Went recently for breakfast. Decor is cute, lots of signs and photos. We love a good diner. It didn't start out promising. We were seated a good bit before we even got asked what we wanted to drink. The coffee was basically dirty water, so bad. Hubs said that is typical diner coffee geared towards boomers. Then we waited another 15 minutes before they took our order and another 20 minutes to get our food. We were contemplating paying for drinks and leaving. Our food was decent, nothing memorable. I got an omlette, and hubs got biscuits and gravy with eggs. He liked the gravy. The prices are amazing. So cheap. I won't be rushing back anytime soon.

This is the "greasy spoon" my grandmother bright me to when I visited her. I went here for nostalgic reasons. It was a really cute place with glass gasoline caps hanging from the ceiling. We sat at the counter which was so classic diner! I ordered a mocha milk shake, the topper burger & fresh-cut fries. The shake was to bland for my taste. It was cold & frothy, but the flavour of coffee & chocolate didn't vine through. The burger was a typical diner burger. Not stellar, but bad, just fine. The highlight was the fries. They were crispy, tasty & a generous portion. I would come back for sure & try something different.

Make sure that you try the homemade root beer. It is a pleasant blast from the past! If you are looking for a classic diner experience look no further. Make sure you ask the servers about the menu. They are knowledgeable and honest. The pies are frozen so... skip them and have something made fresh. The restaurant offers a King King Burger Challenge if you are up to it. If you are not a competitive eater you could opt for breakfast (any third of the day) or other classic diner items like burgers, salads, or fried fish and chips. I noticed they offer Jo-jos. I've never had them but they look like battered, fried potato wedges and I hear they are amazing. I'll have to give them a try. Ext time I am in town.

    Great portion sizes!

Decent diner food. Service can be slow at times but all the waitresses are super friendly and accommodating if you are dining with kids.

These workers should not be working with Food and serving customers. The best way to get people sick is the methods they are using at this place. very nasty and someone needs to do something more about it. I am going to look into reporting them to the Health Dept. as there needs to be more educational factors on cleanliness and hygiene to be working with Food

We also had a couple bottles of wine at the table, which were good as well. For appetizers, we shared oysters, meatballs, and shrimp cocktail. All of them were good, but the meatballs were my favorite. For my entrée, I ordered the prime rib. It was a bit saltier than I would have liked, but the sides helped balance it out. I really enjoyed the corn and mashed potatoes, and I also added mushrooms and onions, which helped offset the saltiness. In hindsight, I kind of wish I had ordered the filet mignon, as I suspect it wouldn't have been as salty. The bread at the beginning of the meal was also really good. Dessert was a standout--I got the turtle cake, and it was huge. It's definitely the best value on the menu. Three of us shared it and still couldn't finish it, though that may have also been due to the amount of food and drinks we had throughout the night. The food did take a while to come out, but the service remained good the entire time. We expected dinner to wrap up around 7:00, but we started at 5:30 and didn't finish until about 8:30--there were 16 of us, so it was understandable. Overall, a solid experience, especially for a group event.

It's less than a 10 minute drive from downtown Akron but it's off the beaten path. All locals (except me) in here. When I went (10AM Friday) the place was almost full, and I was dining alone, so I sat at the counter, happily next to the kitchen. To look at the kitchen was like looking inside a bee hive, bustling with activity but barely a sound. I could just make out what was being calmly stated "2 Silver Dollar, Salmon, Country Fried, 2 Over Easy..." It was fun to watch, but what was important was the output. It took just over 6 minutes from the time I order until it was sitting in front of me, and everything was perfect! The waitresses were so efficient. I saw my order hit the window and in about 12 seconds it was delivered. They were so customer focused, they were (jokingly) fighting over refilling my tea. When I was done and paid for I waited outside for Uber to pick me up (3 min). I looked back on what I'd just experienced, and snapped a picture of the two parking lots of cars for Fred's Diner. I counted and there were 32 cars at Fred's. OK maybe 10 were staff so 22 cars for customers, let's say on average there were 2 customers per car (remember I walked here so no car for me). By my calculation, Fred's was feeding 44 people every 30 minutes or so. No wonder they're only open 4 days a week and only for breakfast - lunch. I calculate they might serve 3200 meals in those 4 days, and then take 3 days off to get ready for the next week. I love this place. Wish I lived here so I could come more often.
