Inconsistent! I have been eating at this restaurant once a week for several weeks. i always get a thin crust Holy Shitake. Sometimes it is great, but sometimes not. One time it was so overcooked my server recommended sending it back. Today I would have sent it back if I hadn't had an appointment to keep. It was just this side of burnt, and only had toppings on about half the pizza. I'll be giving this place a miss for a while. read more

The food here has always been great. However, service is severely lacking. On three separate occasions I have had to wait for a pickup order while watching servers and several back-of-house employees chat right in front of me. Also, be wary of the girl with the pixie cut and piercings that works here. She will not hesitate to pull the wool over your eyes if you're negligent with your tab/tips. read more

It's your standard Mellow Mushroom. I'd give it four stars, but we often get burnt pizza at this location. We generally enjoy many items, such as pizzas (including gluten free), salads, apps, etc. The cocktail menu could be more inventive, and the bartenders could be more willing to make adjustments when asked. The wait staff is usually friendly and quick. The eclectic decor is humorous and a bit wacky giving it the Mellow Mushroom vibe. Oddly, it's a family friendly place...with a theme that wouldn't normally be considered family friendly if you catch my drift. I do love to eat Pizza and love the fact that you can get beer here and it is a sit down restaurant vs. most pizza chains that are take out. However, the Pizza is decent and I actually prefer Hungry Howey's or Papa Johns. They do have gluten free pizza which is a major plus for one of my kids, so if this is important to you then give it a try. read more

This is our second visit to this location. The service was excellent on both visits and we appreciate the decent beer offerings and lively surroundings. On our first visit, we shared the Mighty Meaty pizza and on our second visit, we shared a Caesar salad - which had the perfect amount of dressing, my sweetheart had a House Special pizza, which he devoured and I ordered a House calzone with added sausage and pepperoni. The fillings in the calzone were delish, but the calzone crust itself was a very light colour and doughy, as if it were under baked. I brought the calzone home and just reheated it in the convection oven for lunch. The crust browned nicely and was a bit more tasty, but leads me to believe the original dough was not risen properly. Incorrigible Service. We placed the order at 5:45 and were informed that the pizza would be ready in 45 minutes. It is 8:15 pm and no sign of food. It is COVID-19 time and my daughter has been waiting outside for close to two hours. They will not pick up the phone either. Their reasoning for the delay - "we got a huge backlog". They knew their orders on hand at 5:45 when we placed it. 3 hours delay is unfathomable. Pretty sure when we get the Pizza it is going to be awful and cold. NEVER AGAIN!! read more

Wow, so disappointing. Place was busy, but by no means crazy . We were seated and after ordering our server informed us the kitchen was running 35 minutes for pizza. Maybe he should have mentioned that before we ordered in case we were pressed for time ? A full 57 minutes later , our food arrived . Of course two of the orders were wrong, but who had time to wait for what we ordered ? If you can't get it right in 57 minutes , you don't get 90 minutes to try again . During our 1 hour wait we had to practically tap our server in the shoulder to ask for drink refills . Most places go out of their way to make you happy when you wait an hour for pizza, not here . After another15 minutes waiting for our server to take my credit card we finally escaped. Poor experience all around, owner / operator was in the dining room the whole time we were there, never approached us . I think this place knows they have the market cornered here and have stopped trying . As long as people line up and wait, why bother trying . Don't order from these guys EVER. I was given the wrong pizza with an ingredient that I am highly allergic to - Mushrooms. I called to let them know that they gave me the wrong pizza after multiple holds and then being hung up on three times- the phone started going straight to voicemails which you could not leave a message. We came here for free trivia night on Wednesday and had a great time. The trivia was very challenging but we did win 3rd place. The bartender was excellent and took care of many tables with ease. The only reason I am marking them down a star is because their pizza was NOT AT ALL good. It was thin crust and the sauce tasted cheap and spicy. My spinach artichoke dip was awesome. Was feeling lazy today and wanted to stay in with a nice hot pizza. So I decided to order the best pizza in town though Postmates (only option so far to get delivery from Mellow Mushroom). Received a notification in about 20 minutes saying the driver was on the way to the restaurant to pick up my order. Sweet, awesome my fantasy night was all coming together! Or so I thought... Nearly an hour later I check the Postmates app and the driver is on the other side of town. I send a message to the driver asking if everything's okay. Received my worst fear, Hey, sorry don't feel like delivering and I don't know how to cancel on my end! I was mortified to say the least. My romantic evening with a fresh hot medium cheese pizza was falling apart before my very eyes!!! I relaxed and composed my self I was not going to let this ruin my fantasy evening! I rang up Postmates support and they kindly provided my with a new driver! Finally back on track!! But my series or unfortunate events had just begun... 10 minutes later I receive the foretold notification that my driver was arriving my beloved medium cheese!! Another 5 minutes go by with no word. Then finally receive a notification that my pizza had been delivered. Confusion ran over me!? Had I gotten my pizza and scarfed it down in a rage of passion and blacked out forgetting the entire affair? I quickly went out side to see if I was mistaken. No driver and more disheartening no pizza. I phoned the restaurant unable to wait any longer to place a new order for pickup. I dashed over to the restaurant. And the staff at the Cart Mellow Mushroom were amazing and incredibly helpful. They paid for the pizza and a beer while I waited for a new pie to come out of the oven. Everyone was super friendly! I've now visited the new Cary Mellow Mushroom three times and haven't been disappointed once. The pizza is delicious. Also try the Tortilla Soup. Yummy! What has really blown me away is the consistently awesome service and highly visible manager (maybe owner?) every time I've been there. I went with a friend last weekend and we were there forever, catching up and enjoying our pizza. Our server was so patient and never rushed us at all. 99% of servers would have tried to drop off the bill thirty minutes into our meal as a not-so-subtle hint or just a desire to wrap things up on their end. I was incredibly impressed by the professionalism and understanding of our server. Again, every time we have been, we've had really great service. read more

Excited when they opened this location, since the Raleigh one is always busy. First - it is beautiful. They did a great job with the Chihuly like glass ceiling and the white walls. Having been going to Mellow Mushroom for years. We have eating at the one in Durham by the ball park and on Peace St but the one in Cary is by far our favorite. The staff is always great. The kids menu offers a great selection for all ages. The beer selection is great and there are plenty of strategically TVs for watching the game. As always the pizza is great. read more

AVOID THIS PLACE! Give them a few months until they work out the kinks. Service and food are a complete mess. They might be ready in December if they are still around. I should first say - I'm pretty forgiving with restaurants. It's a hard business. It's hard work. I get it. I usually cut places some slack. So I've been to both the MM off Glenwood in Raleigh, and the one in Durham at the ATC. Both great. Love the funky vibe, servers are very nice, awesome food. What is wrong with the Cary one? Everything. To start off with, came in and asked for outside seating - were told by the 3 vacant/clueless looking high school girls the wait was 15 mins. Grabbed a buzzer and went outside - there were 6 empty tables! No surprise - buzzer rings in 3 minutes. We come in, she asks if I'm someone else - then asks again where we wanted to sit. Huh? I just gave you the buzzer, look at the number and look on the list. Should be very simple. We're seated and wait for 10 minutes to get served. Strange because there are servers ALL OVER the place. I have no clue what they are doing. They look active, but nothing seems to be happening. After we order, my soup comes and it's cold. Then my pizza arrives and (as someone else said) it's a pile of toppings in the middle with 3 inches of crust. No kidding. Have the cooks never actually eaten a pizza or is this a new style I don't know about. By the way, our actual server - some guy - was VERY good, just slow. Around the end of the meal, a woman comes by introduces herself as the manager and asks how everything is. I'm looking at a table full of dirty dishes and she is fakely smiling - no attempt to pick anything up. I say "well, my wife needs a pizza box". She acts like it's *beneath her*. Five minutes later walks behind my wife and puts a too small box on the wall beside our table without a single word. (Again, not sure did I offend her by asking her to do something other than just chat up the customers??). Luckily our server saves the day again and offers a larger box :) Final straw: two personal pizzas, soup and a beer with tip $48. WTF? I should also say - if you are looking for the typical cool hip Mellow Mushroom, it's worth the drive downtown. The Cary one is typically bland, boring, strip mall "safe" (and I live in Cary, so I'm used to this - I wasn't expecting any better, and it met my expectations). My advice to the owner: seriously clean house with the kids that stare off into the distance, the "manager" that doesn't know what service means, and whip the kitchen into order. My advice to potential visitors: Do yourself a favor and go get a pizza at Biaggi's up the street. Much better service, much better food, and less money! Mellow Mushroom has redeemed themselves. After seeing this post and after writing to them I actually got a call from the store manager, Noah. He was apologetic and invited me in to "make it right". I went with friends, had a great lunch and really good service from Brian. Noah stopped by the table and apologized again for the not so great experiences and wanted to make sure we were having a good time and let us know that he has spoken with the staff. Now a week after this we went back to see if there was truly any changes and we did experience another good server, William. By their crowds at 3:00 in the afternoon this place will be a huge success despite the onslaught of pizza establishments cropping up over the past two years. Finally made it over to the Mellow Mushroom; usually it's packed on Fridays, but not too crowded on this particular Friday. Nice list of draft beers made for a tough choice in deciding which pint would accompany dinner -- a good problem to have. The house salad (with house dressing) was fine, a standard blend of lettuce with tomato and mushrooms. We ordered a sausage/pepperoni pizza as well as a white pizza -- wanted to sample a cross-section of their pies. The former pizza featured a nice tomato sauce and good toppings, a very good pie. The latter pizza was a specialty pizza, no tomato sauce (as expected), but not terribly memorable, a bit bland actually. Both pizzas were topped with parm, a nice touch...but the crust had a buttery taste (like buttered popcorn, if that's your thing, then you will love it) and were quite thick (therefore very filling). While there's no denying the popularity of the Mellow Mushroom, in my opinion, there's better pizza to be had in the area (thinking of Moonlight and Bella Mia), read more

The Pizza here is good, but a little bit too expensive for what you get. The quality and service is also inconsistent. Sometimes they forget a topping, sometimes they are stingy with toppings, and once we got a soggy Pizza. At times the employees have reacted to these issues with indifference rather than being proactive about resolving the situation. For example, one time our Mellowteranean Pizza arrived without the Tzatziki sauce. When asked about it the person shrugged their shoulders and stated "We ran out of it and don't know when we'll be making more because we don't have a spare person to make it" and nothing beyond that. I'm so glad Mellow Mushroom came to Cary. I love the Raleigh location with the fun plastic mushrooms, and the colorful outdoor seating, but this location is convenient for me. They don't have the crazy plastic mushrooms here, but the pizza is just as good. This new location has a huge outdoor seating patio, and is even bigger inside. The pizza pies are definitely some of the best in the area. I really love their house pizza and the magical mystery tour pies. A terrific place to gather a large group or the whole fam. The pizza was average at best. Not nearly enough sauce. Pizza without sauce is grilled cheese. Very doughy and while I liked the topping selection, it wasn't particularly flavorful. My 2nd trip here over the years. I was disappointed the 1st time and my 2nd was no different. This is what I call chi chi pizza. Like most pizza in the Triangle - not a hearty pie. Very little sauce, huge crusts (about 1/3 of the pie - if wanted bread I'd order it), void of garlic or any seasoning and tasteless Italian sausage. Ordered 3 toppings and they are hard to find per slice. I suppose you could do add ons to make it better (extra sauce, cheese for starters) but then cost goes way up for an already overprice pizza. K so....we had been to this location once before for lunch I was appalled at the foul language, loud and foul, from the wait staff as my then 3 1/2 year old was with us for an early lunch in the dining room. Fast forward to today. We were greeted by the hostess picking split ends out of her ponytail and she didn't bother to look up as she said "Welcome...how many" in a monotonous tone. Seated the waitress was nice, however HORRIBLE AT HER JOB. I requested my daughter's meal be put in first (hubbs and I still deciding). Her food was put in with ours. Drinks constantly empty. After the guys ran out our food, she stopped by to ask if everything came out okay. That was the last we saw of her. A manager got our boxes and I went to the to go counter to pay...30 minutes after our last interaction with her. The pizza was MEH the service HORRIBLE. This was our last visit. read more

So me and my friends (3 and we are older teens) come in and are told a 15 min wait. That's fine. A group of adults (4) come in and are seated right away. Then the hostess rudely tells us to sit at the high chairs near the bar without leading or giving much direction. Fine. We sit for a while and are given many stares and looks by the bartender, hostess, and waiters. We order and get our food with continuous stares. We eat and the food was great. It happened to be my friends birthday so we ask for the birthday pretzel. Two waiters come by to ask the same questions and giving looks like they don't believe it is her birthday. It then takes a bunch of time to get the checks, for them to be picked up, and to be brought back. This was a horrible impression and I'm very disappointed. read more
