This was our first time at this Mellow Mushroom location, and we were very pleased! The inside had the signature funky decor, with lots of seating on different levels in the restaurant. We ordered several different pizzas that were all tasty. I THINK mine was a Great White. It had mushrooms and garlic aioli. It was really good, but I did find the aioli a little overpowering. The appetizers and drinks are just as solid, making it hard to choose a favorite. The staff is friendly, attentive, and keeps everything running smoothly even when it's busy. We recently dined at Mellow Mushroom. It was the first time since we moved to Birmingham from Atlanta. In Atlanta we ate at Mellow Mushroom quite a bit. It had the same kitschy feeling as those in Atlanta we frequented. The pizza was good but not one of the best I have had. There are a lot of pizza restaurants in Birmingham...all with their own unique pizzas. We like to sit at the bar whenever we go out, and their beer selections were adequate. However, service was a bit slow as the bar tender was also doing other duties. It is a fun place, and we will go back. read more

The service is horrible. Waited 20 minutes for a server, never got one. Had to wave someone down. She took drink orders for 2/3 of the party, came back for the 3rd drink order and then disappeared. So I love mellow mushroom since it's first restaurant in downtown Birmingham appeared in 2002. While this all started in Georgia I like to think Alabama is the second home to Mellow mushroom. This location at Inverness corners is super cute. You walk in and can feel the uniqueness that is mellow mushroom. Unfortunately the service is lacking. We came in for lunch on a Thursday December 15 so it was not busy at all. The server was nice but she definitely was not loving her job. I ordered pretzels as an appetizer and then we ordered a mighty meat pizza. We know that pizza takes a minute so we wanted to munch on the pretzel. Well so we waited and waited .... No pretzel. Finally the pizza showed and the server just sat the pizza down and walked off. I stopped her and asked about the pretzel- she looked confused like I had not ordered it. She was not sure what happened but I said - please cancel the appetizer since we have the entree. She never apologized which I thought was strange. I then asked for some ranch dressing and forks .... they never came. I went to the counter where she was sitting and asked for the items. We then needed drinks but by now - I had given up. The place I chose to eat at was "Mellow Mushroom" on 920 Inverness Cors, Birmingham, AL 35242. This place is 5 minutes from where I stay. I ate here Saturday cause my mom was in town and just wanted a quick bite to eat, so instead we ordered over the phone for pickup. I wished we decided to eat inside cause I didn't expect it to be so lively but for sure next time. The inside wasn't too crowded and the music was really good. The service was great, and I didn't have to wait too long for my order. I only had the cheese pizza and my mom had the philly steak pizza and shared the Mary Jane's Double Chocolate Brownie for dessert. It was really good and not too saucy. Wow! We've always been to the Mellow downtown and didn't even know this location existed. We haven't been to Mellow in forever so it was time for a visit! Love the decor in here. We were seated at a booth and TJ was our waiter. I went to order a hard cider and he recommended one with pineapple. OH MAN!! It was so good and a great recommendation. We had a free pretzel bite offer (FROM CHECKING IN ON YELP!!!) and used that. We really love the regular pretzels with beer cheese, but this was a good alternative. We also ordered the Holy Shitake, no onions and extra sauce. OH BOY! I didn't realize what I had been missing in my life until this moment. I always get this pizza from Mellow and it had been way too long. Pizza was fabulous. Cooked to perfection. Same as the pretzel bites and beer cheese. TJ was a great waiter. Very attentive and knew his stuff. Food was quick to come out which is surprising because Mellows usually take a little bit. Overall, great experience thanks to TJ and the food. My friend and I visited this restaurant after my awesome experience at the location in Foley, AL. We came during dinner and was expecting a crowd and possible wait time, but it was not busy at all (a plus for us). The restaurant is conveniently located in a shopping plaza off of the main road and offered plenty of parking. The restaurant offered plenty of spacious seating (inside/outside) and even had a small play area for the little ones. The restaurant was clean as well. Also they were adequately staffed just in case they were to get a mad rush of patrons. We did have to wait quite a bit for to be seated because the hostess was busy talking with another worker and not paying attention to incoming customers. Once she sat us at a table she was also our waitress and sparingly came back to take our order or see if we wanted anything else. Since we looked at the menu prior to coming we knew exactly what we wanted, so we didn't waste time ordering when she did come back. The pizza, wings and bruschetta that we ordered was delicious and we even had leftovers for later. I would give this location another try and hopefully customer service will be better. read more

The new Merry Prankster pizza is very good BUT the restaurant seems mismanaged. There was an unnecessarily line at the pick up register. No one was at the register for a few minutes. Don't know why. The restaurant had a couple of days that were a mess with dirty plates food on the floor, etc. no urgency to clean it up. On top of that the online menu had the Merry Prankster at $25.99 but checkout it randomly increased the price to $28.49. I asked the person at the register for an explanation and there wasn't one. Seems like they are illegally scraping $2.50 on every pizza, I'm guessing not many ask about it. It's just the principle of it really. I would like a $2.50 credit as should everyone that is getting pranked on this. read more

God help you if you order from this location when you are hungry. The average wait time to pick up a pizza for us ranges between two and three hours on a regular basis. And it doesn't matter if you pick it up yourself or if you have it delivered through an app -- the service is equally slow. The last time we ordered a "curbside pick up" order from this location, we waited outside for 30 minutes and finally after calling repeatedly we were told that our pizza was ready but they didn't have any intention of bringing it out to our car - couldn't someone come inside to get it? We haven't been inside the restaurant since the pandemic, but the wait for us at the restaurant prior to that was always one and a half hours minimum before getting a simple order. It didn't matter if there were only two other customers in the entire building, you know if you are going to eat here you're going to have to wait for a long time. We frequented this location for a while because the food was actually good, but over the past couple of years we have seen a sharp decline in quality. Two of the last three pizzas we got delivered from this location were literally inedible. I ordered a pizza "well done" a few months ago from them and the dough was raw in the middle -- completely raw and we waited for over two hours for the pizza. I tossed it in the trash. A complete waste of money. (And it wasn't some massive amount of toppings -- it had peppers and onions on it.) My husband tried to order from them again tonight. From the time he ordered until the pizza arrived it was two hours and 50 minutes. Almost 3 hours for a cheese pizza. Ridiculous. And there is no one to contact to find out about your order because half the time they don't answer the phone. Mellow Mushroom downtown used to be a favorite of ours and before we lived in this area Mellow Mushroom was a steady favorite. The service and the lack of concern about the poor quality of service that we face every time we try to order at this location is insane. read more

We dined at Mellow Mushroom on a Friday night. The restaurant layout is open and decorated nicely. It features Mellow Mushroom quirkiness like a replica camper and VW bug built onto two walls. There is a second floor dining room that has a tree house like view of the lower section. This location is convenient for residents who live in the 280/Greystone part of town. As you might expect, this location is dominated by families and kids. The atmosphere was loud and festive. Not so mellow, but we didn't mind. I tried the Philsopher's Pie, and thought it was just okay. The Portobello mushrooms and the Kalamata olives were the best part, but I would recommend a different pie. My favorites are the Mighty Meaty or Maui Wowie. read more

I waited my whole lunch break for them to give my pizza to the wrong table and then I had to go back to work. The bartender took my order and brought me my drink pretty quickly.Then, After 45 minutes, and watching the people who came in after me get my pizza, I was told that my pizza would be ready in just a minute. I told her that I had to get back to work soon, and she told me that she would go ahead and box up my pizza for me. Then, with just 10 minutes left on my lunch hour, I was told that my pizza, that I painstakingly waited on for nearly an hour, was given to the wrong table. I have no idea how that could even happen. She apologized, but didn't really offer much in terms for compensation for the fact that I was about to go most of the day with nothing on my stomache since breakfast. The restaraunt was almost empty, so I have no idea why they took so long or how they messed that up. It completely ruined my day. This easily the worst experience that I've had at a restaurant in years. Save yourself some trouble and go to Salvatore's, Capella's, or literally any other pizza place on 280... We literally got the adults food 30 min in to our visit, our drinks 50 mins into our visit, and our kids food an hour into our visit. Our kids menus and crayons I got myself at the 45 min mark. And we didn't get our appetizer because they didn't have it, but didn't mention that until after our entree. I went at a busy time but they were still able to sit me almost right away, I didn't notice any Covid guidelines but that's understandable. Me and my boyfriend split the cheese bread appetizer and a sausage and pepperoni pizza and it all came out nice and hot, the food portions are huge you more than likely will need a to go box! Saturday after the UAB game my family and I visited Mellow Mushroom in Inverness. We ordered a spinach and artichoke dip appetizer and a large Buffalo chicken pizza. We decided to dine in and we were seated immediately as we walked in. Our server showed great customer service and our food was very tasty and fresh. The spinach and artichoke dip was my favorite part of the meal!! There were no COVID 19 precautions still being enforced at this location. The building was on the smaller side but the seats were not too close together, and there were mainly booths for seating. We had an awesome experience here with a large group of kids & parents. Manager Brooke and waitress Jehli went above and beyond to make it a smooth experience, getting every order correct for 8 families (including my extra complicated create-your-own with vegan cheese). Service was excellent on a busy Saturday night. Pizza, wings, & salads were great. Cocktails were exceptional (which I wouldn't have expected for a pizza spot) and they have a wide variety of beer.
