I haven't gotten a manicure in a literal decade, but my best friend treated me to Mellow Bar for my birthday. I gave them a general design and then chose different colors from my reference pic and they nailed it with the colors. The ladies really took their time to choose the right color for the both of us. The service was great and they were gentle with me! The manicure was definitely worth it, as it lasted 3 weeks for me while lifting 5x a week, throughout work, cooking, etc. It's definitely expensive but worth it as a once in a while treat to yourself! read more

I was super excited to get my nails done here! Sadly, their instagram didn't reflect my experience at the salon. I chose to have one of their cocktail menu designs and thought the color palette and everything was super cute! When I arrived at the salon, first glance--everything looked super very nice. When I sat at my nail tech's work station, I was baffled by the lack of cleanliness. I understand nail dust is inevitable but if all you can feel on your arms when you rest it on the table and uv lamp is a layer of nail dust and just all around crustiness, it becomes unsanitary. For the price I paid for these nails, I expect the best customer service and a pristine salon. The nail shaping, previous gel removal and cleaning of the cuticles were done well by my nail tech. But once the colors came out, it seemed like she was racing against the clock. I understand it could have been a busy day but again, I can't justify the price if that's the case. I also understand that every nail tech's skill sets are different and to completely match to another design that they clearly did not make is unrealistic but it just wasn't what I expected for that high price tag. Regardless, the design itself is a tough one and I commend her for doing her best. Sadly, won't be returning. :( read more

A cute and quaint location in the west village. I enjoyed the airiness and openness of the spot. The vibe was minimalist chic. The owner is so sweet and offered me water as soon as I got in. Now that I think about it this was the quickest, efficient pedicure that I have gotten in a while. I can hear from a convo that the owner was having with a client on the phone that they take social distancing in the salon top priority. The claim to fame here, though, is the 6 minute drying time of the polish and wow that's no lie. Its refreshing not to spend over 2 hrs in salon for a pedi. read more

If I could give 3.5 stars I would. This is an update to my last review. After reaching out, Mellow Bar was very apologetic about my manicure experiences (started falling apart less then one week after), and offered me a totally new set, free of charge. I saw a different manicurist and she did a beautiful job. This Japanese gel held on much better, but still, one week later I had two nails with bubbles on the sides. It has now not even been two weeks since the manicure and almost half of my nails have started separating on the sides. I just do not think this place is worth the money. Jessie was the sweetest and did a great job! Pedicure was perfect and she was able to create the nail art I asked for on my hands. This salon is great if you care about cleanliness and the color choice is beyond amazing. Everyone in the salon is very talented and professional. My only complaint is timing. I did a gel mani pedi on my natural nails with cherries on only four fingers and my appointment lasted 2 hours and 40 minutes which made me very late for my plans. I think if I didn't rush her at the end the nail art would have been better but I was in a hurry. Regardless, I definitely recommend the salon :) read more

Contrary to their name everything about this place is chaotic. Do not come here if you are trying to treat yourself to a relaxing experience. Nail tech seemed frazzled and rushed the whole time even though I made an appointment. They have surface level cute decor but the space is rough around the edges and the pedicure cushions are stained. They have you pick your nail polish from pre-painted fake nails and it's annoying and messy. At the end of it all I still have some hangnails and the polish was poorly applied. Wish I didn't come here from Brooklyn, heard nice things about this place but it was a giant disappointment. read more

I have to be honest here-Immediately after I started going here, I was like this is going to be my SPOT!! I loved the interior, the color choices and location. However, after 1 week the gel on my nails started chipping. I figured it was a fluke, so I tried again.... Nails chipped after 1 week.... Tried several more times and same story. However, the tipping point for me was when my cuticles/ finger was completely butchered. I asked for some sort of antibacterial cream and there was no sort of disinfectant on hand. What's more, I didn't even get an apology. I completely understand mistakes happen but I cannot support gel that comes off after 1 week, and getting injured in the process. I am now dealing with an infection which has NEVER occurred in my 20 years of getting manicures. This place is a pretty face and that's about it. read more

Wanted to love but sadly....no. I was lured by the beautifully curated images on the instagram page and the website. And super excited to make the switch to Japanese gel in hopes of healthier gel options with more nail art possibilities. Although I keep nail art to pretty simple styles like cat eye. I had a pedicure first. It was fine. Not great, but fine. Cleanliness should be something to look at, as the aesthetic displayed in the website or IG does not match the level of sanitary conditions in the salon. Not horrible but definitely not stellar. Went for a scheduled mani, the real test. The technician was lovely. But I was surprised that they still do a soak off method every time you are to have service, knowing how damaging acetone is on nails, as confirmed when I asked. I proceeded with the service. I asked for the same color on my toes a steely gray, and although when applying on hands it looked different to me the tech insisted it was the same. Final product turned out to be a champagne. Not gray at all. Pretty, but not what I wanted. Now for quality. Reaching the 2-week mark, chips and cracks galore. A few nails are splitting on the sides. Cuticles not in great shape and hang nails. I'm used to E-File manicure that last a solid month! This would not make it 3 weeks. So the value, not there. I'm so disappointed as I got this manicure to last through 2 weeks of work events and a vacation trip abroad. I will now have to go back to a previous salon to salvage my nails. I can't believe I found a place that has non-toxin nail polish and the prices are amazing. My visit here was just the best I was able to relax. The color selection is amazing and you can tell she literally make sure the nail polish is up to date and current. The selection of non toxin gel and regular nail polish. I was floored. The owner is so sweet and she really help me with my indecisiveness in regards to color. I'm definitely coming her again. My new favorite place for a pedicure. Also the owner was very diligent in checking temperatures and cleaning the seats and bowls done and all the areas once people left. She only let a certain amount of people in and she used non toxic cleaner to clean all the surfaces. She also had hand sanitizer every where. And the cutest dog. read more

This place came highly recommended from a friend and I was very excited to try. I called and booked an appointment for a coffee pedi and Japanese mani. I didn't bat an eye at the cc policy to hold an appointment. I was told I'd receive an email confirmation and my appointment was at 5:00. Never received the email. When I arrived five min early, I absolutely LOVED (read hated) being looked at up and down like I don't belong, despite being dressed and accessorized the same way every other girl was for a snowing nyc day. I was then told my appointment was at 5:55 and I should "walk around for a bit". I took an Uber to get here, and why would I walk around for an hour for an appointment I made? Today was a terrible experience due to the floor manager incompetence and poor online booking services. My partner booked online an appt for the two of us to get our nails done. Upon arrival today we were told it would be one after another not simultaneously. And upon this news we promptly cancelled one of our services and were told this would result in a cancellation fee and for future the best way to schedule properly is to call. We informed that we had tried 3 times via the number on the website to ensure it was 2 manicurists. Then the floor manager explained the number on the website is no longer correct. Can you start to see this person has no clue what they are doing? They "graciously" waived the cancellation fee. At the end we tried to pay via a gift card we were given for this studio, they couldn't find it saying it was over a year ago.... It was December... Upon giving email and phone numbers of the person who gifted this card, they finally found it. I don't recommend going here until they get their act together. However the upside is the nail technician did an amazing job which is a shame as the experience was overshadowed by poor customer service, making the client seem like the problem rather than having ready solutions. read more

I love Mellow Bar! I had been going to a few places in the West Village and SoHo (Glosslab most recently) and my friend recommended Mellow Bar! I absolutely love everyone there. I normally see Kristy for gel and extension refill, and Meri for my extensions, but I have also seen Jessie and they are all FABULOUS! They pay attention to every detail and take their time which I appreciate. Kristy is such a hard worker (always hustling and watching other technicians in her downtime) and Meri is incredible at nail art and healthy extensions (a technique she learned while living in Japan). I use my hands a lot as I work in jewelry, and I sometimes chip or crack my gel. They repair it for free if it is within the week and always fit me in their busy schedule. I go at least once a month and it is worth every penny! PLEASE NOTE if you want to do extension or nail design you have to book it. You can't just come in and ask. They only have a few technicians and not all do complex design and extensions, so a specific appointment is necessary. read more

This place was an AMAZING find! So cute and good aesthetic. The polish colors are so chic! Let me start by saying I have only found 1 other salon in the city that the gel actually stays on my nails. As that salon is near my old apartment across town its not feasible to go to anymore. I think I have tried every nail place in West Village and Mellow Bar is hands down the the longest lasting gel! I got a single color gel service and enjoyed my time there. They have you sit at a bar with a acrylic divider between you and the nail tech so very COVID safe and makes you feel like you're at a bar again They take your temperature and have you hand sanitize immediately. They lock the door to prevent people without appointments coming all the way in. This is my new nail place! read more

Just did my gel manicure with Albee at mellow-bar soho location. this color is sheer pink, I believe is SG04, looks so pretty and natural. The nail salon itself is very clean, everyone here wears a mask, they have acrylic Panels between staffs and customers ,their tools are fully sterilized (not common in this industry believe or not) my nails used to be very thin when I get gel mani in other places, but Albee is outstanding with filling only the minimum to make them smooth before apply gel Polish. I was excited to come here for my first mani/pedi in over a year (yay vaccines!) and made an appointment but was not tended to until 15 minutes after I arrived. It then took another 45 minutes to complete a poor pedicure. Although I had booked a mani / pedi, no manicure station was available so rather than have the manicure done on my lap I just paid for the pedicure and left. Little things were also challenging - for example, they use their own colors but only have one color wheel (so takes time to look through colors), but the wheel does not tie to the actual nail polish bottles. Do not recommend. Poor experience and certainly not worth the price. read more

I have never had such a terrible expierence at a nail salon in my life. My friend and I came in for a joint appointment for the japanese gel and I didnt put on the appointment booking that she had tips because I forgot she had them. The staff had a complete meltdown about accommodating us, one of the nail technicians literally laughed in my friend's face. After they proceeded to laugh in her face they went in the back room (which is totally visible to the piblic) and ate. Instead of being flexible they were threatening to charge us for half of the appointment. Eventually we just left and went to a different salon. Don't go here! They do not follow sufficient health safety precautions. They insisted on sitting 3 inches away from me to file my nails and didn't suggest that I sit behind plexiglass. Then the technician dipped cuticle oil and touched the dropper to each of my fingers--a dropper that had touched each of the fingers of the previous customer and had not been sanitized.
