I tried 4 tacos of different meat types to see what this place is all about. The fish taco was excellent! The fish itself was not battered but well seasoned and cooked perfectly. The shrimp taco... same! Delicious! The chorizo taco... also delicious! And my personal fave was the lengua (beef tongue) which I'm always a fan of. The prices were fair enough and I was pretty satisfied with my meal and the huge basket of tortillas and complimentary salsa they served. I am in the area for work and had a taste for Mexican food. Tried to call in an order and no one answered. So, I figured I would just stop in and grab it on my way to my hotel. Then I had to pay, and when I tell you the old man behind the counter was not happy or interested in me trying to pay for my food. I was clearly interrupting his novela time on his phone. Well our food was truly delicious and very generous portions. Make sure to order the tomatillo salsa if you're craving something different than the red salsa they serve with the chips. You may find Mi Ranchito a little off the beaten path, but it is worth the trip down Carter Road. There is ample parking on both sides of the building. They have a large L-shaped dining room that doesn't feel crowded even with a large party. The menu is quite extensive, so you may want to take a few minutes to look it over. My personal favorite is the chicken fajitas. I don't know what they season them with, but they are perfect!!! When I arrived to this store, it wasn't as busy as usual, which I guess is a good thing, because after me and my family sat down, my toddler brothers food was brought out, just fries because he's a picky eater, HOWEVER, that is NOT what he received, he told us the fries were good the first few bites, then, he saw something a little extra crispy, and can you guess what it was? a ROACH, a choking hazard, he told us "there's a bug in my food.." and at first we didn't believe him, until we pulled it out, and when we asked about it, the waitress picked it up, looked at it funny and brought it took the back as if he was checking if it was their species of infestation and took it to the back. Tonight was our last night at Mi Ranchitos. Me and the boys like many nights stopped to have a late dinner. They took our order brought our drinks back and khelin had a short straight hair on his cup, no biggie called the server over. He takes the water, cool. He brings back a water I'm thinking alright we're cool. Khelin looks at the rim of his cup and it's lip stick and a hunk of what looks to be food on the rim of the cup. Khelin's 11 so two incidents, is really pushing it at this point him and kameron are grossed out. I'm thinking okay maybe they have a new dishwasher. Few minutes pass and out comes our food, it looks delicious! Me and the boys are starving so we're about to dig in and khelin pulls a long straight grey hair out of his food. Everyone knows we ALL HAVE CURLY HAIR! So now I'm livid becaise 3xs I mean I get a bad night but come on. I'm still cool but at this point we're ready to just leave! The waiter comes over and we tell him what's going on I then flag my waiter and give her the run down, 3 dirty cups and now a hair in his food. I'm a business woman myself and sometimes even with accidents you just have to suck it up and take accountability. Met here with some friends on a Tuesday night. The restaurant is located in a strip mall. It's not a fancy place by any means. It had a mix match of different type tables and chairs. The safe greeted us and were very friendly. The chips were hot and the salsa tasted fresh and spicy. I ordered a the quesadilla Veracruz with chicken. It the food came out fast. I enjoyed the chicken in the quesadilla, it had a lot of seasoning that wasn't overpowering. The onions and peppers were okay, they could've been cooked just a minute or two longer. The rice was the usual Mexican restaurant variety, not amazing but not bad. I'll come back and try the other food if I'm in the mood for Mexican. I am guilty of having a favorite dish for whatever style restaurant I go to. Here my favorite is Arroz con Pollo. I add Camarones (shrimp) and broccoli to make it a little more hearty. Of all the Mexican restaurants in town, the shrimp is always fresh at Mi Ranchito. Plump and firm. Everything seems fresh (especially the broccoli) but I am most sensitive to the shrimp. The guy behind the counter was very helpful in answering our questions about the menu items. I had the chicken covered in mole sauce. I've had mole sauce from many other Mexican restaurants, and this is among the best. Just the right combination of sweetness and subtle heat. The chicken was moist and very tender. My wife and I sampled the tamale wrapped in a banana leaf. The cornmeal dough had good flavor and consistency. Even though the meat was tasty, there could have been a bit more in the tamale.
