Newark Intl airport, 9 am, at Melange. ONE lady at the counter to take your order, and same one lady to get you your coffee, at a different counter. I have never seen such poor service at any airport on the planet. People in line (a very long line, as you can imagine) were leaving, disgusted. Time to hire some serious help ! read more

Airport restaurants are inherently sad, because nobody actually wants to be there. As customers, we're a captive audience. As staff, there are undoubtedly better places to work. At Melange, it was quite clear that our server wanted to be elsewhere. Luckily for them, the QR code ordering/payment system requires us to pay and tip before we even encounter a human, so despite not bringing us water or saying a civil word, she still got a tip she didn't deserve. Other than the undeserved hostility we got from the server, Melange is OK. It's a nice enough layout, with comfortable chairs (although their height made my wife nervous with our little kids) and tables extending into the terminal walkway. The croissant my little one got was warm. The omelette I got was decent enough, if unseasoned. And the yogurt and berries my other little one got was quite good, actually. If I was forced to dine here again by the circumstances of my flight, I'd do it again. But really, I'd rather not. read more

It took 15 min to order water in person. Then took 25 min. for my food. The salad was half fresh and half wilted. The ends of the baguette was toasted too hard to bite into. This review is for Melange Bakery in the Terminal C Food Hall. The service is bad and slow. I was the only customer. After I placed my order, the woman behind the counter moved in a way that I can only describe as being like one of the Sloths at the DMV in Zootopia. Do not come here if you are in a hurry. Then she stuck an eclair in a bag instead of a box, so that it got totally squished. I felt super bad for the pastry chef that spent time making the eclair look good, until I tasted the eclair. The filling was totally weirdly cold and slimy. I just ate the top party, which was mostly chocolate, and that tasted fine but way too sweet. The chocolate croissant was pretty good, but weirdly oily and dense. Like all the butter had melted on the outside of the croissant instead of being incorporated in the layers. It is nice enough and the manner of placing my order was very convenient: I had to scan the QR code on the table and select my order. I ordered a cup of hot chamomile tea, French toast, and chicken sausages. It didn't take that long and the server, Briana, was at my table. They didn't have chamomile but Briana offered alternatives: English Breakfast or Earl Grey. I ordered English Breakfast with Almond milk on the side. I didn't have to wait for my French Toast and Chicken Sausages. The French Toast lacked the fluffiness or fullness I expected them to be but the berries were good touches. The chicken sausages were good too. My server Briana was wonderful and gave me hot water to go and an extra bag of English breakfast tea bag and almond milk. This looked like a cute place to grab some breakfast on a layover. It asthenic is nice and the menu is good. However, there is essentially zero customer service. You aren't greeted and it is self seating. You then have to figure out how to order on your phone (which isn't necessarily bad) but maybe having someone greet you and let them know would reduce the confusion among guests. Once you order, it is fairly straightforward, you wait and wait and then your food is delivered. Mine arrived within 10-15 minutes of ordering. But again no checkin or hospitality whatsoever, they just handed me my plate and off they went. I actually had to even ask for water because it isn't an order option on the link and I sat for a while thinking they'd check in or offer to no avail. The meal itself was good, I had poached eggs which were perfectly prepared with potatoes and chicken sausage. The sausage was a bit overwhelming, as was the white toast that was hardly toasted at all. Everything was under seasoned (with the exception of the potato's) and there were no condiments in sight, including toppings for the toast (you know butter or jam or something). All in all a good meal for the airport that was pretty prompt, but not somewhere I'd necessarily seek out again. If you don't have access to the United club for members only, that is right upstairs and right around the corner from this bakery, then this might be an excellent choice for you to stop at as you make your way through the Newark airport. They seem to have all the basics that you need from croissants to bagels, and pain au chocolat, as well as muffins, and some savory options as well. It's definitely the kind of place that you order at the counter and take your treats away and eat them somewhere else. I would not say that there's a lot of service involved in this kind of system. Additionally, the ambiance is that of the Airport on a corner as you round, from one part of the terminal to another, so it's quite. There's still room to stand there and make an order. On the upside, their pastries look pretty good but on the downside, there's a lot of free food and libations, and fruit, and seating, and clean restrooms right upstairs and around the corner in the united club. read more

A lot of reviewers seem extraordinarily negative about this place but we had an amazing breakfast, delicious Colombian espresso, and professional service by Juan at this spotless French cafe. I stand by my opinion as it's mine, all mine! The Madame Melange, sunny side egg on fluffy toast with gruyere, ham and bechamel is not the be missed. Ordered extremely expensive food (you are not going to get a good value at an international airport terminal, but twice what you would pay in Manhattan for drinks and an even higher markup on food felt excessive.) I can't comment the value or quality because I never received my food. Ordered with the QR code at my table by the gate and received a text with my receipt. After that, nothing. No way to communicate with the restaurant besides getting up and going to the physical location. 9pm on a Saturday night and nobody was working at the bar. I waited a few minutes and found the Melange Bakery, and it had workers, but they had no way to help me. Went back to Melange bar area and waited ten minutes and still no indication anyone was working there. My flight was delayed an additional 90 minutes yet I still never got my food, nor any messages about its status. I sent a refund request and received an automated email. I suppose I will have to dispute the charge with my credit card company and charge back. The entire food court area in Terminal C is a depressing and dystopian place. obviously the management of this place relies on minimal human staffing, but the online experience felt like how it would have worked in 2008, not 2023. No app exists, you are asked to create an account that you seemingly cannot log into, no option for status, etc. When someone is trying to pay you $60 for a cocktail and what I presumed would be an overpriced sandwich, at least hold up the bare minimum on your end. read more

This is my first time in a long time to come through the Newark airport. Everything has become an automated with credit card only. All the restaurants have a tablet from which you order and a place to scan your card for payment. Melange Bakery is no exception. I find this rather impersonal. In this terminal even the stores or markets have self check out using credit card only. I ordered the eggs to order with bacon and wheat toast, cappuccino, and a coffee to go. The food arrives first. Everything was as expected except the toast turned out to be white bread rather than wheat and believe more and much less toasted. I had to ask for butter for the toast, and for salt and pepper. The eggs were cooked the way I asked, and the bacon was thick sliced and cooked perfectly. The potatoes were very good with bits of red pepper for color. Finally the coffee arrived, both at the same time. I thought that the coffee to go should have arrived later... But that's why ordering through a computer is inferior to ordering through a live person. My whole order came to $19.75 Plus tax and gratuity. Basically $25. It was a good breakfast but not that good. Especially when you're doing with a glorified vending machine. I actually walked around the terminal to see different restaurants before stopping at this one, and nothing seem to have much of anything different or different pricing. The chairs and tables were basically to the side of the terminal hallway. They were decent for airport seating. I'm glad I ignored the reviews and tried this place out anyway. I wanted to make sure I was full before I boarded my 4 hour flight, so I decided to have breakfast here since it was near my gate. As stated in previous reviews, you order and pay on an ipad which I had no problem with. This place has high and low tables and seating around the counter. The food I ordered came out fast and was hot! The omelette and potatoes with toast hit the spot! It wasn't spectacular, but it was good and I left full, so MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! Your food and drinks are delivered by a waitress of course, hence the reason there's a tip option on the ipad. They also check on you periodically to see if you need anything else.
