Love the mellow, great beer menu and really different/innovative pizza

We had a party of 4 and each of us ordered a different pizza from the menu. Everyone enjoyed the food. Mine was chicken and feta and was very good. There was plenty of pizza leftover to have for lunch the next day. Crowded and a bit noisey, but fun atmosphere. Great service, pleasant and timely. read more

This place is a bar; not a restaurant; well a bar with food. It was not our first time there. It was Loud,loud, loud! Servers can't hear you. Our order took forever to come out, and two items were wrong. The third item is causing me to make a dentist appointment for my husband. Apparently, they receive pitted olives, but a pit was in an olive in my husband's salad. Yes, he found it when he bit down hard on the olive. Child ordered a cheese calzone with shaved parm. I should have been alerted that something was not right when I was asked if he wanted the parm on top. I replied, no inside. I ordered the house calzone without the mushrooms, but requested shaved parm as a substitute. Nope, that didn't happen, and it came out cold. My son's came out steaming hot. Not kidding, we thought the wrong order was delivered to our table. She brought it back to the kitchen, and she told us that they would make another. Um, no; we had been there long enough. Waitress knew we were unhappy, and she alerted no one. Child who could eat pizza at every meal, does not want to go back. I spent most of the car ride home calming him down. I called the restaurant when we arrived home, and Jason(mgr)didn't seem too thrilled about our experience.Most likely, he will be receiving a dental bill in the near future. Love this place.....The food is great, the atmosphere is hip and modern, and the servers are friendly. It can get a little noisy when the band is playing. The one main negative is the wait due to the freshness of the food....Take good company with you, as your meal time can expect to be two hours during the weekend evenings. Even with that, I consider it one of the best pizzerias in Hickory. read more

Very good Sunday lunch! We were passing through Hickory and stopped for lunch. Good food and very pleasant service. Quick off and back onto I-40. House calzone was delicious, a lot of food but I had little trouble finishing it off. Partner enjoyed the sweet/spicy wings. Will likely go again next time through. read more

My wife and I go here about every few weeks; mellow mushroom is always an A class type place to eat. Sure it takes a little longer to get your food, but it's literally made fresh right in front of you. P.S try the pretzels and red sauce, you won't be disappointed! read more

Food and staff are great..only one problem did I have and that is ...It's nice to see that they are wearing hats ..BUT they need to wear beard nets as well.The more I watched them flipping pizza crust with BIG hairy beards .The LESS I wanted to eat my pizza. read more

My experience was absolutely terrible! To begin, we waited over 45 minutes while 5 different parties who arrived after us were seated before us. The first hostess took our name and gave us a pager to notify us as to when our table was ready. The first hostess left and another hostess showed up and began seating people, randomly. There was no order to the way she began seating parties! When I finally said something to the hostess she put the blame on someone else and told us she could seat us outside on a "heated patio." So much for the heated patio though... The heaters turned off about 20 minutes after we were seated and another table had to ask for someone to turn them back on. We then had to wait over an hour for our food. I understand that it takes a while for a pizza to be made, but by the time we were served our food we had been there over 2 hours! Not to mention when we our food arrived we had to go get our own silverware because our waitress was no where to be found and the hostess didn't give us any when we were seated. The food was decent, but we most certainly will not be going back any time soon due to poor service! read more

Went to celebrate an event with family and friends-we were seated outside, towards the end of our meal, staff brought in a corn hole game. There were 8 staff members yelling, throwing beanbags and drinking beer 10 feet from our table while we were trying to eat and socialize with friends. This is not the first time service has been terrible. VERY disappointing. Will not be going back. read more

I love the food here! It is really, really good. The starters - particularly the spinach and artichoke dip is my favorite. Also, the pizza is excellent and the crust almost reminds me of Olive Garden's delicious bread sticks. It's definitely worth the trip to check out Mellow Mushroom! read more

I actually think this restaurant deserves 0 stars. The service, and quality of food was fine. The problem that makes the food and the service not relevant is the management or higher up. Somethings needs to be done to save this restaurant. Waited over and hour and a half for my food this weekend. It wasn't until I looked up into the kitchen when I realized there were only FOUR PEOPLE MAKING PIZZAS. On a weekend night. ARE YOU KIDDING????? I recognized one of them as the manger which would explain why I was unable to speak to one. Because he was busting his butt in the kitchen. I understand things happen. But hire more freakin people or don't let customers sit down. The restaurant was completely full. That's four people making an entire restaurants pizza. Something needs to be done. Customers notice when there isn't enough staff. The server apologized and explained the situation but that didn't make it right. read more

I ordered my first pizza from Mellow Mushroom the Gourmet White pizza. This crust was like chewing a piece of rubber. I dont know whats up with it but I will stick to regular crust. The pizza itself was so salty that it was almost inetible and I was extemely shocked by how horrible it was. the Feta was way overboard. I mean the pizza has more than one cheese but you couldnt tell by the overwhelming Feta on it.I am a pizza junkie but I could barely even eat half of one piece and I threw the rest away. I dont know if the crust was like rubber because of it being gluten free but it is rubbery.I definatelty would not order from them again. I think I will stick to Dominos. Dominos is far better and very affordable. I guess one has to go there to try it for their self but to me it is not worth it and over priced. Want be buying anymore pizza from them. This is not a hate thing it is a truth thing. read more

I have been to many Mellow Mushrooms across the Southeast. I have had dinner more at the Hickory, NC location (My local one). We typically eat there multiple times a month on Sunday evenings with friends. We arrived tonight at 6:15 and were told for a party of 10 it would be 15 minutes. That was fine but after patiently waiting we began to question what was taking so long. Well, at 7:00 we questioned why we were still waiting for a table. We were told it would be a "long wait". We asked to be split into a couple of booths only to be told "oh, I'm sorry I forgot I told you that-- 3 minutes ago 5 that I could split your group however I just sat two people in one of the booths." That booth could have accommodated 6 comfortably. Ok, so then we asked if we could be seated on the deck in the heat because we had already waited 1 hour and the kids were very hungry. We were finally seated out on the patio which had only one other table of 4 out there. The waitress did a good job. From the hostess, bartender, waitress, and manager I talked with, they all knew we were not happy with the wait and lies we were told. (Yes-- lies that we were told is how I feel) So, when the bill came we questioned it. We arrived at 6 and were paying at 8:30ish. The issue I have is the owner of the franchise was very rude to us when she came to the table. We did not expect the meal for free, but we did expect a discount or at least a sincere apology. We would have paid the entire bill but the "owner" stormed away from our table after exploding in anger. She then sent our waitress back to our table to give us our bill which was paid for. We then gave our waitress a 30% tip in cash. I guess the biggest issue I have is when the owner walked by our table she made the comment "Thanks for tipping MY waitress" it was not what she said it was how she said it. She was very degrading to us. I will not forget her, and I will not be back to any Mellow Mushroom for a long time, especially the Hickory, N.C. location. read more
