Where do I start? I was reluctant to come here based on reading other reviews online, but their special Oktoberfest menu drew me in. We walked in and I was immediately caught off guard by all the things for sale in the entrance... it confused me about if it's a dine in restaurant or just counter service. There are only booths here, so if you bring someone in a wheelchair be prepared, and if you have larger guests, the tables are tight. I ordered the Kilbasa and kraut with pierogies and my husband ordered the Mac & cheese bowl without buffalo sauce (crispy chicken bare), my oldest got a burger, my youngest got a grilled cheese. We started with the cheese curds from their special menu. The salads came and I was impressed- very fresh and they've got GREAT ranch dressing!! Then there was a long wait... and randomly the waitress brought cheese sticks. We were unsure why... they definitely weren't cheese curds. When we asked about them she rudely said "we don't have cheese curds!" Which would have been nice to know when we ordered them. The rest was meh. My pierogies were hard and chewy, but my Kilbasa was good... My husband's dinner had hot sauce throughout, and he tried not to complain, but dang. There was butter on my son's fries which upset him. Overall it was very disappointing and expressive. We won't be back.

Quality diner when looking for something local at a great price. The breakfast burritos tasted great and the salsa was on point. The American Breakfast came out exactly as expected and the fruit bowl was a nice touch. The huge hamsteak that came with it was juicy and large enough that we split it. Nothing fancy, but it hits the spot and sometimes thats exactly what you need near your house before starting the day. I look forward to stopping in for lunch soon.

Good food. Good service. Good prices. I really liked the old-fashion diner nostalgia. Felt like something out of a movie.

In this review, service and food go hand in hand. Our server was Lauren. She's nice enough. We had a nice giggle over the fact that I ordered a shot of whiskey neat and she served this little shot in a 16oz glass. When we ordered food is when absolutely everything went downhill. I ordered a coney with onion rings. I thought that onion rings came with it (with an up-charge) but apparently you only get a side when you order 2 coneys. My partner ordered a Philly cheesesteak with mushrooms added to it. When our food came out, the bun of my coney was dissolved. Someone in the kitchen put coney sauce on the bottom of the bun, then the hotdog, then more coney sauce. I'm sorry. That makes zero sense. When Lauren came back, I told her the issue and she asked if I just wanted a new bun. I said that was fine. A couple minutes later she brings me a plain ice cold bun. I said "um... can't I get this toasted?". She told me "it doesn't come toasted". So I showed her the golden brown sides of the dissolved bun and I said "that's not toasted?" She said she would get it toasted. About 5 minutes later (and my coney get cold at this point), she brings back the bun and proceeds to tell me "sorry the cooks toast them sometimes and sometimes they don't" Ok... but if this is a remake, and you are aware that 50% of the time (although I think that's a straight up lie), wouldn't you want to make sure they toast this one since there was an issue? Well, I look at the bun and it's split on the bottom. At that point I'm pissed. I'm hungry and so annoyed. She brings the full check with no discounts for the inconvenience, sets it right next to the empty soda she never refilled for me or even asked. I told her to take my food off because I was eating it. The split empty bun still on my plate so she should have asked what was wrong or done absolutely anything. But nothing. She even charged me just under $6 for the onion rings. Just horrible service. Someone can't eat because the bun was messed up twice and you proceed to still charge for the cold onion rings that sat there. Maybe 2 were eaten between the two of us. We were planning on going the next day to try the breakfast but nope. The server who took our payment and wished us a nice day was very pleasant. Too bad she wasn't our server. Just so many issues that could have been avoided and things she could have done differently and reacted differently

It's less than a 10 minute drive from downtown Akron but it's off the beaten path. All locals (except me) in here. When I went (10AM Friday) the place was almost full, and I was dining alone, so I sat at the counter, happily next to the kitchen. To look at the kitchen was like looking inside a bee hive, bustling with activity but barely a sound. I could just make out what was being calmly stated "2 Silver Dollar, Salmon, Country Fried, 2 Over Easy..." It was fun to watch, but what was important was the output. It took just over 6 minutes from the time I order until it was sitting in front of me, and everything was perfect! The waitresses were so efficient. I saw my order hit the window and in about 12 seconds it was delivered. They were so customer focused, they were (jokingly) fighting over refilling my tea. When I was done and paid for I waited outside for Uber to pick me up (3 min). I looked back on what I'd just experienced, and snapped a picture of the two parking lots of cars for Fred's Diner. I counted and there were 32 cars at Fred's. OK maybe 10 were staff so 22 cars for customers, let's say on average there were 2 customers per car (remember I walked here so no car for me). By my calculation, Fred's was feeding 44 people every 30 minutes or so. No wonder they're only open 4 days a week and only for breakfast - lunch. I calculate they might serve 3200 meals in those 4 days, and then take 3 days off to get ready for the next week. I love this place. Wish I lived here so I could come more often.
