This locations is right near the VT school. Our waitress was attentive and on point. The wings were good.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Cool space, not built for large parties; made the best by splitting up into 4 groups.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Friendly young server but required repeating ourselves several several times; had to ask for our checks 3 times too. Some in our party benefited with the vast beer menu via bar seating. Allagash white on draft (good craft wheatbeer from Maine) was a plus. Pizza was pretty good; I'd definitely go back if in the area, though would keep my group size small.

Honestly surprised with how bad the reviews are. Came here for a birthday celebration with a party of 15 and didn't even make a reservation, but had no issue at all getting a seat (this was a Wednesday, so I wouldn't try doing this on a weekend). Service was great - our orders were taken quickly and our food arrived quickly. As for the food, I was the only person who ended up getting a sandwich, as I can't eat pizza. However, everyone else seemed to like their pizzas and the pricing was super fair. My sandwich was pretty good too! My only complaint would be drink prices- cocktails here are very expensive.

Nothing, cus we still dont have the food

I've been to this place before for the pizzas during my time at VT and the pizzas are pretty good! They have various flavours and toppings for the pizzas which I really enjoy. The crusts of their pizzas are bland and doughy though, which may not matter for some people but I like eating crust so that's partially a let down. There were also dead bugs in our water but I lived through a lot of questionable things in my life to even care that there were dead bugs floating in our water. LOL. One thing I recommend NOT doing is going to Mellow during a game day... I went for homecoming at 5 pm and it was packed, but we were seated outside immediately, which I liked at first but immediately regretted after. It's always windy or some sort of cold in Blacksburg, so sitting outside was not the best idea, even if those were the only open seats. It was worse because the two pizzas we ordered took over an hour... so we were just sitting in the cold for an hour... I just don't recommend sitting outside in general in Blacksburg because things fly away or it just gets cold all of the sudden. Our waitress was very nice though. Staff definitely seemed overwhelmed at times but they're still friendly. I think the pizzas are reasonably priced for what they give you. This place is easily walkable to from campus and there's some downtown parking, although I'm not sure about parking rules.

Great food and great service. If you don't like mellow mushroom, you don't like unique and flavorful pizza. Downside, cost.

I tried the Fungus Among Us -- it was a little greasy, but that's to be expected with grilled cheese; overall, a tasty sandwich. I think where it really shines is the ambiance (note: I haven't been since February 2020, pre-COVID). The Milk Parlor has a really great casual, underground (literally) atmosphere, and they host lots of events during different nights of the week. They continued the tradition of Salsa Nights on Wednesdays that Sycamore Deli had, there are Comedy Nights every other week, and the occasional open mic. The events I've gone to have been really fun, and a cool way to meet and support others in the community. Would recommend if you want a chill environment, reasonably priced food/drinks, and good customer service.

Also will straight up ignore you and not serve you if she decides she doesn't like you. Get a real job if you don't want to bartend as a manager at YOUR understaffed bar.

They have the smoke and the foam and the cool-looking, Instagram-worthy drinks. Don't get it twisted, though: Twisted Liquid ain't cheap! But you're paying for professional bartenders creating creative beverages. You want to come here to impress a date, not get buzzed on Michelob Ultras. I visited strictly for a drink, so I didn't check out their food menu. But apparently, they do serve food here, mostly starters, snacks and small plates, but also a few mains. My love for gin is never-ending, much like my love for Lewis Carroll and Alice in Wonderland, so when I saw a drink called Painting the Roses Red, you know that's the one that I got. It is a white tea-infused gin with elderflower liqueur, Pinot Gris, lemon juice and rose water. A little ice rose came floating in the drink. It was so pretty, and pretty potent! I like when my adult drinks actually have alcohol in them, and mine certainly did. Our bartender was lovely and knew how to make a lot of drinks with a little flair for each one. I came with a group, and we all sat at the bar and had a wonderful time.

First, the menu was extremely limited for both food and drinks. While the cocktails were enjoyable, the food quality and portions did not come close to justifying the $300+ we spent. We ordered the shrimp and wagyu skewers expecting thoughtfully prepared dishes. Instead, the shrimp appeared comparable to pre-made shrimp cocktail shrimp placed on a stick rather than freshly grilled seafood. The wagyu skewer lacked the quality and presentation expected from a fine dining establishment and honestly tasted more like beef stroganoff without noodles. I also ordered the lobster bisque, which was served lukewarm and tasted as though it came from a can. The Caesar salad with smoked trout was acceptable, but the trout resembled salmon more than smoked trout, and the dressing tasted bottled rather than house-made. What made the experience more frustrating was the lack of transparency regarding the menu prior to the event reservation. For a restaurant that strictly enforces reservations and cancellation fees, customers reasonably expect a much higher level of quality, preparation, and overall dining experience. Our server was kind, attentive, and did their best throughout the evening, so I truly appreciate their effort. However, much of the remaining staff appeared stressed, overwhelmed, and unwelcoming, which added to the uncomfortable atmosphere. Overall, the experience felt far from the fine dining experience being advertised. The drinks were honestly the only standout part of the evening. I also have to mention that the food we received looked nothing like the photos posted online and in Google reviews. It genuinely made us wonder if there was an issue in the kitchen this evening, because the quality and execution were nowhere near what was being represented publicly. I sincerely hope this feedback is taken constructively because there is a significant disconnect between the pricing, expectations, and actual dining experience being delivered.

It was clean and maintained. It was a treat to meet the owner in front of the tavern tending to landscaping needs. The historic homes facade presents beautifully. There is also outdoor seating. Our party of seven enjoyed a Sunday brunch while knowing little about the establishment. We were promptly greeted with a smile and menus and seated on the front room. Each of the four interior rooms has a fireplace and nostalgic photos adorn the walls. They also have a small bar with a focus on bourbon. The menu had one hit after another with authentic Southern cooking. The description calls it a "Traditional Regional Farmers Menu."No question the fried chicken is the hero. Five out of seven got the fried chicken. Others the chili and meatloaf. A plate of biscuits and cornbread were placed on the table after drinks placed. The history of the tavern on the menu is worthy of your time. The owner, originally from Blacksburg moved from California to restore for his own home. Later opening the restaurant. His goal to keep the structure original and true to purpose as a tavern. The owner himself comes from a family of tavern proprietors. I digress too long! The FOOD ALREADY!!! Well as you have probably already guessed it was impressive and exceeded my expectations. Every main, every side was a home run. From the mash potatoes & gravy to the macaroni & cheese, backed apples and green beans, to the rarely found succotash. All fabulous! Only starter was ham biscuits which were good. Mains of chili and meatloaf strong. But it was the fried chicken that brings local and tourist alike in the door. The chicken was cooked up to perfection and deliciously moist The breading was exceptional as well with no dripping grease and a medium crispy finish. The only desert ordered was the brownie & ice-cream. So yummy! The owner Daniel checked in on us before departing which made our experience even more special. The Blacksburg Tavern is a Southwestern Virginia gem that's a must to dine at. Checkout was efficient and prices affordable for large quality dishes. I will return later this year and hope to catch live music. Highly recommend.

I was caught off guard when my friend walked up the stairs to the house because from initial appearance, I wouldn't have thought this was the restaurant! Upon walking in, the host greeted us and told us his name was Dan and that he was the owner of the restaurant! It was really cool to see that the owner is truly passionate about his restaurant and will show up to put in the work, even during the later hours. In terms of the food, I went with the Hungry Hokie which was a mashed potato bowl with with bits of meatloaf and chicken, green beans, macaroni and cheese. It also came with a biscuit or cornbread, I opted in with the cornbread. The food was absolutely hearty and had pretty good flavor! The one wish that I had was that it came in a bigger portion as it didn't fully fill me up. If I was in town again, I'd definitely consider going back to try the other items on the menu!
