I was so excited to try out my local black bear diner after eating at the one on St. George Utah a few times where my mother lives. My daughter had not gone with us to Utah, so she has not tried it and we kept ranting and raving how good it was. I also told my cousin and her family they also have not tried it before. We went tonight to Colton one and it was the worst customer service ever! I have never received such bad service. There was only one other couple inside. The place was empty. After receiving such horrible service, my cousin said will look no wonder nobody comes here. My daughter is a teenager. She can't eat that much because she has stomach issues so she ordered a chicken strip kids meal and the lady said it's only for 12 and under and she kept having a bad attitude and would not let my daughter order the kids meal. We hadn't been to a black bear in over a year but we decided to as we were craving bfast & wanted to use my free birthday bear bfast entree reward (which saves you $16). Honestly I thought everything was really expensive but we never went back after inflation & there was a pretty big difference in their prices now. Had a really good experience today for breakfast. Our waitress Xochitl was super kind, attentive & had amazing recommendations. I got the small chicken fried steak with gravy along with mash potatoes and a corn on the cob while my husband had the pot roast melt with sweet potato fries. We got bottomless sweet tea and iced coffee and every time we needed a refill, Xochitl was ahead of it already before we hit bottom she had a new cup ready for us. I was craving the Black Bear Diner Taco Salad and was in the area. I have not been to this location before. I like the Taco Salad since it is shaped like a giant taco and the portion size is generous. I chose beef instead of the chicken because it seems the beef is much more flavorful. The ingredients were very fresh, especially the sliced avocado. I selected the blue cheese dressing on the side but the salad tasted delicious with just the accompanying salsa. This is definitely one of my go-to menu items at Black Bear Diner. I also ordered their Homemade Bread Pudding which is full of raisins and nuts. This location is freeway close with plenty of parking. My waiter was very polite and efficient. Restaurant was clean and well maintained. They have an array of different food options you can pick from. We had dinner at Black Bear Diner, and unfortunately it was a huge disappointment. My husband ordered the meatloaf dinner with chili, and I had the turkey dinner with chicken soup. The meatloaf was mostly bread, with that frozen TV‑dinner flavor. The beef gravy tasted straight from a can. The only thing that was even halfway decent was the cornbread muffin. My turkey dinner wasn't any better. The gravy tasted canned, the mashed potatoes were bland, and the cranberry sauce came in a tiny plastic sample cup -- honestly, Costco gives better samples. The texture was jelly‑like and clearly straight from a can. The place was nearly empty on a Friday night, and the dining room had a noticeable cigarette or mildew smell, which didn't help the experience. The only positive was our waitress -- she was wonderful. I made sure to give her a great tip because none of this was her fault. I truly find it amazing that this place has managed to stay in business. They're running it like it's the 1950s, forgetting that today people expect a real dining experience -- not the worst TV‑dinner‑on‑a‑plate experience I've ever had. Bottom line: It feels like you're paying for a giant frozen meal, with the only difference being a waitress who brings it to your table. I'm beyond frustrated and disappointed with the experience we had at your establishment today. We came in around 11:15 AM for my niece's birthday breakfast. It didn't even look busy, yet we were quoted a 15-minute wait--which we understood--but then watched group after group that arrived after us get seated before us. Half our party of 6 was already there (3 of us), and my sister was literally 5 minutes away. We still weren't acknowledged or seated until 11:25. Then we sat there waiting again--for drinks, for food, and for basic service. Drinks didn't come out until 11:50. That's 25 minutes just to get something to drink. Food didn't hit the table until 12:10/12:15, and when it did, the steak was bland and had no flavor. There seemed to be maybe one or two servers trying to run the entire front of house, and while I could see she was trying, the service was horrible. We were barely checked on, didn't get refills, and were pretty much ignored after our food came. We spent over $130 for breakfast and walked away completely unsatisfied. For that kind of money, we expected way better. The whole thing felt careless, disorganized, and honestly disrespectful--especially when we were there to celebrate a special occasion.
