Wow - I'm reviewing just to contradict the last reviewer. Speakeasy has been nothing but brilliant for me. The service has been impeccable, their packages are server-friendly and on the rare occasions when I have called support they were only pushy about NOT wanting to hang up the phone with me until it was fixed even though they'd essentially proven it was my proxy configuration. I can add IP addresses to my service from their website and their billing system is actually pretty good - a refreshing change from any telco or cable company. I don't hand out 5 star reviews like kittens - isolated bad experiences aside Speakeasy is a really good ISP. read more

Megapath (was Speakeasy) continues to slide down hill. Spent 6 hours on the phone with tech support to get a password. That's right a PASSWORD!!! Something that most ISPs let you reset with an email or at most a 5 minute phone call. One guy (a tier 2 techy) even admitted to me he didn't know anything and probably couldn't help me. Too bad you can't give a negative rating number becasue they deserve it! read more

Megapath is a sorry substitute for Speakeasy. All of the sophistication and no-nonsense excellence of Speakeasy is gone, replaced by a shambolic ineptitude and corporate dysfunction that made Comcast look like a good idea. I had DSL from Speakeasy for a decade and then several years of business voice and DSL from them before they were subsumed into Megapath. I signed my last three year contract with them in October of 2013 and have been trying to get them to cancel my service for more than a month since it ended. First they offered to have the Cancellations department call me to send a shipping label for the equipment I leased from them. When that call failed to materialize, I called them again and they told me that they had renewed my contract without my consent. I have invited them to take me to court for it. Perhaps you will do better with them. Every big corporation has earned some nasty reviews, including my current ISP. Even so, I am ditching Megapath for their ongoing inability to provide reliable voice and data services and their equivocation during my last service interruption. I elected to get service from Comcast after my latest outage where my retail business had no internet service for four days. My shop uses cloud-based POS software and authorizes credit card purchases over the net. I was obliged to buy a mobile hotspot to keep things working during the outtage. During that time, Megapath tech support expressed confusion that I had voice but not other net service working and denied that the problem was something anyone else was experiencing. After a day or two of this, they admitted that the issue was known and widespread and that they were trying to resolve it and would call me back. They did not call back and my efforts to call for updates got me nowhere. In fairness, many of their tech people came from Speakeasy and are smart and decent people but the business side of the operation is too much for me. Perhaps they'll squeeze the money for their so-called contract out of me after litigation. Because the tech folks are so decent, I probably would have continued suffering the bad connectivity--the copper lines and related hardware in my area are leased from Centurylink and can't be relied on in rain, and it rains all the time here--but the fact of the matter is that when I described my outtage to them, they pretended that it was a unique occurrence instead of a widespread, already known issue. They weren't selling me a reliable connection, and when they lost my trust, there was nothing left to keep me from trying a different broadband technology from a different giant corp. read more

At least once every week (sometimes more often) our internet goes down, our phones become static-y and the office is slowed to a crawl. Why? All because Speakeasy cannot handle internet for an online company. I'm sure they are just peachy for individual use when one is sitting at home (but I wouldn't try after the experience I've had), but even for a small to medium sized business, the internet service is simply pathetic. What's worse? The first few times it happened it was "our fault." I think they have the picture now that we're not going to accept that as a reasonable excuse, but still can't fix it, despite passing the buck around to different departments. I highly recommend looking elsewhere if you value internet speed, telephone lines sans static, web browsing, or a company with the right attitude toward problem solving. read more

I can't think of invective adequately hate-filled to describe this company. But I don't need strong language; a mere accurate description should suffice. I had a very passive website, SharingTheEarth.net, which served only as a container for my late father's book. Time came, as usual, to renew the domain name, and I instructed MegaPath to do so. They were happy to oblige, for a fee, and I didn't think about it again. (For the tech savvy: I had tried to renew directly through NSI, but was told that, because of the way SharingTheEarth.net was originally set up, through Speakeasy, they could not accept payment except through my ISP.) The site really didn't do anything except offer the text to a few hundred visitors per month, and I seldom checked it. When I next did, months later, I found a nondescript placeholder page with Japanese characters. What emerged, after multiple discussions with MegaPath tech support, is that MegaPath never did the renewal, even though they had received my request, which they acknowledged at the time in a work order ticket. (I have an email trail for everything I say here.) The registration expired and a couple months later a Tokyo-based domain name squatter picked it up. Thus MegaPath had lost the domain name I had used for many years. My mother had chosen the title before she died. Now I can't get it back. At some point during this period, Global Capacity took over MegaPath's network services business unit. I want the reader to know that absolutely nothing changed. The people, the infrastructure, the corporate culture remained exactly the same. In my case, Global Capacity acknowledged that for half a year they had levied monthly web hosting charges for a website that didn't exist, but refused to give a refund -- "...I don't believe you qualify for the credits" -- even though Global Capacity was not and could not possibly have been providing a service. The refund refusal is emblematic of a larger issue: MegaPath's accounting department has been out of control -- or committing fraud -- for over a year. Double charges started appearing: a years-obsolete physical address somehow still in their records had newly been re-interpreted as a second site. When called on it, MegaPath did not issue a refund, but applied the overcharges as credit for future payments. Last fall I and many other customers were hit out of nowhere with a fictitious "Regulatory Recovery Surcharge"; again, this was restored as future credit, rather than a refund. These systematic charges are undeniable facts, and their undeniable effect was that MegaPath wrote itself free loans, with customers paying the interest. Whether the overcharges were intentional (for example, so MegaPath could make its books look good for the Global Capacity acquisition) is a matter for a state attorney general or the Federal Trade Commission to decide. read more

"Hey call us tomorrow morning and then just stop by the 7th floor to pick up a loaner modem". Ya, right on. Then you call back and find out that person was on crack and that you are just another number. You could be in Iowa, or 10 feet away from the service rep. "We'll mail you a package, that will be $99 bucks, your outside of your contract, can I offer you a new contract, $150 bucks if you break contract"... Lazyweb, what is the Speakeasy of 2007? I was a Speakeasy residential DSL internet access customer for nearly 7 years in three different addresses, through Spring 2006. During that time, I was highly satisfied with their level of service, while knowing that I was hardly getting neither the cheapest rate NOR highest data transfer speeds. What made it all worthwhile was RELIABILITY. In those 7 years, I never experienced any noticeable service outage, and I never -- not once -- had to contact customer support for tech, downtime or billing issues. And every service location transfer I had was quick and painless. Now THAT is a set-and-forget kind of solution that I can live with. When I moved most recently, however,I opted for another service provider since Speakeasy could no longer give me a suitable DSL plan for a reasonable price, even if I moved just one mile away from my previous address. And, oddly, I was unimpressed by their sales service when I tried to retain my account at the new location. I suppose that when 7 years pass between each occurrence of contact with a company's sales department, some changes should be expected. Sorry to see that, in my case, an improvement was not evident. read more

I was with an outstanding provider for a number of years and switched only because they didn't offer the bandwidth Speakeasy has. So I was cautious about switching just because of the outstanding service I had with my previous provider. Well Speakeasy is outstanding, they sold me a 15 meg pipe and I get a consistent connection of just over 13 meg, my uploads are close to 1.5 so I'm very happy. They notify you a good two months before the bill is due and the very few times I've contacted support they were right on the ball with quick and accurate resolutions. Granted these were only configuration questions but the response was great. Another major + for Speakeasy is that they don't outsource overseas. The support is on shore here in the U.S. with quality talent. Pros: 1. Fast, very reliable and dependable service. 2. Not outsourced overseas 3. Billing is sent two months before due date 4. Support techs actually know what they're doing and aren't just monkey's reading off of a script. Cons: It's a bit expensive, but the quality is well worth it and you definitely get what you pay for. Also a note to other reviews who slam Speakeasy due to issues with AT$T, Qwest or who ever the back bone is. This has NO relevance to the quality of Speakeasy, it's the issue of who owns the Copper of where you live. Mine is owned by Qwest aka Qworst. Yes I had issues with Qwest and it was a PIA due to Qwest's bumblings. But Speakeasy was on the ball, they nagged Qwest and went out of their way to light a fire under Qwest's bum. Ugh, I just had a very difficult transition moving my service to my new home with Speakeasy. I think Lawrence the *Speakeasy Angel* has died, because the ball was dropped repeatedly; and I got really tired of picking it up and handing it back to them to complete our transaction. It was all resolved, but it took two weeks....and I burned hundreds of cell phone minutes to get 'er done. Maybe the recent layoffs have had an effect on the level of service they can provide. R.I.P. I have been a Speakeasy ADSL customer for the past 5+ years. Normally, the quality of the service is VERY reliable; as in rock-solid reliable. The few times I did have any problems over the years, their support has always been on top of it. In addition, my tickets were answered quickly, and the guys handling the support really know what they were doing. The only reason this review doesn't get 5-stars is because SE's service is VERY expensive. I pay approx. $125 /mo for 7.0 / 768 service. Most others are about half of that, or less. What you are really paying for is the Covad reliability and the above average support. It comes down to a question of value. As an I.T. professional who demands above-average service from an ISP, I find SE's service policies to be one of the main reasons I am with them. They don't play silly games with blocking ports, or "managing" their network, like so many other top-tier providers such as Comcast and AT&T. The performance and reliability are KEY for me at least, even despite the high costs. I realize that there are a number of other options in my area that may be cheaper, I am not convinced they are any better. In fact, Verizon's tech support is so bad, it's not even worth mentioning. They must outsource their techs from India or something. With SE, you speak DIRECTLY with a tech that knows what the hell they are talking about, right there in Seattle. In summary, if you want the best service available and price is not an issue, this is the best pick compared to the "mega ISP's" that just treat you as another number. read more

We've had nothing but problems with our internet at work. Setup took months longer than Speakeasy promised and now internet outages happen multiple times a week for us (there have actually been days where the whole company sat around for hours, unable to use the web, make calls or do anything), and we've lost -- and are still currently losing -- tens of thousands of dollars in revenue every time the internet's down. We're a web-based company, and so we depend on our provider to fix their own problems and keep us running. It sends everybody into a panic when a black-out happens... super stressful. My employers have pleaded with Speakeasy for help and they are completely unresponsive. To make matters worse, our phone lines are always staticky, and the Speakeasy reps are so quick to point the finger at anybody but their own service. Yesterday they tried to say we must have a virus disrupting the service, but that's impossible because the problems persist even when every SINGLE computer is shut down. We also wasted time running anti-virus software/scanning work computers for no reason. They will do anything to pass blame to others and deny responsibility. They have blamed "3rd party providers" and now are blaming us, the customer. That's a pretty low blow. We're at our breaking point -- and that's saying a lot, since we've been patient for months, actually trusting them when they said they'd take care of us. We even canceled a contract with our previous provider (and paid a giant fee for that, of course) to sign up with Speakeasy. Now we're looking at yet another cancellation fee to escape the shadiest internet provider in history. If you can help it, take your money elsewhere. They definitely don't deserve it. read more

I've been using Speakeasy for about 10 years for home internet use. I'm on my 3rd DSL modem. I've had no trouble that couldn't be fixed, and all my interactions with support have been fine. Service is $54 a month, which I can live with. They've been good to me. My problem is their trend toward corporate ownership. Speakeasy was local, but sold itself to Best Buy, and now Best Buy is owned by MegaPath. I've been getting emails from MegaPath, which I at first took to be spam, but now know to be emails from my internet provider. Why not just call yourselves Tyrell, or Goliath, or Globex? I have to buy local, or at least regional. I just have to. So I'm shopping for something new, and wanted to put in my two cents for anyone like me who cares about things like this. bye-bye speakeasy. read more

Edit, they are AWEFUL. Support is a nightmare. I've been an enterprise level customer of speakeasy for years and I have always been happy with the service. However since the Megapath merger it's been rough. I will say that the folks on the Enterprise support team do work their best to get issues cleared up when they do come up. 9/2012 update: still stuck under one contract.....can't wait until it ends! Billing has now become my nightmare. I cannot remember the last time that amount was correct or that I received the bill more than 3 days before the due date. Getting it on time AND with correct amount? FUHGETABOUTIT! I have to call every single month. Used to be on auto billing, but they would notify of the amount due and then charge my card less than 24 hours later, before I even had time to review. Since the amount wasn't correct, I canceled and removed my credit card info. Amazingly, they STILL autobilled for 2 more months even though I called repeatedly. I feel like I should clone myself so I can do their job as well as my own. Very frustrated. read more

The woman from HR was incredibly rude and condescending and this is being polite. I guess rudeness and poor service are two prime features of this company. The service has been pretty ok, but I've been unsatisfied with the price, and for the time being downgraded the service. With slightly downgraded service, I seem to have been getting more outages. If their prices were more in-line with Comcast and competitors, I'd give them a solid 4 or five. But ~100$ for 3 megs is too much for me, considering the alternative offerings. read more

I WAS a speakeasy user for about 7 years at nearly as many different locations. The service was great albeit expensive. I had very few outages and they were corrected quickly. That is till I moved to my new house. Everything was fine for about 6 months and then the trouble began. My service would drop out resync send/receive a few packets and then drop out again. I called speakeasy and they did all kinds of tests sent people out to the house etc. The conclusion was that I couldn't support the speed I was getting. So they put me in a " maintenance mode" where I got half the bandwidth but since it wasn't "their" problem and they were meeting their contractual obligations I still had to pay full price. I should also point out that during this time one of their "tests" was to provide me with a new modem which I had to pay for. At the end of my contract I ended my account and went with Zipcon which was half the cost and nearly triple the bandwidth (counting the maintenance service). The same reliability and service. I used to recommend Speakeasy but now I know they aren't worth the cost...there is much better cheaper options out there...zipcon.net. read more

Oh yes, the former little local guys. Fortunately the Best Buy merger hasn't produced a major image change, but I've been pretty disappointed with the support service I've been getting. When Speakeasy works, all is well and I still feel like there's more humanity lurking in there somewhere than an RBOC like Qwest. At my last house, all of our neighbors houses started getting torn down and replaced with massive towering town-homes (towering because they'd build eight three-four story "homes" where a single family house used to be). Around this time our DSL service would randomly flake out. Toying with the DSL modem or router would sometimes help, but mostly it was time that fixed things: go get a beer and it'd be back when you got home. I eventually reworked the network so I could connect to the web server on the DSL modem (192.168.1.1) to monitor the DSL connection and moved the DSL modem to the basement so it was directly connected to the telephone company network interface, ruling out any premise wiring problems. After doing all of this, support stopped going through the "reset your router" "support" bits and I managed to get someone on the phone while things were going good to bad and back. The results he saw were confusing and since I was moving, we decided not to schedule someone to come look at it because he said it would take a couple weeks to get someone from the phone company out to switch the pairs on the telco drop into the house. Then the move. My MySpeak account got accidently disabled, so I couldn't monitor the progress, but that was fixed with a phone call. When we arrived at the new house and plugging in the DSL modem (I ordered a new one, just in case) it all was fine. Still there was a ticket for an install. I kept replying to the ticket telling Speakeasy everything was fine, but all I ever got was messages saying that Covad/Qwest couldn't get access to the house for the install. They obviously weren't reading my messages. Then yesterday I came home and the internet had stopped working. I had gotten an email midday about how Covad was giving up on getting access, so I figured something was mucked up. I called support, waited through the cruel recording about how I could get faster response by opening a ticket online, and was told by the system it was a 22 minute wait and it could call be back. Fine, I signed up and went to the bar. 25-30 minutes later I got a call, and still had to wait on hold another 5 minutes before I got someone who said I had to call back and call activations during business hours. So I call back and activations says the loop has never been configured. Fine, give me a truck roll, I'll take a day off and wait and we'll start this whole process over again. read more

Hi, I've been a Speakeasy loyal customer and fan since 1995 when Mike and Tyler and Gretchen Apgar opened up in Belltown, Seattle. The Speakeasy Cafe was a first and they had a great vision of public service as well as an internet cafe and ISP. Wow....and I have been a loyal customer until well...recently and it's a sad story. I love my first name@speakeasy.org email and love that it's been mine for 16 years and that they were one of the first independent ISPs and had strong values and great service...I could always get through....So from 1995 to May 2010 they would get FIVE STARS from me....Then things changed. Not sure when Best Buy bought them or when Covad/Megapath merged, but things have been different since then. May 2010 my iphone stopped working with my speakeasy email and well we tried everything. The ATT/iphone support people said (after extensive troubleshooting), oh it's speakeasy's issue. Speakeasy was always like nope, not our issue. They tried to help, they really did, but they never could solve the problem. I'd get error messages saying that i couldn't send or receive mail because my password was incorrect. BUt then, later at some unknown time, my mail would download but never when I asked for it. Days could go by without any access....For a while I could send emails. Now I can't :) Then the problem got worse. 6 months ago I started having issues with my macbook pro and my mail program. Mail wouldn't come in. This is after 15.5 years of working perfectly mind you. I would get an error message about the server "null".....not being able to be contacted. Except there was no null server. I've had Progressive Tech in Seattle go over my computer to make sure there wasn't an issue with the mall program itself and they felt that the issue was on Speakeasy's end. To SE's credit, we tried all the obvious things, but still nothing would work. If it never worked, that might make more sense. But 4 months ago or longer, it was every 24 hours about 11:30-11:56 pm, all the email from the day would come in....that did that daily for about 2 weeks....then it was every 2 days or so, and sometimes it would just come in but more often I couldn't get it. So I had to use webmail. Every use Speakeasy's webmail for long periods of time? Oh my goodness archaic... So in February 10 days went by without email downloading into my mail program (a third party application which SE says they don't support).....and finally I was so irritated I called them and WHILE i was on the phone with the SE tech person (a friendly woman), all my email started downloading. Interesting timing. And then....my computer went into the shop and it came out and I changed my SE password to a really hard one....and the email situation worked for 3 days...and then yesterday morning it went back to the same problems. Strange... The inconsistency is what gets me. I've spent so many hours over the last 12 months on the phone with SE tech support that it's unbelievable and still the problem isn't resolved. For them to say that they don't support third party apps is problematic. For 15.75 years they did support me and my mail programs.... They have basically told me today that they can't help me anymore...as if they really don't care about customer service or losing a loyal customer. I used to get really good VIP treatment because I was friends with the original owners and I had been there so long. That is n longer the case. Oh yes, and in terms of speed, it was okay for me just doing work from my home, but whenever I'd go to my friends or parents place, it was always faster than my connection. I tried, Lawd knows I tried, to get an account with Speakeasy. I don't know what went wrong, but after three weeks of trying to get the deal done it done didn't get done. Not that the customer service guys weren't helpful and responsive. They were. They got that whole thing down and should be commended for that. It's just that the whole process seemed unecessarily complex and kept getting screwed up on one thing or another. I eventually cancelled my install order and went with ClearWire. read more

I was with speakeasy for several years as a dsl subscriber as far back as 2003. I loved it even though it was a bit more expensive than other options. That was until megapath took them over and I became very dissatisfied with them. Started have slower speeds, dropped connections, imap issues, tech support sucked, and their attitude towards us small users became dismissive as they courted business users over home users. So I dumped them and went with Comcast business class. Very similar cost but super fast speeds compared to adsl under speakeasy, and have had very good support (much better than residential comcast, so go with business class). Very sad megapath destroyed speakeasy. read more

The worst customer service even for business users. I have to hold from 30-60 minutes to talk to a customer representative. Send email to management but never received any reply. Voice services are dam bad. Second party cannot hear. Reported issues couple times but no improvements. Internet disconnects sometimes during working hours. I remember the time I called sales and I was answered quick but after getting into contract, there is nobody to help. Never recommend especially to business users. read more

I too would give zero stars if it were possible! I had Speakeasy service which was always reliable and excellent - then Megapath came into the picture and it's been a complete nightmare. Between service outages, poor, slow service, and rude customer service people I finally opted to cancel my service (this was last November 2014). I'm STILL working on cancelling in February of 2015! Of course they aren't providing service but they are trying to charge me for everything from a service charge for a home visit from last Fall ($300!! for the guy to come for 15 minutes and swap out the modem - something I could have easily done), to an early cancellation charge ($99, for two month early on a 3 year contract), and now sending me to collections for not paying for or returning the modem (which I did and have the UPS tracking receipt and have given all this info to the billing department). It just keeps going... AVOID at all costs - or it'll cost in you both pain and suffering AND as much cash as they think they can suck out of you.... complete and total disaster company. read more

Started using MegaPath Voice Services this summer for our business that operates a small but critical call-center. Would recommend MegaPath to any business wanting to move over to a VoIP solution. Their hosted voice platform is like many others but their support team wrapped around the service is what makes them stand out from the other service providers. From the 'above and beyond' project manager to the higher levels of support, everyone at MegaPath is there to solve any issue that arises. At times it feels like you are the only customer and that is so uncommon in today's world. Their support group spans both sides of the US and every call is like they were there just to assist us individually. I actually look forward to calling into their technical support team. And to think, they have ties right back to the Northwest with origins in Seattle and a large staff still there. We thought about deploying our own soft switch but to get all of the features and not have to manage the back-end is what sold us on going hosted and we are very happy that we chose MegaPath. They feed you lies to get you to sign a contract and then charge for 3 months ahead+some BS taxes while nothing is even connected yet. No customer support. I completely agree with Sequinka. This service has been absolutely rotten. We paid a huge premium with Speakeasy because a good internet connection is so important. Their internet and customer service are both terrible. We have had problem after problem and they wasted our time with rude no-shows on in person service. This is the first review I've written and I am just warning anyone out there to strictly avoid these guys. The will do far more damage then their high prices. We had Speakeasy for less than two months when we had to cancel because of such poor connection speeds. It was so bad that on many evenings, we would have to leave the house and find wifi at a public location so that we could complete tasks for work (like, as simple as checking in on email). When it came time to cancel, they charged us a $300 disconnection fee. Them: it was "in your contract". Us: "Well, it was also in the contract that you would provide a service, namely bandwidth, and you failed to deliver. So, bummer that it didn't work out, but why don't we just walk away friends?" Them: "If you do not pay, we will turn you over to collections..." You can get customer service on the phone/chat to help you with most tech issues, but getting someone to discuss this cancellation fee is impossible. We sent emails and we sent letters and no one would contact us. All we got were late notices on the $300. Bottom line - they will be overly optimistic (is "lie" too strong?) about potential connection speeds available in your area and then charge you when you need to switch. Not cool. Just avoid the hassle, and avoid using them as your ISP! read more

Speakeasy, Mega path or Covad, whichever name they are pathetic! We started with them in 2006, having a T1 and phone service. Our phone service is a warble at best! Since the acquisition of Covad and Speakesy, the Speakeasy service is horrid! I wait 25 minutes on hold. It is expensive for a T1 we pay $599.00 per month. And then they cannot take action on anything.... and they are very busy! They are a disaster for a small business! money money money and the service well antiquated seems to fit! read more

I started with Speakeasy DSL in 2001, on advice from a friend. He was right; they were awesome! No restrictions, pleased to let me run a full web/email/login server out of my bedroom. Also, proactive notifications of problems, and fast knowledgeable tech support that knew their stuff well. A bit expensive, but not bad for the reliability and power-user focus. I (heart) Speakeasy. I evangelize. Fast forward to 2011: They've been sold to Best Buy, then Megapath. Start getting performance issues; I think it's the AT&T local loop, but I can't get them to check that. Trouble tickets by phone get lost. Trouble tickets that I do track get closed if I don't respond promptly to a phone or email message (via my failing DSL line?) Failed repair repetition. Finally, in 2013, the line physically breaks. Trouble ticket lays untouched until I complain. When it does start moving, all of 5 or 6 support contacts are overseas speaking marginal English and following a script to provide "high-touch" rather than competence. (I have nothing against overseas support as long as we can communicate and they know what they're doing, but both of those weren't happening). The price has barely gone down; I can now get the same features at lower cost and much higher speeds via Comcast Business Class. Getting beat by Comcast? Really? Have you no pride? Megapath (nee Speakeasy) is still better than AT&T DSL, and the truck-roll tech was really good, so I'll still give them two stars. read more

Stay away! This was a fabulous if high-priced company when it was Speakeasy. I've been with them since early 2000's, & had nothing but great experiences with their service & customer service til a few years ago. Since being bought out by Megapath, their service & especially customer service is a sure path toward lunacy: reps in India & the Philippines who robot-like repeat the same scripts no matter what you say, are hard to understand, give conflicting information, contradict each other, don't follow through, garble support tickets, leave you on hold -- in short, customer support that's a cruel joke. They deserve a negative rating. Their DSL speed is slow & expensive. Don't consider for a moment! read more

My company currently uses Speakeasy and I'm sorry to say the results have really been nothing but disappointing. We've had the same problems I've seen posted here--specifically, our service drops out, resyncs and sends/receives a few data packets and then drops out again. The guys who work tech support were very nice--Don especially. He called many times and attempted to walk me through the problem and troubleshoot wherever he could. However, our company doesn't have an IT person, and when the problems with our service got to be too technical for me to handle, they told me "we don't send out service technicians." Then, they blamed Comcast. Well, I called Comcast and they sent THREE service technicians who came out and reviewed the entire system and let me know the trouble was definitely with our Web Voice provider. You guessed it-- Speakeasy. When I called Speakeasy back--nearly in tears with frustration at this point of almost three weeks of back and forth rigmarole--they agreed to replace the hardware we were using for them because it was under warranty. They sent a new box--which our company had to pay an expensive IT consultant to come in and switch out because Speakeasy refused to send anyone--and then they called the very next week and demanded their piece of "loaner" equipment back. When I contacted them and let them know WE STILL HAD A PROBLEM they told me it wasn't their fault and to call Comcast again. I've explained to Speakeasy numerous times that our company is small and struggling under the recent economic downturn (as are so many other small businesses right now). I've explained to them that we're a Startup and can't afford to take our network offline for the hour or more it takes for them to walk me through yet another technical difficulty. I've pleaded, I've coaxed, and I've gotten angry. Every Speakeasy manager I've talked to has completely stonewalled me and made me feel that it's the fault of our company. I actually spoke to a gentleman today named Carey who informed me flat out "There's nothing we can do for you." I'm going to contract another provider as soon as possible--for those of you considering Speakeasy for your business or home--BEWARE. They're expensive and downright impossible to deal with. read more

I worked with Speakeasy for 14 months while working for a startup in Seattle and I was so frustrated that I actually already wrote a horrible review of their services. I went back and forth for months with their customer service team about problems with the quality of our service and no one would help me. Some of the representatives were very friendly, but all of them told me they refused to believe the problem was on their end. I find it interesting that the post of the bad review I gave them previously has now completely vanished, although I see reviews that pre-date it by a year or so which are still up. However, the posts that are still up are positive. This does make me question the honesty of the opinions found on Yelp. read more

Literally the worst company on the face of the planet. You call and get a representative who seems nice and understanding and willing to help. Problem is they can't help you, they have to transfer you to someone who you can't understand that will not give you any real answers. They repeat themselves over and over, you end up on the phone for over an hour with no answers. This was an email I received from one of their managers...a manager! "I apologize. So, are you gonna be purchasing now the Comtrend? Please let me know, so I can send you know the original proposal, since I'll only be here in the next 20 mins." It doesn't even make sense! They had to send someone to our office and I asked them 3 times to please call me first, since the room they needed to access was only open while building management was on the property. They did not call first, instead sent someone out twice while the room was locked. Bottom line: customer service is so bad that it will make you want to rip your hair out. read more

The only way to get this review posted is to give at least one star but the truth is, Mega-pathetic doesn't deserve any stars. I am with them only because I was with Speakeasy when the company was eaten up. Recently I was off line for 33 days while they tried to figure out what the problem was. Their techs came to my home on two separate occasions and tried their own computers with my modem and theirs, and were not able to surf. Before I gave my approval for their expensive techs to come over, I had my own independent tech test the connection just to make sure I wouldn't get stuck with a billable visit. That cost me $100. Weeks went by with no word from them about what was going on with my trouble ticket. They even closed the ticket once without even calling me to find out if I could connect (I was out of town at the time). When I got home, another 4 days had gone by during which they could have continued working on the problem. When I would call in for updates, the inept techs in India or the Philippines or wherever they are would start all over with troubleshooting or telling me their theory-du-jour about the cause of the problem. Finally after 3 weeks I was escalated to Tier 2 and it was only then that I started dealing with people who could speak English coherently and who gave me the impression the problem was being worked on. The last tech I worked with said that there was a problem in the central office that was fixed and the next step would be to send someone to my home to make sure there were no problems there. The tech that showed up was extremely rude and chastised me for not having my modem plugged into my computer. The truth is after 33 days of being told it "should work" and having people lie to me about there being "outages" in my area, I didn't even bother to plug in because I'd completely given up on the idea that I'd ever get my connection back. Now Megapath is threatening to bill me for that visit ($150-225), in spite of all the trouble, business, time, headaches and money they cost me. I don't know how on earth these clowns can still be in business. read more
