Tried out Mean Grille via a service called Lunch Drop which is like Uber Eats, Door Dash, etc. I tried the Doner Wrap which was stuffed with tender cuts of doner kebab, pickled onions, cucumbers amongst other fresh ingredients. I really enjoyed this wrap. What let me down was my side order of baba ghanoush. It wasn't what I expected. Their version of this dish is like an eggplant salsa. It's not a creamy version. Also didn't help that my pita was kind of stale. All good, will update review at a future date when I try out some of their plates. read more

The main thing lacking was the food. It was edible, but it lacked sufficient flavor for my taste. My second time back. This time for lunch and it didn't disappoint. I got the hummus again & tried the spicy version. It's mild in heat and it was a great side with my entree (though I prefer the regular hummus a little more). The owner said they make it from scratch and I can definitely taste the difference from other places. IMO best I've had in town. The adana plate was generously portioned with with rice & salad. Visited for the first time with my husband today for a late lunch. The owner was very friendly and gave us really great recommendations! My husband and I shared The Governor's Plate, some spicy hummus, Turkish coffee, and desserts. Oh my gosh-- the food was phenomenal! Everything is locally-sourced or house-made and you can tell based on the freshness of everything served...so delicious! The spicy hummus made the best appetizer and complement to our entree. The cayenne heat is the perfect level of spice, just right. I would consider buying take-out hummus from here. Really good. The Governor's Plate was amazing. It had a variety of all of the meats offered at Mean Grille so we got a taste of everything. Got it with a side of fluffy fragrant basmati rice and it was the most perfect meal. The beef sausage was bursting with flavor! The Adana, chicken kebab, and beef tenderloin... moist, smokey, tender, and just mouth-watering tasty!! The Turkish coffee and dessert sampler was a classic treat. We enjoyed every bit of it. It was very much the cherry on top at the end of our meal. All in all, this restaurant offers very high quality food that's booming with Turkish/Mediterranean flavors!!! Everything was remarkable. This is definitely a place I will periodically have cravings for... especially that Governor's Plate... Wow! Food is so flavorful. This has become a regular for me. The spicy cilantro sauce is truly spicy and rich. I am very picky about beef, but they prepare it exactly how i like & it maintains so juicy: The spicy hummus has a kick to it. Most restaurants label something as spicy and they lie. I tried the loaded fries (the fries very crispy like I like and the pink sauce was very good) and the falafel wrap (very tasty). Before I visited Mean Grille I had never had Turkish Mediterranean food before. Now that I've been to Mean Grille I want to plan a trip to Turkey! I've visited this spot multiple times now and every item I order is delicious. I've had kebabs, hummus, baklava, and more! Everything is full of flavor and tastes fresh. You can taste the freshness of the ingredients that make up each dish, seriously. The restaurant is spacious and trendy, they play a blend of pop favorites and Turkish music. Almost every song is a bop, I end up using my phone to find the name of a song on every visit. Might end up asking for a link to the playlist. The music is audible but not loud enough to stop you from having conversation at lunch or dinner. Mean Grille offers daily specials and Happy Hour is daily from 3-6. My favorite item to order is the Adana Kebab Plate with spicy cilantro sauce, plus some spicy hummus and hazelnut baklava to complement. We love going to Luce coffee roasters next door! We came in as it's newly open and I've never had Turkish food before. The owner is very polite and nice, takes time to explain the menu. I got the Mediterranean shrimp. It wasn't super flavorful but it didn't bother me as it was plump and good texture. The spicy avocado cilantro sauce is so so good and goes well with adding flavor to the shrimp and rice. Gosh, I still think about this sauce and would totally buy it on its own! The Turkish tea was very unique in taste and good, but probably would be better if I added some honey to it at home! We enjoyed our first trip to a new Turkish-Mediterranean place. We shared everything and loved it. We devoured a doner plate that came with two sides and pita bread slices. The sides we falafel and a side salad....came with in-house made sauces.....tasty. We also made short work of a Adana plate with two sides, the sides we picked for this delectable dish were hummus and baba ganoush.... and it came with pita bread slices made from scratch. The Adana and the doner were very nice, the Adana is a grilled ground meat beef/lamb mix, 80/20 and the doner was gyro meat. We enjoyed some baklava, sekerpare and kalburasti and there were no leftovers. We had a couple sodas and they have different bottled drinks from Turkey, a few beers and wine. They'll have frozen margaritas in the near future. They have happy hour from 3 to 6 pm daily. The young man that waited on us told us if you wear pink on Wedesdays you get 10 percent off your bill. We ordered pickup at 6:02pm, with a pickup time of 6:22. We arrived at 6:42 to be told the food was not ready. Restaurant was mostly empty. Finally at 6:57 the order was ready with no apology. Obvious they had not started it. We ordered both Lebanese and Turkish Kibi. Both were subpar. The dough was not correct and the meat was pasty. The pita bread was left out and the donner meat was tasteless. The rest was OK at best. We were excited to try the restaurant especially since the ratings were good but food nor service definitely did not measure up. read more

I met Onur years ago in San Diego. I was blown away by his food. I had never tasted such amazing food at my mouth literally watered. fast forward three years and he has opened a restaurant in Houston. His food is the best food you'll ever try. It's authentic Turkish food his recipes are family tradition. I had to work on Easter Sunday, so my hubby and I decided to grab dinner near where I work before heading home. Wanted something relatively healthy, and after looking up multiple places we agreed on this place. My first impression was that the atmosphere is so pleasant and cheery when you first walk in. The worker who assisted us was so helpful while we were ordering; I ended up getting the chicken kebab plate and the pistachio baklava dessert. While everything was delicious, my favorite thing on the plate was actually the salad. It was so tasty and flavorful! Ordered two rice plates with a side of babaganoush as takeout. Found both plates to have a very small portion of meat for the price. Meat quality was good, though dry. Pretty good rice. Let me tell you, that cilantro sauce is so delicious! Had just enough heat and a nice creamy balance to finish it off. The pita was fresh and just the right amount of fluff, not too thick either. So so excellent! I have been looking for a go-to falafel place in Houston, and this has definitely been my favorite so far. I got the vegan falafel plate with spicy cilantro sauce and the falafel was delicious and crispy & the sauce was absolutely divine! The hummus and the tea were also very good, and they make it and all of their food fresh daily with ingredients from local farms (except for the dessert). The service was phenomenal. Overall, would highly recommend this family-owned, sustainably-sourced restaurant!
