Saw this inside Newark airport . We were craving some sweet and found this one . The cakes other items on Display was very tempting . We got a chocolate croissant and it was good . They heated it up a bit and tasted ok when it was hot . Even if u eat it after 5 mins , it tends to cool down and doesn't taste the same . A little pricey but you can expect it in airports . Service was good . Cup cake was ok. Could have been better . Cookies were good . 4 stars overall

Yogurt and fruit
Peter D.

Airport restaurants are inherently sad, because nobody actually wants to be there. As customers, we're a captive audience. As staff, there are undoubtedly better places to work. At Melange, it was quite clear that our server wanted to be elsewhere. Luckily for them, the QR code ordering/payment system requires us to pay and tip before we even encounter a human, so despite not bringing us water or saying a civil word, she still got a tip she didn't deserve. Other than the undeserved hostility we got from the server, Melange is OK. It's a nice enough layout, with comfortable chairs (although their height made my wife nervous with our little kids) and tables extending into the terminal walkway. The croissant my little one got was warm. The omelette I got was decent enough, if unseasoned. And the yogurt and berries my other little one got was quite good, actually. If I was forced to dine here again by the circumstances of my flight, I'd do it again. But really, I'd rather not.

"Medium rare" steak
Chris T.

My medium rare steak was beyond well done. Fries lacked any seasoning. Waitstaff was MIA and inattentive. Don't let the French name or cool vibe lure you in.

Even another customer left the salad!

If you're in a hurry, do not eat here. There's only one server for the tables and bar. They spent majority of the time talking to their supervisor. Server was friendly, but she needed help. Another customer asked about his order too. When he said he had to go in 5 min. they went to check on his order and it had been sitting. I ordered using QR code which is faster. It took 15 min to order water in person. Then took 25 min. for my food. The salad was half fresh and half wilted. The ends of the baguette was toasted too hard to bite into. The rest of the sandwich was decent but overpriced at $20. Looked like most customers were here for the bar. The tables were clean. There's an outlet to charge your electronics.

Funny packing .... they do not keep small boxes
Aruna K.

Got desserts here to carry on flight. Other than the fact that the packing kinda sucked, loved the macaroons, I ate all six in one sitting ! The cheese cake somehow got lucky and escaped my gorging into it at least for 1 day, and earned the privilege to sit in a Houston fridge. It is a bit pricey but so is everything in an airport especially when its NJ. Macaroons wise- really fresh, really yummm!

Smushed chocolate eclair

This review is for Melange Bakery in the Terminal C Food Hall. The service is bad and slow. I was the only customer. After I placed my order, the woman behind the counter moved in a way that I can only describe as being like one of the Sloths at the DMV in Zootopia. Do not come here if you are in a hurry. Then she stuck an eclair in a bag instead of a box, so that it got totally squished. I felt super bad for the pastry chef that spent time making the eclair look good, until I tasted the eclair. The filling was totally weirdly cold and slimy. I just ate the top party, which was mostly chocolate, and that tasted fine but way too sweet. The chocolate croissant was pretty good, but weirdly oily and dense. Like all the butter had melted on the outside of the croissant instead of being incorporated in the layers. I can't say that my eclair nor my croissant lived up to expectations.

the bar area

The employees here felt it was ok to just stand around cussing. I heard the f word 5x yet no one that works here talked to us. It was probably good because they only complained about customers who needed things. Avoid this place at all cost. Way over priced and awful employees; they talked about messing with drinks and food, complained the whole time and non-stop use of profanity. They also managed to break multiple glasses while we were here for 20 minutes.

Chicken sausage and French toast

I had time to spare before my very early flight and came across this place. It is nice enough and the manner of placing my order was very convenient: I had to scan the QR code on the table and select my order. I ordered a cup of hot chamomile tea, French toast, and chicken sausages. It didn't take that long and the server, Briana, was at my table. They didn't have chamomile but Briana offered alternatives: English Breakfast or Earl Grey. I ordered English Breakfast with Almond milk on the side. I didn't have to wait for my French Toast and Chicken Sausages. The French Toast lacked the fluffiness or fullness I expected them to be but the berries were good touches. The chicken sausages were good too. My server Briana was wonderful and gave me hot water to go and an extra bag of English breakfast tea bag and almond milk. If only for her, I would recommend for you to stop by at this place. The place is nice and clean especially for an airport dining place.

Egg breakfast with poached eggs, white "toast" and chicken sausage

This looked like a cute place to grab some breakfast on a layover. It asthenic is nice and the menu is good. However, there is essentially zero customer service. You aren't greeted and it is self seating. You then have to figure out how to order on your phone (which isn't necessarily bad) but maybe having someone greet you and let them know would reduce the confusion among guests. Once you order, it is fairly straightforward, you wait and wait and then your food is delivered. Mine arrived within 10-15 minutes of ordering. But again no checkin or hospitality whatsoever, they just handed me my plate and off they went. I actually had to even ask for water because it isn't an order option on the link and I sat for a while thinking they'd check in or offer to no avail. The meal itself was good, I had poached eggs which were perfectly prepared with potatoes and chicken sausage. The sausage was a bit overwhelming, as was the white toast that was hardly toasted at all. Everything was under seasoned (with the exception of the potato's) and there were no condiments in sight, including toppings for the toast (you know butter or jam or something). All in all a good meal for the airport that was pretty prompt, but not somewhere I'd necessarily seek out again. Customer service and hospitality do go a long way and this is definitely an area for improvement.

Croissant
Angie Y.

The croissants are really good and not typical of the types of pastries you find at the airport but the wait times are just so long. The staff is super down to earth and realize how long the orders take for example I sat to have a croissant and coffee and it took close to 20-25 mins. Not a place to grab a quick bite but you need like a solid 45 mins. Coffee is alsk very bitter -- second time here and I've noticed how burnt the coffee tastes.

Oreo crumble donut

Came here when flying to Toronto. It was a cute little cafe located in the Bazar in Terminal C. I grabbed a chocolate croissant and bae grabbed a glazed donut and a strawberry glazed donut. We finished them quickly as we were hungry and they were really good and filling.

I placed a cake order a week before my birthday photoshoot and provided a clear reference photo plus detailed instructions to the baker, Elizabeth, over phone and text. I even came in person to pay a $20 deposit because I wasn't comfortable giving my card over the phone. What I requested was simple: A white, heart-shaped cake with pearls, curtain detailing, black bows, and elegant black cursive writing that said "Chapter 30." Unfortunately, what I received looked nothing like what I asked for. * Photo 1: What I asked for * Photo 2: First attempt -- extremely disappointing * Photo 3: Second attempt -- still not what I asked for When I came to pick up the cake, I was visibly disappointed. The tall male supervisor apologized and told me, "I'll see if we can fix it. Please come back in the morning." I explained how inconvenient it was to come three separate times for one cake: once for the deposit, once for pickup, and again because of their poor quality. He assured me that the supervisor, Corrine, would call me the next morning about the revision and compensation for the inconvenience. That call never came. On the morning of my photoshoot, I had to call THEM to find out if the cake had even been fixed. Corrine sent a photo of the revised cake, and it still looked unprofessional. She said I would receive a refund if I remained unhappy -- yet I never received my apology, and I still never received my $20 refund. I'm sharing this review so others are aware. This bakery used to represent quality, but clearly that standard no longer exists. After showing the photos to friends and family, several revealed they've had similar disappointing experiences recently as well. The most embarrassing part? My mother named me after this bakery because of its reputation and legacy in Newark. After this experience, that association feels more embarrassing than meaningful. Calandra's bakery, do better. Your long-time loyal customers deserve far more respect and care than this.

The spot was super cute. I asked the lady a couple of questions about the desserts and the one I went with is the lime pie. It came to a little under $7 for a small slice. The hosts Ooooed and Awwwed over the size of them & the unique flavors and when we would normally never pay 5$ a piece for chocolate, we thought they looked like a deal given the "size" and unique flavors. [12 pieces for $59.95] What was delivered was a joke! The total weight of the chocolates was approximately 8 ounces. That made them $120 a pound. They were simply packed loosely in a shipping box, so the box of truffles was shook and shaken all the way to our house and they looked terrible by the time they arrived. So an F for shipping. And the size, well as you can see they were nowhere as large as what was presented, as some were not even large enough to fill the space allowed in their packaging! For the most part they were smaller than a Lindor truffle. So another F for actual portion size in relation to what as presented on QVC. Finally the taste.... There was none. We tries 3, and they had NO real taste. I described them as eating Play Dough...just a weird putty texture. And the killer is 2 of the 3 we tried were hollow and you could see the seam where they constructed them. Yes...a BIG FAT "F" for taste!! We tried to return them and QVC didnt even want them back... So we put them where they belonged...in the TRASH. I welcome the owners of this establishment to prove to us what they offer is actually worth $120 a pound....

There is also a bathroom! The women behind the counter were all nice and patient with my questions, they also kept the line moving and were quick. I had high hopes for the Alfajores as this is an Argentinian bakery but unfortunately the ones given to me were stale. The cookie was very hard. Also the Dulce de leche was too sweet and burnt tasting to me. I also got a chocolate covered one and the cookie in that was also hard and dry. The strawberry croissant was amazing. I'll continue to stick with the cakes and croissants for desert and make sure it's fresh!
