First time visiting Don Mario, and it is the best place I've been in Owensboro! The restaurant is in the downtown area, and is very clean. You're greeted very warmly as soon as you enter, and the hospitality continued through the entire visit. The menu is pretty vast, from appetizers, to the traditionally expected, local Owensboro Favorites, and house specialities including the Mario Burger! They also serve alcoholic beverages, with a decent offering. The price to portion ratio is spot on! Great flavor! I had the nasty nachos and my wife has the combo plate. Nachos were definitely a five. Taco and chicken enchiladas were as well. Tamale was a little dry but not enough to ruin the meal. Salsa, guacamole and cheese sauce were also very good. Worth a stop in for dinner. read more

This was a delightful surprise. There were 8 of us for dinner an hour before they closed. We were graciously seated and served politely with no comments on it being late or to hurry. This is a very small inside space and a massive outdoor space. Local artwork decorated inside and outside spaces. The food, oh my gosh! It was the best Mexican food we have had in years. Might be worth the drive from STL to to eat dinner. We will definitely be back. read more

We come to Owensboro for a bit of adult fun annually when we travel to the area for our family trip to Holiday World. We have found a lovely balance of crazy, sweaty, summer fun at Holiday World, and the clean, cultured town of Owensboro. The downtown is something to be proud of. Plenty of great food and drink to be had as well as entertainment. This year we broke away from some of our usually haunts and discovered Don Mario. Wow! The food was FANTASTIC! Not your typical watery lifeless americanized version of tacos. The place was clean, fast, and incredibly friendly. The Mojarra Frita was perfectly cooked as well. Great Méxican food. I had a Seafood Cocktail. It was loaded with shrimp, avocado, and a salsa sauce, that was a bit sweet. Leslie had a Beef Fajita Burrito. Actually, enough for two and quite tasty. We're from OK and Mexican food is our State's staple. So, it has to be unusually good to get a 5! We would go there again! read more

Wife and I were in town for business and decided to give it a try based on reviews. Let me first say we are true authentic Mexican foodies being from Southern California. Wow this is some of the best we've ever had. I had the Huevos con chorizo and a street taco (Asada) wife had chilaquiles and they both were so good we both cleared our plate. $24 total. Seriously the best Mexican food we've had since moving from California. This place had amazing food. We got street tacos with pastor, chorizo and barbacoa and the steak Guerrero. The different meats were all great and the salsas were delicious, everything had so much flavor. On top of the great food, the service was great, they were really attentive.
