Had been craving some good pizza for a while and finally opted to give Mellow Mushroom a try. It had been years since I've set foot in this place so I was a little skeptical but boy was I pleasantly surprised. Looks like they've renovated a bit since I've been here. The aesthetic is funky and vibrant. I was seated downstairs within seconds upon arrival. Now, I will say it was a slow night as there were maybe 7-8 people eating at the time but the wait staff was friendly and attentive. The pizza was made to order so it took a little time but I definitely don't mind waiting for food that's made to order. There was a slight wait on a Friday night, but that's to be expected. Our waiter Jeremywas outstanding! We wanted a small salad, but only the big salads had much variety. So I got a basic salad and it was nice and fresh. We got a pepperoni and sausage pizza and it was excellent. We stopped here after moving our son out of the dorms at USC. They were not particularly busy but we were told there would be a 10-15 min wait. There were several open tables on the ground floor but either needed bussing or wiping down. The host did not seem to be in any hurry to greet or seat. Our waitress Kelly was great. She was not only super helpful and patient but also managed to get every order right with a smile. Gali kept us posted about the wait time and when to expect our food which is always helpful when out with a large group. Her recommendations, especially the Thai wings, were on point. I ordered two pizzas to go from the bar. Waited an hour and 20 min for the pizzas, only to wait 10 more min for pesto that they apparently didn't have. When I ordered I made the bartender aware of my allergies (celiac and lactose intolerant) and ordered a gluten free pizza with vegan cheese. I also made sure to ask for them not do the butter and parmesan spread due to cross contamination. When I got the pizza I confirmed it was gluten free with vegan cheese. I have been here many times and never had a reaction, but upon eating this pizza I got so sick. After looking back at the photo of the pizza it was not vegan cheese but regular mozzarella. I checked the order ticket to confirm she had rang it in correctly and she did not (she put mozzarella). I called the store and said straight away I wasn't looking for a refund or free food but was concerned that their staff had not been trained properly. When I explained what had happened the managers response was "ok?" and was not helpful. He ended the call with "sorry for the inconvenience" and hung up on me. Probably will not be returning for a while. Service was mediocre and management showed they don't care about those with allergies. My friend (a prior employee) said when i called her that they have a video training but are not ever properly taught how to handle allergies. She said that management often complains about those with allergies, especially the BOH manager and FOH manager. She also said they hardly adhere to allergy guidelines and recommended I never return. What a stellar safe, polite, and efficient curb side service at this Mellow Mushroom restaurant! You can park safely for free at the back of the restaurant thanks to their dedicated parking lot. This Mellow Mushroom restaurant is located a short drive from the South Carolina state house and a cathedral. Both pizzas were just freshly made and still warm from the oven. I ordered the pizzas online on their easy to navigate website and drove afterwards to pick them up at their Mellow Mushroom restaurant. When I parked the car on their dedicated parking lot, I gave a call to their receptionist. A staff member wearing a face mask kindly put both pizzas on the hood of my car immediately. Both large pizzas were delicious, filled generously with fresh and tasty ingredients. Their warm crusts were pillowy and satisfying. The plant-based high-protein large pizza with tempeh, mushrooms, spinach, red sauce, no cheese, no butter, and no dairy was so good! I ate four slices in one setting... The large indulgent pizza bacon, mushrooms, and cheese was full of flavor.
