Called for estimates on a couple different projects and they were way over priced compared to other quotes.

I contacted Mega as I've heard their commercials with the jingle and the rave reviews from customers. After past unsatisfactory experiences with other contractors I was in dire need of the job done correctly and completely with no snags. After a few rounds of phone tag I finally secured a 2pm appointment with an estimator albeit 5-6 weeks out. I took off work that day and met the estimator. The job wasn't a big job but was more than we could handle. I basically wanted to deck two 100 sf terraces only instead of it being the floor... it was the ceiling. Picture attached. Material wasn't a concern weather it be composite decking, bead board, siding, pvc or whatever. I knew the composite would be the most expensive but anything to just cover the existing corrugated tin of the terrace above me. After about an hour of texts, photos and calls back to the office the estimator sat down and produced a quote...but he sat there for what seemed like 5 minutes explaining what it all covered and the astonishing feats of magic that would be performed to bring this project to completion as it virtually would last forever and be the greatest accomplishment of man vs construction. He then slid it across the counter to me! I was thinking $5k....$7500...I could probably talk my wife into that ....$10,000??? Then I'd have to buy her a new car to get it past her. BUT IT WAS MORE!!!! $19,763 to install 200 sf of an undetermined material. They completely wasted my time. If they didn't want the work they should not even have set up an appointment and told me so on the phone. Truly a bad experience with what's is advertised as "The Best". I had Mega out to my home on April 2 to route a bathroom vent through the roof. I chose Mega based on their commercials and because the quote was 1/2 of what I received from another contractor. The workman was courteous and finished the job quickly. However, there are two issues preventing me from recommending Mega. First, the workman called before the scheduled time saying he would be 1/2 hour late, but ended up being an hour late. Things happen, and maybe there was unexpected traffic. Second, as he was doing the work, he found additional items needing attention, and said he would provide another quote in about two days. A week later, not hearing back, I sent a follow-up email to Mega asking for the quote. As I write this, I have yet to hear back. The follow-up work will be handled by another contractor. read more

Called Megapros because of their commercials to get a quote on siding my garage and replacing 4 windows, fascia and soffit. Mike called the day of our appointment (6PM) and told me he was running late...showed up 75 minutes late. No problem, I understand traffic happens. One of the issues with my 85 year old house and garage is dry rotted wood, I assumed they would remove the old wood siding and replace with sheathing...Mike said they didn't do that due to structural integrity. Since then I contacted other contractors and was told that it can and should be done, done in a way to keep the structural integrity of the building intact. I truly can't see putting vinyl siding over the deteriorating wood boards. But the main purpose of my poor review is the fact that I have not heard back from Mike at Megapros with a quote for the siding, 4 windows, fascia and soffit. It's been over a week, time to move on to plan B. read more

Mega's marketing is a far cry from reality. I had Mega quote on some stairway handrails because I broke my leg and needed rails on both sides of two flights of stairs. For two stairways, a post on the deck to cover two steps and a handrail for the two steps from my garage to the main floor of the house the QUOTE WAS $5500. I could not contain my incredulity. When my leg healed, I did all four items above FOR $250 IN MATERIALS, and the total amateur labor was about 6-8 hours. Being generous that would translate into $600-900 an hour for labor. FWIW, I would have contracted the job for $1500 to have the work professionally done at the time I really needed it. Also, this took place almost three years ago and it was still stuck in my craw. My main concern was never addressed so while the mistakes, omissions and incompetent workers were here, I contracted out the gutters myself. I had Mega repair a chimney and section of roof that was leaking at my Mom's home. John from Mega showed up on time, and was knowledgeable about fixing the issue at hand. Seeing how I called two other companies that no showed - Mega got the work. I believe their labor pricing was fair, especially since they offered a 15 year craftsmanship warranty (which matters a lot more than some BS manufacturer warranty). The job went smooth and took less than a day. My mother's roof/chimney no longer leaks! I appreciated that Mega supplied a typed final invoice, properly documented craftsmanship warranty, and a final waiver of lien upon the jobs completion. I was treated unprofessionally by this company. They have a receptionist named Julie who is rude and a liar. They also have a representative by the name of who wanted me to agree to pay for service work before coming out to my home. When I didn't agree this angered him and he cancelled the appointment without informing me. Julie screen calls then makes up lies and will cost this company a lot of money by loosing business. I also feel this company is prejudice as well. I was told the owner name is Joe. Per Julie no way to contact him. When we moved into our townhouse the first room we were going to remodel was the master bathroom. That was 19 years ago and thru the years the thought of finding someone to do the work was daunting. After hearing many testimonials on WGN radio we decided to at least have MegaPros come over and talk over our project. Once the estimate was done there was no pressure to make a decision. The decision was a no brainer. We could not be happier. From the first call from Julie in the office to Dakota who did the estimate (he was within a couple of hundred dollars!) to Matt and his crew for the demolition, Eric for his plumbing skills, and to Travis who went out of his way to make everything the way we wanted it. Also a huge compliment to Lou our project manager who kept us informed all along the way and making sure that all the pieces of the project arrived and installed as per the timeline that was provided to us at the start. I had some water damage on my bathroom ceiling and wall and needed to Replace an old medicine cabinet. I called Megapros to fix the wall, replace a bit of tile and hang a new cabinet I was extremely happy with the work. Everyone I encountered was very professional. The work was done right they were very careful and cleaned up afterwards. The work was done in a reasonable amount of time. First experience has been an utter disappointment. We decided to give this company a try - we have a master bathroom that is about 80% complete. It's not an impossible task - we just need some help from someone with expertise. Kristy confirmed with someone named Jeremy on Friday to come and assess the job today (Monday) at noon. My husband is self-employed and rearranged his schedule to accommodate the meeting. He only dos so after getting a call back from Kristy who said she confirmed with Jeremy. Upon her request, my husband called Jeremy to provide details about the job. After calling twice with no answer, a detailed voice message was left with a description of the work to be done. Jeremy did not return his calls over the weekend. This morning Jeremy called at 9:50am, said he looked at the submitted photos and offered a few excuses as to why he could not do the job and that he could not make the meeting. There was no effort to put us in contact with anyone else who might be able to help us. Whatever his reason, this is unprofessional and disrespectful of customer time. It also dispels any notion that MegaPros has any right to boast about pleasing customers. Those radio ads are way off the mark. read more

We took a chance and checked out Megapros since they had a long relationship with our mortgage broker when moving into a new home after our old contractor doubled the price from the estimate. We like the business model of quoting a labor and building material price, leaving the fixtures up to the customer so that you have the freedom to select the quality and pricepoint above the labor, and then don't have to pay the tacked on markup like most other remodelers. The quality of the work was excellent and their commitment to satisfaction was great, not expecting full payment until you're completely satisfied. They also made sure the work area was clean and they took precautions so that the dust etc. didnt seep into the rest of the home. We will use Megapros again for any other work we need. read more

I called them last fall for help with our deck. I didn't know whether I needed repair or replacement! I was told to email my request, which I did.....and waited. Several days later,'I called again. I was asked to send pictures. I sent them...... and waited. Finally got a text from Jeremy asking for better photos. I sent them. At no time did anyone offer to actually come to look at the deck. I live in a townhome and the deck is tiny. I finally got a text back estimating $7,000 for repair! I hired a handyman recommended by a family member and paid $400 for the repairs! BEWARE!!!!!!! This company is VERY CROOKED! They deserve no stars!!. They deceived me by taking advantage of my ignorance as a woman who had no knowledge of roofing. MEGA did a tear-down and installed a new roof costing me $12000. The roof started leaking water during a rainstorm less than six months later and has leaked ever since. One of the two owners, Steve Hogel of MEGA has repeatedled refused to fix the roof even though they gave me a ten-year guarantee.on labor and material. Instead, he blamed the leak on the weather and the sealant around the roof vents and also the heavy rain! What!!! They installed the roof vents and did the sealant! Both the insurance contractor and another roofer I hired looked at the roof said it was shoddy workmanship. MEGA had spaced the shingles too far apart and also skimped on the insulation. Maybe more problems, but they would have had to tear the roof down to find out. I did not go up on the roof while the work was done as it is 3 stories high in places. MEGA also changed the contract after I signed it crossing out the 30 year guarantee on the material to a 10 year material warranty. They probably knew that the shingles would leak due to the spacing. Now I have to pay for the repairs and hire a lawyer to sue to get my money back!! BAD NEWS!!! VERY DISHONEST COMPANY! AVOID BEING CHEATED AND STAY AWAY!!!!! read more

I was thoroughly shocked when I read the negative review about Mega. They have been my "go-to" home repair business for many years. After reading this review, I called Mega to get their side of the story. Without going into detail, I am convinced Mega has done their utmost to help this woman with her roofing issues. My belief was corroborated by other customers who had a similar problem with these same defective shingles (the manufacturer's fault). Steve and Joe Hogel have always been honest, trustworthy business people. Mega has won awards through the Better Business Bureau and Angie's List because of the worth ethic that Steve and Joe instill in their employees. Unlike so many other people in the trades, they return your calls immediately, keep appointments without fail, and never take a dime until you are satisfied with the work. Does it make sense for them to do something that would harm their company, a company they started themselves and have nurtured over the course of 30 years? Of course not.
