A solid spot to bring family or for a nice date night out. They have a set price menu serving one thing: steak and fries. There's a vegetarian alternative too. There's no options for what kind of steak. The steak itself was thinner than I anticipated but delicious, and the best part is when you're finished with your first plate they refill your steak and fries. Now let's get to the chocolate cake-- you must try it !! So warm and delectable and perfect you can't leave here without having some. It's nice that everyone's meals cost the same so if you go with a big group it's easy to take care of the tab read more

Yikes. After great memories from a previous brunch here at this location (admittedly, a long while back), we made a reservation for 12:30 on a Saturday for bottomless brunch for six. $32/pp gets you bread, starter (fruit, yogurt parfait, or salad) and choice of brunch entrée. There are some sweet options (i.e., French toast), but most tend to go for Steak Frites, Steak & Eggs, or Eggs Benedict. We were seated in a side "room" - not entirely closed off, but walled off/partitioned from the "main" dining area. It felt oddly dark for the middle of the day (we were relatively close to the window) and the extremely lively conversation coming from the table behind us bounced right off the partition and back into the space, making it pretty impossible to carry on conversation without almost shouting. We were surprised to see that the main dining area was almost completely empty when we finally left - that's how loud it was in the area we were in. You're likely to be in this area if your party is more than 4 people. But the main issue with this visit was the service, or really the lack thereof. After an encouraging start obtaining our drink orders, a request for more bread was positively acknowledged but ultimately ignored by our server (I would have paid for it as an extra, but we were not even given six pieces for the six people at the table, so we felt the request was reasonable). Starters and entrees came out rather quickly, though there was at least a few minutes gap between us finishing starters and entrees dropping. The food was solid (I can't remember a meal at Medium Rare that wasn't tasty), though we all commented that frites portions could have been slightly more generous. Eventually, I flagged our server down to switch from a screwdriver to a mimosa, but then we struggled to find him again for another round of mimosas for the rest of the table. After we finished eating, a food runner provided a carafe of mimosas for the table and our server finally circled back to take more screwdriver orders (last time, our excellent server just dropped two bottles of sparkling wine at our table and we were very content for the duration). My partner did order a draft beer (not included in the bottomless price and so we expected a charge), but we we nonetheless took note of its $10 price. We were verbally offered a choice of 5 desserts, but no menu to read them off of. It was hard to hear what the server was saying over the din when he was describing the desserts. Ultimately, we went elsewhere for dessert, but it was just strange that we couldn't read them off a menu somewhere. That all stated, I love Medium Rare for dinner (especially in Cleveland Park), and I think going forward I'll just stick with dinner service. read more

Pretty cool concept, you can have anything you want to eat, as long as its steak, fries, and salad. With this setup, it better be really good, and it definitely lived up to expectations. For $20, you start with a freshly tossed salad (mixed greens, tomatoes, and Dijon vinaigrette), and good, warm crusty bread (butter was cold though). The entrée is sliced culotte with a killer sauce and handcut fries. You even get a complimentary second helping of steak and fries which was nice. For dessert (not included), got the sundae and it was good. Lots of whipped cream, candied walnuts, hot fudge, and vanilla ice cream. Should have gotten the key lime pie since they get it from Pie Sisters. read more

This location isn't as great as the one in DC. The food is similar and that's the only reason I'm giving them 3 stars. The service was SO SLOW and the food took forever to come out that by the time it did, my friends and I felt full from the mimosas. It's bottomless mimosas for brunch but even that took several askings from servers to refill our glasses. Their sauce is pretty popular so I was excited, although this time it was super salty. I would say vibe and I'd be down to try it again for maybe dinner but not necessarily brunch again at that location... read more

Medium Rare - Steakhouses Near Me - Bethesda, Maryland

A bit pricey but I enjoyed the steak. The sauce was good. The fries were average. Overall a decent place.

First time here and it was a great experience. No need to decide what you are having, as dinner is bread, salad, steak and fries. It was crowded, but our server is great. The food was delicious, and we had plenty of steak to take home. Another thing I liked: the whole staff work well together to ensure an enjoyable experience. If you have an empty plate, a passing busboy or waiter will take it. The chocolate cake for dessert was HUGE and delicious read more

Wow! I have never had a manager (we named, the pink shirt guy) try to get us out of our table. We had only been there for 45mins on a Friday night @ 7:15. He came by three times, did we want another drink? Did we want a box? Did we want the check? I'm sorry but it was just plain rude. Not a welcoming experience for our out of town guest. read more

I went for brunch and the food was delicious. A steak and bottomless mimosas in this price range is an amazing deal. Very excited to go again! read more

The concept of this restaurant is really brilliant - one menu, you get a salad, fries, and the steak (with seconds of fries and steak if you want it). We were confused the first time we went in, but after going there 4-5 times now, it's actually kind of relieving to just walk in and know what you're getting! We come in, we know exactly what to expect, and they run like a factory because it's all they do all day every day. The food itself is generally delicious. My wife wasn't a steak eater, but somehow this place turned her around. I think it was the smaller thin slices that got her + way it matches the sauce to melt in your mouth. It's also a nice fun atmosphere which I'm sure helps. The fries are always nice and fresh as they're walking around dishing it to tables constantly, and usually the steak is very very good. There were a few times were it was a little bit tougher than others, and that's where it loses a star for me. Since this is the only thing the place serves, I expected the same level of tastiness over and over but a few times the quality dipped. Having moved out of the area, we crave and miss Medium Rare and will be visiting it any time we're near it in the future! It's worth the stop. read more

The Bethesda location delivered Thanksgiving meals to seniors over 70 who would be alone for the holiday. What a gracious gesture to those who are home bound due to the corona virus. The food was a wonderful traditional Thanksgiving meal: turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, cooked carrots, gravy, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie, and original children's artwork on a Thanksgiving card. Plus I it was delivered by the sweetest two children. Even with multiple locations, they are the epitome of a neighborhood spot. read more

A Saturday Night $#!÷show. Waited 30 min for table, even though we had a reservation. Another 20 for anyone to stop by. Salad plates were hot. Some doofus Manager came by late in the meal and was annoying with his apologies. I'm done with this dump. read more

I would totally recommend this place! I went there and enjoyed the food very much. They had a good selection of food and it all was fantastic! They steak was what I got and it was cooked perfectly and the salad which I think came with it was also prepared well. I would go back there many times more and again would totally recommend eating there! read more

Don't know what the hype is all about? Went for brunch today. Had to ask for drinks 3 times before they were finally brought. Fruit salad, melons was under ripe and lacked flavor. Both our Eggs Benedict was cold, had to send back. 2nd time was very salty. Was never checked on during the meal. Empty glasses sat and we had to ask for refills (coffee and water). Was there for my birthday, I regret picking this restaurant to celebrate a rare kid free lunch. read more

I have been to the Medium Rare for Bethesda location 3 times, once at the Ballston location, and Cleveland Park at least 4 times. I have to say there's a significant difference between the quality of the foods in the locations, which may need some attention. I absolutely love Medium rare's simple menu, its sauce, the quality of the meat, and the quick service. However, I think Bethesda's location is overall lacking compared to the other locations. I came here for dinner with one other friend 2 times, and it has been the same. The sauce isn't as generously poured or given, and the quality of the meat seems lacking for some reason. The service was fine. My most recent visit was for Brunch. First, I want to say that I personally wouldn't go to brunch for Medium Rare again. The items on the menu seem somewhat limited and aren't great. I came with a group of 6 and we ordered the french toast, the regular steak frites they serve for dinner, the benedict, and the steak and eggs. The french toast was fine, but rather an oddity in the menu since it didnt' have anything else. The benedict's appearance looked rather sloppy, but my friend actually enjoyed it so perhaps it's not a bad choice. The steak and eggs were mediocre according to my other friend. However, my biggest disappointment was the steak frites. For some reason, it was a bit cold when it arrived...and there wasn't much sauce given with it. But worst of all...they didn't serve another serving of the steak frites like the usually do. I'm a bit confused as to why that's so...but I have to say I felt robbed from the usual experience. If you want to have the true Medium Rare experience, I would suggest going for dinner. I still love Medium Rare, but I think the Bethesda location could do better. read more

We had an amazing Saturday night dinner. Steak was perfectly cooked and the sauces, fries, salad, add bread were all top notch. Our server Max was attentive and friendly. They don't mention it in the menu but they bring out a second portion of steak and fries for you which is an incredible value. My partner is vegan and the vegan "steak" made from mushrooms was the best vegan option they had ever had. Apple pie for dessert was a perfect finish to the evening. Great environment and unobtrusive music meant we could hear each other. This place just became our new go to spot! read more

I never go back to any of Medium Rare restaurants. I will tell you, those who are leaving positive reviews about the food, your taste buds are dead. As soon as I had the first bite of the meat, I was 100% disappointed. Nothing special. The meat from Costco and Whole Foods are way much better and cheaper. I did not realize how small the meat portion was from the pictures. Take a close look. You see how thin the meat is. I guess it's 3 oz for the most while the typical "steak" served in the restaurants is at least 8 oz. Not enough seasoning if they did any, that "secret sauce" is just gravy anyone can make at home, just regular fries (again, Five Guys' are much better), and too runny poached egg (the preference is totally subjective though, I used the spoon I got for my coffee to eat them). They don't charge much, however, $24.95 is still too expensive for what you get. Also, I did not get the second piece of meat. Was it because it was brunch? Furthermore, the service was not good. The server did not refill my coffee until I asked (three times). And this is why I don't trust the reviews for the restaurants. read more

Came here for Mother's Day and it was PACKED. All of Bethesda pulled up to this joint fr. I applaud the waiters and chefs for not losing their sanity. I watched them indefinitely chop pieces of bread and steak DIAGONALLY and delicately portion out eggs on a spoon from five feet away. I witnessed a plate of fries fall to their death due to an unfortunate (but inevitable) miscalculation of space. The meal itself is small (by American standards) if u just get steak frites. I got the steak and eggs and it's basically the same amount of steak and fries + extra protein. I went a few months ago and they gave out double servings, might be only for dinner idk. I'd feel like a menace though if I burdened the service into pampering me with a second serving. Decent environment. Delicious food. Cool experience! Give these people a nice tip! read more

An unexpected concept for a restaurant. They serve ONE MEAL: dinner salad, culotte cut of steak with a special sauce topping, and seasoned fries, all for (currently) $22.95. Decent beer selection as well as several dessert options (at additional charge). Six of us ate for about $200 with tip. The food was delicious, the waitstaff helpful and friendly, and the environment casual without being raucous. The dining space is small, so call ahead of make a reservation (though we were able to get our table on Saturday night at 1830 with no problem). They do have a weekend brunch, but I haven't tried that, so can't comment. This is a clever addition to the multitude of Bethesda dining options. Great option for someone who wants a quick, easy, delicious meal. read more

Been here multiple times and love it everytime. Great food, vibes and service. Only thing, the manager seems to give me dirty looks and does not greet me. This has happened multiple times. read more

Always good. Decently priced. Their brunch is also good. Pretty much same menu but with unlimited mimosas!

Went here on Sunday for brunch on 4/18/21 and ate outdoors. It was chilly outside but the food and drinks were very good. Nick, our server, was attentive and offered us a blanket - albeit for $5. Most got the Steak and Eggs and were happy. I got the French Toast which was delicious. The bottomless drinks equates to 3 drinks over the course of the meal which was also fair. Would definitely recommend and go back next time we're in the area. read more

Maybe it's just me but I don't like being limited to one option. I didn't pick the place so it was kinda surprising for me to get there and having to eat a standard piece of meat with fries. Not bad, but not my favorite, their sauce tasted a lot like raw flour and felt gritty on the mouth. The servers weren't that nice, they had the "ok eat and get out of here" attitude. Maybe I went at the wrong time, but I'm not planning on going back either. I just wasn't impressed. read more

Terrific every time. The salad steak and fries came out as usual very crisp salad steak cooked the way we like it and seconds of course until we were stuffed. The crowd was lively, and they were busy, but we were able to get a table on Sunday night of memorial day weekend fairly easily. I'll always return to medium rare even though they cook my steaks medium, just the way I like them. read more

Went about three times here. Two for brunch and one time for dinner. They have incredible fries and the steak is cooked perfectly. Its competitively priced and consistently good quality. Their hours are limited to only dinner and brunch so look out for that. The staff is incredible, perfectly attentive with awesome humor and personality. read more

This place is great. Steak, potatoes, salad. Woo hoo! One thing: don't be afraid to go medium or medium well. I know there are people who must have pink steak but I'm not one of them and these steaks are fairly thin so you can go medium and it won't be tough. read more

After hearing all the hype, I decided to check out Medium Rare on my last trip home to Bethesda. This innovative concept in the DC region boasts 4 locations, with the Bethesda one being the newest I believe. I was able to snag a 7:15 reservation on OpenTable at the last minute, which was somewhat surprising for a holiday weekend evening. We were running a little bit late, and after calling the restaurant, they were very accommodating. When we arrived, we were seated immediately at a table adorned with white butcher paper stamped with the Medium Rare logo emblazoned in red. As it was my first time, the server gave a brief overview of how their pre-fixe menu works. For around $20 bucks per person, you get bread, a salad, and two servings of steak and fries. The initial serving comes pre-plated, and about 10 minutes later, they return to your table carrying additional steak to put on your plate as well as a pan of fresh fries. They definitely have their system down pat--they use a grid diagram they draw on your table with a crayon to denote how each member of your party would like their steak cooked. The service was quick, almost machine-like. We enjoyed the fresh bread, delicious salad (good size), and steak prepared medium. The steak comes sliced and covered in their "secret sauce," which tasted kind-of mushroomy to me. I thought the steak was quite good but didn't know the sauce was going to be put on the steak in the kitchen. I was misled by seeing the other tables who had a metal container of sauce and ladle, which they bring out when they give you seconds on the steak. Next time, I would ask for sauce on the side from the start, as I wasn't a big fan. The fries were good but no better than those that I have had at other steakhouses. At the end, we were offered the dessert menu but decided to pass as we were stuffed. My take on this place is that it is a great newer addition to Bethesda. Come here for the value, but don't expect the most amazing steak frites you've ever had in your life. You won't be disappointed by the food, though. I will definitely be back to try the brunch, especially the yummy looking french toast. The one main downside is that for dinner, all they really have is the steak option. I have a lot of friends and family members with dietary restrictions and preferences that I wouldn't be able to bring here. When I called to ask about what else they could prepare for someone, they said they do have a portabello mushroom, but this isn't on the menu. Just something to keep in mind. read more

The steak special was phenomenal! The host and manager left a lot to be desired. We get that you're busy, you're having a great special. That said, your host and one of your management members were highly unprofessional. There was no call for rude and even aggressive treatment my friend was given. She asked about being seated and though we had a large group (16 people), all but 2 were there. (They were parking). She was spoken back to in a manner unbecoming a manager. Very short and in a manner that you should never talk customer. Especially when that customer was being very polite. We found the hostess to be very unprofessional as when she wanted us to move, she instructed us to " go wait over by the bar" by waving her hands up over her head and point behinder her. Was just all really unprofessional. While the steak was good, it's not good enough for the drop in professionalism. My wife and I won't be back. read more

Watched them way way over serve a group kids at brunch. I say kids because they may have been 19 at most. Girls were growing up. Could not stand. And I watched one fall on the floor several times. Very sad and scary situation. The wait staff were all coked out. They were hitting hard on the drunk girls and not paying attention to any other tables. Needless to say service was horrible. Had to wait 20 min for coffee. Then we got half mugs because they had run out and had to brew more. We never got anymore coffee. Whoever owns this place needs to be aware of this. Will not be going back. read more

Honestly, I wanted to have so much fun but the manager would not let us. She was so rude as she told me that I had to "sit down and enjoy my brunch" after my first drink at a "bottomless brunch." However, all of my guy friends were fed with champagne bottles, while we were met with eye rolls after every order. Also, as we were waiting for a table, the workers told us to drink our drink before she saw us. We had just gotten to the restaurant. There is no reason that we all should be in a terrified, hostile environment at 1 PM on a Saturday. If you're a girl, would not recommend this place. Maybe go to the DC one. read more

I had brunch there when it first opened with a few of my girlfriends. I think the drinks and meat just didn' have the same quality as the one in Cleveland Park. They accommodated us with strollers and all. I liked the convenience of the location and it was easy to find parking in the new part of the area. The decor also looked a bit stark in the broad daylight, looked like it was designed for the night time. read more

First visit here and I thought the whole experience was exceptional. From the moment we entered and were greeted by the elegant Marina to the impeccable service offered by the the very friendly and handsome Nick, we thought this was not just the best deal in the Greater WashingtonDC area, but also a memorable and special occasion. The salad was perfectly and lightly dressed, but the pommel frites and delicious steak ,with its refined sauce ,were superb. What a pleasant surprise when the attentive assistant server returned with another course of steak and more wonderful French fries- and a small bucket of that sauce. This was impressive. I do not know how they can make a profit! Now that we may dine inside in Bethesda, this will be the place I will return to really soon. read more

I've been here for both brunch and late dinner and have never seen this place terribly busy. Both are prix fixe menus, but I prefer this place for steak dinner because I'd go elsewhere for bottomless brunch. The steak is really delicious and portions are huge - as others have said, during dinner they'll give you a giant slice and then follow up with another equally sized portion after you've finished. If you're still hungry after that, you can get a third portion for an additional $10. They will also bring by additional helpings of frites. Quality is good and service has always been attentive for me. read more

Top recommendation for inexpensive steak dinner. This is a place where price meets quality At the exact right point. 1. They only have steak. 2. They bring it to you in waves... so don't freak out when you see your first half portion come out... there is a second act and it is meaty and glorious. 3. Don't forget you can order this as takeout too, we have done that a bunch of times, also. One critique is that it can get pretty loud in the space. Not sure what the restaurant can do about the acoustics, but it can be a tad hard to have a dinner conversation in here if it's a busy night. read more

Yummy! I've had this place bookmarked for quite sometime now. Just never had the chance of visiting until their Bethesda location came around. Location is good. Parking's not to bad. The menu is preset for around $20 which includes warm rustic bread and sea salted butter, a house salad that's fresh and aromatic from the mustard and steak with frites. The way this restaurant works is QUITE similar to the famous, "Le Relais de I'Entrecote" in Paris, France! What a pleasant surprise! Brought me back to Europe. You get half your steak and frites first time around and then they'll come back around with the 2nd portion. The plus side to this way of serving, food comes out hot the 2nd time around instead of getting to it when it's cooled down. Overall, the food was delicious and you can't beat the price. Downside, the sauce is a little too thick for my liking. The one is Europe is a little bit runnier and flavorful in my opinion. Oh and as far our waiter? He seemed very rushed. Had no time for answering questions or being pestered for water. read more

I went to medium rare for a friend's surprise brunch event. We got a table for about 15 people it was very nice our waiter i think his name was raj* he was very nice and welcoming he did an amazing job for a table who kept moving from own sit to another that was our fault. It was $25 for brunch and bottomless mimosas I chose a salad, and steak and eggs The salad was good it was not a lot though, it only had 3-4 pieces of tomatoes... which made me sad cus i love them. Steak and eggs was decent i got my steak well done because why would i eat a live cow. Anyways it was sort of dry.. and it was small i was imagining a large portion for the price that i was paying came to the conclusion that we are mostly paying for the alcohol... our table did get tons of mimosas so again thanks raj for always bringing out a new pitcher or mimosas. We had a ice cream cake for the birthday girl it had like a sparkler which was cute the ice cream was amazingly delicious. As mentioned in another review the tip was automatically added due to our large party. Overall nice ambient good mimosas only down side the food.. i was not a big fan of for the amount i paid. read more
