I've tried friends' recommendations, accosted women with great hair in the street, pored over Insta and Yelp reviews, even done zip code searches for salons in ritzy areas (there's a Lulu AND an Apple store there? It must be good, right? Wrong. So wrong.). Go figure, the place--and stylist--I'd been searching for was right in my backyard. I picked Pavo on a whim, literally sitting in my car in a parking lot and dejectedly picking at my split ends, telling myself that I had to get a damn haircut before my vacation, and sincerely considering Googling Great Clips rather than suffer the anticipation of trying a new stylist. I picked Pavo because I kind of wanted to try their shampoo. Truth. I called and they had an opening for the next day. Great sign, right? Actually - YES. In fact, hell to the yes. When I tell you that the universe aligned and the heavens opened up when Merideth walked into the waiting area, I am not kidding. She was fun and bright and bouyant and laser-focused on my hair--how did I wear it most often, how did it react in humidity, how did it like its eggs in the morning--and gave recommendations and tips and honest feedback with the ease and grace of a physician ballerina who also happens to be your best friend. The products she chose were magic, her tips invaluable, and the cut stellar. I'm obviously a huge fan, and can't recommend this place highly enough.

However, four times in the last year I have been called within an hour of my appointment only to be told at the stylist wouldn't be able to make it in, and they would need to reschedule, and they would not be able to accommodate for a cut that day. I understand that people have personal lives, and once or twice if someone can't make it in, I certainly understand. But four times is a trend that I just can no longer ignore. Again, the service is fine, but if you rely, like I do, on being able to count on a haircut at a certain time, then I'm afraid that they may fall short. If you can afford to be a little more flexible with your time this might not be an issue, but just take it under consideration. Now I'm off to Sport Clips. Wish me luck.

"When you get a touch up, you want to make sure that you can tell, it's new". She took her time, and was friendly as ALWAYS. She even made me eat a snack and drink ginger ale, because I had the flu. I called, and was aghast to learn from Stephanie, their ever-friendly receptionist, that I wouldn't be able to get in on an evening or weekend for something like eight weeks. However, she patiently worked with me (and put up with several meandering phone calls!) and we eventually settled on a lunchtime appointment some six weeks out (never mind that, while I live 5 minutes from Tangles, I work 20 minutes away). Fast forward to the actual appointment. I arrived a few minutes early, was greeted by Stephanie, and told that Gerri would be right out, which indeed she was. She promptly exclaimed "Oh, I knew so-and-so was sending me someone, and I'm so glad it's you!", gave me a hug, took my purse to stash in a safe place, and settled down to examine my hair. And that, my friend, is where I was really impressed. Gerri took the time to listen to exactly why I hate my hair and what my doctor told me, combed it out to look at it, and suggested a bob with side-swept bangs that would both improve the look of the breakage while shortening the length that it would need to grow out to. She proceeded to shampoo me herself (I hate the hoity-toity places that have special shampoo people) and give me exactly that cut, which I absolutely LOVE. I'll let Gerri's words speak for themselves: "I'm on Team Karen. I would never do anything to to you that won't look fantastic." The grand total for such amazing service and skills? $30. I would have happily paid twice that and not batted an eye, it was that good.
