I tried Melba's Soul Food Kitchen in San Bernardino for lunch today after seeing their great Instagram page, and I'm glad I decided to stop by. My friend and I both ordered the chicken plate, which came with five large fried chicken legs and two sides. We both chose the yams and greens. The chicken was crispy and well-seasoned, and the five large pieces made it a very generous portion. The yams and greens were served in comfortable, standard portions and were both tasty. We both also ordered the peach cobbler, and it was really good. Most customers appeared to order their food to go. We were told the wait would be about 15 minutes, and that was accurate, even though they were fairly busy. The young lady working at the front counter was very friendly, engaging, and helpful when explaining the menu. They also have a clearly posted policy asking customers to check their orders, utensils, condiments, and everything else before leaving because food cannot be brought back inside afterward. I think that is a reasonable practice, especially with takeout orders. The meal was very filling, but I would have enjoyed having the option to add cornbread or another type of bread. Overall, the food was good, the chicken portion was excellent, and I would definitely return.

Peach Cobbler - delicious, not overly sweet and had real pie crust. 5/5 Sweet Potato Pie - too much nutmeg. 4/5 $10 Fried Chicken Plate - chicken was delicious and moist on the inside and not too salty, but still lots of flavor. Mac n cheese was dry and had no seasoning, and the yams tasted like charcoal. 3/5 $10 Fried Tilapia plate - tilapia was delicious. Would have liked more cornmeal in the batter, but overall it was very tasty. I was told potato salad was homemade by the cashier, but it was obviously store-bought and doctored up. The baked beans were from a can and not doctored up. 3/5 People were very nice and "pops" and his celebrity status with the jokes had everyone laughing. Probably would only return for the fried fish, fried chicken, and peach cobbler.

Amazing place. The food was delicious. Hot and fresh. The dining area was spacious. Clean tables. The service was the best. Everyone was super nice. Great ambiance. Good music playing. Definitely warm and inviting. We're almost 2 hours away but we'll be back for sure.

My review. My opinion..IJS.. Melba was on the list of places to visit..Been there done that!! I gave the Food a C-....I only gave 3Star for the Owner. Very nice man, humble and caring...Food was not good thou!!! My Pork Chop were very salty and there was no crust on the fried one? Greens were very bland no taste at all....Yams were just ok!! But, I pray they revise somethings in the seasoning and bring Melba's to life.. Overall I won't be back anytime soon. Maybe in the future just to retest everything... My review..My opinion..IJS.. Just a girl that loves good food!!!

$10 soul food plates! Say less, I had to stop in! I haven't had a good soul food plate in a while so when I saw the deal online, it gave me the extra nudge to check it out. Lol with that price one could cash in some recyclables and get a plate here. And the plates are big too. They give you 5 pieces of fried chicken. Seriously, two people can eat from it. I guess if you and your friend got $5 on it, you'll be eating good haha. I wound up ordering an extra plate to take my mom since I was going to see her. But I'd come back here if I'm around, the place does check all the boxes with good soul food. It was worth the stop.

I tried the Melba's world famous chicken with the collard greens and white rice . The chicken was really good and the collard greens were very flavorful. My husband got the red snapper , it was good just was a little small for a Man , but since my meal came with 5 drumsticks I was able to share my meal to even it out . My friend ordered the salmon , I tried a piece it was also really good . The young man at the register was very nice and courteous, even though it was packed in there with a lot of people he stayed professional and kind and polite . I highly recommend this place . I don't know how long their $10 meals will last , but it's an amazing price !

Fried chicken with yams and collared greens. 10$. Cannot go wrong

Get there early, order and pay at the counter. A few tables available. Better set up for take out. Had pork chop, Mac n cheese and collared greens. Friend had chicken. Yams also good not too sweet. Food was delicious Everyone friendly.

I'll just say I'm from L.A. so the food out here in the I.E. is umm different. Maybe it be different food in the back for content creators I don't know but this my second time and I'm good. All plates were $10 the cornbread is 2/$5. 1- smothered pork chop, rice/gravy, potato salad. Gravy tasted like lemon, pork chop was hard, rice was soggy and the potato salad is Reese or something store bought. 2- Catfish nugget, baked beans and greens. Catfish could had been fried longer but it was decent. Baked beans and greens are canned. 3- Chicken, yams and mac/cheese. First of all look at the MAC... I mean look at it! It's old, dry and brown. It tasted like it was probably bussin the day before but today y'all burnt out for even pulling that out, warming it up and serving it. Yams are canned, no extra sugar, butter or anything. Just from the can to your plate. The chicken was good tho. You get 5 drums. That's the only part of the chicken they had... drums. We didn't even eat the cornbread because it was light and falling apart like it was also old. I'm really upset about that MAC tho!!

Came here for the first time to support a black owned restaurant in my neighborhood. The owner was very nice and the ambience was nice!! I'm going to start with the good. The greens were seasoned well and tender. The macaroni and cheese was seasoned well not a lot of cheese and the macaroni was overcooked. Now the bad the chicken wings were seasoned well BUT they were way overcooked!!! They were dried out like chicken jerky very very chewy ate three and couldn't eat anymore because my jaw was hurting. I'm gonna give it one more try and see what the BBQ is doing

5-Star Review…read more Jenny's Diner has quickly become one of my favorite local breakfast spots! If you're looking for a classic American diner with generous portions, friendly service, and fair prices, this is it. My mom ordered the Lite Breakfast, and I had Jenny's Country Breakfast. Everything was cooked just right--the eggs were perfect, the hash browns were crispy, the bacon and sausage were flavorful, and the toast was buttery and fresh. The coffee kept coming, and our total for two breakfasts and two coffees was only about $29 before tip, which is hard to beat these days. The atmosphere is exactly what you want from a neighborhood diner--red booths, checkerboard floors, Route 66 décor, vintage license plates, and a welcoming hometown feel. You can tell this is a place where regulars come to catch up over breakfast. Most importantly, the staff was friendly and attentive, making us feel right at home. We'll definitely be back. If you're in Highland and craving a hearty breakfast without breaking the bank, Jenny's Diner is well worth the visit!

It's SoCal's only mom and pop 50's diner that's not part of some larger franchise or owned by big corpo (at least that's what I assume). Interior distinctly has the charm of a roadside diner with the 50's themed framed portraits, black and white checkered floors and the splash of red throughout. Some roadside charm to it too with license plates on the wall and the good ol' Route 66 sign. We only got to stop by quickly since we got take out as the rest of our group was still asleep, but this made for a great later brunch, probably actually lunch at this point. It's standard diner food, greasy pick me up for hungry and exhausted or hung over people or if you want something to tide you over before you hit the road. Either way, our food came out quickly and packed very nicely. Portions are quite generous and although it's not the highest quality of food (fries got styrofoamy a tad too fast and some of the meat was dry), nothing some ketchup and sauce didn't fix and the spaghetti and fish were actually pretty good. I wouldn't mind returning one day to dine in and get the full experience.
