Where do I start? I was reluctant to come here based on reading other reviews online, but their special Oktoberfest menu drew me in. We walked in and I was immediately caught off guard by all the things for sale in the entrance... it confused me about if it's a dine in restaurant or just counter service. There are only booths here, so if you bring someone in a wheelchair be prepared, and if you have larger guests, the tables are tight. I ordered the Kilbasa and kraut with pierogies and my husband ordered the Mac & cheese bowl without buffalo sauce (crispy chicken bare), my oldest got a burger, my youngest got a grilled cheese. We started with the cheese curds from their special menu. The salads came and I was impressed- very fresh and they've got GREAT ranch dressing!! Then there was a long wait... and randomly the waitress brought cheese sticks. We were unsure why... they definitely weren't cheese curds. When we asked about them she rudely said "we don't have cheese curds!" Which would have been nice to know when we ordered them. The rest was meh. My pierogies were hard and chewy, but my Kilbasa was good... My husband's dinner had hot sauce throughout, and he tried not to complain, but dang. There was butter on my son's fries which upset him. Quality diner when looking for something local at a great price. The breakfast burritos tasted great and the salsa was on point. The American Breakfast came out exactly as expected and the fruit bowl was a nice touch. The huge hamsteak that came with it was juicy and large enough that we split it. Nothing fancy, but it hits the spot and sometimes thats exactly what you need near your house before starting the day. I look forward to stopping in for lunch soon. read more

I have wanted to try this restaurant down the road from us for a while. I finally decided to do take out the other day and the food was quite good. They have a large selection of items, and I love that they serve breakfast all day. I'm a big fan of breakfast for dinner on occasion. I had gotten eggs, hash browns and toast. My son had gotten the grilled chicken sandwich. Both items were very good. It is a smaller establishment with booths, so I could see how it might be difficult for someone e to eat in the restaurant if it's a larger family or if the have a disability or troubles with a booth. But, take-out was a great option for us and I would suggest it to others. read more

Waitstaff took quite a while to get to our table but was very pleasant when she did. Food was VERY good after a long wait. No refills or checking in. That was disappointing for sure. We loved this place after visiting on a recommendation from a friend. We had the club sandwiches and fries which were amazing. No frills just great food and friendly staff who welcomed us and made suggestions from the menu. We are locals in the area and support local business. We have frequented this establishment several times. Every time we we are here the food is great and the service is awful. Because of this, we have given them second and third chances. We understand people have bad days. It happens, but every time we visit? My wife and I are former servers to upscale restaurants and know what superior customer service is. We also tip accordingly between 20 and 40 percent. The times we have been here it is clear that the servers have their favorite locals and cater to them and not the newer customers. The servers we have dealt with do not greet, refill drinks, and are just plain rude. My wife and daughter went there today and sat for longer than 10 minutes to be acknowledged. And then 50 minutes for the food to arrive. This was for lunch in a half full establishment. We are done giving this place a chance to gain our business. I hope the business reads this and makes the changes necessary. Today was the first time my wife didn't tip. ...ever. That says something. Local business needs to go above and beyond. We use to come here often for their burgers and homemade fries... no more for me. First off I knew immediately the waitress was in a bad mood. Her spirit was terrible and she let us know this. She did not smile once. She wasn't a regular that had been there because I recognize them. I came here with my 6 year old granddaughter who was very hungry. I ordered her mashed potatoes and gravy with a side of broccoli. For myself, I got the hamburger and French fry for a special price as It was Tuesday. I sent back the broccoli as it was old and completely yellow on all the tops. The waitress started to make excuses when I looked at her and said... are you kidding me ? It wasn't busy, I understand everywhere is short staffed, but this is the worst service I've had in a long time. Went to Meldrums for lunch with my mom the other day. She lives in the area and eats there at least four times a week, kid you not. After my meal, I can see why. From the outside the place looks like it used to be something else. The building has a familiar shape but you just can't place it. I wonder if once upon a time it was Wendy's or something - remember when they used to have those glass-enclosed garden areas? Well Meldrums has one of those. Anyway, I digress. You can tell this is a local hotspot and that the staff get to know you once you've been there a few times. Of course they know my mom. We ordered bowls of chicken noodle soup and I added a coney dog to mine. The menu is extensive and there are lots of options from sandwiches to fish to burgers to soups. Even their hot dog menu comes with options, some named after famous hot dog places (Pinks in LA) and celebrities (Martha Stewart). The soup was all that I could hope for and more - the broth was flavorful, big chunks of chicken and homemade Amish noodles. DELICIOUS. My coney dog was yummy as well. The dog itself was pan fried so it has a nice crisp shell, the bun was not soggy but was warm and soft, the chili was a bit sweet yet a good compliment to the hot dog. Went there to kill some time before our flu shot appointment. got a table great . No ! very cold. Waitress did a good job getting our coffee and taking our order which was two cheeseburger baskets. Fries were o.k. but cheeseburgers were both dry and no flavor at all. Asked for our check, went to pay and young cashier cashier took my card and ran it. I asked for a copy and she answered a carry out call instead .I actually asked like 5 to ten times for a copy and was ignored. Let me preface this by saying we stopped in about 15 minutes before they closed, which we were unaware of because it was 8:45 on a Friday, I never thought a diner would close at 9pm on a Friday, so I didn't bother looking at the hours on their door. We are seated, there are several other people in there eating, and it's me, my mom, and my teenage daughter. We start looking at the menu and the waitress takes our drink order. When she brings those back she asks if we knew what we wanted, we say we've never been there so we needed a minute. She says okay and leaves. About one minute or less, she's back over asking if we were ready. I say we still need a minute and she says "okay, but just so you know, we close in like 10 minutes". I then ask why nobody mentioned that to us before we ordered drinks and she just rolled her eyes and walked away. So now we quickly figure out what we want (it's only been maybe 4 minutes since we sat down) and place our orders. I had a cheeseburger and fries (pretty simple), my daughter had spaghetti with meat sauce (again, simple), and my mom had breaded fish and fries. We wait a few minutes and watch as waitresses mop the floors, clean tables, etc. We get our food super fast, like less than five minutes fast, and after the waitress leaves I instantly smell something rancid. My daughter's spaghetti smells like what I would imagine Shaquille O'Neal's sweaty arm pit smells like after a game. I take a look at it and the noodles are all stuck together like they'd been sitting around for awhile and only the meat sauce (the source of the stench) was heated up. She decided to just have a slice of bread on my recommendation. My mom's fish was also just reheated and super dry (it was fish night so this may have been removed from the trash for all I know) and her fries were also hard and had a weird shine to them, (like they were sprayed with something?). She ate some of it but not much. My food was also terrible, yes they got the trifecta here. My fries were just like my mom's (terrible) and my burger was a super dry and over cooked price of gray meat. The cheese was barely melted as well. I told the waitress and she didn't offer to take anything off of the bill until I asked that at least the spaghetti get removed since it smelled like actual ass, she just chucked and said "sure". I have a feeling some things were possibly done to the food but I have no way of knowing and I don't know why they would, we came in right before they closed but we had no idea when they closed and had never been there before either. They should've just simply told us and we would've moved on to another place and saved everyone the grief. While it's not saying much, compared to the rest of Massillon this is good food. I can see how the higher stars given by other reviewers is possible, when your other choices are fast food and mega-chains, even an attempt to make good food automatically adds another star. Meldrum's is located in an old Rax building that's been heavily converted inside. (not exactly for the better through.) Just finding the main entrance was a bit of a challenge, as it's on the opposite side of the building that you would have expected it to be on. Just like Rax buildings always did, the glass atrium seemed to be significantly hotter then the rest of the building, making dining there extremely uncomfortable for some. It also seems that they peeled the sun coating off the windows, so I ended up going out to the car to grab sunglasses just to be able to eat. The service was somewhat lacking, and was heavily in favor of the large number of regulars there. I was only asked if I wanted a refill on my drink (an Arnold Palmer, which was made with soda fountain lemonade and tasted extremely watered down,) after I was nearly half down with my meal. Even though I had finished the glass off when the food was delivered. I was acknowledged by the waitress when I sat down, but it was a long time before she came back around for my drink order. I noticed that other patrons who were not greeted by first name seem to suffer they same issues with their own waitresses. I had the turkey burger, on a regular bun, with bacon. The fries, and the Bean Soup based on the recipe served at the Senate in Washington DC. The Turkey Burger was sort of nasty. For some reason the meat was mixed with additional spices and possibly even crackers giving it the approximate consistency and taste of meatloaf. Since I prefer turkey burgers these days over beef, this was a huge issue. Doubly so as I can not stand meatloaf in any form. The Bean soup was OK, but not really warm enough. It should have been nuked before serving, or at least kept warm in the pot better. I need to remember for the future that I'm not a fan of that specific recipe anyways, I've now had it five times at various locations around the US (including in the Senate building,) and just find it to be nearly tasteless. The fries were in the OK box also, they tasted like they were cooked in soybean oil instead of vegetable oil and definitely needed salt. The good part of the meal though was it's price. Seriously cheap food! I will grant that perhaps I'm a bit harsh on Meldrum's. But I also contend that with a few simple changes in service and minor changes in the food could make this place a destination in it's own right. Up the prices by 10% or so to pay for that and the owners of Meldrum's would be able to open a second location really soon. read more

I ordered the cheeseburger special and if I don't tell the server that I don't want my food overcooked, it will arrive burnt. I usually order a root beer to drink but they were out of root beer, so I ordered just plain water and as she was walking away I said "NO LEMON OR ANYTHING ELSE IN THE WATER. The server brought the water with a slice of lemon in it, but when I told the server I didn't drink lemonade she replied that it doesn't have sugar in it. I then proceeded to tell her that I don't drink any kind of flavored water, but she refused to get me just a plain water with some ice, stating that management told her that she has to put lemon in the water. The lemony water sat on the table while I ate my meal with no beverage to drink. I just left Meldrums, I ordered 1 pancake, no butter, 2 orders of bacon crisp. I did get the one pancake, with butter on it, one order of bacon a little on the crisp side and one order of bacon that looked like it was taken from the package and waved over the grill a few times and put on a plate and served. The food was brought to the table by someone other than the server. Threw the plate onto the table and left. The "server" did not return to my table except to bring the bill, which was 25 minutes after I was finished eating. I was a patron of this restaurant for the last 10 years, but recently the quality of the food has gone down drastically. I am not going to continue paying for cold, under cooked, over cooked or not how I ordered it food. I will no longer patronize this place. I have close to 10 years experience, as a cook, in various restaurants and I would never serve food like what is being served there now. Went here for lunch with my mom while I was visiting and am only giving this a 1 star so I can actually write a review - it was a 0 star experience. When we first got there, we noticed that there were several tables who didn't have food, and some tables were still getting breakfast items, despite is being well past noon and certain items are taken off the menu at 11 am. We also noted the abundance of waitresses huddled in the corner, chatting while one waiter, an older gentleman, attended to tables. This is where the problems began. Rather than taking the drink orders of our table and the table that came in right behind us and bringing all 6 beverages at once, he took their drink order, got their drinks, took their food order, ran and put that in, THEN took our drink order, got the drinks, then took our food order and put it in. He repeated this process with 2 additional tables that came in while we were waiting. It is standard, that when multiple tables come in at the same time, you take all the drink orders, go get the drinks for all the tables, take the food orders all together, and put all the food orders in at the same time because the tables came in at the same time. It is not proper to put orders in 15 minutes behind one another just because one party's booty hit the seats 10 seconds before another. Our meal consisted of 2 club sandwiches, one with fries and one with soup, with a side of bacon. Very simple. The second issue was the party that came in the same time we did and thus ordered before us, got all facets of the meal - appetizers, entrees, and deserts before ours was even put in. The soup finally came out and, while my mom was finishing it, we noticed that the 2 tables who came in 20 minutes behind us had BOTH gotten their food delivered, despite the fact that our order was supposed to be in far before theirs. We also noticed that food was still being delivered to the back room, despite no one going back to sit there since we'd arrived. It was another 20 minutes when our food was finally delivered, missing the fries, by a food runner. The bacon was cold and had been sitting for quite a while. The fries were piping hot so it was clear those were forgotten and rushed. No attempt was made or offered to correct or rectify the situation at all. Our waiter never checked back with us except to drop the check off almost immediately after we'd gotten our food and to say "oh you finally got your fries" which was odd. While we were eating a large family came in that, instead of sitting at the long string of tables, decided to squeeze into a booth on the opposite side of us and put a chair at the end of it - into the aisle was and completely against fire code. We finally managed to catch our waiter's attention asked for 2 large boxes to box up our leftovers. He brought 2 hot dog boxes, despite very clearly asking for 2 large boxes and seeing them sitting on a nearby shelf. We had to ask twice for 2 additional boxes, each time he spent several moments looking at the large boxes on the shelf, went in the back, and grabbed 2 more hot dog boxes and making the comment "I thought those would be enough". If he had given us the 2 large boxes we repeatedly asked for it would have been enough. When we finally got in line to pay our check, the line was backed up into the main dining room, with one of the waitresses who hadn't done anything the entire time we were there, sitting down at the bar stools to eat. This created, yet another fire code violation, because people entering the restaurant couldn't get through - there was no where for them to go as everyone was squished together. The older woman who had brought our food eventually opened up a second register because the line was getting so long. When we moved over to that side we noticed there were at least a dozen meals, all jumbled up, in the order window waiting to be taken out. There definitely needs to be some kind of management and overhaul done at this establishment. This is the second time we've had this experience here and probably won't be returning anytime soon. read more

I've occassionally been going there since I was a child, my grandpa used to take me. When my fience and I started dating this was the first sit down place that we went to. Apparently his grandpa used to take him there also every weekend. Well anyways we happened to be in there during the day,middle of the week..The waitress came up to us, was real sweet and helpful.Wouldn't you know it this lady recalled both of us coming there with our grandpas more then 15 years ago and even asked about them. It was really sweet. Everyone in there was friendly and helpful. The food is wonderful. A homecooked taste but better! The prices are cheap.Where else can you get food and drinks and an appitizer in a resturant setting and spend about $15 total for us both. We would have gotten dessert but we were both stuffed and ended up taking half our food home.Everything I've ever had there in my whole life has been delicious, and I'm adventurus so I tend to try something different each time. I love this place and always have. I hope when our kids are grown we can take our grandkids there someday. read more

The best thing I can say about this diner is they offer a good value. I had a "killer" dog (coney sauce, cheese, fries, and onions), and when they brought it to the table it looked like a bowl of chili. It was so piled with toppings you couldn't even see the hot dog underneath - all for $3.99. All of the food we had was just ok. Nothing to complain about, but no one would say their food was 'good' either. The restaurant was not very busy when we were there, but the service was terribly slow.
