Maybe I got lucky. Very very lucky. San Jose cal train station was my pick up point for departure at 7:40am on Tuesday. 22 people and 80 seats so, I'm sure this is one of major factors. The driver was amazing on the intercom his voice was clear, energetic and very pleasant. The mid way pit stop was also a great choice and and the 30 minutes was more then enough time for me. Now this is my 2nd time using this brand and the first try was not the same. The first experience the bus was a 1 story and tight. The 2nd bus experience during this visit was the double decker. If this was or could be the consistent experience then, 100% would recommend giving it a try. 1 tip Bring a jacket or 2 jackets with *hoods. Why because even though the bus was clean... you never know. The good will make feel more comfortable and safe to put your head back on the seat (knowing your head and hair are safe).2nd tip is bring sanitizer wipes... I've taken Megabus a handful of times from San Jose to LA and back which all have been fine compared to my one and only Greyhound experience. However, tonight's experience totally changes my overall experience with Megabus. I'm writing this at 5am waiting for the next bus back home to San Jose. I got a Service Alert email after I booked my ticket from Anaheim to San Jose on Friday, 1/18. The email said the bus would have delays up to an hour due to operational issues which is weird to get it the day before. I didn't think much of it because bus delays happens. It was supposed to depart Saturday, 1/19 at 10:20pm. They email us 17 minutes later that the bus has been canceled. Another Megabus driver had to tell us the overnight bus going back to the Bay Area was canceled. If they knew beforehand these delays would cause a cancelation they should let the customer know so they can change to an earlier trip. Or have another bus. You have a lot of passengers going to San Jose & San Francisco! So now I'm stuck in Anaheim almost 11 more hours after I was supposed to go home because the next available bus departs at 9:05am. Yes they offer refunds or exchange for a rescheduled trip. But this inconvenience they caused could have been prevented if they had better communication and a backup bus if there are operational/mechanical issues. I'm supposed to be at work in the morning but I have to call out so thanks Megabus for making me lose a day's worth of pay! Waited on the phone for over 1h to talk to a representative who was as amiable to the person who was at the train station (and left around 00:30am and whose only word of advice was "talk to the driver" .. well duh, we wish!) It's 00:47am and we're still waiting for the 11:30pm bus. So far, we've seen 5 or 6 greyhound buses pass in front of us, going to their destinations on time (I assume) just like promised. Luggage nightmare! The only thing Mega about this bus is the MEGA STRESS they will cause by losing your luggage! My first time riding with them and this is how they treat me. Apparently, they tie little colored strings to your luggage to determine which stop to drop it off at. Since my bag was colored incorrectly, they dropped it off at the wrong stop. The bus will drive away and leave your bag on the side of the curb unclaimed!Thankfully, I labeled my bag and the police dept. got a hold of it first and contacted me immediately. However, since I was out of the immediate area, the police sent it to lost and found until I could retrieve it. I went to the lost and found and it was a headache to get out. I had to call the officer that contacted me to personally come down and get it out. When I confronted the bus driver about my bag, he had no idea what bag I was describing, which is odd because it's a very distinct pattern print. The negligence and ridiculous system in place for luggage is an accident waiting to happen. How can they just drive away with bags unclaimed? Obviously, the person is still on the bus! First off, the actual stop was hard to find. The sign was small and I wouldn't think to walk in that direction. It is DIRECTLY South of the main entrance to Diridon Station. You have to cross the street and the meeting point is basically not considered part of the station. The check-in process was pretty speedy. I was scheduled to take the 7:05 bus. The bus came at 7pm and I boarded by 7:10pm. Get there early so you can choose your seat! Especially if you are going with another person. Seats next to each other will be difficult to find if you are too far back in line. The outlet for my bus was UNDER my seat, so I didn't see it at first. The bottom deck of the bus also has a couple table seat things. The bus ride was pretty quick and smooth. We got to Burbank and LA 20 minutes early. We stopped at Kettleman City for 15 minutes where there was a gas station and McDonald's. For the price, MegaBus is totally worth it! It is also pretty safe compared to Greyhound. Most of the people on my bus were Asian families or college--aged students. However, I found that the seats were pretty small (compared to Greyhound, too) so even the average-sized guy next to me was spilling into my seat. Definitely would ride again though! read more

Five stars for the bus driver and providing a service that I really appreciate. I dislike unfair angry rants. I think they can be unfair and mean spirited. However some negative reviews allow you to make better choices with information you wish you had before you made your reservation. This is what I wish I had known. The bus stop is not at a train station it's on the side of the road. No shade, no seats. The first notice was 90 months n late, the 120 and then 240 minutes late. Apparently I agreed to the terms and conditions. We are in a part of town where the guy next to me went to Safeway and had to leave when he heard people screaming about a man with a knife. I took megabus on the east coast and that bus broke down too because one of its lights went out. Can't help but get the feeling they're cutting corners and not maintenance guy their buses. It got pretty dangerous at one point, where the bus would stall in the middle of the freeway and have to make emergency turns into the shoulder. Worst bus trip I've taken. The driver is unable to stay within the boundaries of the lane & keeps going off onto the shoulder & the shocks are so bad all the passengers on the top deck are unable to eat, read or sleep due to being thrown around constantly. Every time we hit a small bump I get tossed upwards & have to keep correcting my typing. This is insane! The 2nd driver isn't nearly as bad as the first. She couldn't make a decent turn - hit the top windshield with the branches of 5 trees. Lol They should have past out helmets! Barely enough leg room for my 5"7 self; the taller and bigger fellows sharing the 'table' reserved area definitely were cramped leg wise. They sent me an email saying my bus from San Jose, CA would be over an hour late. I called their customer service line 3 times to confirm. And then on the 4th call, they told me my bus had already left an hour ago without me. ...Are you kidding me? Might I mention it was freezing outdoors for the 2 hours I waited while my bus never came? Like actually, temps were in the 30s. That's not normal for Californians. Let me start off by saying that on my way up to San Jose I had a very pleasurable experience with Megabus. Although the bus arrived 10 mins late (understandable given the nature of the business) the bus was clean, air conditioned and the staff was friendly. The wifi worked great and everything was as advertised on the bus. Now that brings me to the real reason for this review. I scheduled a trip back leaving San Jose at 11:30 pm on a Sunday night. First off the bus did not arrive until 12pm. As we were in line waiting to board, the driver explains (in an extremely rude manner) that this bus was not the bus that we were promised (this bus did not include any power outlets or working wifi) and that if you wanted to wait next bus would be arriving in 3 hours. Let me remind you it was midnight and waiting until 3am was simply not an option for us. When I called customer service after arriving in Burbank, I asked if this was common procedure and they said wifi and power outlets are never guaranteed on the bus and there was no way to check if the bus you would be spending the next 7 hours on would include those amenities or not before boarding the bus. I HIGHLY recommend this transportation service. I'm not gonna lie, I was a bit skeptical of it at first. I even messaged fellow Yelpers to make sure this was legit. I mean, $1 ticket to and from LA? You can't even get across the city of San Jose for that little. I left on a Thursday morning around 7am. There were only about 20 people on the bus, so everyone pretty much had two seats to themselves. The bus is HUGE. The windows are massive (great for those who get motion sick like me). The seats are comfy. I suggest sitting either at the very front, or in the second row to the front. There's no seat in front of you, and it's super spacious. The bus stops at the McDonalds in Kettleman which is about 2.5 hours from San Jose. They stop for about 25 minutes, which gives you plenty of time to use the washroom, have some lunch, and just stretch your legs a bit. I think the only con to the bus was the fact that there really is no free wifi. Wifi works for a second when you leave the station, but other than that.. Nada. But I mean for a $6 roundtrip, you can't really complain. It's really clean, it's air-conditioned, and it doesn't smell like an old boot. The staff at both stations were really friendly. The service at the LA stop is great. I've been meaning to buy a new rolling luggage but didn't seem to have time before this trip. The guy who was working at Mega Bus saw how exhausted I was after walking through the entire Union Station with two duffles that weighed a ton, and he actually got up and offered me his chair so that I didn't have to sit on the floor as we waited for the bus to come. First of all: The actual bus stop location is located in front of the Diridon Station at the loop of the entrance (where you pull in to drop off/pick up people. Specifically, at the stop sign, there will be a Megabus sign to the left of the station if you're facing it. Our driver was very nice and funny, explained everything to us on the intercom and even told us to talk to him while he's driving if we had questions about LA or transportation. This was my first time using it and boy was it easy. I took the morning departure at 7AM from SJ to LA with only 1 stop in between at highway 46 for a 30 minute lunch break. All you do is hand the person your luggage, show the guy your reservation number, and run up to the top (double decker) and grab a seat. It looks like the most front will always be taken since they are coming from SF. So the next best seats are behind the stairs when walking up. It's because you get a little tray thing to put your drinks or phone etc. I booked my tickets 3 days before and paid $25 each way. Not bad considering Southwest wanted $190. Even though there was an unforeseen accident, we still arrived on time. read more

First occasion: the bus was leaving San Francisco to LA and maybe after driving 3 inches forward the transmission went out and it took a hour and a half for a new bus to come... Second occasion: tbis time the bus actually drove more than 3 inches. Left San Francisco at 1030pm and 3 hours later the bus breaks down! These two occasions are in the span of 2 weeks! It's 1:15am, we're stuck in god knows where in the middle of the night stranded! The staff says they have to wait to wake up a new driver to drive down here with a new bus which they said would take at least 2 hours. Please everyone do yourself a favor and aviod megabus. Great service but the wifi never works so what's the point of advertising it. I prefer this over the "viet bus" any day of the week. It's usually cheaper too but I love the fact that it runs from different spots and usually around connecting stations. I use this service when I need to get to LA but don't want to spend $350 on airfare. Other reviews have explained it but the pick up station is in the grass area directly south of the drop off area for the Caltrain. The worst part was the bus stopped more than advertised, and so came in late, after the last train departed. I would have been stranded in San Jose if it weren't for uber/lyft, which cost more than the LA-to-SJC bus. No hint of remorse or apology from the driver about the late arrival. The bus itself was okay, though the places it stopped were pretty dismal. The seats up front were way too hot from the sun, which could only partially be blocked with shades. I got a decent price for the bus going from SJ to Anaheim. I reserved and paid extra for a seat at the top level and front right corner of the bus because my friend told me there's more leg room compared to other seats. I'm 5'10 and ~165 lbs. It was just a little bit more room but it is nice to have no one behind you that way you can lean your seat far back and no one in front to lean their chair in your face. The bus arrived 20 minutes early before departure, which was great because I've heard the bus is notorious for being late. When the doors opened, I got hit the face with the smell of weed. Someone was lit on the bus for sure. The moment I stepped onto the bus and my nose got slapped with the lingering smell of pee. It was VERY unpleasant. When I got to my seat, the smell wasn't that bad until the a/c turned on and started circulating the pee and weed smell. My life is obviously awesome at that point. We departed and at the halfway point, the bus stops at the 41 junction in Kettleman City for a 30 minute break. After stretching my legs for 30 minutes and getting back onto the bus. I noticed my luggage that was on the floor got moved onto my seat because there was a pool of coffee settling in front of it. The bus was parked on a declining street so all the coffee that spilled somewhere from the back of the bus streamed to the front. Now I'm stuck with the triple threat of smelling weed, piss and coffee. Being unable to move to a different seat because it was the bus was full, I was stuck with another 4-5 hours in that disastrous situation. Overall, the traveling experience was very uncomfortable and it's safe to say that I will not be using this service again. Highly recommend this! I paid $3 each way which was incredibly cheap. I booked my tickets 3-4 weeks before, so if you want the best pricing , do it early! Soon afterwards it jumped to $24 or so, which is still a great deal for what you are getting. For the price, I was amazed that it was not sketchy at all. As a young female traveling alone for one of the first times, I felt relatively at easy. The bus in San Jose came right on time. The bus was not very full so I got to have an empty seat next to me both ways. We also made a pit stop at a taco bell/pizza hut both ways. The security was tighter in LA because you needed to get a ticket after checking in to be admitted on the bus. Sort of redundant but I guess more security is better than none. We also got back to San Jose half an hour early! It may have been due to a slightly shorter rest stop. Pros: Not too full, though my review may change that! (; Very clean, 2 outlets per 2 seats, reclining seats (which don't make a huge difference), plus all those usual coach bus amenities. Very nice bus drivers who were not sketchy. Passengers were mostly quiet and respectful, so going back at night, people could easily fall asleep. Cons: The wifi is pretty non-existent. I had it for maybe a few minutes. The bathroom was also port-potty style, but it was otherwise clean. It was also sort of cold both ways even after I closed the fans, so bring an extra jacket or blanket on. Overall, Megabus is awesome and I plan on using it a lot to visit friends and what not in SoCal. All the CA stops are very conducive to public transportation (duh). I've used this service to go down to LA. I consider it fairly reliable. It doesn't always arrive on time due to traffic, which is reasonable, but it always departs on time. The morning ones are usually less crowded, and I'm more likely to end up with my own row. As far as comfort, nothing good or bad really stands out and it seems pretty standard. The outlets are usually working. The wifi is slow and didn't seem to work at all for over half of the trip. It's gotten more expensive which is why I don't use it anymore. Bus driver was awesome, good humored, safe, good at driving, and even waited for stragglers that returned late during the break. I rode it the first time last night from SJ to LA t and it was good. i pad $29.50 one way and I booked it online 4 days in advance. It was pretty crowded but I guess thats what u get for a Friday night on Fathers day weekend. I suggest to arrive early for good seats. I sat on the top deck front row and had a really good view of the road. However, there is not that much room to stretch your legs. the bus was scheduled to to depart from SJ at 820 but didn't depart till about 835 pm and didnt arrive in LA till about 245 am. We also had a 20 min break at Button Willow about 3.5 hours into the trip. Overall, it was good way to get to LA for cheap. I will definitely be back read more

Bring a winter coat a thick blanket or something the bus feels like a meat locker... And the bus driver will not turn down or cannot turn down the ac.... I had to cover the vent with couple of mouse pads and a neck pillow to stop the ac hitting me directly... Even then I was freezing... The whole trip down to la... All I see people trying to adjust the ac vents... Megabus.. You really gotta find a way to adjust the ac so that the riders will not be uncomfortable.... Generally good service but not all buses are as advertised when purchasing a ticket. For example the seating selected may not be present. Don't depend on wifi being "megabus" or there being power outlets as they too may not be present. Some tables shake so violently as to be useless for doing work with a laptop. Bring you own hand sanitizer as there may be nothing in the toilet to clean your hands. Not just for you, but for everyone else. Yuck. Much better than most other services I have tried but don't be late returning to the bus at the end of a 20 minute break. read more
