The day he went into the emergency vet.
    Kim A.

I wish could put a warning and not a star. Don't take your pets here!! When you are faced with an emergency with your furbaby, you want to trust an emergency vet. After an outrageous bills, abusive care we brought our dog home to pass away. We had the WORST experience imaginable and our dear dog of 12.5 years passed after a fight to get him out of there. He was admitted to get iv antibiotics and fluids over the weekend. After leaving him for 3 hours, they could not give us consistent updates. They ran tests that were not discussed and told us he needed surgery (that didn't align with our vet recommendation). After a discussion to understand the surgery, they said he had less than a 30% chance of survival from the surgery. We requested they follow the plan at admission to give IV antibiotics and fluids. At that time they had already ran our bill up over $3,000 for testing. When we decided to hold off on the surgery to get him stabilized, the attitude quickly shifted. They asked if we were prioritizing cost over care. We called several times and could not get an update on our dog. We were so distraught about what to do and the inconsistencies we decided to go pick him up. When we got there it was a very heated battle to see my dog. They continued to lie about his care. It was clear they had not even given his medication or cared for him. When they finally brought him to me he was so bad he couldn't even walk. He had bruises on his chest and refused to eat. He look like he was almost dead. I couldn't stop crying. I felt horrible for taking him there and trusting him. The day we took him in he was walking, eating and still playing with our family. He never walked again after being at this place. They would not let me leave until I settled the bill. They refused to give me the detailed bill or explain why my bill was over $5,000. They sent me home with medication but found out when I got home the bottles contained only 1 pill each. We called our vet in the morning when they opened. They gave him pain medicine and were so upset this happened. The notes they sent our vet did not align with what they told us or were asked to do. Not even they expected this to happen. Our dog passed away shortly after this with our family including our children. As I share our experience with others, we continue to hear others had a similar experience. So many family pets killed by this place. There was no need for this to be a traumatic experience. This place is the worst. They take advantage of families that love their pets. Abusive, poor care, greedy, dishonest and unprofessional. We are still heart broken over all this.

    MedVet patient.

I have two CKCS dogs that have been patients at MedVet Cincinnati for years, and for various things. The team here has mostly been compassionate, friendly, and as timely as they can be. Being a long time customer of the cardiology department, I have to give a shout out to Maggie Schuckman, DVM. She has been my dog's cardiologist and she is fantastic. She truly cares and has been compassionate through the painful progression of heart disease in both of my dogs (at the same time). My "boys" would be long gone if it wasn't for her expertise. I wouldn't want anyone else on my side going through this. Her assistants are phenomenalI as well. They work to do what's best for my dogs while being aware of the $$ and they advise with compassion. I highly recommend MedVet Cincinnati, and if you're looking for a cardiologist, Maggie and team are sweet and amazing and have given me more time with my boys. I'm forever grateful.

I ended up at Care Center after I thought my 4-pound Yorkie had gotten into the trash and was worried about a blockage in his intestines. After several hours of waiting for an ultrasound at MetVet, I was sent home and told to "monitor" his behavior. Long story short, he continued his symptoms and I took him to Care Center (after a less than satisfactory experience at MedVet), where Dr. Raghu not only comforted me, but discovered his symptoms were actually from a pre-existing condition. Since being treated, he's gained almost a whole pound to finally reach a healthy weight, and I couldn't be more grateful for the internal medicine staff (they even provided an email address which I used frequently during the early days of his treatment). I cannot say enough good things about Care Center... And I know my little pup feels the same!

Greater Cincinnati Veterinary Specialists and Emergency Services in Wilder Kentucky is horrible…read more I'm sharing this to warn anyone who needs an emergency vet near here so they can avoid them. Our cat, Rudy, was battling a lot of serious health issues. He was a rescued cat and suffered seizures and was fiv positive. We were on a palliative care treatment plan with our regular vet, who is amazing but was closed. Our cat had a couple of seizures over the weekend then experienced what appeared to be a stroke late Sunday evening. We rushed him to the nearest emergency vet because he was in pain, scared, and with his poor health status we decided to offer him mercy through euthanasia. When we got to the emergency vet they explained that the vet would assess him, place the catheter IV in his leg, and then bring him to us to spend as much time saying goodbye as we needed, then they would perform the sedation and euthanasia with us holding him. They took him to an exam room to insert the catheter, a procedure I've watched dozens of times over the years with animals I've taken to various vets. When an hour passed we asked the front desk what the delay was and they said, "Rudy was being ornery and they were having a hard time putting the catheter in" which was an immediate huge red flag as Rudy has tolerated painful medical procedures without flinching or complaint with our regular vet, who described him as a very docile patient and "wished every cat was as easygoing as Rudy" Another half hour and I approached the front desk and said I needed to be with Rudy and I was concerned about the issues and delays. The person at the front desk called then said they weren't answering their phone then walked back to the exam room to get them. The vet came and asked if they could mildly sedate him and we agreed. More time passed and we approached the front desk yet again because at this point I was considering other vets, other options. Something wasn't right. Then the vet came and talked to me in the hallway and said they had bent the needles trying to place the catheter and that "he had very thick skin" and I told her to bring our cat to us. When they brought him to us he was so sedated his skin was cold and he was barely breathing. Every leg has been stuck multiple times and I watched her try several times unsuccessfully in the rear leg, with the vet and the tech debating where his veins were. At this point I told them to stop and the vet decided he should be euthanized by cardiac stick. I definitely did not want to have him euthanized by cardiac stick. I wanted to leave with my cat but they insisted they would legally have to take him out of sedation in order for us to leave with him, although I've brought home other animals in the past from other vets who were sedated from medical procedures. At this point, I felt he had suffered so much at this vet and he is traumatized by car rides, that I had very few options. Not only did this vet rob us of a small window of time to say goodbye to our cat before they made him practically comatose with heavy sedation, but they poked and prodded for nearly two hours without informing us of any issues with the catheter. Instead, in our grief and anxiety we were forced to go searching the front desk for answers, horrified by the incompetent catheter attempts, and what I know in my heart to be a botched euthanasia. My sweet, gentle baby boy suffered needlessly at the hands of these ill trained, unskilled "vets" who also condescendingly explained that cardiac stick euthanasia was fairly common and humane. Which is simply not true. I have rescued animals for decades, was a licensed wildlife rehabber, and have worked closely with vets to understand care, treatment, and eventually a humane passing for many animals, whether rescued or long-term animal companions. I have never experienced a veterinarian hospital so completely unprofessional, incompetent, and as apathetic as Greater Cincinnati Veterinary Specialists and Emergency Services. Please do not ever take any animal to this awful place. Rudy deserved so much better.

I called his vet and they told me to rush him to the closest Emergency vet. Medvet Dayton. Let's go time is CRITICAL right? It was for my dog and family just not to Medvet Dayton. my mother, my dog Mitch and I waited over 2 hours while the staff watched my dog suffering puking 8 times in the waiting area. Me and my mom kept waiting and waiting PRAYING FOR MITCH TO BE CALLED BACK. I had filled out a poison control sheet, spoke to a toxicologist at 2:50 Pm. Why wasn't this done at arrival? Mitch needs to see someone it's 3:00 PM and we arrived at 1:20PM! I had to cry and beg just for a private room so he wasn't so anxious while continuing to throw up. We got one! Finally he's going to be seen! Nope. 2 different assistants popped in asked unrelated questions. One gave false information and to the Dr. around 4:01 PM Megan comes in to tell us that Mitch had a large amount of toxins and would most likely not make it but the toxicologists options were 1) hospitalization 2) outpatient ..we were devastated after hearing the news she had and strapped financially I told her to give us a minute to figured this out. Before she left the room she recommended euthanizing Mitch to save on funds. Leaving us heartbroken being told there's zero hope is heartbreaking! After all this waiting you just want to kill my dog? A few minutes turned into an hour. we came up with the money 10 minutes later after I asked for a few minutes.. we waited for someone. Anyone to come back!! I had to go to the front desk hysterical asking for help AGAIN! The assistant comes in we tell her we decided on outpatient we have the funds. Will be paying by credit card over the phone. We were going to leave soon this what my mother described as a bad nightmare was almost over! It wasn't... the assistant never told the doctor our decision wasting more precious time for my Mitch. My dad was going to pay with CC over the phone. He kept calling asking why it's taking so long and told me to go up front and ask if we can just pay. Of course they had the invoice. They want money. At 6:21 PM my father gave his CC info to Audrey over the phone. I knew we were in a bad situation after about an hour of being there so I started to document and time stamp EVERYTHING! Absolutely everything. Every conversation, every time he puked. I mean EVERYTHING! While she had my phone getting the CC info a girl walks out to the waiting room with Mitch? But we weren't in the waiting room.. it just so happen was up front trying to leave. I quickly grabbed him. I was frantically texting close friends asking for prayers thinking my dog would die last night. and one friend it took him a few hours to respond but his response made my heart drop to the floor "go anywhere but Medvet Dayton" describing his 2 horrific situations. It was too late. We were already there. They already had Mitch. We were stuck in what felt like living hell. There was zero compassion let alone did anyone great my happy social boy or acknowledge his existence. We got the charcoal and medication. Why didn't they give them charcoal? Isn't that VITAL? I didn't trust anyone there anyways but it just showed me how much they did not care. At home Mitch finally got 162 ML of charcoal down by me and my mother at 9:06 PM. 8.5 hours after toxicity. Mitch may not make it. I know that. It's not their fault he got into asprin. However it is their fault with their lack of urgency, misinformation, compassion or even a ounce of hope for my Mitch! Because of this his chance at survival is even lower. Please never ever take your pets here. This was one of the most horrific experiences of my life. MedVet at the very least owes us a huge apology and a refund. That won't ever happen. I'll make sure everyone I know will know about this horrific place and how we were treated. I'll advocate for Mitch even if he passes and all the other animals until I die. This is cruelty to say the very least.. they failed Mitch. They will keep failing other babies too.

As soon as I told her my dog was 13yrs old, she told me it was NOT chocolate toxicity & after an ultrasound she told me that my dog had a very large tumor & only had days to live. She gave me expensive prescriptions to "keep my dog comfortable," which made my dog so out of it that you'd believe she might be dying. What my dog needed was IV fluids to dilute the theobromine & caffeine which are the poisons to dogs in the chocolate, & IV fluids make it easier on the dog as it works its way through their system. My dog was experiencing every single symptom of chocolate toxicity, including internal swelling & bleeding, which can appear as a large tumor on the liver in an ultrasound! This vet never mentioned chocolate toxicity after I told her initially this is what was happening & she told me it was NOT! Leaving no possibility that this could be anything other than liver cancer because my dog was 13yrs old. This visit cost me $345! And my dog did not even receive proper treatment for the entire reason in which I had taken her. She could have died from chocolate toxicity due to no treatment!! But she did not! Because when she woke up the next morning she was doing much better so I stopped the meds which made her seem so sick & unresponsive. She improved from there & a visit to her regular vet confirmed she was suffering from extreme chocolate toxicity & was very fortunate to have survived without any treatment despite the expensive visit to the emergency vet office, Care Center & seeing Dr Emma Lasley! She does not have a tumor on her liver, that was just swelling from the toxicity & Dr Lasley should have known this was a possibility, but she stereotyped my baby as an old dog who certainly must be dying in her eyes! Thank God I made the decisions I made by stopping the meds so that I could tell that my dog was back to normal, & taking her to an intelligent, PROFESSIONAL vet who ran the proper tests & considered her symptoms could possibly be from chocolate toxicity after ingesting possibly more than a half pound instead of giving a 100% diagnosis of a terminal tumor simply because of her age. If I had listened to Dr Lasley, my dog would've been on these debilitating meds the rest of her life because I could not afford chemo or surgery, which certainly could've shortened her life as one of them affected the brain. Which she told me to discuss surgery with my family if my dog actually did not pass in the next few days. She traumatized me for no reason & completely disregarded not only the chocolate toxicity but the fact that there could be anything else at all that could be the cause of her symptoms. And she was dead wrong! Please DO NOT take your pet to this emergency veterinary clinic because unless you have a lot of medical knowledge yourself, your animal could be misdiagnosed, untreated for what is really wrong, & possibly lose their life because of this! With all my heart I wish I'd held out until morning when my regular vet opened so that I wasn't forced to throw away $345 & get zero relief or treatment for my dog. I'm considering suing them for my money back & what they put my dog & myself through. I took my dog in as an emergency because her chocolate toxicity symptoms were severe & she was even convulsing on & off as well as shaking uncontrollably. I was afraid she was dying from this toxicity but thank God she wasn't because this vet did absolutely NOTHING for her chocolate toxicity because she misdiagnosed her & refused to listen to reason & consider that the toxicity was responsible. Had she died I would have already retained an attorney. But right now I am concerned for all the other innocent animals who might find themselves in need of emergency medical services. They will NOT receive proper treatment from this veterinarian at this facility! PLEASE do your research & take them to a much more professional clinic with vets who won't stereotype & actually consider all circumstances before diagnosing & who will give your animal proper treatment!

I recently lost my beloved 6 year old cat at MedVet after his 4 day stay there…read more That loss was very difficult and painful enough, but the over $12,000.00 vet bill for his care and stay made his death much, much worse due to the sad simple fact that MedVet does not offer either any kind of a bereavement discount if your pet dies in their care or any kind of a discount to seniors living on a limited income. Those types of compassionate discounts are something that they very seriously need to think about offering. I think it would seriously help with their ratings (and their ratings could frankly use some help). I honestly do trust that they did everything possible to save my cats life and they all appeared very professional, very caring, compassionate and concerned. However, their billing policies shows very clearly that their final bottom line is that they are very much a "for-profit business" and you should have no illusions about that if you take your pet there for help. The first thing they ask about after getting your name and your pets name and why you are there, is your credit card information. One final thought......please carefully look over their other reviews here (I sincerely wish I had before I took my poor cat there) and then think about what you have read in these reviews a bit and then honestly ask yourself: "Why are so, so many of their reviews only one star?" T.S.
