After strolling around the weekend Art and Wine Experience we all were getting hungry, so headed over to the Mushroom. We arrived at the entrance and waited for a table; it wasn't crowded yet, the day was very pleasant, and we decided to sit outside on their patio. Our little group hadn't been out together in a long time so we all were chatting and talking and I didn't catch our server's name, but she was friendly and efficient. Amazing how much chaos can happen from five people .... A bottle of red wine, a couple beers, and for myself the Peach Fizz cocktail: very pleasant, so another was ordered as well as more beer. Taking a Lyft makes everything easier, and we can enjoy these events without worrying about who's designated driver. The pizza was a cheesy pepperoni with a nice crust, another had a calzone that also looked good and full, some shared salads.. The entertainment here on trivia night was great! We had a party of 10 and we all had a blast trying to think of the answers. Our group wound up being 4th place out of 12 groups. Not too bad. I have been to Mellow Mushroom in both Texas and North Carolina so I was excited when I found out that there's one within walking distance to my apartment in Desert Ridge. Located on High Street, I've stopped by twice for dinner. Both on Tuesdays. One time, I walked. The other, I parked in the complimentary lot. Ambiance (3.5/5): Mellow Mushroom is a chain but I'm a fan of their vibe. Hippie or hipster would be the best way to describe it. It's a large restaurant with plenty of table seating and a large bar (partially indoors and partially outside). Plus a patio. I've sat both at a table and at the bar inside. Service (3.5/5): I've had A+ service on my first visit at a table and mediocre service at the bar (slow and unattentive). So, it seems like it all depends on the waiter or waitress you have. May the odds be in your favor. Drinks (2.5/5): Mellow Mushroom has a full bar (including some craft brews) but I've gone with non-alcoholic drinks on both visits. A sweet tea on one occasion and an Arnold Palmer on the other. They make their Arnold Palmer with Minute Maid lemonade which is pretty much the bottom of the totem pole when it comes to lemonade. And both drinks are $3.79 so pretty pricey for a soft drink. Food (3/5): On my first visit, I had a pepperoni pizza and on my second visit, I had the cheese bread appetizer and the meat lovers calzone (they have a different name for it). I'm a fan of their pizza. It's greasy (just like I like it) and they sprinkle some parmesan and some other magic on the crust which is delicious. Solid, solid pizza. Especially for a chain. The cheese bread is similarly solid with the cheesy goodness you would expect and a marinara dipping sauce. The calzone, on the other hand, disappointed. It had hamburger meat, genoa salami, and another meat but it was very heavy on the hamburger meat. It was huge, which I always appreciate, but a bit dry. So, like the service, a little bit of a hit or a miss depending on what you get. They sent me some coupons by mail which I always appreciate. The prices are a bit expensive across the board for what you get but it's still a solid spot. Especially if you go with a pizza. read more

My family had such a great experience at Mellow Mushroom on High Street! We went on a Wednesday afternoon to eat dinner prior to going to D&B for half price games. The restaurant was pretty empty for Happy Hour, but we appreciated a more quiet atmosphere compared to other places on High Street. My husband and I ordered beer as it's half off for Happy Hour and you can't beat $4 for a beer! The best part is that their Happy Hour beer special includes all beers except imperial, and the selection is HUGE! We ordered a medium Pacific Rim (no jalepenos) and a small pepperoni pizza which was plenty for the 4 of us. Both pizzas were so tasty and we all love the crust at Mellow Mushroom! Both pizzas were cooked to perfection and the toppings to crust ratio was excellent. If you need a good option just outside of Desert Ridge for Happy Hour then I'd highly recommend this place! read more

Crisp crust and deliciously fresh mushroom toppings. The cheese was hot and perfectly stringy. Our salads were super fresh, with crisp romaine leaves and crunchy croutons. Timing was quick and pick up was super easy, just down the street from our house. One small detail, our salads dressing was forgotten. No biggie, we had some in the fridge. Drove 40 minutes from Surprise to get the meal to celebrate a birthday at Mellow Mushroom, planning to order takeout. We arrived with an hour left before closing, thinking we were being considerate by not dining in and ordering to go. Which led to this review. After reviewing the menu and deciding what to order, we were told the kitchen had closed *one minute ago*. Yes, They actually said, "one minute ago," as if that somehow made it better. C'mon, bro. Really? If the kitchen is going to close earlier than expected, at least update your hours online or let people know when they arrive. A little flexibility or customer care would've gone a long way. Their food can be good or I wouldn't work a nearly 2-hour round trip into my week. I'm not even hangry writing this. I just don't want anyone else wasting their time like we did To anyone ordering later: call ahead and double-check their hours, because making a special trip only to leave empty-handed is a huge letdown. Terrible Worst Experience at Mellow Mushroom. I highly recommend saving yourself the disappointment and going to a different location. I was very disappointed with my experience last Friday. We waited 10 minutes to be seated but never officially got a table. We ended up going to the bar and waited another 10 minutes for the bartender to acknowledge us, despite the restaurant and bar not being busy. I had to ask for service! After that, we waited 25 minutes just to pay the bill because their computer system was down. The food was also subpar. The pizza crust, which was supposed to be crunchy and crispy, turned out soggy. I'll start with what some will consider an opinion... the pizza doesn't taste great. I had steak something and my kids just cheese. We all agreed, the whole thing tastes like they added sugar to it. The crust by itself, feels more like bread, and tastes like a doughnut. My steak pizza had mayonnaise on it, it was... gross. Nothing had flavor, just super rich sugar and butter taste. Plus the place smells gross. Now for the facts... I had a slice from the fridge a day later and two hours later my body and my toilet became a crime scene. A very violent drowning affair after which the victim was so disfigured it was unidentifiable by my family. My body is now an empty weak shell, shivering and clinging to the wretched life mellow mushroom has given me. In this sad state, I'm even more haunted by that weird mellow mushroom smell because it was the same exact smell the second time around! If I pass, may this serve as a warning to others. read more

This was my first time in the restaurant, I liked it. They have a very unique space decorated with old instruments and vinyl records. The servers were very kind and patient. Big drink selection including a well crafted beer list that includes a lot of locals and nearby craft beer. So this is a delayed review. My visit was 1-2 months ago. I am a frequent Mellow customer. I live 7 minutes away and love the staff. Joe and J. I always sit at the bar as I am usually alone and meet friends. I have a service dog with me. I decided to stop one evening and went in the door where the bar wraps around and just got in the door (I was no more than 10 feet in) and was approached by a manager that was short with brown hair that I have seen before he proceeded to tell me he knows the law on the service dogs and what is and is not a service dog. I was completely humiliated and embarrassed and have not attempted to return. I take my service dog so many places around and have never experienced this nor do I want to again. I do miss the bartenders and the gatherings I used to attend. I am a year around customer that lives close and I do miss it. Another approach would not have resulted in this. read more

Unfortunately, this last experience with Mellow Mushroom was unpleasant and I felt the restaurant failed to deliver. My prior experiences with them have been okay. The food is pretty good and unique flavors such as the holy shiitake are available. I'm not a fan of their thick bottom crust and surrounding crust as it's a bunch of extra breading. I'm prepping to work my night shift that starts at 6pm. I call around 5:20 pm initially to pick up but hear that there's an estimated pickup time of 30 min. Not wanting to get to work late, I order online via their website. I get a confirmation that the food will be delivered by 6:30pm. Ok, a bit over my starting time but I paid expecting this. 20-30 minutes goes by after 6:30pm and still no pizza. I call my delivery person who says they're still waiting at Mellow Mushroom as the pizzas aren't made yet. I call Mellow Mushroom who briefly apologize that they messed up my order and it'll take another 10 min. At this point, I would appreciate a proactive "hey here's some pretzel bites/salad for our mess up, sorry about the wait" since a call indicating that the order is running late wasn't placed. Ok, so another 10-15 min go by after I called MM and I get a text that my delivery person is on their way. I'm standing outside for 10-15 minutes additionally after work started, as my delivery person has marked "arrived" but hey, they're not even at my work site. I get my pizzas 2 hours after order time, and open them to find that one of them is pretty shoddily made to not just accommodate my love for crust on the outside of the pizza, but now for the inside! ... Tip: The check in deal was too good to pass up! Make sure to check in. Service and cleanliness: We went on a weekday during happy hour and were seated right away. However the booth was quite dirty with crumbs and grease spots so we did have to wipe it down a bit ourselves. The bathrooms were a bit messy too. And the water tasted a little off ( ask for lemons!) In general the place felt like it could use a good scrub down, especially during these COVID times.
