We have been to Mellow Mushroom several times and have not had a bad meal. The pizzas are excellent and they even make them for you to take home and bake yourself that satisfies the loss of Papa Murphy's. That's actually a big deal for many, including us. However, don't think their pizzas are in the same class as Papa Murphy's, they're not. They're miles ahead. We do mostly go for the pizzas, but the salads and appetizers are great, especially the bruschetta. I do have one minor complaint and that is that the music volume is a little high. I realize that is subjective, but I have heard others say the same thing. read more

The avocado hoagie came very last and I had already ate the soup and bruschetta and I was kinda full. It totally looked like they just threw it together but it was still good. I visited this restaurant with a friend who could not stop talking about how good the pizza was and it did not disappoint. Our server was very nice and gave us her recommendations about what to order. The restaurant concept is super cool and unique. I ordered the merry prankster with a side of red sauce (which I was charged for without knowing but it wasn't too expensive). "OBJECTS MAY APPEAR LARGER..." Really disappointed in this location. We are in Owensboro for sports tournament weekend. It's not the first time I've eaten here, but it is my first experience with online ordering, carry out and appetizers. I have 4 adults and two kids to feed. We order 2 large pizzas, pretzel bites and cloud nine wings. Pizzas were good. I've never had a pizza from a Mellow Mushroom that has deviated from their standards. The appetizers are something else. First of all, "Pretzels" are in no way pretzels. It's pizza dough breadstick bites tossed with a bit of oil and parmesan. The picture from online ordering indicates about 30 bites and a big cup of cheese. Instead I receive a paltry 14 irregular nubs of greasy bread and a 4oz cup of sauce filled about 2/3rds full. I asked the lady at the pick up counter about it, showed her what I ordered online yah know...what I expected to receive. She says it's 4 oz of bread, "that's what you get." I let her know that the picture is misleading, I'm trying to feed 6 people here. And she just shrugged. I get it all to the hotel and the wings look pretty unappetizing, but at least the count is about right! TLDR: skip the appetizers and order two sides of beer cheese for the pizza crusts. read more

My son and I came on a Thursday night. The atmosphere was nice and it wasn't crowded. The hostess decided to seat us in the bar, even though there were plenty of booths and tables open in the main dining room. Not sure why she thought that was the best choice, being that my son is a 12 year old. Further, she sat us RIGHT next to another table even though there were tables open in the bar. but that party left soon. not long after, the hostess sat another party directly next to us (the tables are like 2 feet apart so this was slightly awkward seeing as there were plenty of other tables open). But this was not a huge deal. We ordered the half order of mild wings (5 wings for $7.99), expecting them to be either super delicious or very large. They were neither. Very mediocre. Expected more bang for my buck there. We ordered a medium pizza, which was also mediocre. The crust was probably what stood out the most, being flavorful, not too soft not too crunchy. Our waitress was perfect though. She was nice, brought refills and to-go box without being asked, and checked on us with a smile. Overall, the atmosphere and service were great but the food was overpriced and just okay. Maybe we should have ordered something different. We will probably try other places in Owensboro before returning to Mellow Mushroom. read more

We had a good experience at this Mellow location! I've eaten here twice now, and as someone with celiacs and is plant based, I appreciate the gluten free crust and many plant based options for a build your own pizza. Every time I order the gluten free crust here, I'm informed of the possible cross contamination, which is obviously something they have to say, but it's nice that they are earning customers of that for people who can be really sensitive to gluten and don't want to take the risk. Each time, the food I've had was hot, seasoned well, and yummy. The service both times has also been great. read more

I got the same pizza I had then - the shitake mushroom small. It was good as I remembered it. The service was fine in the bar and food came in a decent amount of time. I did have a small Caesar salad to start. I was not a big fan. I'm used to a creamy dressing but this seemed to be clear like a vinaigrette but flavor was fine. No complaints really, just didn't care for the salad. Servers were nice but not remarkable. I'd go again. Next time I think I'd drink because someone was raving about the sangria. read more

Ordered a carry out thin crust. Phenomenal taste! If it was just a little more crispy, as it was requested but far from a bummer, it would have made it to my Top 5. Still a Top 10 is amazing! It had a very good sweet flavor, decent amount of toppings and the flavor was wonderful! Next time, I'll be dining in. This place has a very cool vibe to it. We were in town on a trip after a stop nearby for the Nicky Hayden memorial and swung by for dinner after. The waitress was super friendly and the beer selection was quite good. The service was amazing, the staff so friendly and helpful. The pizza quality was also above the rest, they really take care to make sure they are consistently putting out great food, and it shows. Well last night we went to Mellow Mushroom with couple of our friends who love 54 pizza express and also live outside of Owensboro. So when they come to town and we have pizza it is really hard for them not to get 54. With that begin said and it begin one of their birthday's we actually talked to them to going to mellow mushroom. I was actually shocked with what came out of their mouths half way through the meal. "This is way better then 54 pizza too bad they don't deliver and this is even better then what we have at home as well." they said. The wait was insane the restaurant was cold the pizza tasted pre heated over all it was just not that good.

Food was great but service was subpar at best. One of the bartenders was really sweet and helpful, but the other kept walking past us, never asked if we needed anything (checked several times on the couples next to us) and we had to wait for close to 10 minutes for her to even look up in our direction so we could get our check. I used to work at a mellow mushroom so was exited to try one in a different state but didn't have the best experience. read more
