Gyro House - Lamb Gyro Sandwich - I had already taken several bites before I thought to take a photo. It's still loaded with meat and toppings.

First time here today. The ambiance is ok. Service was rushed and awkward. The food was ok. We…read moreordered a lamb gyros platter and a Kofta platter. No Kofta so ordered 2 lamb gyros platters. Server asked what we wanted on our salad. 5 seconds after looking to see what was offered, he asked" Traditional?" We said yes. It was Literally slopped on to-go plated with tongs. Slapped / Slopped ... then the rice was slapped on with a serving spoon. Then the gyros was grabbed with a gloved had and thrown on top of everything. Asked if we wanted sauce. I asked if it was Tzatziki. Yes he said. We both wanted it. Dipper dumped over everything. This isn't my first time having Mediterranean food. The lamb gyros was some kind of ground meat mixture that was thin sliced to resemble Gyros actually cut off of a vertical rotisserie. There was no lamb flavor at all. I ordered a side of falafels. He pulled out a container that had a little mixture in it and said he didn't have enough. He asked if we wanted drinks. My wife didn't. I asked if he had mint yogurt drink. He said " You want drink?" I said yes if you have it. He entered everything and took my money. I waited for the mint yogurt drink. He looked at me like what are you waiting for? I said the yogurt drink. He handed me a fountain drink cup and pointed to the soda fountain. Needless to say it was only a typical soda fountain. The pita bread was pretty good! The food wasn't bad, just didn't have the lamb flavor I was expecting. The yellow rice was decent, and the explosion of salad was disjointed but fresh. And there are Egyptian picture on the walls. I would go back though. I just know what to expect now.

Does the place have something new and unique to a very stale and unimaginative local cuisine? Yes. Never had an issue with the staff. Food is fast and hot. Vegetables were also fresh. Family owned and operated. More foot traffic would help keep things fresh, but I have liked everything I've tried. My family likes the Philly Steak and fries, I go for the lamb shawarma every time. Is it New York or Chicago heavy foot traffic kind of place, no. I like it because it's a wonderful change from the same old, same old of a small rural town.

I think there is a price difference of a couple dollars. The portion of gyro meat with both the sandwich and the platter is very generous. I actually got two meals off the platter. The place is small but it's big enough and bright and clean. The owner is super friendly, but since they're preparing things as you order, service isn't the fastest but maybe that's better. He prepared the fries and my chicken wings to order as well as the meat whether it be lamb or chicken. In addition to chicken and lamb gyros, they have a variety of platters; kofta, falafel, shawarma, grilled shrimp and Philly beef. Don't know about the last one, I guess it could be good. The lamb tasted great, no gaminess at all, the vegetables were fresh and the tzatziki sauce tied everything together for a delicious bite. The rice and salad were great compliments to my gyro platter. On an impulse, I got the wings, and after one bite was ecstatic that I did. They did not look like they were gonna be good and maybe to others they may not be. I think they're frozen out of a big bag, pre-made just need to throw it in the fryer for a few minutes. Anyway it had this weird orange hue to it just like the friend chicken from Pioneer Chicken . If you grew up on the west coast or Hawaii that was the competing friend chicken chain to KFC. I think there's only one restaurant left in Los Angeles. This fried chicken still haunts my dreams, I have half a mind to road trip it to California for a family pack of delicious fried chicken. Sorry, I digress. Anyway this fried chicken wings tasted a whole lot like Pioneer Chicken. As I started this review, best gyros in the area, plus their rice wrapped in grape leaves and the baklava were very good.
