted by a very friendly hostess. We were seated in an area that is two rows of booths. We were disappointed that this location did not carry the same warm and cozy environment as Darien. It was very loud in that area and hard to hear one another. We heard conversations and complaining at the table across from us our entire meal and it just put a damper on our experience. As far as service, we were not impressed with our server. I'm not sure if he was new and still learning. He was uncertain when you would ask him questions and just lacked confidence. He never asked if we wanted refills on our drinks. By the time he came back to check in, it was time for the dessert course so we didn't even want another drink at that point. Additionally, while we were waiting for one of our courses, a magician came to the table and asked if he could do magic. We were both very taken back by this as it seemed like a very strange form of entertainment for such an expensive dining experience. I would love to say I would give them another chance. Really enjoyed our experience at the melting pot. We did the four courses for two people. It started with a pot of fondue and then a salad and then an entrée you could either use broth or a grill and then a chocolate fondue to end. The experience was definitely delicious but very lengthy so plan on being there for more than a few hours. The staff was on point. Went here to celebrate passing the bar with my girlfriend and our dog. We sat outside--the only thing I would maybe suggest is putting a gate up so there is more separation between the dining and the sidewalk. However, with that being said our experience was fantastic. The food was great, the drinks were great, and we even got to meet the in-house magician Brian! He was so lovely. I have been to this location a few times with my one best friend and each time it was a great experience! Especially last night. We sat at the bar, had the white peach cosmos(AMAZING) and they had a promotion for free cheese fondue which of course we took advantage of. Our bartender was amazing as well as managers walking around ensuring everything was to our liking. It was decently busy but not loud to the point I couldn't hear my conversation. From the moment we walked in we were greeted with such warmth and friendliness. We were celebrating my daughter's birthday and purchased the birthday package. It was a great add on, and made my daughter's night! I am gluten free and the accommodations and offerings they had were unbelievable. Usually when we go out to eat my offerings are either non-existent or they are few and far between. Hands down, a great experience, delicious food and a great atmosphere. I booked a reservation for 12 to celebrate my wife's (and her twin's) birthday. From the start, management assured me they could handle a large party, but the evening turned into a disaster. Our 6:45 PM reservation didn't wrap up until 10:20 PM--nearly four hours for dinner. Service was slow and sloppy. Several drinks were forgotten or wrong, glasses weren't cleared, and reorders took forever. At one point a guest joked about leaving to buy liquor. The menu was overly complicated, orders weren't taken properly, and the entrées were confusing and underwhelming--raw meats brought out with instructions to scan a QR code to figure out how to cook them ourselves. Manager Kenna saw my frustration but instead of fixing the issues, she made sarcastic comments, including telling the group to "make it seem like we had a good time" while taking our picture. This dismissive, unprofessional attitude only made things worse. By the time dessert was served--after nearly four hours--my wife didn't even want it, saying she just wanted to leave. Our $1,287 bill was met only with excuses about large parties being "harder" and the restaurant being "new." The only gesture was a $100 gift card, which I will not be using. This was a major failure in service, organization, and hospitality. What should have been a special night was ruined, and I will not be returning. read more

This was my first time coming to this fairly new restaurant and boy was I glad to have tried the place. It's so nice they have many different types of seating areas, that can accommodate different size crowds , nice dim lighting and lots of space . I'm glad we chose this option because I was full by the time the fondue came, which is the last course . The dipping bites are bottomless so you should have plenty . The new Melting Pot in New Haven is definitely worth checking out for a great meal and experience. We came on a Saturday night for dinner, and it didn't disappoint. Cheese fondue first course, we went with the cheddar, so good, plenty of snacks to dip from different types of bread, to veggies and fruits. Main course we did the pick 3, shrimp, chicken, and potstickers were mine, lobster tail and filet were also delicious. Its a cook it yourself entree and the new grill option is great, hifgly recommend. Desert was of course chocolate fondue that you get an unlimited assortment of cookies, brownies, fruits, rice krispy treats and more. Drinks were good. Waitress was excellent. It's an experience, so be ready for it to take a few hours. Inside is brand new and beautifully done. They also have valet service which is great for new haven. We made online reservations using OpenTable for our 25th wedding anniversary, we have been so excited to try the new Melting Pot since the Darien one closed. This melting pot did not disappoint but it is a bit different than Darien or other locations, due to its location. This location has mostly tables and chairs (padded chairs so plus 1) unlike other locations which are mostly nice secluded romantic booths. Our server Tatyanna was doing great for a first time MP server, she was ready with explanations and guidance. We each had the lemon drop martini which was good, I still miss the flirtini, which was my fav. We chose the a la carte menu so we could skip salad bc the cheese, entree, and chocolate fill you enough. We shared the cheddar fondue to start with veggies, breads, and fruit to dip in. My husband got the vegetarian pot option, I had mushroom ravioli, chicken, and chicken potstickers in coq au vin cooking style. We had the yin yang chocolate for dessert and I could die happy after dipping a blondie piece in this chocolatey goodness. I had called to inquire about parking and they said it was street parking but there is a lot you can pay for directly across the street which is what we did. We were really looking forward to our visit to the newly opened Melting Pot in New Haven. My fiancé and I, along with our best friends, planned this double date over a month ago. As frequent patrons of the White Plains location, we were excited to have one closer to home. We had a 7:30 PM reservation and didn't leave until 10:45 PM. While we know The Melting Pot is meant to be a drawn-out dining experience, this visit felt more frustrating than enjoyable. Our server, Tatyanna, was very sweet, but clearly inexperienced. With my background managing several restaurants throughout Connecticut, I can usually recognize when a server is new -- and she was understandably nervous the entire time. While I normally wouldn't mind that, it was clear that the training across the board was lacking. For most of the night, the bartender was nowhere to be found. We waited 45 minutes between courses and would've loved to enjoy a cocktail during that time, but our first round of drinks didn't arrive until after the cheese course -- and our second round took 34 minutes. I even noticed our drink ticket just sitting there, unattended, while the bar was empty. To their credit, the staff did try to make it right. Tatyanna apologized, the manager comped $40 from our bill, and we were given a $40 gift card. While I appreciated the gesture, we still spent $190 per couple on what was ultimately a very disappointing night. I truly wish this location success -- but unless they get staff properly trained and improve overall service flow, I worry it won't last. Ehh. I would say this was "OK".. service was just "ok", food was "ok" and honestly it took over 2:30 hours to eat as we were rushed to finish certain courses and then left sitting for long time. Pretty inconsistent portions as well- very large cheese with plenty for dipping while the chocolate fondue was minuscule and not nearly enough for the amount of dippers. Server would disappear for long stretches- also splashed cheese fondue all over our tabletop while making it and left it there for us to clean up, our chocolate fondue was just dumped on our table as chocolate sauce with a large tablespoon of peanut butter in the middle- cold and not mixed. One entree had tons of protein while the other was noticeably less. My garlic steak was inedible - fatty and unappetizing. For amount it cost, it just wasn't that great and pretty expensive. $255 for 3 people. One and done for me. I've been to the former Darien location and the ambiance and service was better. The valet was the best thing- polite and made it easy to park. read more

Where to begin? First off we fully understood this was a novelty restaurant experience so we were prepared for a longer than average dining time and slightly pricier menu. We chose the four course for two at 125. The server was very nice explaining the meal. We chose the grill option because the other options were to boil our entree which just sounded gross. The veggie portion was good so we were encouraged. It all went downhill when we ordered two glasses of wine. One glass was half full the other a quarter full, we didn't say anything. Then we waited and waited and waited, 90 minutes between courses for the entree to arrive. We asked what was up and were told it was being prepared and the kitchen was backed up. First off what is there to prepare they literally bring out a few small pieces of raw meat and a few raw shrimp. Secondly, the restaurant was nearly empty and now I know why. So when it finally arrived we grilled our food ourselves. It was just ok and the portions were small. For 125 we were both still hungry. After another long wait we finally got our chocolate fondue at the table again explained it took some time to be prepared. It was cold so we had to wait for it to warm up and there was barley chocolate to cover the bottom of the fondue pot. Our bill totaled 165 before tip. Really really not worth the price by any stretch so I asked to see the manager which I NEVER do. She apologized and agreed they could do better. She took 25 off the bill and gave us a 25 gift certificate. We won't be back to use it. Dinner out should be fun and satisfying not frustrating and leaving you hungry. read more
