We needed to find a family practice doctor for my mom in Los Altos due to a fender bender that left her with a swollen upper lip. We had originally selected another doctor at Palo Alto Medical Foundation, but she was unavailable on the day that we needed to bring my mom in, so we were set up to see Dr. Stenberg. What a godsend. She has an *amazing* bedside manner, spending all the time necessary to find out as much as she could about my mom, including her family history and her personal background. She was not judgmental after uncovering the fact that my mom had never gone in for preemptive screenings (like colonoscopy, bone density testing, etc.). She was kindly encouraging and suggested that if my mom ever wanted to do those types of tests, they could be helpful to her. Our main concern was not the fender bender, but my mom's increasing short term memory loss. Dr. Stenberg administered a number of memory tests to find out what areas my mom was having difficulty with. At no time did she ever appear rushed or concerned. Instead, she was pleasant, kind, accommodating, and answered all of our questions. She recommended a blood test for my mom, to rule out vitamin deficiency or a thyroid disorder, both of which may have an impact on memory. She also recommended a book for my sister and I to read, to learn more about: memory loss, things to watch for, and steps to take in case things worsen. She suggested a visit to a neurologist for more extensive testing, and recommended one she likes who is part of the Foundation. At the end, she asked if we had any more questions, explained everything thoroughly, and left both my sister and I with that comfortable feeling you rarely get at the doctor's office these days. I can't say enough good things about this doctor, and I am very happy that we found her. read more
