They are constantly presenting products for sale on a national cable shopping network. Recently,…read morethey offered "Rastelli's Black Angus Reserve Ribeye Steaks". The offer was 10 Ribeye Steaks, 8oz. each for $149.00. The owner showed how marbled the steaks were for flavor and tenderness. The only relationship to marbling was that it was actually like trying to chew a marble. The owner then went on showing how he was able to cut a piece of the steak just using a fork. It actually was extremely difficult trying to cut the steak with a knife. The steaks were individually frozen and bared absolutely no resemblance to what was presented. Being very familiar with the meat industry, it bothered me that these steaks were not presented as being USDA SELECT, USDA CHOICE, or USDA PRIME. Only the USDA can grade beef, and the original processor has to pay the USDA to do that. Grading is not mandatory, but it allows a customer to know what the quality of the meat is that they are purchasing. The quality of these steaks explains why they were not graded. Black Angus cattle is the overwhelming source for beef consumption, but it certainly does not guarantee that the quality will be there, especially when it's not graded. The only type of Black Angus beef guaranteed to be of exceptional quality is "Certified Black Angus" which is a whole different entity and very limited supply. These steaks by Rastelli are a perfect example of "buyer beware"!
