Food was good which is the only reason for 3 stars. With no reservation was told it would be better to come on a weekday but you can order at bar if seats are open. Greeted at bar (without eye contact) with "you'll just have to wait". Then two sets of people walking up to bar after us got served. Person finally asked what we wanted to drink - didn't have ingredients to make a common drink. Went back to hostess stand to wait for a table rather than continue with the over stressed bartender. Much shorter time than told to get a table. A plus! Waitress new and unfamiliar with menu and admitted before we left, new to Italian food. There was more that went wrong but being new I have to give her a pass. But, as far as kitchen goes, I ordered veal piccata. What I got was veal (excellent veal) with mushrooms and capers in light brown sauce. It was good, just not classic piccata sauce w/lemon/butter/wine. Caprese appetizer excellent. Shrimp FraDiavolo was excellent, perfect amount of spice. Advice- order from the menu parts that spell out what is in the dish - I ordered from the "pick one" section where you choose meat/ pasta/ sauce separately. And one last note- ladies bathroom is an embarrassment, needs repair/renovation. read more

This Italian restaurant might not have served the best Italian food I've ever had, but the food was still pretty good. The menu, however, was extremely confusing to read. The food prices weren't excessively high, but they weren't cheap either. The service was okay, but it could definitely be improved. The ambiance was decent, with great music and artwork. Da Vinci's makes the best Caesar Salad in Hickory for a great price. I always order it with Blackened Chicken which comes with a generous portion. The Cheese Pizza is also my favorite - I do not order just Cheese from any other restaurant. I get take out here on a regular basis because of the convenience & reasonable prices. It's so convenient because there is a separate door & area for pick up orders so you do not have to walk through the dining area to get your order. The service is always wonderful & consistent. Orders are checked before being handed out & the guys at the counter are so personable & welcoming. Although I usually order take out, the dining area is a great place for a date night or small group outing. Great atmosphere, incredible food, good service! We will be back, because this is a gem! When you walk in, you get the feeling of a small town Italian place, but don't let the nostalgic atmosphere trick you, this isn't like any small town Italian place I went to growing up. We had a large group (25+) make a reservation for a private room, and the service was excellent. It was on a Friday night, and they had a singer in the bar area that created a nice atmosphere. This is the best Italian restaurant for miles around. Our friend says that the eggplant parmigiana is the best that he has ever had. My antipasto salad was excellent. If you're looking for an authentic Italian cuisine, this is the place to come! While the staff isn't incredibly friendly the food sells itself. You can choose from an array of pastas and sauces, pizzas, subs, calzones or build your own salad! My personal favorite is a blackened chicken Caesar salad and an individual pepperoni or cheese pizza. Prices are pretty good considering the amount of food you get in a serving. They bring out warm baked bread with a Balsamic & Oil dipping sauce. The place is very relaxing and a little upscale great for a romantic date. A lovely space with a classic Italian feel. The service was outstanding! It was high end but comfortable and not fussy. The food was amazing. We started with the fresh bread and oil, which was a treat. We had the bruschetta as an appetizer and it was made perfectly. My family of four each tried something different and everyone enjoyed what they got. I tried the Devinci's special of chicken covered with mozzarella cheese and angle hair with a vodka pink sauce. The sauce was SO good!! My daughter said the baked ziti was fantastic. My son had his favorite, chicken Alfredo and enjoyed every bite. My husband tried the pizza and he is very judgmental about pizza, but said this was an 8 /10. We had two desserts, a crème brûlée cheesecake and terramasu, both were excellent. We were celebrating a birthday and the waiter brought a mini cannoli for the birthday girl. It was quiet and a sweet touch, no clapping or singing! I would definitely recommend going there. Sam was amazing as our waiter. He is the main reason for the four stars! The sangria was good too. Service was top notch. Food was okay. Menu was different than what's online and they were able to make some of the dishes that we wanted not on the menu. Now to why I took off one star. No fresh cracked pepper or parmesan was offered. When we asked for Parmesan we were brought a shaker that has that gross store bought Parmesan. My husbands chicken Alfredo was good but didn't really have any chicken in it. Tiny pieces of chicken was tossed in. We ordered tiramisu and it came out with chocolate sauce, which is not typically done in my experience. Sam was quick to bring me one without and it was great but I do feel they should ask if you would like the sauce or not. My cousin got the cheesecake and it was delicious. And her husband got the Lemon cello cake and it was good. Even though there was some areas we think could use some improvement it's out opinions and we would still come back but would be more specific when we ordered. read more

Oh how I love this hidden gem in Hickory! We've been going to Da Vinci's for years and it is consistent in quality of ingredients, flavorful food, and gracious service. I've tried pasta dishes, chicken dishes, salads and calzones. All absolutely delicious. Go for lunch to enjoy a lunch menu full of delicious dishes in generous lunch-sized portions for a smaller price. I've never had a bad dish here, but the shrimp parmesan is among my favorite dishes. The salad with their creamy Italian dressing is so good, I dream about it. Can't recommend this enough! read more

An elegant evening with fine food and good conversations with friends. Been in the mood for Veal recently and I remembered going to Da Vinci's in Hickory a number of years ago so we gave it a try. Excellent menu although the number of Veal Choices is not as great as on the online menu (6 vs 16) but a lot more than most restaurants. Elegant facility tastefully done with contrasts of black and white. The room we were in even had a fireplace and on this cold and windy night, had a great warming effect if only psychologically. Our server was excellent. Very attentive young lady who we discovered was originally from Belarus. We did not want for anything the entire evening. Since it was cold outside, we stuck with Coffee. First cup was bitter but they made a fresh pot and it was excellent being strong and robust and enjoyable the rest of the evening. The have a very extensive wine list however for those oenophiles among us. Started out with a Caprese salad that was excellent, The basil and balsamic were a perfect contrast to the tomato and was a good way to start the meal. Both my friend and I ordered the Veal Chop and both ordered Capellini. My friend had the Alfredo Sauce which I stuck with the basic Marinara Red Sauce. If ordered Medium Rare and it was a perfect medium rare. My friend order medium well and it was perfect and what was interesting that to get both orders out at the same time, they butterflied her chop. Good kitchen skills on the part of the chef. Second time here and it will be my last. On my first visit a few weeks ago, they added our bar drinks (while waiting for our table) to the dinner tab stating we didn't pay for them... and requested to see the receipt (very inappropriate and embarrassing in the middle of the dining room). After realizing their mistake they remove them from the tab but with no apology of any type... just excuses of why it happened. The waiter also make an off-color joke that was not appropriate at that moment. My recent visit, I ordered a Scallops and Shrimp dish (daily special) which was a bit pricey. The plate came without any scallops (which I thought was why the price was as high as it was). I did not mention it to the waiter as I knew at that time it would be my last visit here. The flavor of food on the first visit was ok but not anything special... my plate on the second visit was kind of bland. Service was a bit slow both visits but considering the current help issues, and the fact we were in no hurry, is wasn't an issue. Although they did apologize for the slow service stating the standard "we are short help" excuse but that does not explain their unprofessionalism or why they can't bill correctly or fill an accurate order. read more

We've been here about a dozen times one last year. We really enjoyed it! Last few times not so much. Went there for lunch and ordered right away. It took over 30 minutes to get our food. (His Italian sub and my pasta seafood special). I asked about the special and was told it was for dinner but they could do it. He though cost was $23. I thought that was high but ultimately got it. It was good. Not great. $28 Was told that he only thought it was $23. Asked by owner/cook) how it was. I said the zucchini was mushy/overcooked. He told me it gets soft when you cook it. Of course it does! But you don't need to overcook it. Bottom line - we both agreed that Carrabas would have given us better food and larger portions. Oh well. Oh yeah. This is the place to be. I had no clue about the place but if you're around you NEED to try it. I'm just in awe. The scenery is beautiful. Everything is well put together and feels fancy.
