First time visit and came here with my dad. I was surprised to see them open on July 4 and national holiday. I ordered the shish kebab plate with lamb, and included- salad, hummus, rice pilaf, and a few pita slices. The grass fed lamb was great and one of the best I've had. Only negative is you only get one kebab not like they do in some other similar places u get 2. My dad got the chicken plate and everything was good but the chicken. It was dry and didn't have much flavor, I recommend ordering the lamb. Overall, great day experience and the service was good. read more

It is just slightly off the busy Burlingame ave so the foot traffic is definitely less which is nice. We got a salad, kofta, and mixed grill plate to try a little bit of everything. The whole family love the kofta and I really enjoyed the salad as well. The guy behind the cash register which I assume is the manager or owner was super friendly and nice. There are quite a few Mediterranean places on the Peninsula. Would Mediterranean Kitchen be able to stand out from the crowd? For its falafels and baklava alone, oh yes. We ordered dolmas, the combo platter, and an order of falafels. There's currently a Yelp check in deal for free baklava. The guy was super nice and gave us an extra so we wouldn't have to share. We are so glad he did because this is seriously one of the best baklava we've had. I'd happily order a tray of baklava for myself without the Yelp check in deal. The falafels are also some of the best falafels. Fried just right where it's crispy on the outside and fluffy but not dry at all. The addition of parsley or some herb to the mixture gives it an added dimension. The hummus is also fantastic. You can really taste and smell the aroma from the tahini. We'll definitely be back to try more things and get some more baklava. read more

WON'T BE BACK! I'd never tried this place before but the reviews looked good and I didn't want to cook, so I ordered takeout -- chicken souvlaki and tzatziki. When I started eating the chicken, I noticed that it felt too rubbery -- clearly it was underdone. Unfortunately, I'd already swallowed several bites of it, but I hoped for the best. However, when I brushed my teeth afterwards, I rinsed out my mouth and saw an unusual droplet of water in the bowl. To my horror, the droplet burst, and I watched as a very, very small black worm/slug emerged from it. I realized then that the droplet wasn't a droplet; it was an EGG! (I'm guessing it was in the cukes and peppers.) Predictably, within hours I was in the bathroom with food poisoning and unrelenting diarrhea that lasted for days. To reiterate: I. WON'T. BE. Food here was fast, fresh, and delicious. It was a beautiful day in Burlingame as it often is so we sat outside. I ordered the chicken Shawarma plate and it was so yummy. Meat was perfectly cooked and seasoned, rice was nice and fluffy, and hummus was delicious. The hummus was a little on the runnier side for me, but it still tasted very good. Baby got the chicken and French fry plate and he loved it too. Service was friendly. You order at the counter and they give you a number and bring it to you. Bussers were very nice and attentive. Mediterranean Kitchen is such a much needed gem in Burlingame. While Mediterranean restaurants are not hard to find in Burlingame (just Broadway alone has 3-4) finding a good one can be difficult. I've been to Mediterranean Kitchen three times in a two week span. I was amazed by their juicy flavorful chicken souvlaki. They use Mary's organic chicken and the plate is huge. Tender chunks of chicken, lots of fluffy flavorful rice, perfectly grilled veggies, a side salad, and creamy hummus with fluffy pita. One day my husband wanted to get take out, but I wasn't craving the chicken, so I got the falafel wrap. I thought to myself, ok, we know the chicken is really good, so the falafels must be the one that falls short. Nope! Their falafels are moist on the inside while still holding the crunchiness on the outside. The wrap was super filling as well and came with extra tahini. Hubs has also tried their chicken gyro plate. While the souvlaki is the winner the chicken gryo's shaved meat was nice and moist and still flavorful. Mediterranean Kitchen serves up healthy and delicious Mediterranean cuisine. As my dad shuffled past a beautiful Christmas tree thru the doors of Mediterranean Kitchen, he choose a booth towards the back which fit everyone perfectly and supported us well. I think the staff saw that he was not steady on his feet, he looked like he needed comfort and food, stat. My mom was looking glamorous as usual but she also was needing nourishment. I was pleasantly surprised by the booth seating, as booths are usually a problem for some of us - they can be either too soft, or not wide enough. The service: you could not ask for a classier, personable staff from the hosts and waitstaff to the chefs. We weren't dressed to the nines, but were treated like we were human beings, nay, we were treated like honored guests, which fills one's spirit instead of sapping it, darlings. Take notes there's more. Orders are taken either by QR code at your table or at the counter and both methods seem just as frequently used by customers. To establish the theme on flavors for today's dining experience, let's start with the fact that the chicken gyro was tender, seasoned just right, and a winner. Want lamb? My dad devoured his kofte plate like there was no tomorrow, and still had leftover lamb (probably because he consumed so much pita bread, but I digress). Needing to adjust your plate? My sis got exactly what she wanted: a generous bowl of hummus with chicken gyro atop and pita bread, opting out of things she didn't want to eat. Want to spice things up for your meal? My mom loved the spicy muhammara: it boosted her immune system, we were sure of this. She had the lamb and chicken gyro plate. I got the chicken gyro plate and cleaned it well. The rice was beautiful: light and perfectly fluffy. The hummus was smooth, creamy, and just lovely. The salad was fresh and crisp, and ASMR-enhanced by the crunchy lettuce and cucumbers. Everything is clean and fresh, down to something as straightforward as a glass of water with a little slice of freshly cut lemon. Extra important: the glasses didn't taste of soap or food or grime (that's a gripe we have had with other restaurants that I'll never review, this is a happy review profile) and they were clean, clean, clean. Everything was clean. It's one thing to be served free pita with the sides of tzatziki, muhammara, and baba ghanoush. My dad went after about 6 slices of little pitas, and scooped up everything not spicy of the free appetizers. Turkish teas and dessert, on the house! What? Aww they didn't have to do that! My dad had gotten out of the booth looking like he was ready to go, but when he saw the tea and dessert, he sat down at an adjacent table all happy. I think this is a sign that means you really need tea and dessert after your meals here. It's a must. The pastry was made by the chef with care and penache. We felt all cozy and content, sipping our delicious hot tea that smelled so good, balanced by the sweetness of our dessert. The dessert looked like baklava, yet it was rolled up though like a cigar. I called back and the restaurant owners said it was Kadayif, ahhh. We noted that the staff greeted returning customers with a warm recognition, and a special warmth for new visitors. The place was spacious, warm inside where we sat, and outside (the lamp heaters kept people comfy outdoors). This was about establishing a real connection with us as patrons, and we took notice of that. They chose to continue making sure all patrons had what they needed and wanted. I love that so much. If you can turn four people with grumbling tummies and totally different foodie preferences into content kiddos, I say you're doing something right. read more

We had a party of 5 at MK. They accommodated us and were extremely polite and patient to one of us who had food allergies. The food was amazing, I went for the Chicken Gyro Entree which features rice, salad, and hummus. They also brought out pita bread for the table. I love that the food is healthy, filling, and most importantly tasty. We also had the opportunity to try a couple of baked goods that they offer. I highly recommend the baklava for a post dinner treat. Also, if you're feeling adventurous I suggest trying the Turkish coffee, which is more like an espresso that's full bodied and slightly unfiltered. It was an experience that I began to like more with each sip. If you're a real bold coffee drink I recommend this. Not for those who prefer creamer with a splash of coffee lol. OVERALL: I was excited to try this place but found it just okay. The people are nice but the food is pricey and not really worth it. If a friend wanted to go, I would go back with them but it's not a place I would go back to on my own. FOOD: We got the chicken gyro plate, falafel, and greek fries. I was disappointed they were out of the loukoumades. The fries had good flavor but were super limp and a bit soggy. Not very fresh. The falafel was good but they're small pieces. In the plate, the salad was fresh and the chicken was good. I liked that their chicken was full chicken pieces, rather than traditional strips of gyro style meat. The rice was average, and hummus was disappointing. For the price, the portions are small, especially compared to other Mediterranean restaurants in the area. SPACE: I love this restaurant space. This spot has changed restaurants many times over the years but they have always kept the space the same. You walk up and order at the counter and seat yourself. They have indoor seating and a covered patio outside. There's street parking and a large parking lot across the street. SERVICE: They are currently doing take out and delivery through DoorDash. Boy- I'm sorry. This place didn't work for me. I stay one night a week in Burlingame and trying to find me go to and it's been complete failure. The chicken was dry and tasteless, hummus - passable as a liquid, pita-yikes! Ordered side of fries, which might have been good if they'd been seasoned and perhaps packaged correctly. In any case, this place did convince me to give up - I'm a foodie, looking for variety but I think I've decided everything in Burlingame is like third rate so might as well save my money and go to chains. Interestingly my first night in the are - I witnessed a many miles long line of cars and was trying to figure what they ere waiting for - turned out to by in and out burger, which I know is popular but hasn't struck me as anything special now I understand - relative to the choices in the area, I'm guessing in and out is best bet for the area. My husband and I came in here last Saturday for lunch. Best Decision Ever. These guys are doing it right. I ordered the Falafel wrap and it was delicious. Loaded with veggies and the Tahini was excellent. I also ordered green tea which comes as a pot of tea with the cutest cup ever. I would love to have a set of these cups. My husband ordered the Grilled Seafood Plate. It was swordfish, prawns, rice and a salad. My husband is very picky and he loved this. The flavor of the fish was delicious, the rice was moist and he even liked the salad. Good portions and it comes with pita bread. I also liked that the bathrooms are more like your home bathroom than a commercial bathroom. They had nice hand soap and lotion. 2 families or a 7 of us gathered for a casual dinner on a Tuesday night. For a Tuesday night, the restaurant was fairly busy at 6:30pm indoor/outdoor tables maybe 65%? filled. You order at a counter and pay upon which you get a number placard you place on a table you choose. Then waiter brings you your order - that style where you don't have to deal with who picks up the tab. We did not order online but directly by choosing off the menu up on their wall while in line. Our orders were: 2 falafel plates, 2 lamb kabobs plate, 2 lamb/beef plates: 1 stuffed eggplant plate - in other words, not al carte but full entrees. They were out of draft beer so few got bottled beer. The point here is - we are getting dinners not snacks. And we were prepared to order more food if portion size appeared small. It's our first time here. Our plates are delivered by 2 waiters staggered in timing by within 5 minutes for the entire table so all fine. There's no concept of a bread basket in which for 7 dinner plates we get 2 little baskets of pita bread. Each basket contains one pita cut into quarters. So 2 pita breads for 7 entrees. This is when I stopped to wonder maybe the house special falafel plate is an appetizer not a meal. Wondering if enough I dig into my falafel plate and reach to have 2 quarters of a pita bread. We quickly run out of pita bread so I run back to the cashier to place 2 orders of pita breads which takes a long wait because now a new line - in previous line we waited but did not mind as we were looking at the menu to decide but now a big family with a toddler is before me so I pretty much missed 10 min or so of dinner conversation stuck in line. I go back to the table to rejoin. But cannot proceed eating the falafels without the pita as the 2 standard hummus and babaganoush are salty (as they should be so that part is fine) and falafels are smaller than other places so you need that pita to eat with and so ... left to just wait. It's taking much longer than expected so I go back to the counter to remind but again a wall of another set of people ordering ... ugh. I pretty much never got to eat relaxed or enjoy my company- at this point is asked to rate I probably give 2 stars. But The good lady taking the order probably realized our predicament- later 2 baskets of pita - so that's 2 pitas cut in quarters come out - and the waiter says it's on the house. Kind of made up - Then 6 pieces of baklava and 6 cups of tea came out on the house. There's 7 of us so one missing but not about to mention that given the circumstances- so guess who says she's on a diet and passed up the favor and tea at the table - yeh it's me. Okay so headcount is 7 but Never mind that - it's the thought that counts... right? It's a good gesture to make up - yet I kind of felt like a martyr who missed out on dinner conversations and the sweets and tea but it's good that they care about the patrons. Perhaps they were just short handed. So with that benefit of a doubt i give a decent rating. The food itself was fine as far as what we ordered. The spirit appears lively. Sorry no photos as I was too busy trying to catch up with rest of the table or trying to get the staff's attention. Lol I really hope if there's a next time I can relax and savor the meal... oh btw their sweets looked enticing. (I would recommend to the restaurant to just serve one pita bread each for their falafel plate like most other places do.
