Since I wasn't sure about ordering a whole pizza for myself I was glad to see that they had several salads all which come in a smaller size. I tried out the tortilla soup and it was AMAZING! Even though it's a chain, the Mellow Mushroom fits right in with Denton's laid-back vibe. I liked the decor, especially the booths draped with fabric that offered a bit more privacy from the room. The menu includes salads, hoagies and calzones, but the big draw seems to be pizza. It's a good choice, with a golden, crisp, bubbly crust, They offer a broad array of pre-created pizzas, or you can create your own. I went with the Mellowterranean, which included feta and mozzarella, onion, red bell pepper and chicken (I eschewed the black olives). A well-chosen amalgam of ingredients, though I might have left off the chicken, and again, that crust really carried the day! The 10" four-piece pizza is plenty for one person (or even two for lunch, depending on your appetite). Very good but it's really not a 4, it's more like 3.4. The dough is good but how they cook it the bottom tastes and has a very similar texture to cardboard. The staff is nice, full bar, nice booths. Was a chain with a not so chain feel but now, 100% feels like the overpriced Applebee's of the pizza world both in service and quality of both food and dining areas. COVID has hit the service industry hugely but I can't imagine that if this place's ownership was compensating and training their staff correctly, they'd have such a paid poor business. I don't blame the servers. They are working understaffed and underpaid and it's gotta be hard for experienced and hardworking servers working in shit conditions with shit wages with SO MUCH TURNOVER working with a crew of new hires who could care less about putting any effort in. So these servers bust their ass, the other servers give zero fucks, the owners don't care enough to pay their people enough to draw and retain quality people, and you show up in the middle of this dumpster fire, wait a million years to get service at dirty tables that no one finished bussing/wiping down, and then you pay for your way overpriced pizza. The bartender yelled at the trivia night leader because their system was not working. That is not how to treat someone who is there as aoart of the team. Now the bartender his name is Mason has said "this is their responsibility not ours so don't waste your time trying to figure it out for them" when the girl manager was trying to help with the house mic. Dining in experience was below average. Customer service was not professional at all. I made my order for food, and before taking my first bite of my pizza the check was offered to me. Then I was asked to have a to go box within my first 10 minutes of arrival. I clearly said I wanted to dine in, however all the other clients were not given the same service. Came here on a Wednesday night with some friends. Plenty of booths were available and not packed at all. We decided to split a large specialty pizza among us five. We got half the pizza as buffalo chicken and the other half was great white. The large pizza was huge! And both the flavors were so good. They did have some distinct tastes though. Like on the buffalo chicken there were caramelized onions which some of my friends did not enjoy. And on the great white pizza there was an excessive amount of onions. All in all I enjoyed both flavors and would love to come back and try more. I would definitely recommend splitting the pizza among you and your friends because it is more worth it. The waitress warned us that the pizza would take around 25 minutes since they make them a different way than other places do. We were all very hungry so we decided to get cheesy bread. This pizza was out of this world delicious! It's the best crust I have ever had. I am seriously picky with pizza (don't enjoy Pizza Hut, Dominos, Papa Johns, and the like) so this was a lovely step out of the ordinary. Great variety of options or build your own pizza, a good personal sized pizza that is perfect for one, and a bunch of yummy looking sides I look forward to trying in the future. A little pricier than some pizza places but I will pay it any day of he week for the quality this place has. We used to love mellow mushroom but haven't been there for a few months due to "stay at home" orders. Just picked up a medium specialty pizza and it is seriously the worst pizza we have ever had. It only had about 1/3 of the normal amount of toppings bunched up right in the middle and the rest was void of toppings. The Bottom of the crust was burned. The pizza tastes terrible. See photos. Mellow Mushroom probably up there as one the best pizza place in Denton! I've been coming here for a while now and have gotten a chance to try different items on the menu! First off, I love their variety of specialty pizzas. It helps a lot if you don't want to make your own. My favorite pizzas that I have tried so far are the Maui Wowie, the Thai Dye, and Holy Shittake. I also do love the buffalo chicken and the mighty meat (not sure if I have tried the Funky chicken, next on the list!) I think the main reason I love mellow mushroom is because I think their pizzas are so different from the others. It's not just regular pizza but it has a twist and I love that. The pizzas offer different flavors from other great ethnic food cuisines. Like the Thai Dye really has that Asian kick to it. The Holy Shittake is awesome too and I am not a huge vegetarian fan, but man this one is a must try. They do have solid appetizers too, but I always come back for the pizza. The pizzas are expensive in theory but you can split almost 1 pizza with like 3-4 people (let's say 3 to be safe) the pizzas are also made with a different type of dough then other pizzas spots (a mellow mushroom recipe I believe) and it helps you get full faster but also healthier then other dough. The restaurant has a great set up as well and the vibe fits denton well. The waiters/waitress that I've had over my visits there all have been super great and helpful. My group would also order a crap load of ranch and they would never complain or look frustrated to bring over like 10 ranches lol. Refill waters really quickly too. Especially since we had a big group we would most of the time split all the pizzas and so MM staff would always be able to accommodate that! My feelings on this shop are complicated. They offer gluten free/dairy free pizza which is like mind blowing to me. I really enjoyed my food but the girl who worked there didn't seem to know very much about them. She had a hard time answering my questions and was pretty confusing/confused at times. I think she needs more training or shouldn't be answering the phones yet. On top of that the amount of toppings are not great. It's like almost $2 per topping but it is almost nothing. My pizza had less than seven pepperonis and like a thimble full of sausage. As well the crust was kind of under-cooked. I think maybe 3-5 more minutes and it would have been great. This place has great food and my boyfriend loves this place but every time I'm here it's always bad service. The last three times I've been here we have had to request for someone to serve us. But I was not impressed the "pretzel" bites, they were simply small snips of the crust used for the pizza that were cooked and coated in parmesan cheese, and served with beer cheese that I wasn't a fan of either. The crust is way flavorful and they offer many options and customizations for their pizzas as well as alternatives for anyone who isn't in a pizza mood.
