4.5 stars, food tasted very good, staff was friendly. Would go back. Liked the eggplant and tofu.

The place wasn't packed when we went on a Friday evening. It really isn't a charming space for a date night or anything special. Would prefer take out next time (seems like they had more take out orders than dine in anyways). The ladies working the front desk seemed really busy because they were serving out table, taking phone orders, and handling take out. Seemed like they needed more help. Dishes were decent, not the best, but not the worst either. Chinese food is a hit or miss anyways. I would say it was still good and would come for take out next time. Quantity size was decent but not sure how it would compared to take out. The waitress also didn't do a good job serving us. We were two people and she came back with only 1 straw and set of utensils. Then took forever to bring the second set of utensils.

Quiet, small restaurant. We were seated and served promptly. Food was good and definitely a fan of the tea. Would love to be able to order combos as an entree during dinner time. We ordered a few entrees for our group of 3 to split. One of our go to spots for good and fresh Chinese food that is well made. :)

I had lunch here on a weekday. Kinda slow, few people are dining in. I ordered Eggplant with Fried Tofu on garlic sauce. Hot not spicy, just mild. It's delicious. This place is quiet and well lighted. I'm not sure if they have new owners, again.

Seafood curry noodle soup! Just one word! Fantastic!

Great food. Good service. My go-to Chinese restaurant. Here is their Seafood Curry Soup.

First time here and it was actually recommended by a sweet old lady I was speaking to on a train ride back from NYC. I bookmarked it and made sure that I would visit since it's not far from where I live and where I usually hang out. Walked in on a Thursday night and while the dining room wasn't busy, there were quite a few people waiting for their takeout orders. Dining room was clean and and well-kept and since it only had a couple of occupied tables, it was quiet. I'd imagine this place gets packed with patrons during lunch considering Metropark is within a half mile and is probably busy Friday nights too. I grabbed a takeout menu and briefly looked it over. I noticed there were no dinner combo specials and decided to double-check with the host and see if there was an incremental charge to make the lunch combo a dinner combo. Host said they do not offer dinner combos and I would have to order a quart of what I wanted. No biggie. Since I haven't had Chinese food in a while, I was craving some chicken and broccoli with white rice (I usually go with the brown but wanted some Jasmine rice), and fried/steamed chicken dumplings, which they had. Man what a great dinner! The chicken and broccoli was cooked perfectly and was still hot by the time I got home. I laid it on top of the steamed rice and enjoyed every bite. I finished the entire quart in one sitting including the steamed chicken dumplings. The chicken and broccoli was TOTALLY worth it but to be honest, I was hoping the dumplings were going to be the bigger versions stuffed with chicken. The cost of those dumplings didn't really add up and I felt like they were the wholesale club version. All-in-all I will definitely return for takeout!

Squid and shrimp with noodles. Bean sprouts, spring onions and egg. With the flat noodles.

Didn't have the main Malaysian foods I'm familiar with. No Nasi Lemak. No Laksa. I ordered the fried Kwai Teo. Service was fine. Decor a bit dated.

I needed a quick bite to eat and went for the luncheon special: chicken and broccoli with won ton soup. The soup was rather bland with only two won tons. One look at the portion size and it was fairly decent. The rice had bits of pork and onion. My first bite into the chicken and the meat was very spongy. There was ample sauce and the value was decent (under $10 for the meal and an extra egg roll). The eggroll was average at best - a little dry. I'm not sure if the restaurant offers seating as I went during COVID and there was a table set up at the front door with menus. Since I didn't see a person out front, I had to call in my order. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here again.

The char kway teow was a standout: perfectly chewy flat rice noodles with smoky wok flavor, crisp bean sprouts, and just the right balance of savory and sweet. You can taste the technique here. The roti canai was flaky, light, and beautifully layered--exactly how it should be. Paired with the curry dipping sauce, it was hard to stop tearing pieces off. We even asked for an extra small rice so we could eat the rest of the dipping sauce. We also ordered the Hainanese chicken, which was tender, juicy, and simply prepared, letting the quality of the chicken shine. The chili sauce on the side added the perfect kick. Overall, Penang feels like a go-to spot when you want comfort food that's genuinely Malaysian. Great for sharing dishes, exploring the menu, and coming back again to try more classics. We finally made it here after exhausting all the nearby restaurants. The restaurant is medium in size, with pale yellow walls and cushy burgundy seats covering the dark brown floors. Framed black and white photos adorn the leftmost wall while the name of the restaurant is on the rightmost wall along with a framed painting. Finally, in the back, you can see the counter, which has a lucky cat and some plants on it, as well as a large painting of pink flowers in a pond behind it all. We ordered the following: Baby oyster omelet, which has pan fried baby oyster omelet with chives- this was delicious. We haven't had this for a while and enjoyed it a lot. Golden fried eggplant, which is lightly fried eggplant with cubes of bell peppers and onions. We all liked this dish a lot, as well. It was nicely fried. Claypot egg noodle, which has pearl noodle with minced pork, shrimp, squid, bean sprout in egg gravy. We've been looking for this entree for a while. Last time Hubs had this was 15 years ago and it was 30 years ago for me. Hubs loved this dish. Basil fish filet, which is stir fried fish filet with bell peppers, onions, basil leave and mushrooms. I thought this looked sweet and sour and was surprised it wasn't. Daughter liked it a lot and was addicted. Hubs was shocked at how flavorful it was. There were plenty of onion and peppers. There is parking in the back of the building but we managed to find a parking space in the front. It's a little tricky parking there but we managed. Service was quick and minimal. Will definitely return to try other items on the menu.

The dishes were bursting with flavor and they had some Thai street food as well which I enjoyed. Service was great. Ambiance was....ok - from the outside it looks like a normal restaurant and inside they decorated it really really well. I wouldn't say fine dining but definitely a nice hole in the wall type place. We got the following: Phuket Appetizer for 2 - included 2 chicken satay (delicious), 2 curry puffs (good, but I don't like potato so meh for me), noodle salad (SO good), 2 vegetable spring rolls (decent) Sautéed noodles Phuket style- honestly didn't know what I was expecting but they definitely taste very street food style and I really enjoyed them. They're very different from the regular Thai noodles. Green curry- spicy but tolerable and tasty!! If you're not really a spice person, would not recommend. It came with white rice Thai Fried Rice - I tasted like an onion and tomato roast base in this. Typically fried rice I feel is a bit drier but here it was not saucy but there was something in there that made the rice burst with flavor. Matcha yuzu- def recommend! A nice light fizzy drink. Majority of the taste is matcha Dessert- I really wanted to try one from their vast menu but I was sooooo full from the rest of the meal. Maybe next time :)

Everyone would always tell me this was the best Thai food in the area. And it was good (you get…read moresolid portion sizes and the food is flavorful), but I do think it was a bit overhyped for me. Some of the menu items did seem a little hit or miss. The pad kra pao was one of our favorite dishes, was spicy and had the perfect ratio of spice to chicken to vegetables. On the other hand, skip the golden curry puff, it was way too doughy. The green curry and drunken noodles were both good, and we asked for them to be extra spicy. It was a little harder to tell with the green curry, but that's also a coconut-based curry, so it kind of masks the spice a bit. We asked for increased spice for the Thai fried rice as well, and it was not spicy at all. My biggest con with this place was the service. We asked for extra napkins for the table and they brought out one napkin for a table of 5, and this happened on multiple occasions with several people. They also did not switch our plates out between appetizers and entrées, so it felt a bit odd to eat our entrées on small plates. They were also slightly stingy with water for the table.

If you're in NJ and craving Hong Kong-style wonton noodle soup, head to Wonton Guy in Edison. It's a no-frills local gem tucked away in a tiny strip mall off Route 27, with a few parking spots out front and more in the back. The space is small (only 10 tables!) and nothing fancy, but the value is hard to beat. It's always busy, and after you take your first slurp of the soup, you'll get why. Service is fast, so the tables turn over quickly. I was able to grab a seat when I walked in on a Saturday evening. The menu is simple and offers 3 main options: 1.) noodle soup with toppings 2.) soup with toppings (no noodles) 3.) lo mein with toppings served with soup on the side From there, you pick your noodle type (egg, flat rice, vermicelli), as well as up to 3 toppings (wontons, dumplings, beef brisket, etc.). There are also a few side dishes like shredded pork in chili tomato sauce, deep fried fish skin, and curry fish balls. They even sell some items raw like wontons, noodles, dumplings, and sliced beef. And the best part is... the prices are very affordable! Most of the dishes are around $11-$16. My order: *Two Toppings (wonton + beef brisket) Noodle Soup [$12.75] - Where do I begin? Every single part of this meal SLAPPED. The wontons were MUMBO JUMBO and generously filled with fresh, plump shrimp that were sweet and juicy. The noodles were soft and springy. The beef brisket was SO tender with a melt-in-your-mouth texture. And the broth? Super rich, aromatic, and savory. It's made of shrimp skin, pork bone, dried flounder fish, dried shrimp, and dried monk fruit, but it doesn't taste fishy at all. Each table is stocked with condiments like vinegar, homemade chili oil, and soy sauce to customize your soup. The chili oil packs some SERIOUS HEAT, so watch out. This was hands down one of the best noodle soups I've had. I was sad when I finished it :-( *Hong Kong-style Milk Tea [$6] - I really enjoyed this! The black tea was bold and strong--almost too strong for me, but the milk balanced it out nicely. I only wish it had boba! Everything tasted authentic. Quick backstory: The owner comes from a family with GENERATIONS of experience making wontons and running noodle shops in Hong Kong. He grew up there and brought those family traditions to his own restaurants in Toronto... and now Edison. All those years of experience clearly show in his food. The broth is simmered overnight, and the wontons are freshly prepared every morning. No shortcuts here--just decades of tradition, skill, and a whole lot of love in every bowl. Ugh, I wish I lived closer because I'd be a regular. It's hard these days to find a place that REALLLLLLY delivers a memorable meal that's both tasty, reasonably priced, and served in generous portions. If you're within driving distance and debating whether it's worth the trip--DON'T! Wonton Guy is absolutely worth a visit, even if it's just once. I drove an hour to try it, and I still think about those wontons all the time... no joke LOL.
