You can tell this is the kind of food that's meant to be comforting and filling. Service was friendly and the vibe was laid back, nothing fancy but it works. Im sorry that food was nasty af i still feel sick. The Staff was super nice though 1 little thin azz pork chop, teally!!? Potato Salad to to to sweet taste no balance in flavor taste like they used sandwich spread Can beans taste like pork and beans with added sugar I see why plates are for $10.00 I wish they change cooks or recipe because i love seeing my people elevate. Very nice man, humble and caring...Food was not good thou!!! My Pork Chop were very salty and there was no crust on the fried one? Greens were very bland no taste at all....Yams were just ok!! But, I pray they revise somethings in the seasoning and bring Melba's to life.. Overall I won't be back anytime soon. Maybe in the future just to retest everything... My review..My opinion..IJS.. I tried the Melba's world famous chicken with the collard greens and white rice . The chicken was really good and the collard greens were very flavorful. My husband got the red snapper , it was good just was a little small for a Man , but since my meal came with 5 drumsticks I was able to share my meal to even it out . My friend ordered the salmon , I tried a piece it was also really good . The young man at the register was very nice and courteous, even though it was packed in there with a lot of people he stayed professional and kind and polite . I highly recommend this place . I don't know how long their $10 meals will last , but it's an amazing price ! read more

Came here for the first time to support a black owned restaurant in my neighborhood. The owner was very nice and the ambience was nice!! I'm going to start with the good. The greens were seasoned well and tender. The macaroni and cheese was seasoned well not a lot of cheese and the macaroni was overcooked. Now the bad the chicken wings were seasoned well BUT they were way overcooked!!! They were dried out like chicken jerky very very chewy ate three and couldn't eat anymore because my jaw was hurting. Food is good for the price. They have more of a variety since they moved off of 5th street. More cooks and better service. There is seating in the new location. Can't beat the price. They have kool aid too. If you want some cheap priced mom and pop home made food try them out. Some of the sides are not homemade but seasoned up right and still good for the price. I'll just say I'm from L.A. so the food out here in the I.E. is umm different. Maybe it be different food in the back for content creators I don't know but this my second time and I'm good. All plates were $10 the cornbread is 2/$5. 1- smothered pork chop, rice/gravy, potato salad. Gravy tasted like lemon, pork chop was hard, rice was soggy and the potato salad is Reese or something store bought. 2- Catfish nugget, baked beans and greens. Catfish could had been fried longer but it was decent. Baked beans and greens are canned. 3- Chicken, yams and mac/cheese. First of all look at the MAC... I mean look at it! It's old, dry and brown. It tasted like it was probably bussin the day before but today y'all burnt out for even pulling that out, warming it up and serving it. Yams are canned, no extra sugar, butter or anything. Just from the can to your plate. The chicken was good tho. You get 5 drums. That's the only part of the chicken they had... drums. We didn't even eat the cornbread because it was light and falling apart like it was also old. I'm really upset about that MAC tho!! read more

I ordered gumbo and this is what I got, watered down bland rice,shrimp and potatoes, Ive never seen potatoes in gumbo. That's not what really bothered me, the broth tasted like water there was no texture, the gravy is supposed to be thick made with a roux this is disappointing and disgusting . I wouldn't recommend, I was browsing the menu on a kiosk and while I was talking to my wife a worker approached me and rudely pointed to the front counter and said we could go up there, order our food and was told it would only be 15 Minutes as there's only two other family's in here at the moment. 45 minutes later I asked when the food was good be ready and they just kept telling me it's almost done and the flys in the building just keep landing on us which is kinda gross very disappointing as I was looking forward to this place read more

Stopped thru Melba's Soul food Kitchen on Sterling Ave San Bernardino CA this weekend. Ambiance: minimal but clean and ole skool music playing..Customers were advised by employees to stay on mats only when ordering due to slippery floor. Service: The young lady at register taking orders was pleasant/ friendly and knowledgeable of offerings and pricing. There was a menu in place to view plates and she did give a good overview of same. Be aware that deserts are all $8 no matter the selection.. cobbler, slice of sweet potatoe pie, Bean pie, Cake slices.. I felt the price was a bit excessive for the size of the offering .. I bought slice of sweet potatoe pie which was good. However, I also bought 5 piece/ 2 sides chicken combo and catfish nugget combo with 2 sides Each combo $10.. but a desert $8.. IDK about that.. We had Raspberry koolaid which was good. Our sides on both combos were: collard greens, Mac n cheese(a big mistake) we added xtra side of yams to the combos.. also cornbread $3.50 to each. But after the bill was pd they stated they ran out of cornbread. I left the refund as part of tip instead of getting other food. Greens, were ok, chicken had some flavor but when it cooled was tuff, catfish nuggets .. ok .. yams .. good. But bey bey.. I'm not sure why that @Macaroni is called Mac n cheese. Those combos had large cooked macaroni & we were still diggin for any cheese, sauce, or anything to justify calling that Mac n cheese by anyone's standard.. snd that was a HARD NO!! & a NO MAAM.. period whoever cooked it could easily have been mistaken for someone who was not familiar with seasoning, sauce or any cheese in a Mac n cheese recipe..they just skipped over that part and did a drive by on the cheese. For the expectation.. we were very disappointed to see that in our containers.. it is the crux of any Soul food kitchen .. so there really was nothing we bought that is worth going out of the way for a round 2 at all of what we tried. We didn't order the ribs or any other offerings so we can't speak on them.. was not an experience worth almost $50 and would not return unless someone told me there was improvement in what we received.. I would not recommend unless you were close by and Hungary.. We don't live in the immediate area but was told a soul food kitchen was in the area and we like to support these establishments.. but for the accommodating friendliness of the person taking out order, thus the 2 stars on our first experience at Melbas .. I heard about the $10 fried chicken deal on Instagram and had to come check it out. They really hook you up with the chicken. They give you five pieces with two sides and a cornbread for $10. I got my meal with mac and cheese and yams and also decided to get some collard greens. Some of the other sides I saw they had were beans, black eyed peas, potato salad, rice, corn, and green beans. I really enjoyed everything. I would say my favorite were the collard greens and yams. They also sell different desserts like peach cobbler, pecan pie, and lemon cake. I decided to try the lemon cake and it was really good. Love that they sell Kool Aid, it brought memories of when I was a kid. Right now they're only doing takeout, but they plan to eventually open up the restaurant for sit down eating. The staff is so friendly and welcoming. The staff was friendly, but since it is made to order for the most part, my order took a little bit. This was fine. It was well worth it just for the mac & cheese. I got both the rib plate and the chicken plate which seems to be quite a deal. $10 for five pieces of chicken and two sides. I'll be at the chicken pieces were on the small side the fact that they loaded up on the two sides which I chose for them both to be mac & cheese made up for it big time. They have several different kinds of desserts that all seem to be homemade. I took mine to go and will check it out later All orders are to go.
