Came here today for an early dinner, so it wasn't busy at all. Staff was courteous, friendly, and respectful. And they can be gluten-free! Bonus, if you're on any primal/paleo diet :) We ordered: -Chicken wings in Jerk sauce: I wanted to tried the jerk sauce here because the only other time I've had jerk is at Buffalo Wild Wings, and I was sorely disappointed with the BWW sauce. One waiter described it as "tamarind and black pepper." Well, I love tamarind and it's sourness, so can't go wrong. The wings came out delicious! They were piping hot and covered in this delicious jerk sauce. Mmmm... I'm drooling thinking about them! I would totally come back here just for these wings. -Buffalo Chicken pizza (gluten free aka thin crust): This pizza was disappointing compared to the wings. Maybe it was because my mouth was already flaming from the wings, but this pizza was so, so dry. It didn't taste like anything either. Definitely did not taste like a pizza. My bf claimed it tasted like "an open-faced sandwich." I thought it tasted like chicken and cheese with some buffalo sauce on crackers. Disappointing. I was EXTREMELY thirsty after this meal too. There was either a lot of salt or msg, and I'm guessing it's the former. Either way, not a good sign... I'll be back though, next time I'm in Raleigh, and maybe I'll have better luck with another kind of pizza :) Recommended! read more

Food was amazing! Katie the hostess was a rockstar she handled the pre game crowd like a pro. Made us and all the customers feel important and valued even though there was a wait. It was so worth it. This was my first visit to this location. There were only two or three other tables at the time we went (it was around dinner time). The seating area was clean. The room was dimly lit and there were plenty of tvs showing different games. The waitress was friendly and helpful. My friends and I each ordered a different pizza. I asked the waitress to surprise me and she brought out a Cesar salad pizza. It was definitely interesting and the first time I've had a pizza of that kind. It was pretty good. Not sure if I would order it again though. Dessert was really good. We shared a psychedelic cookie. All the food came out in an acceptable amount of time (although not as quickly as I expected from it being so quiet). Server literally just dumped the food on the table rather than asking anyone who ordered what. The food took over 45 mins to get to our table and when it finally came it came in pieces and they still forgot most of it which we had to further wait for. Took 15 mins to get our drinks (and that was after the wait for them to bring us the drink menus) The food was good it was just a shame the staff were so disorganized, and didn't help the sever was extremely rude. read more

Who doesn't love Mellow Mushroom?!?! This particular one has a great location just next to a parking garage that's free for two hours, and also convenient to all of the shops in the complex. As an out-of-towner it was kind of hard for me to find until I saw the mushroom sculpture. Just know that it's on the very end. The service at this place was average and the pizza was fantastic as always. We sat near the bar and had no trouble with food, drinks, or conversation. I've had varying experiences at different Mellow Mushrooms, but this one was a very good experience. Highly recommend! read more

Great, great pizza. Toppings were good and plentiful. Crust was perfect. This was among the top 5 pizzas I've ever had. Prices are a little higher than most pizza joints, but you get what you pay for. Really, the only negative we had was that the child's high chair strap was broken. Generally a decent name in the pizza chain industry. Usually if I cannot find a local spot with good pizza I'll go to mellow we'll before delivery. Everything was average the pizza was lacking flavor, the garlic bread was flavorless and greasy. This doesn't seem to be the norm for mellow but this location wasn't in their game that night. read more

Enjoy their pizza but they need to do some housekeeping. 1/4 inch of dust on top giant mushroom above booth when you walk into main entrance. Also all HVAC registers are covered in dust that could float down on your food throughout the restaurant. read more

I've been to this location probably a dozen times or more, and I always enjoy it. This past Friday night was no exception. My husband and I arrived a little after 7pm and there was a 20 minute wait. I like that the hostess takes your phone number and texts you when your table is ready; it cuts down on a lot of the commotion and noise and you can easily see how many tables are in front of you. I think our wait ended up being closer to 15 minutes, which wasn't bad at all for a Friday evening, especially when there was also a DPAC event going on. My husband later commented on what a nice crowd there was there, how it felt like a good representation of Durham, with lots of different races and ages together. We were seated in the back of the restaurant, near the bar. Service was pretty good at first, but our waitress became MIA once the food arrived. I think that bartenders service those back tables, so I realize she was also busy with the bar, but it would have been nice to have drinks refilled without us having to leave our seats. Anyway, we ordered two small pizzas - the Pacific Rim (minus jalapeno) and the Mel Corleone. Both were great! I love the flavor of the dough, which I think has the right amount of chewiness, and their pizza sauce is robust and not too sweet. I really liked the ham and carmalized onions on the Pacific Rim. Other favorite menu items are their magic mushroom soup and the Mighty Meaty pizza. The pizza is pretty yummy reheated for lunch the next day, too! read more

Went on a casual date here on a Monday night and was very pleased! My boyfriend loved their beer selection, which was a nice start to the evening-- he enjoyed the Duck Rabbit Milk Stout. We ordered the Mighty Meaty and it came out very quickly and very deliciously. I highly recommend it, especially if you like bacon (whole strips on pizza? yes please!). Our waitress was really pleasant and attentive, and it was a really nice experience! Note: I've been to several MMs throughout NC and this one definitely sticks out as being less chill/divey and more bougie. Not bad or good, just interesting to note. Wanted to go to Mellow Mushroom 6:15PM on June 25th before a Durham Bulls game. To our dismay, we were met with so many dirty tables outside we started to turn around. However in the past the food's been so good that we decided to go inside. Inside was a little better but no one greeted us to take us to a seat. We left to go to Tylers. Hoagies are great, pizza is less fantastic than it used to be. This location has an unfortunate habit of allowing streams of people exiting the Durham Bulls games to waltz right across the outside patio, right by your table. Pretty distracting from a meal and time with friends. Under new ownership, ther is no more soy cheese so vegans can't enjoy Mellow Mushroom pizza anymore, which is unfortunate. Food is always delicious with a variety of fun, flavorful interesting specialty pizzas. I've never tried one I didn't love. My daughter and I went yesterday and had an issue with an old Groupon. It wasn't MM's fault at all, but the manager took care of it. That's good business!! Service isn't always super speedy, but servers are always friendly and I enjoy the atmosphere, so it doesn't bother me to wait a little longer. Love this place! read more

The food was great but it would have been better if it was still warm when it got to our table. Our server spent the majority of her time flirting with one of the cooks to the point where we saw our food just sitting in the window getting cold. Mind you, our food is getting cold in the window and she hadn't even brought our drinks out due to the fact that she was soooo busy entertaining one of the cooks. We had to stop another server that was walking by and ask if she could bring our food out since we were watching it in the window. When our server finally appeared we respectfully asked for our drinks but she seemed so bothered by us. It's very unfortunate because my fiancé and I met working in the restaurant industry while in college. We respect our servers so much especially now that they are on the frontlines like we are as healthcare workers. On this particular night we were doing the "tip the bill" challenge to help out our server due to the hard times with covid. However, she didn't deserve a thing but we still tipped her the per usual 20%. I can't express how disappointing this service was. The wait wasn't bad for a busy Saturday night before an event at Dpac. About 20-25 minutes. We got to our table and was greeted by Paige! She was amazing! So friendly and awesome at suggestions. Pizza was tasty and price wasn't too bad. Service was a little slow, but overall we were pleased. I really liked the vibe of this place. The decor is really cool and the hostess was pleasant. We didn't have to wait long for a table even though we went on a friday night. Our friendly waitress dropped our drinks off and we ordered our pizzas. The choice of pizza itself was vast and I was a little surprised but their toppings were quite interesting. The crust was great, a nice middle ground between thin new york crust and chicago deep dish. And we had plenty of left overs for the next day! I left mellow mushroom stuffed and happy. So happy to get some decent gluten-free and celiac safe pizza! Make sure to tell them if you have an allergy so they give you a CC safe plate. For you lucky gluten eaters, I used to eat giant calzones and pretzels here and they were always delicious. I've had issues on different days with super slow service (45 mins for a sandwich?), but other times they are just fine. They also have a server or two who seems to be having a perpetually bad day and this can really ruin your dining experience and turn what should take an hour into two or three... My husband and I have been to a couple different locations so we aren't new to it. The food here was delicious and cooked perfectly. What made this experience so much better was our server Ryan. He was outgoing and friendly. He brought us refills without us even having to ask. There was a perfect amount of time between his check-ins with us as well. This was a tough one for me. I typically enjoy Mellow Mushroom for their food and selection of spirits. Plus, this location is near me and convenient to the DBAP and DPAC. First, the food was great. Some old friends from out of town and I gathered to grab some food and drinks before they headed back home. I had the Italian sandwich on french bread that I really enjoyed and would definitely order again. It comes with a lot of lettuce so I had to pull a little off to suit my taste. My buddy got the classic calzone and it looked amazing and tasted great according to him. It was a little busy because of a Bulls game across the street, but we were still seated quickly and service was prompt. Kind of surprised how attentive she was considering the pregame rush. The only thing that was slow was how long it took for drinks to arrive. May want to order a refill before you get to the bottom of your glass to give them some time on game nights. Here's where it took a turn and why I have to give them only one star for now. I ordered a bourbon on the rocks after dinner while my friends and I were still catching up. First, it comes out neat rather than on the rocks as ordered. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise. After a sip or two I look down and notice a few foreign objects in my glass. I look closer and realize it appears to be fruit flies. Upon notifying the waitress she takes it back to the bar and returns to me to explain that the bottle they poured from had to be thrown away because it was full of flies. Disgusting! She was nice about it and even asked if I wanted something else, but I would have thought that management would have at least addressed this with us, comped the drink, or at minimum apologized - just some type of acknowledgement from someone in charge and responsible for this. It's one of those things that happens at the end of a meal and just makes you wonder and cringe about the food safety, cleanliness, food prep, and overall hygienic practices that are in place and what may have been blindly consumed before that. I like the MM in Raleigh but have never been to the Durham one when there wasn't a problem. Pizza burned. Pizza lost. Pizza wrong. And it's overpriced (hello! pizza!) Highlight and last visit EVER EVER was the night we were asked to leave the outside, sidewalk, not-enclosed seating area because our dog was asleep under the table. Next to us a 3 year old was standing on the table LICKING THE TOP OF THE CHEESE SHAKER. Waiter looked, saw, said he didn't care about that but we had to leave. Then lied with some made-up rule about the complex not allowing pets. We walked the 50 feet up to Tyler's Taproom, in the same complex, where they ...brought the dog a bowl of water. Again: doesn't matter since Mellow Mushroom is so badly run and the food is so bad. Go to Tyler's. read more

It is hard to find pizza this good, especially at this price. The quality of ingredients is good, the crust is terrific, and the suggested pizzas on the menu are unconventional but tasty. Being a vegan, I'm always concerned about a pizza joint because I cannot always find a vegan dish; however, the great server pointed out the vegetarian and vegan page on the menu. Besides having a vegan sandwich, I could build my own pizza to include vegan cheese. Although the wait was longer than I would have liked, it was well worth it.
