If you are a lover of superb smoked meat/barbeque.... this is the place in Edmonton to have an extraordinary meal. My wife and I decided to share the 1/2 lb. of Brisket, 1/2 rack of pork ribs with a side of garlic fries, succotash and corn bread. It is all to die for. We have tried Barbeque/Southern restaurants in many different places (Arizona, California, Nevada, Vancouver, Montreal and Mexico) and this is by far the best that we have tried. What ever you do, you have to have the garlic fries and the corn bread... they are delicious. As mentioned in other reviews, they offer four BBQ sauces. We preferred the Bourbon and Cherry. Came here because our coworkers came two nights in a row when they were in town and this surely didn't disappoint! Place is super clean and simply decorated. Everything we had was delicious but the brussel sprouts were next level. These aren't your mother's hard little gross grenades, these are shredded bits of amazingness. The only disappointment here was the fact that we couldn't buy any of the cherry BBQ sauce they serve and our awesome waiter Jorden told us they're planning on having Meat sweatpants for sale but we're leaving town tomorrow and won't be able to get em. It was big enough for the four of us and there was still lots leftover! The sides were really good (Mac n cheese) but I found the meat itself to be really dry. After we had a disappointing experience at rib fest, we have been on a mission to find good smoked ribs. MEAT fit the bill and did not disappoint. They serve the main courses family style so it was ideal for trying a bunch of things. So we ordered some ribs, brisket, a 1/4 chicken, and a pulled pork sandwich. For sides we got some zucchini medallions and their fries. The ribs were excellent with a nice dry rub coating and so easy to eat. Brisket had a great Smokey flavour. Pulled pork sand was great even though it got a little soggy. The chicken was just ok. It was a bit dry. Next time we will try the sausage instead. The zucchini was great, cut thicker than I expected which made a big difference somehow. The garlic fries were mainly left. Nothing really wrong with them but they were the least interesting item. They also have a large selection of bourbon. We tried a couple that were fine. I drink more scotch so it is hard for me to judge the bourbon. read more

On a cold winter's night when many other establishments were closed, Meat opened its welcoming doors to let in our party of 17. The service and the atmosphere was great. I love the paint selection which goes well withe the wood and colour of the hairs. The food, however, is where they faltered. We had enough people that multiple platters made it out to our 4 tables. In addition, orders of Burnt Ends which was on special also arrived. Every meat on offer made out of the kitchen to our tables. Between all of us, we likely ordered each of the sides but my end of the table selected the garlic fries, Brussels sprouts and a pickle. Having heard a lot about Meat I was looking forward to trying what they had to offer. Having tried at least all the meats, I have to say it was only ok. It certainly didn't impress. We found it lacked the full flavour we expected. We have been to other smokehouses and each one has something that stands out. Not so here but if I had to choose I thought the brisket was the best of the bunch. Many of the options were fairly dry which may be because it was near the end of the night? We used a lot of the BBQ sauces, which were beautifully served in labeled bottles, just to balance things out. I convinced everyone at our end to ours the Brussels sprouts as I had heard amazing things about them. In the end I think I got their hopes up just to be let down. Again, they were only ok. I love the look and feel here. It was a nice night out and I think is worth visiting if you've never been. I just didn't love the food. read more

We came for Saturday brunch and got an amazing meal with fantastic service! I had the eggs benny with pulled pork instead of brisket and the garlic fries instead of hash browns for no extra cost. These are legit the BEST fries in town!! The serving was so big that I even shared them with my friend who agreed they are ridiculously addictive. Our first visit to Meat. We sat outside on the patio watching the muscle car guys try to out compete each other by revving their engines and going around the block again and again. Apparently not having luck attracting the ladies..... Started with a Meat Caesar made with bourbon and horseradish. This drink is very very good. I recommend this drink for any Caesar lover. My wife tried the H3 red wine and found it to be very nice. The food arrived a short time later. A brisket sandwich, a rack of ribs, garlic fries and a nice large dill pickle to round out the meal. Has great patio and the background music is not to loud you can have a great conversion. Parking there's a lot of residential parking. I found mine 2 blocks away. Let's just say the best chicken and waffles I have EVER had, and I'm from North Carolina. The fact that they hit the crunch factor and seasoning on the chicken dead on left me speechless. I have had terrible luck finding any of my southern favorites in Canada and all I have to say is, thank you Edmonton! This restaurant really didn't research. Also, amazing job on all the BBQ sauce . They weren't really classic but they had immense depth of flavor and was finger licking good. As a native Texan I was delighted to find a restaurant like Meat while visiting Edmonton! To start the service was great the entire time. We had a mixup in the food that was brought to our table but our server immediately acknowledged and corrected the mistake. On to the food.. we ordered bbq ribs, smoked chicken, and burnt ends. The flavor of everything was outstanding. I was a little disappointed with the burnt ends because of how greasy they were. It seemed more like chopped brisket that had been in a warming pan, instead of the actual burnt ends from a smoked brisket. For sides we ordered brussels sprouts and garlic fries. I had been hearing about Meat for awhile so finally a few friends and I decided to head down to Whyte ave on a Friday night and check out what Meat had to offer. It was about 8pm on a Friday and they don't take reservations, so I was a little worried about getting in, but it was no problem we were sat immediately (thank god too because I was starving!) When we first sat down the waitress came up to us and explained that they like to serve their food "family style", which essentually means you order a little bit of everything you want and share it among the people in your party. I love doing this however we decided among ourselves hat we just all wanted the ribs so we got those and each picked our own side. Our food came out fairly quickly which was a huge relief to me - and among receiving our meals we all dug in! I personally ordered the ribs, the garlic fries (which I had heard amazing things about, and the mac and cheese because I couldn't resist. The ribs were great - but they kind of had a smoky taste to them, as if they were cooked over a campsite. I believe this is the taste meat is going for as they smoke all their meats for hours prior to serving them, but I personally am not a huge fan of smoked things so they were just ok to me. The main highlight however and what made the ribs interesting is that they have an assortment for 3 homemade BBQ sauces - Bourbon, Cherry, and Spicy. YUM!! This sauces were amazing and it was fun t try them all out and get a different flavor of meat with each bite. As for the sides - delicious but oh my god they were NOT kidding when they sid the fries were garlic fries. WOWZA. So garlicy! I also ordered a small and got a TON of fries which was nice but I couldn't finish them all. The Mac & cheese was suuuuuuper rich and cheesy, and I thought it also tasted fairly garlicy but I can't be 100% positive on that because my tast buds were literally covered in the taste of garlic from the fries. We came at 7:40pm on a Thursday night and only waited about 20 minutes before we were seated. Food came out really fast - we were pleased as we were famished! Between two adults and two kids, we shared 1/2 lb of brisket, 1/2 chicken, 1/2 rack of ribs, large mac and cheese, large beets and small garlic fries. Everything was delicious and we finished everything without being overstuffed. Service was friendly and great. Price was reasonable as the portion of food was a good size. So good. Been twice this month and both times it has been delicious. Long table communal seating, with some tables for 2 thrown in. 1 page menu offering smoked meats and sides, there is usually 1 meat and one side special the server will tell you about. Prices are good, for my wife and I, booze excluded we can dine for $45 including tip. My wife and I choose 2 meats, (small size) small fries and 1 other small side and we leave stuffed. Garlic truffle fries are killer, but this time a bit soggy, may have been doused a bit too much with the truffle oil. Just be aware, when they run out of something, thats it for the night. So if you show up for a late night dime on a saturday night and they are out of a meat or two, don't be surprised. Service is excellent, beer list could be better. read more

We (party of two) ordered half order of brisket, full rack of ribs, and fried chicken with sides of large mac and cheese, pork and beans, and coleslaw. If you are into slow cooked meat, this is the place for you. I found all the meat bit too dry for me to enjoy and could taste the basic flavor of the meat. I could enjoy a bit by dunking the meats into one of theirs sauces. If you like your steak to be cooked rare or less, this is not the place for you. Was disappointed with my last visit here as the quality has gone down significantly since my last visit. We ordered a full rack of ribs, 1/2 lbs of brisket, and several sides. The ribs were straight up overcooked. Hard bark on the outside and not a drop of juice left in the meat. The brisket was also not as tender or juicy as I remember and it was cut paper thin? (think roast beef). I would have much preferred thicker slices, perhaps even 1/3 of an inch please? The sides were not great either. Mac n' cheese should have been cheesier, it seemed more like an alfredo sauce coating. I was perplexed at why they SHREDDED the brussel sprouts?? Can you believe this, the consistency was gross and was very watery... Hard to beat a nice roasted brussel sprout but you had to go and macerate them to a pulp? I personally will not be returning here anytime soon. The decor is cool and servers friendly but for BBQ the food has the be #1. read more

This is one of my favourite places to grab a bite in Edmonton. The food is fantastic, and if you're not wanting to pay a fortune, it's well priced. It's more of a relaxed type of restaurant. Their menu is good - salads, appetisers and then a range of different meat options. The meat is served on a board mostly and is tender, juicy and well cooked. Service is good, although this place is basically always busy and it's pretty noisy inside. It would be good if they could put some sound boards or something in there to absorb the noise a bit. This restaurant has very very good food, however... They have some of the most terrible systems in place. Website is confusing and contradictory. No delivery options other than them, on the website it says they don't take reservations but when you call it says press three for reservations. You don't get through to a real person easily and if they pull their heads out of /&/$@ they may see that on the very first page of the website they are open from 11 PM to 10 PM. It's only one letter, but it's on the first page of the website and it gave me zero confidence to think they could do it right again. Owner, wake up! read more
